UMVC3 was the last hurrah for this franchise. Still a freaking phenomenal game to this day. I hope Marvel and Capcom make up and try to give us a TRUE MVC4 someday.

Again, keep in mind that it's not Marvel's fault that character's like Fantastic Four, and especially the X-Men, didn't make it to the roster. Disney didn't even bought the rights to those Character's until 2019, which was at least 2 years since MvCI was released. And in terms of the Gameplay, you can't tell me that it's Disney's fault, when you got certain character designs from the Capcom side are poorly bad, to the point where they need to fix it quickly. Plus, Capcom were the one's that wanted to put majority of the budget on the Story, while Marvel wanted to just recreate the Infinity saga from both the Comics, and the MCU. So if you want to blame someone on MvCI's failure, blame it on Capcom. Not Marvel/Disney.

There was a voice actor strike that absolutely tanked the quality of the voice work despite having most of the same VAs back Marvel were completely overbearing overlords and demanded that any promo material couldn't show the Marvel characters getting beat up too badly There were only two mocap actors leading to same 50 shrug posing in the story mode Said Story Mode was written by a writer who had no prior experience with either Marvel or Capcom franchises, which is why dialogue reads like "Hello Arthur from Ghosts and Goblins, have you see Ghost Rider: The Spirit of Vengeance?" The marketed pro-scene Battle For the Stones was not included in the Capcom Pro Tour It replaced unique character themes with decades of history with generic Hollywood orchestra garbage A bunch of pros were paid to shill this game hard during pre-release. The game's depiction of Dante was so bad that Hideaki Itsuno and Reuben Langdon distanced themselves from the project. The Preorder bonus of a box of Infinity Stones were instead just a box of Infinity Easter Eggs Combofiend had to be the unfortunate PR scapegoat with the whole "characters are just functions" debacle. The damage scaling was also weirdly limiting Last but not least DBFZ and BBTAG were the ones who made it to EVO while MVCI never did. And UMVC3 came back before MVCI ever saw an EVO mainstage appearance.
@@aegisreflector1239 I could not get into the movement of Infinite because I was just far too used to the really tight control you had over your character in UMVC3 (plinkdashing, air mobility, etc). I still think the gameplay itself was good, but overall the game just got completely screwed over. I think Marvel was the biggest issue, now that Disney had an agenda to push the MCU they were pretty much keeping this game on a leash. Hopefully now that they saw Infinite bomb and Ono has left Capcom, a potential MVC4 returns to its roots. Especially when we see turnout for 3 at EVO this year.
Infinite I think suffered by lack of budget but also marvel becoming harder to deal being part of Disney and the Fox licensing issues at the time with infinite ,
Yeah that prevented the Marvel characters in the Fox movies from being included in the game. Everyone hated that they tried to sweep X-Men under the rug like that and say they weren't popular anymore. X-Men is what got most of us into Marvel in the first place!
Even though X-men characters weren’t in it the system was fun as fuck and still is. If it was released in the state it is now it would have sold way better than it did during release.
The sad part is that even today with Disney already owning Fox with the X-Men and Fantastic Four, it seems that now it's even way more harder to deal with Disney considering the poor choices they make with Marvel and the way that the want every single thing related with the MCU
Problem with Disney I mean, if you’re gonna buy these franchise then buy them with good faith, knowledge and a sense of understanding why it’s so popular to the masses not just because when you bought them you totally own the whole direction on each property. And creative differences among the studio is enough for them to suppress themselves to make a great opportunity of what should have been an impact.
Every time I hear exclusive licensing rights I cringe, it's the death of game artistry. and an insult to fans, like if I saw x-men in a fighting game i'd pass on an RPG with the same characters. The dumb companies are so afraid to share they lose money, and we lose the best games and movies. I lot my interest in MVC when it went 3d, but I love to see a mvc2 remake/sequel using sprites or at least the same style as Dragonball FighterZ.. but wont happen.
A new MVC game depends on Disney more than Capcom. Though even Capcom themselves aren't that big into fighting games anymore, they still do Street Fighter but that's about it. They used to do fighting games left and right in the 90's, nowadays they're mainly about Resident Evil.
I grew up playing UMVC3 and I love that game so so much, one of my favorites besides MK9. I love the cel shaded design and combos. I have played the other games in series though on cabinet , and gotta say MVC2 is god tier for a reason. I still play it with friends and can’t help but feel the intense wave of secondhand nostalgia.
I don’t think we’re likely to get another Marvel vs. Capcom game soon with Disney keeping Marvel so close to their chest and Capcom only just starting to look like they’re getting passionate about fighting games again. Though SNK has been on an upswing lately, so maybe a Capcom vs. SNK game is on the table.
So base it on older versions of the characters then. If you must include characters from movies and comics, give them classic costumes as an alt. Problem solved. You don't have to sit through a crappy story mode. Just go online and play to your heart's content. Look at how cool that Cyclops mod is for UMVC3. That's straight out of the 90s!
@@macuser7048 That ultimately depends on Marvel and they are currently too focused on trying to make characters like Iron heart, Miles Morales, Ms Marvel and Captain falcon replace the iconic versions of the characters that they would probably make Capcom use them instead of Iron man, Spiderman or Captain America
There are a few games I think we can all agree that we grew up playing with cousins/friends during sleepovers. MVC2 was one of those games, hours on hours with plenty of chars for a roster. Too many games now roster counts are so low it’s sad. Games won’t be the same as they use to unfortunately. I’m glad I grew up in the era I did.
When Cable appeared in MVC2 I can't stop thinking of all the possibilities that CAPCOM has to offer. CAPCOM can definitely create strategic fighters out of any MARVEL characters.

