When Mummy became its own venue, mummies were overpowered compared to other splats. So much so that few story tellers would allow mummy crossovers for fear that other player characters would get curb stomped.
I have played many of the World of Darkness games and Chronicles of Darkness (NWOD) games. The old one had some great lore but left less room for creating your own. The new one had all the creatures play much more similar making them feel a bit less unique but the world was overall more consistent and compatible while leaving more room for creativity. I would love to see him cover Geist: The Sin-Eaters because that felt was in many ways the most unique.
It would be very interesting to see the character creation for the other two Mummy games (The Resurrection and The Curse) to compare the differences between them :)
I hear that unlike other world of darkness games, mummies are their strongest at the start and they become weaker as they 'level up' is this true or not? I am curious.
@@the_multusconsidering it's called Curse, I assume one accepts a powerful gift that curses them, limiting their power and killing them. Ergo, strongest right after the curse? It's honestly a contextual guess, but I feel like it's probably somewhat true
Okay I know very little about Shadowrun. Are the first, second, and fourth editions too similar to the others to warrant their own videos, or are they just bad?
1, 2, and 3 aren’t actually different editions so much as refinements. There are three FX major systems in the game. Magic, matrix, and firearms. The matrix system gets overhauled completely between 3, 4, and 5.
@@zigmenthotep I didn't know it wasn't part of WOD from the start, it can wait until you finish the main classic ones (or at least the interesting ones)
I like the NWOD/Chronicles of Darkness just fine. Always have. I guess people’s issues were just “they changed it, now it sucks.” A silly reason not to like something.
I think people were mostly mad not because it was different, but because its existence seemed to invalidate all the time and money they invested in the oWoD as at the time the nWoD was brought in only after the end of the oWoD. Now with the 20th Anniversary and 5e stuff the two exist side by side, but that wasn't the case back in 2004. Personally, I love the mechanics of CoD and think the Changeling the Lost, or just plain mortals, are the best way to play the Storyteller (dots and d10s) system.
My assumption is Mummies have less of a fan base due to not having a "big movie/game" to inspire. Most mummies are kinda just sandy magic zombies. Ironically I have more investment due to yugioh than from usual mummy sources.
The scope here seems kind of limited. Mummies as monsters (not actual mummies) aren’t very conducive to storytelling, being basically zombies with curses. 0:46 oh, it’s a supplement. That does make it more viable.

Mummies are pretty badass with their literal immortality.
Would explain why they were removed all together in subsequent editions even today. Course homebrew never dies.@@zigmenthotep
Is it true that in WoD lore Switzerland is completeky free of Supernaturals bc there's a single mummy somewhere in the mountains?
@@juliamavroidi8601 Horus himself dwelt there for a long time.
i loved watching "mummies alive" and i still love the show even nowadays!

Would be very interested in seeing some other World of Darkness stuff like "Immortals" und "Magus"
There is stuff for it. Also stuff on the web.
I wish BJ Zanzibar's was still online. I'd point you there.

Nice video. I actually own but haven't played mummy the resurrection and this was definitely an interesting look at what it came from.
I love you are using the first ed WoD books for this.

Honestly can't say. I've never actually gotten to play it and looking at the mechanics doesn't give a good impression of long-term play.
You’re thinking of The Curse I suspect, for which this is true.

Suggestions: world of synnabarr, sojourn, Shadowrun 3rd, shadowrun 5th, shadowrun 6th,

Very cool character.
Next WOD game, another about dead brought to life: Promethean The Created
Definitely gonna do Frankensteins at some point, just not sure if I want to jump back and forth between the two World's of Darkness

I used to love Mummies Alive :)
And then there's *Wraith: The Oblivion.* It's basically Just In Case You Thought Our Other Games Weren't Emo Enough, The Game.
So do the mummies look like normal people?
Yep, just normal folks eternally at the age of their original death.
Did something happened to the FATAL character creation?
This! We! Need!
I had a scheduling conflict and haven't rescheduled yet.
@@zigmenthotep I'll be waiting then

I've never heard you question the handling of lore from other cultures albeit I haven't seen every video from you though.
I’ve got a big request would you talk or do a game about mummy,
I have always been curious why this game never gets played ?
