40k books reference "Electro-candles" but it's never explained how they work. There's probably a a whole forge world dedicated to making those imitation LED candles.

For the reliquary bones lore: Space marines carry some of the bones of their fallen brothers, especially bones from brothers than either completely fell or are now assigned to Dreadnaughts, as a badge of honour and rememberance.

Okay, so maybe it's a Deathwatch recruitment drive. I'll admit to speaking out of ignorance. I don't know Deathwatch specifics of when they repaint/replace their armor and when they get their shoulder pads.
@@glenbaker4364 upon joining the Deathwatch marines paint their armour black and move their chapter pad from their left arm to their right. They then put the Deathwatch pad on their left arm. Said Deathwatch pad and entire left arm becomes silver.

As a non marine player, ive always kind of wanted to paint a marine just for fun. Painting one of each chapter just for display actually sounds like a really fun project. I might do this someday
Nothing stopping you from painting Azrael as a Black Templar. Maybe a head swap, that fancy axe from the blade brothers kit or the sword wielded with both hands. There are options if you want to run your theory crafting

I'm sure that Jay knows that flames are lighter at the bottom and darker at the top, and that he paints them back to front to trigger folk like me. This Marine series is a lot of fun.

love it jay! one thing though: the arrow is the troop symbol. Assault is the 4 arrows (same as fast attack). Could have done the crux terminatus since hes a veteran. But i like your so much more than the tron marines of GW
Jay you’ve done a great job but you’ve gotten some details slightly wrong. You’ve painted the wrong knee (this is where DA company markings go) and the wrong colours (top red quarter would be green and bottom red would be black for 5th company) and a standard intercessor would have a red double arrow horizontal for battle line troop with a white squad number over it. Also our second company is the Ravenwing
As a relatively new dark angel, really appreciate that bit of advice about the sternguard! I actually have all those units and have been trying to figure things out.
Love this mini love the shade of green it's like a dull salamanders tone, almost a classic army green, really lets the darker elements pop better than the usual overly dark caliban green.

Good luck on the fine rainbow stripes. Storm Giants - Unknown Founding (possibly during the 36th Millennium, so between 15th through 21st foundings, maybe older) - These Salamanders successors are described as being even larger and stronger than the marines of other chapters. I wanna see how you can do with kitbashing the size of your marines. Storm Wardens - Unknown Founding - Mostly because I love the idea of Scottish Space Marines.

Also seriously, get a candle and light it Jay, just check which part of the flame is the brightest - just don't use an air brush or spray primer anywhere near it!
Dark Angels is my favourite, it was cool to see how you'd tackle them :) The decal for tactical is different for Dark Angels as ours is a double headed arrow horizontally, but I liked the method for blending them into the armour. I need to try weathering more ^^ Cool vid Jay :)
If you ever have the inspiration, I would love to see your take on an Alpha Marine doing the cool decloaking effect that so many people have done throughout the years. Even though it's not cannon that they have that kinda technology, it still looks so cool and iconic that is has essentially been made into canon (IMO)!
The Dark Angels are the only space marines I paint and play, and it's all thanks to Lion El'Jonson. His model made me love them and now I have way to many of them lol.
Jay you should give a Sons of the Phoenix marine a try! It's a perfect excuse to try another wacky way to paint white armor, and the purple/pink/magenta arm would be a nice shake up. Plus they're TOTALLY loyal!
I'm no Dark Angels player (I already play Ultramarines, Blood Angels, Templars and Imperial Fists, and also Grey Knights) but to me the Dark Angels best embody the Grim Dark gothic feel of 40k and being medieval space knights helps that, and i did build a Dark Angels tactical squad using their old firsborn upgrade kit because I think it adds a ton of flavour and was one of my favorite upgrade sprues
I think Lore wise (where is the fun in that) the Dark Angels use the red double-headed arrow for markings. The Upwards single white arrow may have been phased out but it wasn't listed in the 9th edition codex. All my 1st born have the white single point arrow as I have the shoulder pads with the mouldings for this in abundance.
I love all of your artworks so much and just you have this demeanour that makes the hobby really feel "genderless" that took me from a casual collecting nerdy girl who has that "toxic femineity" mindset of "hey I shouldnt be into warhammer" to now having some of the most insane award winning armies and countless hours of really enjoyable memories of painting, playing, reading. I agree that the Sword Brethern kit is amazing for many conversions. I tend to grab one when I see it. I even bought and ordered Black Templar bits. But I should definitely start an army soon. The pile is a pile.
I field dark angels and for the bases i used snow/ice bc the blues blacks and whites contrasts really well with the green, red and bone colors of the DA.
Thats just the standard assault icon for SM, DA have the double arrow to designate tactical style squads, which are also all red so it was definitely uncomfortable seeing a white squad icon lol and they wear their company insignia on the left kneecap as well
You’re forgetting that sternguard vets get the deathwing keyword, and the inner circle task force allows rerolls for every deathwing infantry unit when shooting something on an object of your choice. So they can be pretty good.

I would really like to see what you Can Do with the red scorpions chapter in grimdark style There isnt any grimdark version on youtube atm Forgeworld made some mini for this chapter some years ago and it brings the red scorpion to light a little, and the color scheme is really beautifull imo I think youre almost done with the well known chapters so... This was great. I play Disciples of Caliban who are a successor chapter to the Dark Angels. The candle idea looks intriguing.

I agree that the Sword Brethern kit is amazing for many conversions. I tend to grab one when I see it. I even bought and ordered Black Templar bits.
But I should definitely start an army soon. The pile is a pile.
I field dark angels and for the bases i used snow/ice bc the blues blacks and whites contrasts really well with the green, red and bone colors of the DA.
Enjoyed the cool modeling, and I liked the lore. But the base and the highlight make the marine look like a Salamander.

Thats just the standard assault icon for SM, DA have the double arrow to designate tactical style squads, which are also all red so it was definitely uncomfortable seeing a white squad icon lol and they wear their company insignia on the left kneecap as well
You’re forgetting that sternguard vets get the deathwing keyword, and the inner circle task force allows rerolls for every deathwing infantry unit when shooting something on an object of your choice.
So they can be pretty good.

Forgeworld made some mini for this chapter some years ago and it brings the red scorpion to light a little, and the color scheme is really beautifull imo
