My Girlfriend played through Shadow of the Colossus so she could finally learn the origins of the song I like to vacuum to. For years she's had to listen to me talk about this game and how much I love it, so it was long overdue that she played through it for herself. Hopefully, you'll find it as entertaining as I did!

good news about killing the lizards: you don't have to, if you hit just their tail they will be able to run away, and you can still get your stamina upgrade

loool. Reminds me of when a buddy was playing Minecraft and killing a bunch of sheep for wool, and his girlfriend was watching and giving him grief for killing the cute animals. You shoulda seen her face when I told them that you could craft shears to just take the wool without killing the sheep.

@@azidal3755 Two pieces of iron gives you shears, 4 and eight on the grid, you get like 2-4 pieces of wool can also be used to get tree leaves, tall grass, and vines on swamp trees
@@laharlkent I meant the lizard's. I know how to make shears. I've even purposely traded iron for emeralds to buy shears from a shepherd. Just to joke that I'm rich and can throw emerald around. Got a good iron farm/trading hall with a spruce tree cluster I keep planted outside. I keep it open to everyone but it made for a fun joke to do it once. But only once.
The first time you see the horse fall is always devastating.
The final hit that the whole thing might have been a mistake.
In the game I guess Agro survives but in real life when a horse breaks its leg its usually euthanised
Naw man, 17 years since I first played and every damn time its devastating.
I knew the horse survived but still cried when she started crying.
I was mad the horse lived, he controlled so horribly I spent most of my playthru joking about sending him to the glue factory... then when he finally did... he got ass pulled back.

the moment you said her main selling point was the horse my immediate reaction was "oh... oh no" like I knew agro came back in the credits but I remember that bridge scene ALL TOO WELL

I'm not sure that I've seen it anywhere in this footage, so just in case you guys aren't aware of it - if you unequip your weapon (ie you have just your hands selected) and you press Square while standing next to Agro, you will pet her - and this also works while you're riding her if you're standing still 😊
The button used to be Circle with the original controls, but it's been changed to Square in the remastered controls.

That must be a hell of a horse breed if a mare is the size of Agro, she's already at the point she'd weigh about one ton.
@@CruelestChris I always saw it as a way to subtly emphasize that the main character is still basically a boy, so young that his own horse dwarfs him - so they made the horse 'bigger than life'.

The theory I heard is that it's not actually his horse, but he did train her: he's from something like a tribe of horse nomads who train horses for knights like the ones accompanying Emon. Hence how skilled and confident he is with a bow compared to how clumsy he is with a sword, and how the horse clearly knows and respects him despite being big enough to destroy a car.

Hearing Taryn cry was honestly kind of devastating. You did an utterly fantastic job with this one, and making it feel dramatic and potent. That dramatic final confrontation HIT.
With this one under your guys' belt, I can't help but wonder what would happen if you played The Last Guardian...

Was always wondering if you would cover this masterpiece. Was one of my favorite games 5 years ago, and is still one of my favorites now. Even if people still aren't entirely sure what is going on in the story past the fact that you are being manipulated by, something... At least they didn't kill the mystery by trying to answer every question you have like some games do. I'm glad you both got to experience this game, and it's ever mysterious story.

1:59 Just to clarify, Bluepoint Games are the devs of the remake of SotC for PS4 (they don't change anything of the original game, just improve the graphics), but the og devs of ICO, SotC and The Last Guardian are Team ICO.

Dude, you have to get her to play the last guardian! It's by the same people that made shadow of the colossus, and has plenty of references from shadow of the colossus in it. She would LOVE trico! And she wouldn't have to hurt anything cute (other than removing spears, but that's besides the point).

Agro is best girl, amazing horse and one of the reasons I loved Shadow of the Colossus so much was just riding around with her thru the gorgeous areas, Blue Point's remake was so amazing.
Amazing as always! I have never played this game myself (PC gamer who hasn't bothered with play station porting), but I swear I've had to vicariously experience it through content creators like 4 times now xD.