I just wanted to thank you for making video content that was both education and entertaining, which made doing the mind-numbing data entry more pleasurable. I also want to thank you for turning this channel around back to the video essays. I was here when it was originally video essays, and I bare down and struggled through when it was "Too Tall Desk," when it was just ranting about popular games and current gaming events, which was just to appease to the TH-cam algorithm. The video essays are much more palatable to watch.
MvC2 will always be my favorite fighting game of all time. I put hundreds of hours into it playing online on PS3. Damn, I wish they would release it for PS5 🙏🏽
A remaster of this game would honestly work, with additional characters for the x men and fantastic four characters, maybe even skins for existing characters (you know the whole characters are just functions debacle).

They made an MVC collection for arcade 1up. Those capcom arcade collections continue to sell well. All that needs to happen is for both sides to shake hands and the series would get back on the right track.
I have been a lifelong lover of fighting games and tbh imho the one thing that is holding the genre back from attracting more eyes is ironically DLC characters. They break competitive in such a way that to be competitive you must buy them all. In many cases these characters are unrestricted in ranked online play and often used in tournaments, meaning in order to practice their combos, movesets, and ultimately learn how to fight against them it's either lots of trial and error vs people who have already learned this character, or pony up the cash to get them yourself. The popular competitive genres don't have this problem because they're based off of free to play models where additional paid content is entirely cosmetic, or can be earned through gameplay. The other major problem holding back fighting games is complexity, this is inherent in the genre though and often games that try to combat this don't do well with the crowd of long time fighting game enthusiasts, making it a difficult problem to solve. Ultimately though I wish we could go back to unlocking characters through hard work and gameplay, not by throwing additional money at the problem.
Marvel couldn't stop putting down roadblocks, and Capcom couldn't shake off the internal reputation of it being their "budget" franchise. If they could swallow their pride and listen to what fans actually wanted, they wouldn't have lost so much money and goodwill.
I really hope Marvel VS Capcom makes a return but good than last time with Infinite trash… can we also have mvc2 come back for game consoles and not JUST arcades?
I just wish they'd put mvc 1 and 2 on the Xbox live and playstation stores. Both games are perfect so no need to change them or make new games. Just let us have them and play them online
Now, the 12 new characters were originally gonna be like DLC in Ultimate but the decision that Capcom made to not make them DLC but as part of the base roster was Questionable but it was smart, plus Don't leave out the fact that Marvel 3 did indeed have a slight development issue when releasing Ultimate back in 2011: Strider Hiryu. He was originally not supposed to be part of the roster or the game because Capcom did not own the Strider IP. The people who owns that IP was none other than Hiroshi Motomiya, Kadokawa Shoten & Moto Kikaku. However due to fan demand, Capcom & Motomiya actually managed to work things out & they [Capcom] managed to have Strider Hiryu in the game & the fans were relieved as Strider was actually met with positive praise from Fans & Critics.
It will never surpass MVC1 and 2, but UMVC3 and MVCI ain't bad. Just not my style at all. Kind of wish we had that MVC2 Arcade 1-Up cabinet in console form because that collection is pretty much perfect and everything I could ever ask for.
Marvel versus Capcom 2 Sprite looks so much better than marvel versus Capcom 3 an infinite 3D model. Arc system work is the only company that can create marvel versus Capcom game.
I don't think it's really accurate to call fighting games the "red headed stepchild" of gaming. There are lots of big budget and high profile fighting games coming out. Fighting games, like any other genre, come and go as far as being the genre that's the most played by the most people, but MvC Infinite being bad doesn't mean that all fighting games are suddenly shunned. I don't even play fighting games anymore (for various reasons, mostly that I'm bad at them lol) but I can still see how many good ones are coming out on a pretty regular basis.
I feel like your underselling how loved UMVC3 is and also simplifying the issues with MVCI with just "disney killed it" and not acknowledging they owned them during 3s development, and capcom not giving the game a miniscule budget, also calling it just a "rehash" of infinty war is just a little insulting to the mechanics the setting brought to the game.
tbh i think UMVC3 is actuallhy really cool, sure its not the 2 but the cell shading still holds up today and the game feels smooth with a lot of tech to learn (plink dash, wave dash, thc infinities, tri jump, etc)
I think you might have missed the part in the video where he says that it is universally been accepted as a great game. Infinite is the one that people don't really like I mean some people like it I guess the gameplay is fun is what some people say but it just looks ugly and the roster is not really impressive.
Playing mvc2 feels like they wanted to create the geeatest game ever, the amount of characters is just impressive, mvci feels like an advertisement for the mcu, the characters were carefully picked not because theyre fan favorites, but because they had movies coming up soon. Also nobody talks about it but X23 is a poor replacement for the OG badass assassin Psylocke.
The fighting game genre is just as popular as ever. Mortal Kombat, Tekken and Street Fighter still sell millions. Guilty Gear, King of Fighters and Undernight are still doing well. Yes Sega and Capcom refuse to release be Virtua Fighter games for some reason, but I don't get why people pretend fighting games are dying or are a niche genre.

