She did a suit run through dark bramble during Final Voyage?! that's incredible. I couldn't muster the courage to do that in 14.3 billion years, serious props to her for going for it.
I actually thought it was impossible to get through the anglerfish in the "nest" in the spaceship unseen so I did it the same way (only the last half tho)
That "Oh shit... I don't get to come back, do I?" moment is so powerful. The buildup to it that has been pretty much the whole game, and then the run to the vessel is one of the most emotionally intense experiences in a video game, ever.
If it's any consolation to your girlfriend: I'm a spaceships enthusiast, a Feldspar through and through, who landed on the Sun Station, unafraid of the anglerfish and would juke around them for fun. I also died on my first advanced core vessel run. I got too close to the sun, and while over-correcting, slammed hard into a planet and got flung into dark, cold space.
I was legit terrified, like, if we die once we remove the core we will never find out what the Eye is! And then...Oh wait a minute, it's a game and you probably can just restart from your last save. Really really intense build up to that point
I had this moment 'spoiled' for me because I watched some "(Spoiler Free!)" video that stole that single sound-byte. There were about three different times where I remembered that soundbyte, "I don't get to come back, do I?" and I thought to myself, "Is... is this it? Am I about to beat the game?" before I finally went "oh.... so, this is the one." 10/10, would spoil again, glad to find the source of the clip lol. BTW: I'm really impressed that she went the long way around (to fire her scout through the bramble seed inside of the bramble seed and then follow the signal that way) and actually made it with just enough fuel. People who go naked into the Dark Bramble even though they're afraid of it, probably scare me more than the Anglerfish.
"and then the run to the vessel is one of the most emotionally intense experiences in a video game, ever." I can't agree more, with this music beginning at the moment you remove the warp core from the ash twin project, dang, the emotions I felt where amazing
That's an incredibly impressive way to finish the game! Surviving a spaceship crash to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, placing the warp core with but a sliver of fuel remaining.
My post-DLC ending went a lot like that. I was like, "dude I've done this before, why is it so much more chaotic this time???" Had more fun and met more challenge re-completing it than I expected, ahaha.
I wish you showed her reaction to the ending. Whether she understood what her final actions really meant or had a different interpretation (which is often more interesting).
If you haven't, PlayFrame Dan's run is what got me to buy the game. I knew I had to stop watching and play it myself like 2 or 3 episodes in. Then, I went back to watch his whole playthrough.
Well, I've never played this game and all I've heard about it is that its a playable existential crisis, so I guess I'll do that before spoiling myself since you have such high praises of it in the first minute and a half. Even though I'm not watching through the video I'll still just take the time to tell you how great they all are, and that your production and entertainment value are higher than most large youtubers I know. Thanks for the recommendation, I trust the experience is worth the $25.

Mad respect for continuing without the ship and staying cool even with the dropping oxigen and fuel. I guess the only way to expirience outer wilds again similar to the first time is watch someone play it. Love her noises of joy in the end^^.

the final iteration of the sun exploding theme always sends the shivers down my spine it's similarly always fun to watch someone doing "the run" finishing the game for the first time thanks for including most of that!
I watched my friend stream through the whole game and it was one of the most fun moments, having him be confused and realize things and thus eventually see the ending was so engaging and fun. Though I myself kinda gave "well if x is with x then shouldnt x be... what?" type hints.
SPOILERS. After I failed to convince him for several months, a couple of my little brother's friends from school pressured him into playing, and for the fun of it they started watching him stream it over discord while I sipped a cider in the background. He was the most cracked player of all time. Died a couple of times in Dark Bramble and got spooked, then figured out that your speed on entry carries through, slapped on "push it to the limit" and then by pure luck managed to slingshot his way through the egg chamber to the vessel. It's funny, a week after I beat this game and the DLC, I frantically convinced a friend to play just so I could watch him and try to relive those feelings of discovery and curiosity through him. It's also amazing how such a lonely experience with very little writing and traditional "emotional movement tactics" is able to be so moving. Just hearing that music at the end of the video nearly has me in tears.
i absolutely love seeing how people experience this game for the first time bc there are so many routes to take. and you never forget your first loop. my first “death” consisted of me not even making it up to the museum and dying by taking a ride on the geyser oof

I usually ignore the "play the game for yourself before watching this video" warnings, but I followed your advice for this one. I'm having a blast with Outer Wilds, and once I'm done, I'm definitely going to come check this out! Same goes for the DLC! Thanks a lot you two for that!
