@@courregeaaron947You can dig into why you procrastinate, whether a habit that distracts you or developing emotional skills at tolerating discomfort (like DBT). It might also be worth considering if you might have ADHD if you have other symptoms. That can open up different tools and ways of understanding your mind, and it’s true that for some people with adhd medication is needed to overcome procrastination. Therapists can also help you work through procrastination problems and if they stem from mistaken beliefs or baggage from childhood.
My stepfather was a nuero-surgeon who wasn't merely a surgeon. But the Cheif Surgeon of Nuero-Srugery residency at Baptist Towers in Little Rock, AR. He was a strident. A man who was highly competent, severe, kind, dangerous, and wholly human. He gave me an Eastern Press copy of The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius in my teenage years. With the hope, it would help furnish me with some much needed temperance and perspective. It would be difficult to say we were close. But, now that he is gone, I hold him in such high esteem that it is close to reverence❤
The one I am working on is stop being a mental slave to an addiction. My word for 2025 is COURAGE! Thank you Ryan this may be the most helpful post for me of all…
I start my mornings listening to your videos. They brighten up my days and give energy and enthusiasm, especially when I have to do an annoying job. Thanks for making such wonderful contributions.
Debate no more what a good man is and just be one. "Good" will be my word for 2025. Good husband, good father, good grandfather, good worker, good community member, good steward of my body, good stoic.
Definitely works. I've been struggling for years then started with 2 min, 5 min increments of good habits and have changed my life for the better. Consistency has an accumulative effect. All the best
Consistency is definitely a good word to live by. Both discipline and consistency is something I have struggled with so I’m going to cheat and choose both 😊
I found this refreshingly simple to apply: Transform yourself by recommitting to your principles. Not through complex plans or systems, but through showing up daily for what matters most to you. Pick one foundational practice and start today. For me, it was FINALLY committing to 5k morning walks after years of rolling my eyes at the advice. I can't believe how transformative it's been in all other areas of my life.
Incredible insights! The idea of rediscovering our beliefs and recommitting to philosophy resonates deeply. Marcus Aurelius reminds us that transformation is always within reach-what a powerful message to kickstart the new year! Let’s embrace these Stoic challenges and become the best versions of ourselves. Who’s ready to start fresh and strive for greatness?
I was fretting, struggling to pinpoint a single word for my year. Then, the next point was made; do it now. Thank you for my so earnestly needed word for my upcoming year; now
Wow, this video is packed with actionable wisdom and timeless Stoic principles! From embracing challenges to focusing on what truly matters, every point inspires growth and resilience. Perfect motivation to start the new year strong-thank you for sharing these insights!
Senaca liked to quote Epicurus in saying ‘Procrastination is what all fools have in common.’ Words on marble! Thank you Ryan for all the learning you share❤
Thanks. Wasn't going to comment, but 2 caught me off guard, so true. I am so grateful to be able to be of service, but I have like the most serious problem with asking for anything...especially in the worst of times. Thanks, I've heard it in your words before, but asking for help isn't taking or not virtuous, it feels selfish and for lack of better word...complaining and also pressuring them if they really need to say no...This time I get it. Ask for the right help, from the right person, at the right time (which probably feels like when you can't), with courage. That's virtuous. Thx
loved all the Sydney clips! i missed your talk in Sydney town hall but its nice to see you enjoying our country! long time watcher but this is my first comment, i'd love to see your insight on how to follow Stoicism when you have a mental illness such as ADHD or autism (I have both and find it makes things more complicated)
I respectfully disagree on the reading section. Every book has knowledge to impart. Sticking to one type of work (or only "difficult" works by philosophers) only limits your viewpoint. I get as much out of reading Dickens (the human condition) as I do reading the latest popular history of the Civil War (we are still affected by its ramifications today) or a whodunit by Agatha Christie (thinking outside the box).

If you are at your end but have not yet reached your goal asking for help is obvious next step in the journey to the finish line.
Thank you for reminding us about this Wisdom.
I appreciate these great reminders Ryan
