I respect your personal opinion; However this is not a fair comparison
It's just showing the Lexus's GX flaws versus the Defender's advantages.
Even when there’s a positive point with the Lexus GX you say it in a very low tone or just bypass it even the well known good features you make it sound as something bad; one example everyone considers setting high is a plus for an SUV you made it something bad or a flaw.
I hope you accept my criticism.

@@stop_lying_brono, I dig the Defender, but it’s very obvious to me there’s a fair bit of bias in this video. Definitely not talking about, much less comparing, apple to apples here. Defender does start lower in price but has a ton of options that add big money to the finished product, much like the one in this video.. Also, of course you can’t compare the two off road! If you could, the Lexus would come out on top because again, we’re not comparing apples for apples in trims and the GX Over trail was built for the off road. It’s also kinda rough when you have to “defend” Landrovers horribly history with reliability by stating that the new Lexus may not be that reliable; we don’t know yet. And many many more examples. So yeah, I’m a fan of both, but this isn’t a fair comparison and despite the Defender being slightly more reliable than some of its counterparts, and the GX being too new to rate its reliability, I’d put my money on anything Toyota over anything Rover in that test!

This guy is a classic Richard. He is comparing a $120K+ LR Defender V8 against a base GX that stickers at $74K. Would be great if he bothered to do any home work on the Lexus. On the engine he comments on all the problems - yet he is referring to a completely different engine that had issues on a different Toyota vehicle - which unlike LR, Toyota will replace all engines. Beyond that, it is apparent he is spinning it for the defender pointing out only issues that are flaws with the lexus. The Recovery Hooks complaint - are located under the bumper on the frame - another amateur hour miss. Another automotive twit posing as an honest reviewer. Land Rover is also rated as one of poorest vehicles in quality and reliability - while the Lexus is rated #1 - take a hike pal.

Complains about recovery points, followup scene pans around the front to show recovery points. Complains about Lexus plastic rear bumper cover being flimsy, proceeds to flex the plastic bumper cover on the defender. Complains about the $64,000 starting price of the Lexus but doesnt point out that the Defender hes testing is nearly twice as expensive. A fully loaded GX isnt even as expensive as a midrange Defender. A GX is far more likely to be used for its intended offroad design by its first or 2nd owner. A current gen Defender will not for obvious reasons. A defender is a very nice SUV to put around in while looking like you can go offroad where the GX is a offroad truck first with luxury tacked onto it. A throwback style of the 90s era of SUVs a lot of people still crave. While the Lexus has somr questionable elements like the aluminum clam shell hood and the ugly wart that covers the hitch receiver, everything else is solid. I'd prefer a V8 under the hood though.

In Sport plus the GX suspension tightens up! Did you compare the very different four wheel drive systems of each vehicle? No.

For daily use, the Defender is much better choice. It drives pretty much like a car rather than truck but is still very capable offroad and still gives you that commanding seting position (what i am after in this type of SUV's). Also you can access it much more conveniently. If you have to often cary someone with mobility issues like me, forget about the GX or LandCruiser...seniors with mobility issues can't exit or enter it on their own, they need assistance each time and it is also stressful for them (now i talk about my own experience with my mother). I don't think you can go wrong with either, the Defender is the more street oriented vehicle cos it is unibody compared to the GX, but if you want that next step in off-road capability, the GX takes that just due to it being a truck underneath, I also appreciate the massaging seats that the GX offers, which is something you do not get in the Defender. If I were picking one it would definitely be the GX for me, I prefer its styling and "presence" more, but you can't go wrong with the Defender also

It's still a crude SUV, but it looks better and is a much more authentic and honest vehicle compared to the Lexus.

I’ve been noticing that throughout the automotive world. If 1 journalist or reviewer says a new performance sedan is too heavy, then the comments are gonna be about the vehicles weight and nothing else same as with a vehicle’s reliability and that’s before the vehicle is even released. Let’s not forget some years ago Fords were regarded and IN MY OWN OPINION still are trash and unreliable, but that hasn’t stopped anyone from buying them. Now watch all the Ford owners chime in about how reliable their car or truck has been over the years. I’ve owned a 2010 Lincoln MKS sedan ( Basically a Ford Taurus) for 2 years and that sh.. was an electrical nightmare. If we all listened to or really valued a reviewer’s opinion we’d all be driving Hondas and Toyotas since they’re the MOST RELIABLE vehicles in existence.

Toyota fans are like the plague. They hold on to this myth that they don’t break and they are the best in all categories wich is BS. They even go out of their way to go comment on other videos of Land Rovers even when no Toyota is being tested. The Defender is the better vehicle with way more options and even a 2 door version. So it’ll definitely be my pick.

It ain't a myth....just google for goodness sake and read every freaking reliability ranking in 15 diff languages, and they all say LR's are trash, and Lexus is tops. Period. It's not bluster, it's data, yo! Just read. I promise you even CHAT-GPT will agree!

The Defender king of what? School runs? Mom coffee? A fully loaded GX is less than a mid-tier Defender. You can’t compare it to the base spec - that’s apples and oranges. You spend A LOT of time on aesthetics and none on actual off-road performance. I guess this review has consistent criteria - luxury and suburban use cases that have a “rugged off-road feel.” I think “king” is a name that died long ago for the Defender. “Pavement Princess” is what most off-roaders call it. Ineos took away the man-card from JLR.

@@SamCarLegion It was a Land Rover Discovery. There was a significant class action suit against them. I bought and returned the car to the LR dealer that used to be on Rt. 36 in Monmouth Cty, NJ after only owning it for 6 months. It had numerous problems including rusting, leaks, electrical issues, exhaust leak and more. It was a disaster. Bought a Land Cruiser once they paid me. Never had any issue with that. I think LRs are somewhat better now, but they just don't compare to Toyota/Lexus products. NJ lemon law protects the consume quite well. I got back everything I paid less, as I recall, 15 cents per mile, which wasn't a lot because the car was in the shop more than I drove it.

  •  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

paid by land rover aye? you did a good job kissing their behind, you should get a tip...
land rovers look great but historically spend more time at the dealer for repairs than on the road. So a lot a flash but not much substance. LC on the other hand is made to last, over engineered with built in redundancy. For people who understand substance there's no comparison between the two. One's a true off-roader that will get you there AND BACK EVERY TIME and the others an expensive accessory!

I like your videos Sam, but can you be more one sided on this one. Your obviously Land Rover bias, and this being a V8, isn’t a fair comparison. I glad you have both because I trying to decide which way to go myself. The defender has so many issues with it I can’t justify buying it. It looks great, no doubt but I don’t have time to be taking this thing back to the dealer even other month because one of the headlight housings decided not to work, or software issues, camera issues, anti freeze issues, etc. The GX build quality will more than make up for whatever negative things you point out.

Im sorry but if you make a comparison you should at least try and match the price of the vehicles.
Ive driven both that are comparible in price and evem though I agree the air suspension of the defender makes it feel nicer then the Lexus I wouldn't say its night and day.
Personally I think the defender disappoints in its interior and reminded me or the new minis which are well not great. They both have that hipster vibe to them, but thats just my personal thoughts. The Lexus felt simple and clean more what I was looking for.
Im no fanboy of any car and loved the old defender but my time spent with both I would probably choose the Lexus.

Are you talking Land Cruiser Prado or 300series. Because if it's a Prado then I'm definitely picking the petrol engine over the hybrid engine.
From reviews there's a definitely a difference and I don't think many have said they prefer the hybrid over the twin turbo. The 300 series is a tougher call but a GR sport is about 20 k more expensive than an Overtrail.