This game always puts me on the verge of tears. The music, the understanding that comes with the inevitable heat death of the universe, even the remark you said at 8:38, that the whole experience is saved inside your head.
"Oh shit... I don't get to come back, do I?" Damn that hit deep! My first playthrough i removed the core and just WAITED till the super nova, chilling by my ship, waiting for dead, that was my idea of ending the game hahaha. Then i spoiled that you had to do something in the mothership and went back and got the "canon" ending. I still like my "bad" ending, it was so chill
LOL I pulled it out and heard the end game music so I thought it was going to do something cool like make the sun go back to normal so I went back to timber hearth with the warp core in hand staring at the sunset, thinking about my journey, just for the sun to still explode and have the credits start rolling lol… I was soooo confused that I wasn’t able to fully comprehend the actual ending
Damn, I'm jelaous. I tried to get my girlfriend and my best friends into the game so that I can relive the magic with them but neither of them got hooked even a little bit like me :/
one of my favorite experiences with outer wilds is I was stuck on trying to get past the current on giants deep and when feldspar told me it was past his broken ship to the frozen jellyfish I thought you had to melt the ice and go inside the other root, I got stuck on that for like 3 or 4 loops and eventually I decided to look on giants deep since that had his campsite on it, and when rereading his audio log I realized that "Feldspar had already gotten to the core of giants deep by the time of making that campsite and no one had even been to dark bramble before him and since he got stuck there on his first trip it means that I was missing something unrelated to dark bramble" in other games devs would be afraid of situations like that happening since there would be no "feldspars campsite" and they would likely throw in a "I don't think theres anything left here"
aw man i didn't realized how invested i was in her playthrough until you cut away from her near the end of the game. i wanted to see her experience the whole ending!
I feel like it’d be a crime after her fear with this to put her through the horrors of the DLC, but it’d be an even bigger crime not to have her experience it.
This game is the epitome of "don't cry because it's over - smile because it happened." Even if I do cry everytime I see the ending. You can do both ;u;
Beat the base game a little while ago and figured I'd let my girlfriend have a go at it before I got into the dlc. She played less than 10 minutes. She talked to Slate once, declared that she hated the jump because you go down before you spring up, crashed the model ship immediately after taking off then letting it plumet back to the ground, jumped off a waterfall in the hearthian village and died, got the game over screen for it. Started over, complained about having to talk to people to find the observatory, complained about seeing Hal before Hornfells, after getting launch codes from Hornfells she saw the statue, talked to Hal about it, learned about Gabbro being on Giants Deep, got to her ship, looked at the log entry for Gabbro and Giants Deep, launched, saw Dark Bramble, actually sounded interested and went careening towards it at 1000+m/s, shot way past it, complained about not knowing the ship controls, I explained them to her, she was quite frantic as she sailed way past her intended target, told her to slow down and get a grip on her controls and situation and what the game was telling her. She took this as an instruction to slow the ship down, which it wasn't, and she proclaimed that she had no idea how to do that, before I explained about the Match Velocity feature of her ship and got her heading towards it again. She then sped right back up to 600ish m/s, crashed her ship against the planet, rebounded out into space in her suit, and wound up about 3km away before she got back under control. She then tried to fly her space suit back to dark bramble, complaining all the way about how slow it was, I commented once when asked if she could go faster that yes, she could, in her ship but that's ok. She did not like that answer. She got back up to 600m/s though, right as she got within 1km of the planet. She went headfirst into it and died, obviously. I did mention she might want to start slowing down by pulling back on the stick. She didn't. She got up and left as the nomai statue replayed her memories to her empty chair. She was out of the room saying the game wasn't for her before she'd even reset. Didn't have the heart to tell her to give it a second or two more, let alone a whole other try. The idea of explaining that she shot right past all the tutorials the game would give her if she just talked to people and looked around in the game about talking to people and looking around just kinda took it all outta me at the thought. Real bummer of an experience and not how I saw this wholesome and heartwarming game being taken at all. Kinda hurts, honestly. Was really looking forward to having conversations with her about it as she discovered it. She didn't even give it long enough to see 1 loop.