Disney is responsible for all that. They alone decide what Capcom could use and couldn't use as assets and at the time Fox owned the rights to the movies, so Marvel went out of their way to hamstring and bury the X-Men and FF franchises in order to pressure Fox
It’s all sad when people have been clamoring for Megaman X to appear on an MvsC game only for it’s installment to put their curtains to shame on his game debut. They could have done things better.
Disney was it's downfall along with Dragon Ball Fighters. Disney being control freaks over the characters and what they allowed or not allowed to include. Also they used it to promote the Marvel movies. Capcom already had their decades of history with this franchise. Disney didn't have to be involved.

Great video! Marvel vs Capcom will always be awesome, with Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 being my favorite entry in the series. Unfortunately, it's not very likely we'll ever see a Marvel vs Capcom 4, due to how strict Disney is with Marvel, these days. However, we can all keep the hope and dream alive.
Those 90s one had the sweet Jim Lee looks of the cartoon and comics, the new ones don't have that look, imagine if they came out with just marvel fighting game with X-Men, spider Man characters, avengers, punisher daredevil green goblin but we'll never see a huge roster ever again
Sadly after the trainwreck of Deadrising 4 Capcom closed the doors of the studio that made dead rising 2-4 ,(Capcom Vancouver) but since it was Capcom who made the original Deadrising 1 ,(the best imo) they could make an DR 5 but then again after the dumpster fire of 4 and sales and all of the above it’s probably the death of Deadrising, which is one of my favorite video game franchises.