I Didn't expect a video of this masterpiece of a game, but I'm so glad that you two played it!
I loved that she understood everything about the game. She knew that the camera was the worst enemy when I've seen countless lashing out on Agro but she understood she was her best friend. Like literally you don't have to even manoeuver her lmao.
Then, the point that the girl we don't know wtf is she for the main character and we only know she's for some reason important to the MC. And then all the moral questions about killing the colossus. Perfect playthrough. Glad she enjoyed it and you also did watching her. GGs
I know I'm late. But that part with Agro had me very emotional. For the WHOLE game all you have is Agro. That horse is the only thing in land that supports you. It helped you beat several of the colossi. After awhile the game sorta gets you into viewing Agro as a comfort.
Only to rug pull you and makes you realize he was more than just a comfort he was a companion and friend.

With how much your girlfriend gushed over Agro I was kinda waiting to see how she'd react to both the scene before the final boss and the credits scene. So, uh... should we tell her that a broken leg is usually a death sentence for horses?

Damn I was already going to cry from the nostalgia but then the thought of her reaction when she experiencing losing Agro was getting me there then seeing it again and then her crying oh man I was crying too. 😭 I know he comes back but that’s my fave game
My then ex-girlfriend played this (ps3 version), and she was almost the same reaction as this video. She loved horses, so that raised her bond with it; the scenery and music really captivated her and she would ask questions here and there about what to do or "what is this supposed to be" when encountering locations and colossi. Overall, she remarked that the game with its progressive storytelling, music, and environment is beautiful, challenging, and leaves you in shock and awe. It was a good experience (experiment now looking back at it) to show her some masterpieces of video games.

So I knew Agro dying was gonna hit her hard. I was READY for her to cry. I was not ready, however, for her to try whistling for him. For some reason that made it 1000% sadder.
This game is absolutely amazing!! It is very satisfying to see other people playing/enjoying a game I like. I'm happy that she had the opportunity to appreciate it.

This game is so special to me, I played it on PS2 and loves it, it's the only game I played two times in a row, I rarely replay games (not including remakes) and I never do it immediately. And while watching this video I cried alongside your girlfriend for Agro. And yeah, all my horses are called Agro or Epona, since. I doubt a sequel will ever happen but I would love an extended version with more bosses. Oh, and btw I think the rides in the vast empty spaces are just as beautiful and necessary as the action moments, they complement each others and give you so much time to think about what's happening and question your motives. One of the best game ever.
I would really love to see her play Ghost of Tsushima one day!! One of my all time favourite and you have a special bond with the horse there aswell ^^

i literally spent HOURS trying to defeat the final boss and falling over and over again (I knew how to do it, I just couldn't), I had to stop and watch the ending on youtube. I absolutely loved the game up to that point but the final boss made me instantly like it far less and remember it as an annoying game, but watching this video made me remember how much beautiful and amazing things there were before that point, so thank you I guess !

Updated version is well worth it, it looks amazing and you have the option to pick between original controls and some redesigned “optimized” controls. I’ve never really been an achievement hunter but I made sure to find every new secret to platinum this game
What a game to recommend, amazing choice. Shadow of the Colossus and ICO are some of the most emotional games I've ever played by far.
Honestly, I prefer ICO because I'm not patient enough to just admire the sights, and the story of ICO is more relatable to me, but both are masterpieces.

I played the PS3 version but gave up. Last year I went back and got the Platinum trophy and this journey made me fell in love with this game. So much so that I played the gorgeous PS4 remake shortly after. Great game. Fantastic video!

I do love riding around in the world in this game in between each colossus. My first impression was I was riding through the fields of Rohan and Gondor in Middle-Earth, the landscape just felt like it could have fit in that world.
It's pretty much the one game where an empty open world actually works
Still such a breathtaking game even after so many years.