Man. That's a real bummer. I guess it's nice that she gave it a try at all, but her stubborn incuriousity sounds like a real downer. I could never get my GF to play Outer Wilds cause she gets motion sick in first person games. Hopefully you're able to find a game you can both share in.
Every time I watch another video about someone’s journey in this game and see their genuine “aha” moments I get teary eyed all over again. Been playing games since my dad got an Atari for me as a kid and we played the OG battle zone together, the SNES my mom gave me and the windows 95 computer I would play mechwarrior 2 and all the included games with it on. All these stupid years of video games built up inside of me creating amazing moments and giving me those precious moments of serenity and thoughtfulness at different times in my life, but this is easily the most well crafted and most substantial gaming experience I’ve ever had. Bar none
That end sequence was one of the most intense and hype sequences I’ve ever seen from a stream. Absolute madlass, can’t believe she did that shipless. She cut it SO close right there, even did it without the direct waypoint. Legendary grit
Tunic is the exact same way. You never get to play it a second time because most of it is knowledge-based. It's very rewarding to play as a result and very rewarding to watch anyone play through it blind and watch them learn and grow and understand the world. I haven't played Outer Wilds myself, but I imagine the relationship to that one is more intimate, but even then I can't think of a knowledge-based, well-curated world experience ever not being one you remember and talk about forever.
God this game makes me so nostalgic for when I had just started playing it. When I finally figured out how to get a new core for the ship and realized “I have to turn off the thing that it making it so I can ‘come back to life’” I was terrified. I didn’t play the game for a week. But I think that’s also because I simply didn’t want the game to be over. This game is the only of its kind I’ve ever experienced and I truly truly truly hope that everyone who cares to can play it some day
lovely video! i just finished the base game completely blind about a week ago and have been searching for other people's experiences and thoughts too, i loved it so much. seeing different people's interpretations as they uncover everything and those "OH!" moments feels so magical. i smiled so wide when you mentioned her relaying all of her findings over dinner, sharing these experiences and emotions of the adventure with others feels very in line with the game's ending and themes. thank you for sharing with us as well!!
I don't think there's any other game I've played that's made me feel the same levels of awe, wonder, isolation and dread all at the same time. In terms of open-world games it's not even that big... BUT... it somehow feels so much bigger than it is. And I think the music deserves some extra credit here too for helping to augment that ethereal, isolated, vastness of space. 10/10 from me and I can't wait for the sequel (should it ever come).
Sometimes I forget just how much I love this game, and then I’ll watch a video like this and even just hearing Travelers makes me emotional. What an incredible game.
I'm so jealous. I just know my wife would love it if she would give it a chance, but she won't even try the game. I played through it with my 10 yr old though. She LOVES it. We play it again now and then and I loved hearing her little kid's interpretation of what was happening at times. Sure eventually understood it and got the full story, but the children's understanding variation of events was great too. We played through Echoes of the Eye as well, and when she learned about the prisoner, watching her opinion switch near-instantly was adorable. (I tried to keep everything as spoiler free as possible in this.)
Great video! I was able to get most of my friends to play and complete the game; it was awesome hearing about their progress and the AHA moments. Over 2 years since I've completed it, and it's still in the forefront of my mind. It's definitely my favorite game of all time.
i know that feeling of crashing in dark bramble, core in hand, only one chance to finish. that's how my playthrough ended. i said goodbye to my ship, knowing this was the end of the line, and just got to the vessel with a bit of fuel left. i wouldn't have wanted to finish any other way
Razbuten did a series much like this, introducing his girlfriend to games and analyzing her experience. Can't wait to see how you take this formula and adapt on it. Always brings a smile seeing Outer Wilds on my discover page, thank you!