I know it didn’t have a gigantic outreach, but it did have a really dedicated community spawned by primarily the first and second game. Such a shame. This is a wonderful video, that is very researched, and obviously done with a lot of passion, however, when he said MVC2 fixed the issues with overpowered characters dominating the tournament landscape I nearly spit my drink out. For over 20 years, roughly 10 of the 56 playable characters are the only characters you see in top 8 of all tournaments anywhere. It is known to be one of the most unbalanced games of all time with over two thirds of its roster being mostly useless at hi level and that's why people love it so much is because so much broken stuff allowed for some creativity and over the top fun.
Technically, Capcom *did* release a MvC collection... ...that's exclusive to $800+ CAD limited edition Arcade1up cabinets. You never change, Cashcom...
I wish they would make a switch version of MVC2 the only thing they should change is one of the wolverines to his daughter Laura(X-23) so it's actually 56 characters
MVC2 New Age of Heroes: Psycholocke. One of the most mobile characters, and then I'd spam Capt. Commando's lightning punch which creates a column of electricity from the ground to the ceiling underneath my opponent while I'm up in the air with the camera on me so they can't see it coming. I'd also get someone with a good horizontal beam attack to alternate between Capt. Commando with in my call ins and would just wear them down with horizontal and vertical full-screen sized attacks from call-ins. My friends hating playing against me and I'm pretty sure most of them have died of cancer since then which they contracted from my MVC2 play.
While sure, the state of the MvC series is rather bleak, to say it's fallen right now as of 2023 is just straight up false. UMvC3 was announced for EVO as a throwback tournament for starters. It has, surprisingly, done well for what was thought to be dead during Covid. It has so many mods now. Literally UMvC3 coming back help bring back other titles. Also, MvCI still has competitors because of it's good online. I grantee the franchise has a better future than MK. I'm honestly just annoyed how the video painted the end of the series so gloom, like if you send a couple of minutes within the community you would've ended on a better hope.
As someone that grew up with X-men vs Street and etc etc, I’ll never understand why so many put MvC2 on a pedestal. It was great but MvC3 has just way better mechanics and roster choices. Hell if the next one has a bit of both it would probably become the greatest fighting game ever Too bad the fate of the franchise now rests on Disney….
The only thing disappointing about MvC3 is before it came out: I was expecting 100 characters on the roster. I didn't mind most of the newcomers (with the exception of Phoenix Wright and Rocket Racoon) but I wanted all 56 MvC2 characters to return.
I really hope that at some point in a few years, Marvel and Capcom just have a reunion, talk out what has happened with their latest game, and make sure that they never make the same mistake again. I grew up with this series since I was in 1st grade with UMVC3's release, and I don't want this iconic IP to just instantly be dead. Again, I know their latest game didn't do so well, but everyone makes mistakes. Who's to say next time will be better than before? However, given that MvC 3, or MvC in general, is finally getting revived in EVO 2023, I have some hope that the next Marvel vs. Capcom game is gonna happen soon. We'll just have to wait and see what happens next.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention how the only legitimate way to play MvC2 on modern hardware is to buy a $700 arcade cabinet that couldn’t even go online at launch. Anywho, I’m hopeful that Street Fighter 6 is successful enough to warrant a proper MvC4 (let’s just pretend Infinite was a weird in-between game), and hopefully a new Darkstalkers as well.
Fittingly; 'TvC' had more or less the same character licensing issues that the 'MvC' series had. As noted on Top Hat Gaming Man's analyzation of 'TvC', when the developers at Capcom would ask the licensing holders of Tatsunoko why certain characters (such as the 'Samurai Pizza Cats' cast) were made off-limits, the latter would refuse to evaluate further and instead make another suggestion of whom to include.

Actually for Marvel versus Capcom there was no problems with licensing what characters like X-Men and Fantastic Four it was just because Disney did not own the film rights to the series they didn't want them in the game despite having the rights to use them in any other way outside of the movies

