I am 50 and I realised that I don’t care about legacy. I spent my whole 47yrs trying to placate and please others and not rocking anyone boat but at the end of the day people don’t really care much because you can never ever please everyone. The best thing to do is to live your life true to yourself and then you will never be disappointed. I am 50 and retired and living my best life being a nomad.

...im not married and don't have kids, so im not bothered.

What is more depressing is that in most Western countries, you spend 40+ years working 5-6 days a week, only to have the Government take 60-70% of you income in the form of taxes, fees etc. while inflating the remaining 30% away due to the impact of borrowing on the money supply and just plain printing money to fund budget deficits. Sad part is, most of the money is used to create an army of Government agencies to make your life more difficult and restrictive.
It took me a while to understand that....now I work enough to fund my lifestyle in my own business. I don't need a Mercedes or Rolex to be happy, a Mazda or Casio works fine. I now spend more time in nature, traveling, working my classic car and riding my motorcycle.

Oh for god's sake, stop whining about paying taxes! You have opportunities to get an education, food, housing, and use roads and bridges because of 'the government.' The government responds to pandemics, wars, and natural disasters so that you can continue to criticize. Of course, all decisions are far from perfect. that is what democracy is. Underrated video. I'm 30 and just had a kid, bought a beautiful home and was able to afford my dream car... had to sacrifice my childhood, because I thought this is what makes me truly happy... realized that money DOES solve problems, but it doesn't make one happy. Went down to my true self, understood concepts about consciousness, what life is really about and learnt more about god... today, I can tell that you're 100% spot on. Everything goes back to being present, being mindful and balance EVERYTHING in life, including the distractions, the fun, the happiness, the sadness, the tear, the sweat, the laughter... you have to balance everything, including how much you're conscious and unconcsious throughout.. ultimately, this will help you to master your mind, which brings true happiness as EVERYTHING makes click now... you understand literally everything, and everyone. Today, I'm not even mad on my worst enemy or if someone insults me... it's because I developed a deep understanding throughout the adversities i faced in my life. These 80 years are just a temporary phase, use it wisely and master your mind, defeat your ego, become happy, be happy, spread happiness...

Whether rightly or wrongly, I've come to sense that things enter into and pass out of our lives for a reason. That may sound a bit ethereal, but I've tried to open myself up to that possibility, and I try to be aware of what I perceive to be are signals that indicate incoming or outgoing change. The ability to be self-aware is huge in this, and I think it ties in with the message in this video. Like another comment here, I've shamefully and glibly taken much of the gift of life for granted. I've had bumps in life like everyone else, but as I'm about to turn 67 this year, I'm grateful and actually stunned by my incredible good fortune when I stop to assess the moment I'm in. I'm not rich, but I'm not poor. I'm not sick, but I'm not perfectly healthy. I'm not stupid, but I'm not as smart as I wish I was. I'm acutely aware of my mortality now, and that cloud on my horizon approaches ever faster. That being the case, ive decided to make one last attempt to create a business out of thin air based on something i think i have the skills to potentially succeed at. If i succeed at this then I'll be astonished, but I will also grade failure as a success because i know that i will have at least tried versus letting the last of my energies and abilities grow fallow in the final chapter of my life. Regret for sometuing jot tried would be unbearable to me. These changes are hard on my family because I'm upsetting everyone's comfort, but in a strange outcome I think I see them being subconsciously inspired to make changes in their own lives. I'll take the blame for forcing this change on my family, but I hope and dream it benefits them as well in some way. Change is often ugly, but it can manifest in better outcomes ultimately. Thank you for this inspiring video.

I am 63 years old. My wife of 30 years passed away two years ago, even though she was a total alcoholic I think that shortened her life by many years. One of the many things that I wish she had should have done was get outside more less TVand put down the wine bottle. That was 2 1/2 years ago when she passed now I have a girlfriend I’m getting ready to get married and she loves being outside. She loves camping. She loves hiking. I think I met her for a reason. As a handyman, I’ve had 1400 customers and I was constantly working, so I think it’s time to hang up the toolbelt permanently.

Im just about to turn 38 and starting to realise that the battle has always been in the mind. Anxiety for the future and depression from the past. I now see that I am not this body or mind. I am the awareness behind it all - the ever present consciousness that we all are. We cannot live in the past and we cannot live in the future - all we truely have is the now. I’m only good for service to others. I’ve never felt loved or wanted. No matter how much I succeed, no one claps. No matter how loving or of service I am, no one reciprocates. People say kind things and how important I am, but their words and actions don’t match. I have no one to go to. Not family, not the man I married, not friends. I’m surrounded by people and they don’t see me. I have been direct and honest about how I feel, no one cares. I get gaslit or ignored. Aiming to "leave a legacy" seems to be associated with unnecessary pressure. By living an authentic life that truly resonates with us and that is aligned with who we Truly are, is the best way to spend our time here wisely. Interestingly enough, people will naturally resonate and gravitate to authentic people without giving much priority on "leaving a legacy", it becomes a natural by-product.

@@simonalexandero Thanks, but I feel that my 'insights' simply constitute common sense even though I can appreciate how the terms in which I've been thinking (since elementary school) aren't so common at all. Have you ever tried engaging certain (religion-hijacked) groups of people in a discussion about Self-alignment? All I ever elicited from them were blank stares or expressions of fear or assurances of understanding me whilst simultaneously blatantly contradicting themselves! It's both funny & sad. But we can deduce why the caged bird sings.....can't we?
In university (Sociology class), I met 'mature' students (45+) who expressed disappointment, even anger, when they were offered an array of essay topics & were instructed to choose one. One woman was especially chagrined. I was then 22, genuinely shocked for the 1st & only time in my life. I suddenly realized that some (or most) people experience the freedom of choice AS the burden of choice. They want to be told what to do, to think, to believe. I really didn't know, until then, that such peeps existed! (I was penalized by the prof for selecting a topic that wasn't even on the list but I subsequently settled it with the dean).
But no matter, all roads in life ultimately lead Home to one's true Self in every context, sooner or later.

When I think back to my happiest moments, it’s always been them. I struggle so much to live in the present moment because I’m constantly weighed down by my fears for the future. I’m inadvertently perpetuating a self-fulfilling by letting myself believe that who I am now is all I’ll ever be for the rest of my life, even when I know that isn’t true. I’ve missed so many opportunities in the past because of my mindset and inaction, but I realize that I’m still young and nothing in my life can change if I don’t try for myself.

To the outside I am a loser and an under-achiever and probably look selfish, but I know the truth of my struggles, how far I have come and that I am a good, decent person inside. @@SyriusOLshdepression will for do it. It will make you forget what day it is and before you know it a whole year would have passed by. For most people depression is the culprit. But also keep in mind that “wasted time” looks very different for each person. Some may feel that if they worked too much and didn’t get to spend time with family that they wasted time, were as others may feel the same about not traveling much, or experiencing different things. For me my family has sucked so much of my time away that my career goals had been put to the side, and I mentally suffered greatly for that. It prevented me from being able to meet dynamic business and financial goals that would have changed not just my life, but my family’s life as a whole. My grandmother, uncle, and 6yo old niece would still be here if I could have been financially stable to help them.
Im now in my early 30s and 10yrs married and we still don’t have kids (😢) and I’m trying to recover everyday from the emotional and psychological trauma I have endured over these last 8yrs. The pandemic didn’t help at all (it just sucked away 3yrs like it was nothing) It’s hard but very doable, but it takes time.
Im personally in a much better head space now, because I decided in 2021 that I’m no longer going to care about anyone else anymore until I can take care of myself and what I want in life.
