    Great demo! I appreciate you walking through all the features and giving us a variety of sounds. I just ordered the 2x10. I really like the power scaling feature, this thing seems like it'd be able to keep up with a drum kit and still hang at living room volumes.

      I think you’ll be very happy. It can go low enough for living room practice, but still retain a punchy tone something that many amps lack when you turn them down super far.

    Thanks for more detailed explanation of some of the features. From Boss, green, red, and yellow isn’t very specific! Anyway…I just picked one up (110) and I can’t seem to get a pure clean tone. There always seems to be some slight grit or distortion no matter the settings. Do you feel the same? Is there a way to dial it out completely? Might just be the color of the amp so to say.

    • @longandmcquade
      @longandmcquade  ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't need a mic going into a USB audio interface with the BOSS Katana Bass. You can plug the amp straight into a computer and use it as the USB audio interface itself. If you really want to mic it up, we'd recommend a large diaphragm dynamic microphone that can handle high SPL. Something like a Shure Beta52, AKG D112, Sennheiser MD-421, ElectroVoice RE-20, etc.

      @longandmcquade  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@funkadelk The sound will be different when micing up the amp versus going DI or using the amp as an audio interface. The microphone you choose, plus how you position it, plus the room its in, will all change how the amp sounds when recorded. Boss Tone Studio is not compatible with Windows 7 or 8. Windows 7 is a 14 year old operating system, and Windows 8 is 11 years old. To get the most out of your amp and use Boss Tone Studio, or any recent musical equipment requiring a computer, we'd recommend you update your operating system to Windows 10 or 11, which are free as long as your computer is compatible. This is not only to be able to use your Katana Bass to its fullest, but also general security of your computer. Both Windows 7 and 8 have reached their end of support which means they will no longer receive security updates.

    Hey.... A Ibanez Sabre bass.... Don't see those to often. Besides that: why do so many manufacturers only put the all out functionality in their upper range products? Leaving the lower tier stuff lacking in desireability and functionality. I always find that odd.... When u have a great pre section why don't put it in the whole amp range and let customers decide what kind of power amp specs they need and want. Sadly the reason is money. Gotta say, Roland had the bass rx cube which was packed with features. I always loved that little unit, when i walk into a Store i always keep an eye out for that thing. Now the Boss katana bass seems to land in that ballpark of small amps with big features. I think Boss just upped the game for all manufacturers and that's a good thing!

    • @USSLIBERTYREMEMBERER
      @USSLIBERTYREMEMBERER 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      From a manufacturer’s (I make furniture, not amps lol) standpoint: Class D power amps are cheaper to buy the implementation rights for than equally reliable AB power amps are to design, that’s pretty much all the reasoning there is. The guitar Katana probably gave boss some marketing data suggesting there are people willing to compromise on weight and price in exchange for *perceived* tonality and amp responsiveness. These look way beyond awesome but are a spot too heavy for me, 55 pounds for 150 watts is crazy in 2022

    • @themaschi
      @themaschi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@USSLIBERTYREMEMBERER thanks for making the money argument for me. But regarding the functionality of amps(which was the main point of my statement) u missed the mark quiet a bit. It was not about what kind of design the amp has but rather why low wattage amps are usually les speced in regards to pre amp section. The hughes kettner tubemeister would be a great example of that. The low wattage models have les preamp options than the higher wattage models. That to me is wrong. Again, it basically boils down to money.

    • @LeadByExample2911
      @LeadByExample2911 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@USSLIBERTYREMEMBERERAll wattages are not created equal tho. Take the Ampeg SVT head. 300 watts but all tube, and they’re used for stadium gigs. Then take a 900 watt Markbass head I had, class D, and it’s not even comparable. Granted, these aren’t tube amps, but being class ab I can tell you I played the 110 at my local music shop and it was stellar! Super loud while still being very fat and punchy sounding. I’ve never played a 110 that sounded even fractionally as good.
      P.s. I don’t mean to come off as sounding like you don’t understand the different classifications of amps, but there are many that will read this comment that don’t. I hear the argument all the time- only 160 watts?!! Blah blah etc

    • @DannyUnderwood
      @DannyUnderwood 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These amps are using a Class A/B designs, which measured at a 5x ratio to Class D amps. So a 160 watt Class A/B amp (Katana) is equivalent to 800 watts Class D, which is very common to other manufacturers. Not to mention Class A/B sounds much better and punchier.

    • @daniellarson3068
      @daniellarson3068 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DannyUnderwood What does it mean to be measured at a 5X ratio? It just seems like if you have the same voltage to the speaker, you should get the same loudness. Does class A/B put higher voltage / more current to the speakers?

    • @DannyUnderwood
      @DannyUnderwood 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@daniellarson3068 it’s the same equivalency of tube amp wattage. A 20 watt tube amp will have a higher perceived volume than a 100 watt class D at 1/5 of the wattage. I’m not quite sure the science there, but it’s the same concept. A class A/B amp is less efficient technically, but the push pull of the design works a lot different compared to a class D amp, which equates to better dynamics as well.

    • @skeeter197140
      @skeeter197140 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DannyUnderwood I did not know this. The demo did not address this. And usually an amp with built-in effects, and bells and whistles seem to have lower power for practicing. It just to me didn't seem like a stage-worthy piece of gear. But 800 watt equivalent is definitely stage-worthy.

    I'm going to disagree on something. This is not a simple amp. If anyone wants to call it simple they have to admit that it's 'simple' after learning a whole lot of stuff which, to me, is the definition of 'complicated'. I played it in the store and it sounds great. I like the compressor being built in. I have a katana 100 guitar amp and it's great, too. Put the extensive adjustability, versatility , and customisation potential are overwhelming, like a 90-room house.

  • @barrydouglas6276
    @barrydouglas6276 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am going against the flow here so please regard this as an individual subjective opinion. I like the clean sound but am not fond of the distortion. The punchy claim would better be verified with a comparison to, for example, a Hartke rig similarly recorded. And obviously the cube! Aside from overdriving tubes I would suggest the blues driver pedal for grit. For these reasons I am not sold on this sales pitch.

    • @DannyUnderwood
      @DannyUnderwood 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I would definitely recommend trying one in person, the punchy quality is really something to be felt rather than heard. A big part of the story of these amps is that dynamic feel from a class A/B power amp. So many bass amps these days are maximizing wattage on paper with class D amplification, which sacrifices tone and feel.
      I may not be the best choice for dialing in a great distorted bass tone, as I am a knuckle dragging guitar player! I love the suggestion of the Blues Driver, it is my favorite guitar distortion device, but have ignorantly never tried it on bass!
      Thank you for watching!