MVC was great until they got greedy. MVC 2 was the best version had the most characters and best gameplay. All they had to do was come back in part three with virtually the same gameplay with better graphics and more characters and everything we loved from part 2. Instead in MVC3 they gave us less characters, less options and dumbed down the gameplay
Vanilla Marvel vs Capcom 3 being put out to pasture less than a year after release for an Ultimate version was pretty bizarre, but I think the earthquake that happened in Japan at the time altered their DLC plans and made them decide to release Ultimate as a standalone game instead. Sure it might have seemed a little scummy at the time, but the result was one of the hypest fighting games ever made with a cast of so many memorable characters. For as broken as Marvel 3's top tiers are, there's still tons of viable characters that result in probably the most balanced game in the series. Don't know why this video implies Marvel 3's gameplay is bad, I tend to think it's pretty great with lots of combo variety and a power fantasy like no other. It does seem that casual fans argue Marvel 2 is better purely on its roster size, but how many of those characters actually get used that much? Does anyone actually use characters like Marrow, Spiral, Anakaris, Nash, or many of the other underdeveloped characters that can't compete with the top tiers like Cable, Storm, and Magneto? Marvel 2 isn't a bad game, don't get me wrong, but I can't help but feel its roster is a bit of a case of quantity over quality, while Marvel 3's roster is a tiny bit less quantity but a lot more quality, trimming a lot of the fat and, fleshing out what's there and making really creative additions. Not to mention at the time, characters like Deadpool, Dormammu, and Rocket Raccoon were pretty novel picks while Capcom had stellar new additions like Dante, Vergil, and Phoenix Wright. I think Ultimate Marvel 3 sits up there as the pinnacle of the series. It's just a shame it lacks rollback netcode. As for Infinite...another case of this video misjudging the gameplay. The presentation and roster of that game are incredibly weak (the roster lacks both quantity and quality), but the gameplay is one of its only redeeming qualities.
Now from what I heard the 12 new characters that were included in ultimate marvel vs capcom 3 were originally planned as DLC for vanilla marvel vs capcom 3 but then the 2011 tsunami earthquake happened so they decided to release the ultimate version with those 12 characters added in and if that's the case they should've added in shuma-gorath and jill valentine as free characters in the ultimate version instead of keeping they as paid DLC
If an MVC4 game doesn’t happen, then why bother, Capcom will just do another potential crossover fighter, whilst Marvel will go on to have a collab with a fighting game company like NRS for example!!

Marvel vs injustice DC will be the next cross over done by WB. Might be a few years away, but WB already makes marvel and DC Lego games. So the history is there. It will be the 2nd best marvel crossover of all time , only slightly behind mvc2 , mainly because it will be 2 on 2. Don't worry, scorpion will be in the game. We're not going to get another GOOD MvC game unless, ironically, Marvel nosedives in popularity first. The amounts of money, greed, and people who dont understand the content/fans making decisions involved with Marvel now, wouldn't allow it.

Yeah that prevented the Marvel characters in the Fox movies from being included in the game. Everyone hated that they tried to sweep X-Men under the rug like that and say they weren't popular anymore. X-Men is what got most of us into Marvel in the first place!
Even though X-men characters weren’t in it the system was fun as fuck and still is. If it was released in the state it is now it would have sold way better than it did during release.
The sad part is that even today with Disney already owning Fox with the X-Men and Fantastic Four, it seems that now it's even way more harder to deal with Disney considering the poor choices they make with Marvel and the way that the want every single thing related with the MCU
Problem with Disney I mean, if you’re gonna buy these franchise then buy them with good faith, knowledge and a sense of understanding why it’s so popular to the masses not just because when you bought them you totally own the whole direction on each property. And creative differences among the studio is enough for them to suppress themselves to make a great opportunity of what should have been an impact.
Every time I hear exclusive licensing rights I cringe, it's the death of game artistry. and an insult to fans, like if I saw x-men in a fighting game i'd pass on an RPG with the same characters. The dumb companies are so afraid to share they lose money, and we lose the best games and movies. I lot my interest in MVC when it went 3d, but I love to see a mvc2 remake/sequel using sprites or at least the same style as Dragonball FighterZ.. but wont happen.
A new MVC game depends on Disney more than Capcom. Though even Capcom themselves aren't that big into fighting games anymore, they still do Street Fighter but that's about it. They used to do fighting games left and right in the 90's, nowadays they're mainly about Resident Evil.
I grew up playing UMVC3 and I love that game so so much, one of my favorites besides MK9. I love the cel shaded design and combos. I have played the other games in series though on cabinet , and gotta say MVC2 is god tier for a reason. I still play it with friends and can’t help but feel the intense wave of secondhand nostalgia.
My uncle used to have Marvel Vs Capcom 2 for the original Xbox. I currently own Marvel Vs Capcom 3 and Ultimate MvC 3 for the Xbox 360

I don’t think we’re likely to get another Marvel vs. Capcom game soon with Disney keeping Marvel so close to their chest and Capcom only just starting to look like they’re getting passionate about fighting games again. Though SNK has been on an upswing lately, so maybe a Capcom vs. SNK game is on the table.
A new Capcom vs SNK game would be fun, but knowing Capcom now, it would have ugly 3D characters.