Okay one thing ive gotta point out because its gotta be appreciated, everyone of course has a interesting memory of how they finished this game but you can you imagine how cinematic her experience must have been for her in that last attempt, she's fought hard to get there with a corrupted save file, then one failed attempt then she tries again, loses her ship with the crash, sneaks past the fish that has killed her so many times and not just in this section and is currently running low on oxygen before she makes it. Its great to watch because its such a great moment of her overcoming it. :)
man is teasing us with that music HAVE HER PLAY IT YOU BEAUTIFUL BASTARD (also please upload her reaction to the ending of Outer Wilds somewhere, it's the only thing that brings me joy at this point ::)
This series is so sweet and cute! I love watching your girlfriend experience different games! I'd also love seeing her play The Outer Worlds or Fallout: New Vegas.
I remember when i pull out the core. First time i put it back since i wasn't ready for it to finish, i talked to every NPC and then died again. I went back to the core and i pull it out again, ready to just let it happen. Then the music start and i realize "Oh shit! The ship!" and i rush straight to the nomai ship and was so hype when i discover that was what is needed to do.
omg I did the same thing crashing into dark bramble and making it through with only my spacesuit, it makes for such a good story because it's such a struggle for survival to reach the vessel, I was running on oxygen by the time I turned it on
She has ALL my respect because she arrived to the eye without the ship, I ve never managed to do that, she s really smart, I had to search online to pass some puzzle, this isn't a very accessible game, maybe I m too used to openworld games that leads you hand to hand, Outer Wilds helped me to think with my head more than any other game.
Thanks for making such an amazing video! I'm always looking for more great outer wilds content and this was one of the best ones I've seen. Watching her get through dark bramble without the ship was super impressive and somehow thrilling also. I only wish you showed her reaction to the ending
As an experienced player, it's easy to forget how _completely terrifying_ each other planet can be when you're first confronting it. I must've spent hours avoiding each death-world hell-scape, sticking to places I was more comfortable. The feeling of confidence from learning each of those worlds, and making it your friend and home, where you can jet with confidence exactly where you want to go? Irreplaceable.
This is unquestionably the best game that was ever made! I look forward to seeing what the developer makes next! Wish I could wipe my memory and play through this again!
This game absolutely blew my mind, I was not expecting it to be so good, and I'm with you if I could chose 1 game to play again like it was the first time it would be this one
Came from the algorithm and... The game? Nice. The relationship? Wholesome. The editing? Excellent. The commentary? Pretty good. And the music, the other references? Absolutely freakin' fantastic. You, sir, have yourself a new subscriber!
I just saw a playthrough from About Oliver and he didn't panic at the end song playing like you said everyone does. He just accepted his fate and just sat there waiting for death so he could read slowly in the next loop
Great video! though would've definitely loved to see more of her reactions, especially to the ending and more important discoveries. Looking forward to the dlc video too!
Just finished the game using a mouse and keyboard. Watching her go in dark brumble shipless had me sweating, on top of that she went on an escape pod detour? Mad respect
I think the reason the game is such a cathartic experience is because it teaches you that, when you loose your fear of death, live is much better. Thanks to the unique point of view of someone who can't die, we can start appreciating the beauty of things. For example, by accepting that the sun will always explode, and accepting that every 22 minutes we go back to the beginning, we can appreciate how absolutley beautiful the supernova is, even going outside to see it better, since we know we'll die anyway. That's a beauty you can't appreciate if you are scared and looking for cover. The end is the ultimate act of acceptance, jumping into the eye of the universe without knowing what lies beyond, because we have already accepted that we'll die, so might as well discover something new. You can die afraid, or you can die enjoying life to it's fullest. And once we die, just like the nomai worked only for the hearthians to discover the eye of the universe, there will be new life that will discover the wonders of the universe. And, just like the nomai, with some luck, we would have left an imprint, and we may live through their wonder and fascination. Despite this, the fucking fish still scare me :( Edit: as for echoes of the eye, honestly I don't know what message it wants to send. If anything, when i finished it, I ended feeling more dread. Do they represent what happens when you don't accept death, where you'll live only in part, corrupted by your fear, until you meet a surprising and painful end without having really achieved anything, because they were too focused on recreating their old home to try to discover something new? Or did mobius digital smoke the biggest blunt in the world? We shall never know
This the dream........watching someone in person playing Outer Wilds for the first time and it's your girlfriend/boyfriend 😍 I've watched tons of playthrough and I'm pretty sure this would be the most fun and coolest.
