He was driving the Muehlner Motorsports Porsche in GTD, the car had a mechanical issue and didn't take the grid. That's about as shitty a weekend as you can have as a driver, outside of wadding up a car, and he was still out talking to fans, taking pictures, and signing autographs. As I did in fact say, he's a nice guy. As for his driving, when you've won the 24 hours of Daytona twice, been a factory driver for Porsche and Audi, and content creators reach out to you to evaluate cars, maybe I'll give a rat's ass about your opinion. The Porsche will be able to do this all day. With the reported quality and reliability issues of the new Z06, I’m thinking this car is going to be a headache in comparison. GM truly did make an American McLaren - both the good and the bad
@@993mike The issues with the Z06s will be long sorted out before the next ZR1 is released. And C8 Stingrays launched without any major issues in general either so I wouldn’t compare McLarens reliability issues with Corvettes.
@@jabariphillips8855 This might be good reading for you concerning reliability issues of Porsche vehicles particularly the GT's: "Problems with the 991.1 GT3’s 3.8-liter engine were apparent right from the start. Shortly after the release of the car, Porsche issued a recall for all GT3 models in March 2014. That notice came as a result of loosened screw joints on the connecting rods. The issue ultimately caused two cars to suffer engine fires. Porsche replaced the engine in all 785 GT3s built up until that point, and adjusted the design to prevent further issues. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the last time Porsche recalled the car for engine issues. Just a year later, 12 more GT3 received entirely new engines after a valvetrain issue related to finger followers was discovered". I think most of us car enthusiasts know the story of the GT4 issues.
So, you'll need to spend an extra $108,000 to gain a 6/10 second advantage over the Z06 at Willow Springs. That's $18,000 for every TENTH of a second. And it's probably more like a $150,000 difference with all the typical Porsche options. Completely insane!
@@Hankynopanky some people want to drive their cars, not put them in their garage for 30-years. Nothing wrong with that, seriously, but the Vette might be 'this close' to being affordable for someone in the upper side of middle class, who wants a daily driver that is fun as hell to drive and to take to the track. Where as the Porsche, that's literally just a track day car that will be rarely driven - and is built for those who collect cars and rarely drive them. Again, nothing wrong with that, people can spend their money however they want, but they're really not aimed at the same market.
ur paying 100k to be the faster car, not to be the that car that holds up with the gt3 every single year bc it seem that corvette every year aims to be faster than Porsche but they haven’t made one yet or seem to make one anytime soon…
@@rodmunch69 why would you think that all Porsche owners put their cars in garage? Porsche is one of those rare type of brands that people actually drive alot since they don't suffer from things like poor reliability when driving hard, overpriced maintenenace in every like 5000km etc. or massive price depreciation over few years. In my hometown theres '"Porsche Ring" or in other words official Porsche approved circuit and when theres a event theres always huge amount Porsche owners with both older more regular and affordable models like 4S, Carreras etc. to brand new GT3 RS'es and full blown track built cars. Corvette is pretty much a financially bad decision for the type of people who shouldn't spend that much money on car in the first place.

This was the best lap battle vid ever. No staged tie, no staged pass, full of information on the cars and the corners. I hope they do a couple of them at different tracks.
Excellent feature, brilliant editing and videography and Jason’s narration is on point as always. Putting the CSL on what amounts to be one step above all-season tires against two cars on what amounts to be race slicks with some shallow grooves is a gross miscarriage of justice IMO (obviously I’m biased).
Please, please, please make this a travelling series! The deep dive into the track layout is incredibly entertaining, and I would love to see you tackle other racetracks like Laguna Seca, Zandvoort, or Suzuka!

Lol yeah ok. 0.6 seconds is a long ways back (9 car lengths) in an 80 second lap. Not only that it’s more consistent easiest to go fast. Stick with the bang for the buck argument Vette guy.

The quality here is stupidly fantastic.. what a production and such amazing cars. The explanation of these corners makes me feel like even I could set a good time in the GT3 RS 😂
What a freakin' video. God, what a time to be alive. Props to the RS and Z06 for being this fast in the blistering cold. The ZO6 earned so much respect from me for being a luxury car inside with leather everywhere, heated and ventilated seats, 14 speakers with some of them in metal and costing way less than RS and being only 0.6 secs slower. Damn
This is a good point. If GM did a Z06 "Le Mans" or "Daytona24" edition with all of the fat stripped out like the GT3 RS, I'm sure it would make up that .6 seconds and then some.
@@RandomWrongDeletion is the z28 actually stripped down? I always thought it was just a camaro tuned for the track with a bunch of aero and a z06 engine

