    Preach girl! I found that out over the summer. My frydek had only 2 leaves and I became frustrated and placed it outside on my covered porch with 14 hours of indirect very bright light and it hasn't stop growing yet. Its 10 leaves and counting.

    I have a Polly. In March I had 5 leaves and all of a sudden all of the leaves began to droop, yellow, then died. I kept caring for it until April and then sent it outside to play and it began growing back. Its been slow but I now have one leaf, one peaking out, and two more moving up the stems, yay!!! So happy for her. I really didn't want to disturb her. I have awesome indoor light so far she doesn't seem to have missed a beat.

    Nice information! I went back and viewed this older video about Alocasias. I agree with you about them not really existing as house plants with moist soil. I had two and lost one to root rot keeping it moist. Now I simply water it and let it dry out and then water again. The remaining plant is thriving with big leaves....:)

    • @RootingMindfully
      @RootingMindfully  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I thought about keeping it moist but that seemed like a sure fire way to kill the plant off lol I am glad yours is growing well now.

    Omg I needed this video. Thank you so much! I have same plants and one leaf comes out and another o e dies on all of them. I use a meter and dont over water.
    Can I use fertilizer in the fall and winter? I have them in a south window with a shade. They're about 2' away. Think I should give more sun? I just got a humidifier too so I'm going to turn that on. Again thanks for super information.

    • @RootingMindfully
      @RootingMindfully  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have the shade on the window and they are 2 feet away, they are probably not getting enough light. Try pulling the shade up, but keep them where they are. And only fertilize when there is active growth.I hope that helps.

    Ive struggled with my black velvet alocasia. I have it under a grow light, have it next to an humidifier and feed it with superthrive each watering but it has only put out two new leaves since I acquired it in May. I have occasionally used a fish emulsion but not often because the smell of the fish emulsion drives my dog nuts 😂

    • @RootingMindfully
      @RootingMindfully  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      How close is the growlight? I wouldn’t use the super thrive to feed it. Super thrive isn’t a fertilizer. It’s just a vitamin that you would give a plant to make a transition easier or to help it grow roots if your propagating. And yes fish emulsion is a critter attractor lol

    • @sherrykumar2883
      @sherrykumar2883 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RootingMindfully Thank you! I did not realize that Superthrive is not fertilizer 👀 I’ll definitely stick to the fish emulsion from now on! I have it just a few inches from my grow lights so it must be that the little guy is simply hungry.
