man ive been following you since day one huge fan and i can see this channel becoming the top painting channel on the net!! your bloodthirster was unreal . i steal every recipe from you :P but that paper part was redic hard . im using this currently for a darkshroud and the paper was like one pass and i went down to the plastic and i used a brush on hardcoat which i can never get smooth, but in the past and when i was in my prime before illness i would only use brush on i swore by it and churned out amazing things and now with my medication its like parksinsons so the shaking makes it impossible to get the same blends and details . :(
Such a lot of tips and tricks packed into this 1 video. The power of the stipple is quite something! Really like the finish you've done on this. Thanks for sharing.
I really enjoy your tactile approach to painting, you really aren’t afraid to get in there with the brush (whether manipulating it from every angle, smashing it out not a model, or squishing a fat tip into wedges), abrading with a cotton swab tip, or a even just giving it a fat old finger (with Saliva Squdgy *PRO TIP* ™️) to correct mistakes or quickly push things back a bit. I appreciate how much more approachable this makes miniature painting, in that you can still be somewhat intro or novice and still get convincing results fairly quickly, or you can take it up a notch with a few other passes or advanced techniques to help the earlier steps really pop (panel washes), or to ground and unify your model (as with the basing). Thanks for producing such great tutorial videos!
Thanks so much, Eric, really glad it's useful for you! It's all easy stuff, I spend a lot of time having to correct misconceptions at shows, people make stuff out to be scarier than it is, more difficult, or suggest that you should get to a certain level before experimenting... They are wrong! As long as you're thinking about the process it's pretty amazing what you can work out. Our pleasure, my dude, we'll keep on making if you keep on watching :D
@@ArtisOpus They should be. Haven't checked to be honest but they were created by the Emporer himself and there greatest failure was the Wmporer being hurt by Horus so they were definitely around then
maybe its jus tme, but I'd love to see horus heresy style minis painted in old rogue trader style or like 2nd edition adapted to the heresy colors, but maybe thats just my nostalgia kicking in. Love your painting work, good job!
This is an amazing tutorial. I really like the chipping by wearing away the top layer of paint. I will have to try this one for myself. I am a little worried that I will end up all the way down to the plastic, but I'll try it on a test model first. I'd really like to see how you would paint Death Guard. Thanks for sharing!
If you do man, just paint there with silver, it shouldn't happen much at all, after the first time you get a feeling for how much pressure is too much :)
Nice work Byron! Would be very happy with a HH force painted to that standard! For the next one. The first ever SM that I painted some 35+ years ago was a Salamander, so will 99% be doing a Salamander army. So *wink* :D
Lion El'Jonson Legionaire is well painted. This would also be a similar colour scheme for the Raven Guard legion, I was thinking of painting a Kill Team to match the MK VI Space Marines?
top tip for bases, prime them black at the start along with the model, grab some masking tape for curves (it's a bit like electrical insulation tape, you can use that too but first stick it to your hand, then remove it to reduce the adhesion a bit or it might pull some of the paint off the rim)and put that around the base rim, when your base is done, just peel off the tape, and boom! Nice clean, painted base rims
@@ArtisOpus Any chance for some tips/a video on varnishing? I have used several, and have had the dreaded 'frosting/misting' so many times that now I stay far away from varnishing anything!
I would love to see you do Death Guard in the white colour scheme with a grimy look! I play Death Guard and I have problems doing a streaky grimy look but also shading as well
Very, very cool. I'm particularly intrigued by the highlighting of the armour. Will definitely use this as an inspiration for my upcoming Raven Guard, maybe supplementing some of those steps with oil washes and enamel weathering. Thanks a lot!
Great tutorial, thanks Byron! Really appreciate your advice and tips! Subbed :-) Would love to see your thoughts on heresy Blood Angels as I'm planning to have some traitor BA allied to my World Eaters. Cheers !
It would, but it's such a big boy! 🙄😅 For now we'll be bashing out some different schemes to help people planning an army (on marines), but perhaps we'll give it a crack in the future, when I'm not rushing so much. It looks amazing, I'd love to do a properly bright one!
Hey awesome tutorial you’ve got a new sub👍 but what silver paint did you use for the exhausts before you applied the washes? It’s got a little bit of a gold tint that I really like, maybe it’s just the camera but I’d love to know!
Hey buddy :). Yes, it's one I designed and it's here: store.artis-opus.com/collections/series-d-drybrushing I use the XXL always, and I would recommend priming it chaos black when you get it (specifically chaos black, it gives paint longer working time)
nice! how are you seperating the model from the "painting base"? and was it glued to it with superglue or plastic glue or did you use something else? I glue them on the base and then when I'm done I use texture paste and that's a hustle sometimes
Great question! I glue one foot lightly to a painting base (close to the edge of the base, to help knife access), then once I have painted I just cut a little, only doing one foot it is very easy to take it off, shave any excess from the one foot, and then you're good to go! It is man, doing an army of bases without minis on them goes *soooo* fast in comparison, people don't have a clue how much time they are costing themselves.
Nah, it's just way easier on big stuff 😅👌 careful to keep the chips small, it's tempting on larger stuff to go too big, you'll be rewarded for discipline, though!
You know how much I love yellow! I think we're done for the dark schemes, Alpha next, then maybe the yellow dudes will get some love. HH is al about happy, bright, marines, right? :D