Considering how many weight-adding standard features the Z06 has, it is amazing it came within half a second of the ultra-light and minimalist of the RS Porsche. It would be cool if Chevy made a lightweight version of the Z06. Hats off to the BMW for even coming near the lap times of the other two, considering it is a coupe and not a true sports car.
There’s a half mile long corner with a MINIMUM speed of 127. The z06 has more power. The gt3 still won. 0.6 seconds only seems small when you do a single lap. Do a full race and then see how big the gap is. I’m not hating. The z06 (c8) is the first chevy that didn’t make me throw up. It’s a good car.
@@sportbikejesus the GT3 RS has an active rear wing that opens up in the middle to reduce its drag, and it weighs 500lbs less than the Z06 and makes about 150hp less. Their power to weight ratio is almost even with the Z06 having a slight edge, and the GT3 RS has 30% less drag than the Z06, so that more power argument is invalid at high speeds, then there's the fact that the Z06 had a brief braking issue in one of the corners caused by a false sensor reading in the brake by wire system. A 0.6 second gap considering all that is impressive to be that close
This is just next-level journalism and competitive vehicle comparison. The turn-by-turn breakdown with Randy on track and Jason on track is movie magic. Great job guys, keep up the great work!
I feel it’s a bit unfair of a comparison. The tread rating difference between the tires on the CSL and Chevy and Porsche is humongous. The tires alone could easily make a 2 second or more difference.
I've owned two Corvettes, and three BMW 4-series - and frankly it's amazing they can tune the 4-series chassis to the point that it can stay in the same ball park as these two. I will say, however, the 4-series is a fantastic handling car for its size, very precise, but I'd never think in a million years it could be tuned to this point as the Vette is so much lower to the ground and you're in much more of a sports car driver position. Some amazing engineering going on. If you could have just one of the two, it would be tough to choose if the price gap wasn't there.
@@rodmunch69 I agree with you completely but I’ve always been a Corvette guy. I’ve owned 8 total I still own 5!! For me the Vette especially the Z06 has no rival for cost for performance. Plus I can work on them. I would be lost if I had a BMW.
@@craigthescott5074 Yeah, indeed, however I will say on value, a used 4-series, they're pretty cheap - and at least in Florida, Corvette's have been keeping their value way more than in the past. But the BMW is a luxury coupe, the higher and more upright driving position is the biggest thing I don't like about it - unless I have to drive in the city. The Corvette's are so low, they can be difficult to drive when everyone else is in a giant SUV (as I'm sure you know). On the track, certainly the Corvette is the pick without question - while the BMW handles amazing for its size, it's still a pretty big luxury car. In the hands of a pro-driver it's not as big of a deal on the lap times, but actually driving them, the Corvette, in a track environment is just more fun to drive. As for working on them - I'm clueless on both, but certainly a Corvette would be easier to get parts for and should be cheaper to deal with. But I really never had any issues with any of them, thankfully, so I haven't had to worry about that aspect.
@@craigthescott5074 Look outside of America and you'll see that nobody drives a Corvette because it's unpopular and why would you even care about cost for performance? Hardly any of the people who buy such cars actually race them.
@@Alexander-so3zv I would disagree even if you don’t race your car, a super car or sports car is about performance that’s why most people buy them. I’ve owned 8 Corvettes I still own 5 of them. I could buy a $300K Euro car but why. Cost is high, maintenance is ridiculous. I recently bought and built a 2007 Z06 with 30K miles. I put $7000 of upgrades in the engine and exhaust. The car has 700 plus HP and Is a supercar for $47,000. And it gets 21 mpg. You can’t even buy an entry level Porsche for that!!!

I mean, the fact that the Z07 is literally a single *hair* behind the damn near race car with number plates 992 GT3 RS on Willow Springs is a testament to how much the engineers at GM nailed their car. Hell, the Z07 was even a hair quicker than both the GT2 RS and GT3 RS at Magny Cours club circuit a few weeks ago, and was only a few tenths behind a Senna. Different year that the Senna was run, yes, but that’s still *mightily* impressive for an N/A track car. The 992 GT3 RS is a monster, and it’s quickly beginning to grow on me in every facet, but it’s amazing to see just how close the Z06 is to it on track, especially when many were claiming that the Vette would stand no chance against it. Wonderful video across the board.
The Z06 is way faster than the RS on the straight line that’s why the corvette is close. The power has a huge influence in laptime. Look, the 992 GT3RS has 2 times more downforce than the 991 GT2RS, a better chassis + better brakes but the GT2RS is still faster on the leaderboard because of more power. Anyway, the Z06 is still an impressive car !
That time around Magny Cours circuit is not comparable since it did not drive by the same driver with the same driver the GT2RS is hard to beat in any circuit. But it's still impressive, compare to 992 GT3 RS it has 152 hp it make up all the time it loss to the Porsche on the straight. It close but look at it closely, it's not. But hey the Porsche is twice as much as the Z06, such a bargain for a great track car.
@@huyaomanh9814 Agree with everything but the “close but not close statement”. Jason himself said that the Z07 was extremely close to the Porsche at the wrap up portion of the video, that it very nearly kept up with it in near freezing temperatures.
DOOOOOD! The edit on this episode is killer. I'm a filmmaker and I'm trying to figure out how I could shoot that. Great job you guys! Giving all other car shows a run for the money.
That Z06 is INSANE, but I'm really surprised with the BMW results, I already expected the GT3RS to beat the faster, but I wasn't expecting the Z06 to be that close in a very short course with curves with ZERO-G jumps and I wasn't expecting the M4 to be that faster in the middle of these cars that were born for tracks... Always amazing videos on that channel, I will be me in the near future in my Portuguese Lenguale.