So base it on older versions of the characters then. If you must include characters from movies and comics, give them classic costumes as an alt. Problem solved. You don't have to sit through a crappy story mode. Just go online and play to your heart's content. Look at how cool that Cyclops mod is for UMVC3. That's straight out of the 90s!
@@macuser7048 That ultimately depends on Marvel and they are currently too focused on trying to make characters like Iron heart, Miles Morales, Ms Marvel and Captain falcon replace the iconic versions of the characters that they would probably make Capcom use them instead of Iron man, Spiderman or Captain America

There are a few games I think we can all agree that we grew up playing with cousins/friends during sleepovers. MVC2 was one of those games, hours on hours with plenty of chars for a roster. Too many games now roster counts are so low it’s sad. Games won’t be the same as they use to unfortunately. I’m glad I grew up in the era I did.
When Cable appeared in MVC2 I can't stop thinking of all the possibilities that CAPCOM has to offer. CAPCOM can definitely create strategic fighters out of any MARVEL characters.

I just wanted to thank you for making video content that was both education and entertaining, which made doing the mind-numbing data entry more pleasurable. I also want to thank you for turning this channel around back to the video essays. I was here when it was originally video essays, and I bare down and struggled through when it was "Too Tall Desk," when it was just ranting about popular games and current gaming events, which was just to appease to the TH-cam algorithm. MvC2 will always be my favorite fighting game of all time. I put hundreds of hours into it playing online on PS3. Damn, I wish they would release it for PS5 🙏🏽
A remaster of this game would honestly work, with additional characters for the x men and fantastic four characters, maybe even skins for existing characters (you know the whole characters are just functions debacle).

They made an MVC collection for arcade 1up. Those capcom arcade collections continue to sell well. All that needs to happen is for both sides to shake hands and the series would get back on the right track.
Love these games so much! My favorite 3 are definitely Marvel Vs Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom 2, and ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3.
I have been a lifelong lover of fighting games and tbh imho the one thing that is holding the genre back from attracting more eyes is ironically DLC characters. They break competitive in such a way that to be competitive you must buy them all. In many cases these characters are unrestricted in ranked online play and often used in tournaments, meaning in order to practice their combos, movesets, and ultimately learn how to fight against them it's either lots of trial and error vs people who have already learned this character, or pony up the cash to get them yourself. The popular competitive genres don't have this problem because they're based off of free to play models where additional paid content is entirely cosmetic, or can be earned through gameplay. The other major problem holding back fighting games is complexity, this is inherent in the genre though and often games that try to combat this don't do well with the crowd of long time fighting game enthusiasts, making it a difficult problem to solve. Ultimately though I wish we could go back to unlocking characters through hard work and gameplay, not by throwing additional money at the problem.
The concept of DLC isn't bad.. The monetization mechanism is what makes it terrible..
Marvel couldn't stop putting down roadblocks, and Capcom couldn't shake off the internal reputation of it being their "budget" franchise. If they could swallow their pride and listen to what fans actually wanted, they wouldn't have lost so much money and goodwill.
I really hope Marvel VS Capcom makes a return but good than last time with Infinite trash… can we also have mvc2 come back for game consoles and not JUST arcades?

Well they just announced marvel vs capcom fighting collection
Now, the 12 new characters were originally gonna be like DLC in Ultimate but the decision that Capcom made to not make them DLC but as part of the base roster was Questionable but it was smart, plus Don't leave out the fact that Marvel 3 did indeed have a slight development issue when releasing Ultimate back in 2011: Strider Hiryu. He was originally not supposed to be part of the roster or the game because Capcom did not own the Strider IP. The people who owns that IP was none other than Hiroshi Motomiya, Kadokawa Shoten & Moto Kikaku. However due to fan demand, Capcom & Motomiya actually managed to work things out & they [Capcom] managed to have Strider Hiryu in the game & the fans were relieved as Strider was actually met with positive praise from Fans & Critics.
Not to mention the unfortunate 2011 Japan earthquakes.
Hope Capcom would try to make a MvC collection like they did with the other collection series

It will never surpass MVC1 and 2, but UMVC3 and MVCI ain't bad. Just not my style at all. Kind of wish we had that MVC2 Arcade 1-Up cabinet in console form because that collection is pretty much perfect and everything I could ever ask for.