You are the first that I have seen painting the Mark VI armour, it has helped me with my Dark Angel army. Thank you for that
No worries buddy! Enjoy :)

Such a superb tutorial packed with great painting tips. Loved the commentary, thought process and flow of this tutorial.
Thanks, dude, happy to help! We tried to fit a bunch in, most of our HH content will be 'get it on that table ASAP' focussed :D
I'm going to use this guide for painting blackshields for HH.
The blackshields are usually very aged and grimey
Good luck! Enjoy :)
Another top quality tutorial Byron. Would still love to see Custodes / Gold Armour. You never know, you may even get Henry Cavill watching!
:D Our hero! Are they in 30k? :o

I would like to see a Raptor Space Marine tutorial. This Dark Angel looks fantastic. Thanks for sharing this.
You're most welcome dude, plenty of other HH schemes in our library if you want to watch more :)

Great video, thanks for the chipping tips, bane of my painting this will help. Thanks for sharing.
This is a damn good Raven Guard Painting video. Thank you.
:D you're welcome!
Excellent- I'll have a go at this for my Consecrators army.
Waiting for a delivery of paints and watching this seems like the perfect saturday
Yes, my man! Hobby zen weekend :)
Yet another cracking video. Thanks!

How fast/steady is your taping, my dude? I feel like I'd do that less ably than side on and brushy-brushy.
I can't make out what kind of varnish your saying. Thanks!
It's GW's spray one, my man :) Thanks for the question.

Great tutorial and great brushes. I swear by those brushes.
Thanks, my man
Pumped for this!!
How'd we do? :D
Luna Wolves! Great Tutorial once again
Ah looks like I’m going to miss this one. I’ll check it this evening
Sorry to miss you dude! We broke the normal schedule to get it up there for people anticipating their weekend pre-orders, back to normal now :)
@@ArtisOpus no problems. Great vid as usual. Unfortunately I was at the beach.
I love this tutorial.
Will you be doing a sons of Horus guide? Great channel can’t wait to try your techniques out on the new box set getting back into the hobby now :)
Twisting my arm to do a variant in another version of my favourite colour are we... You may well get your wish 😅
@@ArtisOpus Could do a guide for each mini in the box set, I’m sure the vids would be super popular! Thanks and keep it up 👌
I would love to see you do Death Guard in the white colour scheme with a grimy look! I play Death Guard and I have problems doing a streaky grimy look but also shading as well
Great instruction, would be great to see some Alpha legion "love" especially how to get the metallic green blue effect, thanks
And I posted that before I got to the end of the video!

Makes loads of sense dude! I think it'd look amazing, I'd probably be using those steps if it were a personal project, they'll finish it off nicely!
Airbrush cleaner is a nice middle ground between water and alcohol
This is a great point! Plus brushes get a purge :D
Thanx Byron
Thanks as ever, Chuck
Outstanding! Any help on red line markings for DA would be appreciated.
so you just wet the q-tip a little and rub the edges to get the metal to come through?
Yup!
Would be handy if you wouldn’t mind listing the paints used in the description.
Entirely correct, we normally do a frame, it was forgotten in this one, sorry! More recent tutorials have it timestamped.
Alpha legion please, would be interesting to see your take on it
Check insta for my testing process :D

What size cotton buds are you using? They seem so fine. Everything I have available to me are just regular sized q-tips and the like

@@ArtisOpus thank you very much, this will help :D
@@ArtisOpus What glue are you using on the painting base and what glue are you using on the finished base?
@@ArtisOpus so I tried it on my eradicators. the basing was easy but it was a little bit weird to glue them on an uneven surface
Would this technique work on vehicles or does it require a different approach? Again, thanks for the vid Byron
