Hello all,
Welcome to a Victorian regional ride video. Today we take a trip on V/Line's first standard gauge VLocity taking passengers down the North-east. The VLocity operates the 12:05 service to Albury, returning on the evening 17:20, return from Albury beginning from the 30th of December, 2021. The train is the first of 18 trains to be built for long-distance operation. Changes made to the trains from the first sets of VLocitys are the addition of a cafe in the centre carriage, USB charging ports and tables that are available on every seat. The train operated as a six-carriage Vlocity, consisting of units 3VS93 and 3VS94. They will eventually replace all of the locomotive-hauled services that operating the long-distance service to Bairnsdale, Swan Hill, Warrnambool, Shepparton and Albury.
In this video we travel on the VLocity service from Southern Cross Station to Euroa. We capture parts of the journey, some in timelapse, and features of the new train.
The Bombardier VLocities were built from 2003 and are still in production. They are built out of Alstom's Dandenong factory, formerly Bombardier's, and earlier ABB's. The initial order comprised of 29 two-carriage sets, but was expanded to 38 shortly after. It was further expanded to eventually include a fleet of 106 three-carriage VLocity trains, extending all of the previous two-carriages sets extended. When the 2020 batch came into service, there was a slight external design change; the train was fitted with a new front that was redesigned in a way to allow better visibility and crash protection. The VLocity trains operate services around Victoria’s regional trains network, predominantly on short-hauled services to Waurn Ponds, Wendouree, Bendigo, Traralgon and some Seymour and Sale services. It is intended that they will take over all services eventually once the last 18 sets specially made for long-hauled services are completed.