Made my then girlfriend play through Outer Wilds too while I watched back in Feb, in fact she finished just 1 day before this video came out. Sadly we broke up a few months ago and I just got around to finish the DLC. While the game constantly reminded me of her, I think the DLC story is also a good reminder that tells me to move on.
Yesterday, a certain Womble was finishing his first run of the game, and since it was after watching this vid I noticed that while he was confused whether sun station was firing or not even while in the ATP, when he got to the end of the platform to disable ATP he realised it would be a "permadeath". Nice little thing I would not have noticed without this vid... EVERYONE realises the power on their hands once they open the warp core.
Hypothesis: If you enjoy this video you will like the Echoes of the Eye one :)

no it is terrifying
ohoho i'm glad you have made me aware of such things >8)

Not spoiling myself on that
"i want to roast a marshmallow on every planet"

Glad you liked it :)
I tried to get my girlfriend and my best friends into the game so that I can relive the magic with them but neither of them got hooked even a little bit like me :/
Same (minus girlfriend)
I was expecting her to panic when she heard Final Voyage
That really captured the feel of playing this game for the first time, hoping for a dlc episode 😁
one of my favorite experiences with outer wilds is I was stuck on trying to get past the current on giants deep and when feldspar told me it was past his broken ship to the frozen jellyfish I thought you had to melt the ice and go inside the other root, I got stuck on that for like 3 or 4 loops and eventually I decided to look on giants deep since that had his campsite on it, and when rereading his audio log I realized that "Feldspar had already gotten to the core of giants deep by the time of making that campsite and no one had even been to dark bramble before him and since he got stuck there on his first trip it means that I was missing something unrelated to dark bramble" in other games devs would be afraid of situations like that happening since there would be no "feldspars campsite" and they would likely throw in a "I don't think theres anything left here"
That's awesome, that's something I love about this game! :D
aw man i didn't realized how invested i was in her playthrough until you cut away from her near the end of the game. i wanted to see her experience the whole ending!
I feel like it’d be a crime after her fear with this to put her through the horrors of the DLC, but it’d be an even bigger crime not to have her experience it.
👀
1:56 yeah that it, she figured out the objective of the game xD
This game is the epitome of "don't cry because it's over - smile because it happened." Even if I do cry everytime I see the ending. You can do both ;u;
Mr. Krabs telling them to stop playing that music is an 11/10 meme
Hopefully you're able to find a game you can both share in.
i played through the entire game without ever realizing the music meant the sun was about to explode
5:05 "aww hes a cute little guy"
Everyone who's seen THEM: i think we all know where this is going
your description of watching her solve the problems you know reminds me of how i forced my friends to play portal
This game is the only of its kind I’ve ever experienced and I truly truly truly hope that everyone who cares to can play it some day
Watching the bits of her playing gave me almost the same feelings as actually playing it for the first time. It's wonderful.
Not only she went the far way around (with actually marking the Vessel with the Scout) She did that without a suit... Amazing.
lovely video! i just finished the base game completely blind about a week ago and have been searching for other people's experiences and thoughts too, i loved it so much. seeing different people's interpretations as they uncover everything and those "OH!" moments feels so magical.
i smiled so wide when you mentioned her relaying all of her findings over dinner, sharing these experiences and emotions of the adventure with others feels very in line with the game's ending and themes. thank you for sharing with us as well!!
Yay! Thank you for another amazing and hilarious video! I've always heard amazing things about Outer Wilds, hope to experience it one day! :)
We're glad you enjoyed it! :)
Loving the Starbound music. Always puts me in a trance, was awesome to find in Outerwilds another space game with music that does that.
4:49 Awesome out of context clip!
10/10 from me and I can't wait for the sequel (should it ever come).
this was an absolute pleasure to watch all the way through thank you so much for this video !!! 😁😁😁😁
Hey man, you've got a great video and you're a great presenter/editor. Surprised there's not more views for someone of your skill level
Hey thank you! :)
Judging by the title you are a wonderful boyfriend because this is literally the greatest game of all time.
”thanks for playing is out buddy” broke my heart so cute
Great video! I was able to get most of my friends to play and complete the game; it was awesome hearing about their progress and the AHA moments. Over 2 years since I've completed it, and it's still in the forefront of my mind. It's definitely my favorite game of all time.