I don't think it's really accurate to call fighting games the "red headed stepchild" of gaming. There are lots of big budget and high profile fighting games coming out. Fighting games, like any other genre, come and go as far as being the genre that's the most played by the most people, but MvC Infinite being bad doesn't mean that all fighting games are suddenly shunned. I don't even play fighting games anymore (for various reasons, mostly that I'm bad at them lol) but I can still see how many good ones are coming out on a pretty regular basis.

I feel like your underselling how loved UMVC3 is and also simplifying the issues with MVCI with just "disney killed it" and not acknowledging they owned them during 3s development, and capcom not giving the game a miniscule budget, also calling it just a "rehash" of infinty war is just a little insulting to the mechanics the setting brought to the game.
tbh i think UMVC3 is actuallhy really cool, sure its not the 2 but the cell shading still holds up today and the game feels smooth with a lot of tech to learn (plink dash, wave dash, thc infinities, tri jump, etc)
I think you might have missed the part in the video where he says that it is universally been accepted as a great game. Infinite is the one that people don't really like I mean some people like it I guess the gameplay is fun is what some people say but it just looks ugly and the roster is not really impressive.

Playing mvc2 feels like they wanted to create the geeatest game ever, the amount of characters is just impressive, mvci feels like an advertisement for the mcu, the characters were carefully picked not because theyre fan favorites, but because they had movies coming up soon. Also nobody talks about it but X23 is a poor replacement for the OG badass assassin Psylocke.

The fighting game genre is just as popular as ever. Mortal Kombat, Tekken and Street Fighter still sell millions. Guilty Gear, King of Fighters and Undernight are still doing well.

Disney is responsible for all that. They alone decide what Capcom could use and couldn't use as assets and at the time Fox owned the rights to the movies, so Marvel went out of their way to hamstring and bury the X-Men and FF franchises in order to pressure Fox

It’s all sad when people have been clamoring for Megaman X to appear on an MvsC game only for it’s installment to put their curtains to shame on his game debut. They could have done things better.
Disney was it's downfall along with Dragon Ball Fighters. Disney being control freaks over the characters and what they allowed or not allowed to include. Also they used it to promote the Marvel movies.
Capcom already had their decades of history with this franchise. Disney didn't have to be involved.

Sadly after the trainwreck of Deadrising 4 Capcom closed the doors of the studio that made dead rising 2-4 ,(Capcom Vancouver) but since it was Capcom who made the original Deadrising 1 ,(the best imo)
they could make an DR 5 but then again after the dumpster fire of 4 and sales and all of the above it’s probably the death of Deadrising, which is one of my favorite video game franchises.

I know it didn’t have a gigantic outreach, but it did have a really dedicated community spawned by primarily the first and second game. Such a shame. This is a wonderful video, that is very researched, and obviously done with a lot of passion, however, when he said MVC2 fixed the issues with overpowered characters dominating the tournament landscape I nearly spit my drink out. For over 20 years, roughly 10 of the 56 playable characters are the only characters you see in top 8 of all tournaments anywhere. It is known to be one of the most unbalanced games of all time with over two thirds of its roster being mostly useless at hi level and that's why people love it so much is because so much broken stuff allowed for some creativity and over the top fun.

MVC2 New Age of Heroes: Psycholocke. One of the most mobile characters, and then I'd spam Capt. Commando's lightning punch which creates a column of electricity from the ground to the ceiling underneath my opponent while I'm up in the air with the camera on me so they can't see it coming. I'd also get someone with a good horizontal beam attack to alternate between Capt. Commando with in my call ins and would just wear them down with horizontal and vertical full-screen sized attacks from call-ins. My friends hating playing against me and I'm pretty sure most of them have died of cancer since then which they contracted from my MVC2 play.
You can still play as both characters in umvc3 (pc) thanks to modders
While sure, the state of the MvC series is rather bleak, to say it's fallen right now as of 2023 is just straight up false. UMvC3 was announced for EVO as a throwback tournament for starters. It has, surprisingly, done well for what was thought to be dead during Covid. It has so many mods now. Literally UMvC3 coming back help bring back other titles. Also, MvCI still has competitors because of it's good online. I grantee the franchise has a better future than MK. I'm honestly just annoyed how the video painted the end of the series so gloom, like if you send a couple of minutes within the community you would've ended on a better hope.

