4:45 I just watched SG before this. Together you provide a well rounded picture of the car you both review. Its nice getting different perspectives on the same model. I enjoy your brief.
16:12 - you can turn off the Driver Attention alerts within the infotainment system. Same as in the current RX. That was the first thing we turned off. Turning it off does not turn off the other safety features, so its a win-win.
Beautiful SUV. The hybrid option should increase performance and gas mileage. On another note, we spend part of the year in Tucson. I hope you had a good experience in the area. We love it down here at this time of year.
Great video Tom, Tucson looks adventurous through the big greenhouse! Very exciting to see a new SUV of this size available without the burden of a third row. If Lexus is reading, I do wish we could get all the luxury features (especially the aniline seats) in the overtrail line with no third row, or that we could choose to delete the third row from the luxury line. Thanks again
Tom, You chose the right colour of GX for this video, that dark blue is CLASSY. 🤩 Speaking of classy, we really appreciate 16:40 the disclaimer that reminds us TH-camrs like yourself often get a free trip when covering vehicle launches like this. 👍
definitely will freak out the above-20 mpg crowd! s'ok, Lexus has the TX. tks Tom for the hint ;p this larger than midsized body on frame boxy high-rake SUV is a heavyweight for sure. it's for the big suv lovers ones where they hazard to say how come the V8 wasn't there!
Oh dear. Tom, I have to point out a typo again. 1:01 Katelyn Salzman is (I assume) an analyst, and not an anaylist. Sorry to be a nitpicker. I enjoyed the Lexus GX 550 video, but it is certainly not a vehicle for me. I am more of a Honda CR-V kind of guy.
God bless you, Tom. Thank you for talking about noise at highway speeds. Loaded, maybe pulling a 3-5k lb trailer, on the highway, that’s what most people will be doing with these.
Good clear review much better than others that I watched. Second gen GX owner here (also owns a 4Runner). Definitely excited about the 3rd gen and looking forward to upgrade for the styling alone! However It’s unclear what exactly is the capability improvement (the trail looks very easy for my Gen2). After 10 years I am still very happy with the v8 and the off-road capabilities. Only real upgrade is the infotainment system. Features that you like - knee pad 9:19 is standard on the Gen2. Pop-up rear glass 13:00 also standard on the Gen2. The hatch is so vertical when it opens it will hit the car behind so parallel parking will be a problem (old swing door can be opened a crack if needed).
Yes, the trail was much easier than Lexus wanted, part of the course was under water due to a flash flood. The upgrade is in the suspension and frame. The structure is noticeable more rigid and the on-center feel is is significantly more planted. The hatch opens so it will not hit the vehicle behind (unless you're literally parked bumper to bumper). It's something I consider when checking the cargo area out.
With so many places to store water bottles, and with Americans aging, some manufacturer is bound to offer a chilled catheter option soon. 😊 Enjoyed this, Tom!
Excellent video Tom. And I do think this blue GX is the best looking one I've seen so far. I still think the outgoing one looks better but I have to say this 550, in this blue, with those wheels, is starting to grow on me!
Nice review Tom as usual. I wish lexus would have used the hybrid from the Sequoia and put a Panoramic roof standard except for the overtrail model for in case you wanted a top storage.
Looking forward to seeing what they do with the hybrid powertrain and if it will be a MPG or power-focused setup. Whichever, it better come with at least a 2kw outlet in the back like the new Land Cruiser offers.
I’m gonna wait at least 5 years til they iron out the kinks, and at least offer a hybrid power train. 12 MPG is just unacceptable - I don’t care if I make 6 figures, that’s just a needless expense.
Holy review review from 1999 Tom, do I need to be printing out all my emails before Y2K? Did they not let you into the Overtrail when you told them you were from the AARP?
From 3:28 to 3:51 … the front overhang … they claimed it was a challenge to design it as short as it is. However, the Toyota Landcruiser, which is the identical ‘brother’ to the GX, has a much much shorter overhang. Makes no sense reg the GX … they could have made it short like the Landcruiser …
With all the puns in the intro, my guess is someone has been watching "Succession" on HBO. Oh, and thank you for the nice & clear disclosure at the end. All youtube creators ought to do the same. Overall, I think I will wait & see what the new 4Runner looks like.

Great review! I love the new styling but hate the wheels in this tester. Not a fan of machined wheels. The interior is okay, not as exciting as the exterior.
Yes, Tom. Lincoln should build a luxury SUV based on the Bronco platform. Call it a Mountaineer. And give it a solid roof. None of this kid removable roof stuff. Great review, and my hard earned dollars would probably go to a high-trim Landcruiser. The V6 is well suited in the Sequoia and LX but probably not needed in this version of the platform. The 4-cylinder powertrain is almost as powerful and saves weight. And a teeny bit of fuel. And you would be less afraid to knock it around a little.
I'm really wanting to look at the base model. How's the ride stability vs a 4 runner? My 2022 sr5 runner feels like a constant workout to keep it center lane and not swerve. And going around corners at slow speed in a parking lot it's always jiggling feeling. Have they corrected this or yota body on frame still tipsy??😊😊😊😊
Gas mileage is great! I see a huge market for middle age guys who have been driving Tundra's and other full size trucks for the last 15 years (yes, that's me). Easily beats my Tundra MPG.
I loved your review, one of the most thorough complete ones that I’ve watched! I’m interested in getting this vehicle but living in SoCal I’m probably going to save up and wait for the hybrid to come out! :)
Working for a subcontractor of Panasonic, you can see the how and why of Japanese engineering success. The American counterparts DO NOT take things as serious. Kinda depressing, and embarrassing at times.
Anyone in the US, don’t be discouraged by the eye sight sensor. You can turn it off and it will stay off the next time you turn on your vehicle. I believe in some parts of Europe, it’s required on new cars and you have to turn it off each time you start the vehicle.
Looks cool and all but the off-road version needs more ground clearance. My OBW has 9.5" and could use another inch or so. I assume this is the Lexus version of the Sequoia or is it the Land Cruiser?
Looks great, Toyota reliability, 5 or 7 seating. The only disappointing aspect, a lack of colours for the price point... yes, yes, I know they are a business, maximize profits etc...maybe offer a custom colour option? Otherwise far superior to the Europeans for the money.

Lexus should listen to some people complained about the old GX no room at all behinds 3rd row seats! So who remains? I’d say this is probably a fashion statement for people who want to look large and in charge, want a luxury interior, and are willing to overlook the dismal MPG and cost of premium fuel.

100% agree - calling that out is pure integrity move.
That low mileage with premium gas pretty much breaks the deal for me. I'm waiting to see what Nissan does with the Armada for 2025.