"we're entering uncharted territory" man I love when you can hear someone's smile, it just makes me happy xD
i know that feeling of crashing in dark bramble, core in hand, only one chance to finish. that's how my playthrough ended. i said goodbye to my ship, knowing this was the end of the line, and just got to the vessel with a bit of fuel left. i wouldn't have wanted to finish any other way
7:26 "I don't get to come back, do I?"
I feel like that quote is made by nearly everyone when they reach the third act of this game.
Razbuten did a series much like this, introducing his girlfriend to games and analyzing her experience. Can't wait to see how you take this formula and adapt on it. Always brings a smile seeing Outer Wilds on my discover page, thank you!
outer wilds is so underrated for how good it is. the overall atmosphere of this game is so well made too.
The fact that your girlfriend is cool enough to try these games out is a win.
Giving no hints really showed some impulse control. Lovely video.
5:59 nice little subnautica reference
man is teasing us with that music
HAVE HER PLAY IT YOU BEAUTIFUL BASTARD (also please upload her reaction to the ending of Outer Wilds somewhere, it's the only thing that brings me joy at this point ::)
2:38 Feldspar would be proud.
3:08
I love it so much!.. I wish there would be like a full on video of her playing the game :’)
omg I did the same thing crashing into dark bramble and making it through with only my spacesuit, it makes for such a good story because it's such a struggle for survival to reach the vessel, I was running on oxygen by the time I turned it on
"I want to roast a marshmallow on every planet"
This is objectively the correct way to play Outer Wilds
I like the transition to players from panic at the end of the universe to just watch the show calmly
You are a good boyfriend to make her play this masterpiece
This is unquestionably the best game that was ever made! I look forward to seeing what the developer makes next! Wish I could wipe my memory and play through this again!
This game absolutely blew my mind, I was not expecting it to be so good, and I'm with you if I could chose 1 game to play again like it was the first time it would be this one
I am 100% guilty of forgetting my spacesuit when rushing.
Came from the algorithm and...
The game? Nice. The relationship? Wholesome.
The editing? Excellent. The commentary? Pretty good.
And the music, the other references? Absolutely freakin' fantastic. You, sir, have yourself a new subscriber!
Thanks so much! :)
1:52 reminded me of my girlfriend. That squeak. So adorable hahaha 💙
I would have find this extremely frustrating and hard, don’t know if I would have keep playing after a handful of tries.
*Gives controller back to you*
“Yeah that’s pretty cool 🙂”
You’re done already?
“Yeah it’s cool.”
oh my i was so looking forward to ending campfire - who’s NOT CRYING AT THE ENDING CAMPFIRE
This is the kind of thing where i wish we had the full playthrough to just sit and watch.
I just saw a playthrough from About Oliver and he didn't panic at the end song playing like you said everyone does. He just accepted his fate and just sat there waiting for death so he could read slowly in the next loop
Please post her full playthrough. I've been looking for a complete playthrough of the game on TH-cam
Man you should get her to play the DLC. Thats existential crisis x100 + a new nervous disposition thrown in for good measure
Great video! though would've definitely loved to see more of her reactions, especially to the ending and more important discoveries. Looking forward to the dlc video too!
What a champ for doing all of Dark Bramble without the ship.
That might have been the most goosebumps I’ve had since I did it myself two years ago. Awesome content
Beating the game is a goal, roasting marshmallow on every planet is a life goal
There is something magical about this game. Hard to explain. It will be a part of me forever.
Just finished the game using a mouse and keyboard. Watching her go in dark brumble shipless had me sweating, on top of that she went on an escape pod detour? Mad respect
"Awww, he's a cute little guy!"
A girl after my own heart
Despite this, the fucking fish still scare me :(
Edit: as for echoes of the eye, honestly I don't know what message it wants to send. We shall never know
This the dream........watching someone in person playing Outer Wilds for the first time and it's your girlfriend/boyfriend 😍
I've watched tons of playthrough and I'm pretty sure this would be the most fun and coolest.
I was literally holding my breath during her last run .. epic!
This is the first vid I saw on ya channel and the editing is on pair with 10k youtubers you sir are underrated