As someone that grew up with X-men vs Street and etc etc, I’ll never understand why so many put MvC2 on a pedestal. It was great but MvC3 has just way better mechanics and roster choices. Hell if the next one has a bit of both it would probably become the greatest fighting game ever

The only thing disappointing about MvC3 is before it came out: I was expecting 100 characters on the roster. I didn't mind most of the newcomers (with the exception of Phoenix Wright and Rocket Racoon) but I wanted all 56 MvC2 characters to return.
I really hope that at some point in a few years, Marvel and Capcom just have a reunion, talk out what has happened with their latest game, and make sure that they never make the same mistake again. I grew up with this series since I was in 1st grade with UMVC3's release, and I don't want this iconic IP to just instantly be dead. Again, I know their latest game didn't do so well, but everyone makes mistakes. Who's to say next time will be better than before? However, given that MvC 3, or MvC in general, is finally getting revived in EVO 2023, I have some hope that the next Marvel vs. Capcom game is gonna happen soon. We'll just have to wait and see what happens next.

I’m surprised you didn’t mention how the only legitimate way to play MvC2 on modern hardware is to buy a $700 arcade cabinet that couldn’t even go online at launch.
Anywho, I’m hopeful that Street Fighter 6 is successful enough to warrant a proper MvC4 (let’s just pretend Infinite was a weird in-between game), and hopefully a new Darkstalkers as well.
Right now the best chance we have are the modders who started to make new characters for umvc3

Fittingly; 'TvC' had more or less the same character licensing issues that the 'MvC' series had. As noted on Top Hat Gaming Man's analyzation of 'TvC', when the developers at Capcom would ask the licensing holders of Tatsunoko why certain characters (such as the 'Samurai Pizza Cats' cast) were made off-limits, the latter would refuse to evaluate further and instead make another suggestion of whom to include.
Marcel vs Capcom 1 and 2 are my favorite. The rest before it and after it - not so much.

Actually for Marvel versus Capcom there was no problems with licensing what characters like X-Men and Fantastic Four it was just because Disney did not own the film rights to the series they didn't want them in the game despite having the rights to use them in any other way outside of the movies
Vs is pronounced versus, not verse. Anyway, I still sometimes watch videos about MvC2; that game still has legs, thanks to software like Fightcade keeping it alive.

In miss this series I loved playing MVC3 and 2 when I was little my childhood fighting games along with MK
MVC was great until they got greedy. MVC 2 was the best version had the most characters and best gameplay. All they had to do was come back in part three with virtually the same gameplay with better graphics and more characters and everything we loved from part 2. Instead in MVC3 they gave us less characters, less options and dumbed down the gameplay
Vanilla Marvel vs Capcom 3 being put out to pasture less than a year after release for an Ultimate version was pretty bizarre, but I think the earthquake that happened in Japan at the time altered their DLC plans and made them decide to release Ultimate as a standalone game instead. Sure it might have seemed a little scummy at the time, but the result was one of the hypest fighting games ever made with a cast of so many memorable characters. For as broken as Marvel 3's top tiers are, there's still tons of viable characters that result in probably the most balanced game in the series. Don't know why this video implies Marvel 3's gameplay is bad, I tend to think it's pretty great with lots of combo variety and a power fantasy like no other. It does seem that casual fans argue Marvel 2 is better purely on its roster size, but how many of those characters actually get used that much? Does anyone actually use characters like Marrow, Spiral, Anakaris, Nash, or many of the other underdeveloped characters that can't compete with the top tiers like Cable, Storm, and Magneto? Marvel 2 isn't a bad game, don't get me wrong, but I can't help but feel its roster is a bit of a case of quantity over quality, while Marvel 3's roster is a tiny bit less quantity but a lot more quality, trimming a lot of the fat and, fleshing out what's there and making really creative additions. Not to mention at the time, characters like Deadpool, Dormammu, and Rocket Raccoon were pretty novel picks while Capcom had stellar new additions like Dante, Vergil, and Phoenix Wright. I think Ultimate Marvel 3 sits up there as the pinnacle of the series. It's just a shame it lacks rollback netcode.
As for Infinite...another case of this video misjudging the gameplay. The presentation and roster of that game are incredibly weak (the roster lacks both quantity and quality), but the gameplay is one of its only redeeming qualities.