Awesome editing and content.
This is the first real indef analysis I’ve gotten of the Willow Springs track, helps put into perspective just what it demands and how the best of the performance vehicle world have to tackle it
Very interesting battle - and props to Randy for making the cars come in laptimes so close. It is clear, however, that Randys abilities make the ZO6 and CSL look a bit deceptive. The people who buy these cars likely won't be able to push the cars as hard and avoid going off track. The porsche is much more mild-mannered and would be easier to drive on the limit.
We will get a chance to see a lesser driver lap GT3 RS at VIR with C&D next yr. Z06 has already set a time this yr. Could be a nail bitter because second half of track is technically where grips is favored over aero.

These videos are INCREDIBLE. I normally don't care about "expensive car goes fast" but you really hit it home with the high-end vfx, info, and humor. Also if you consider price, I'm pretty proud of the Corvette!
I feel like the corvette is probably a better street car as well , no ? More comforts and compliance etc and less full blown track special even if it is the track special C8 which don't matter for this test but still notable , I have no experience with either but I believe that is the case . One thing I know for sure is the Z is more streetable for grocery getting and GM makes pretty big concessions in design to make sure even the most hardcore car could be your only car and serve as a GT car as well as sports and track . The obvious consolation for Corvette fans butt pain over the loss, is the massive cost difference . Porsche wins as far as confidence and manners as RP states . I guess corvette can claim acceleration which many actual buyers covet even in a car built for turns but it should with the power difference. I would be fine with a non zo7 car for street which is what most buyers should get unless they do in fact track the car , base base C 8 Would be fine although wide body is nice which kinda means, for a lot of regular people who just want to have a cool acceleration tool the E ray is the stoplight street brawler BUT losing the note is a tough sell .

Pretty remarkable considering the Z06 is literally half the cost... If not even more than that.

The Porsche will be able to do this all day. With the reported quality and reliability issues of the new Z06, I’m thinking this car is going to be a headache in comparison. GM truly did make an American McLaren - both the good and the bad

Brilliant stuff once again Jason, Randy, and Hagerty. I really wish BMW got the R tires for the CSL.

I feel it’s a bit unfair of a comparison. The tread rating difference between the tires on the CSL and Chevy and Porsche is humongous. The tires alone could easily make a 2 second or more difference.
.6 seconds behind what is essentially a cup car for the streets is pretty remarkable. All of these cars are monsters.
Especially with that moment of underwhelming braking in the ZO6 right at turn 3.
Hagerty just keep getting better and better every single time, amazing!
The fact that the C8 Z06 is much less expensive than both of these cars is a win in itself. When the ZR1 comes out nothing will beat it for the money.

@@CalebDiT never heard that about them before
@@CalebDiTevery sports car is unsafe you better stick to a Prius
992 GT2RS is going to be wild
Porsche will reportedly cap off the current 992 generation of the 911 around 2026 with the return of the GT2 RS nameplate, this time with hybrid technology in tow
Wild,........but not as wild as the Mustang GTD.
i get SO EXCITED for when these videos are made! AWESOME Job Randy, and Jason!!
I was just passing by this video until I seen Randy Pobst was the driver. Thank You! I really enjoyed this comparison.
Even who it took me all of two episodes to realize their slo mo while Jason explains stuff is the cars really just moving at 2 mph as Jason walks around them, it still hits every time 😂
The amount of production you guys put into these videos is amazing. Keep up the great work!!!!
The amount of planning and editing that goes into making a video of this quality is mind blowing. Amazing content👏🏼👏🏼
I love how he explains the advantages in different parts of the track. This is such a better review of a track focused car than anything else out there
Magnificent editing to keep the drama and tension through the whole video. You guys really are in a league if One when it comes to your videography prowess. Thanks for the incredible content.
