the Jeff loomis nevermore-era is incredibly underated but all we know that his work and tribute to metal technique will never be forgotten.
Well said!
DUDE! Be careful how you say things. I just learned about Jeff and the words you chose made it sound like he passed :)
Absolute legend my dudes
You mean will nevermore be forgotten.
You mean, will nevermore be forgotten.
i dont play guitar , i dont know dick all about guitars, but i bet this guy is way better than anyone posting in here
@cheesypeanuts. Indeed!
Wait, you should hear Jeff play today!!! 10x better
For sure
Yea there's a reason Jeff Loomis is in my top 5 of all time lol.
Is the best in the world
best 360p video ever!
+Geronimo Santa Cruz LOL
It was just like back in 2009 when yo mama decided she didn't want to progress into the 21st (or even 20th) century to use latex condoms and ended up conceiving you.
I'll guess we'll thankfully be spared whether or not yo papa had "All that equipment."
;)

Rosli Saidi shut the fuck up
How we had to suffer when TH-cam first launched.
He's fantastic because besides his incredible technical ability, he has such a great melodic sense which makes it all sound so good!
He has absolutely no sense in melody. He just picks strings on frets. The opposite example is Michael Amott, who is one of the best composers with best sense of melody
@@cherepashkaRafaelHave you ever listened to Nevermore? Loomis has an amazing melodic ear.
@@AHighlander , yes, I have heard this band. Several songs. But none of them have impressed me
02:47 more than 10 years have passed, but this part is still one of my fave neoclassical licks ever
@Decaying Corpse oh yeah bro
Same!
@@doom-mantia yaaaaa
holy fuckin shit!! i'm in exactly the same boat just coming back now! happy shredding!
the river dragon has come sound...
What I like About Loomis is no matter what scale he's working with, in a blind test you could pick him out by his phrasing and mean articulation.
He's using his hair for palm muting.
True...
That's hair muting for you.
I knew he was cheating... that's how!!!
He's the best guitarist in the best metal band too and I bet your dumbass didn't know that!
Richard warren Hey. Shut the fuck up
knew Jeff irI throughout middIe schooI and high schooI he was pIaying MaImsteen in sixth grade, anything eddie v, in sixth grade - with ease.
Still talk to him at all?
@@LifeHawkeye I do not. It's a lot of fun to have seen him over the years achieve what he has. Best part is hearing or reading how soooo many people appreciate him, his humble demeanor is Jeff. That's really cool. He is the same kid I knew in middle school, playing in my mind, just as great then as he is now. Never forget his white Jackson and him shredding it like a piece of taffy in his hands - remarkable abilities. One more thing - no one of any age at that time in that region was even remotely close to achieving on guitar what he was doing. He probably knew that because when he graduated in HS he was off to Seattle, he knew what was up for many many years before that.
@@DS-ju2sq That is so cool man, I really appreciate your insight. That must be surreal to have known someone that has gotten so widely known. I can’t really say I know anyone that has ever had that level of success. I was a lot like him through middle and high school too. Playing my guitar for hours upon hours believing one day I was going to be doing it for a living and becoming an amazing guitarist. I definitely didn’t turn out like Jeff lol. I did play guitar for a living for a short time and whereas I have gotten really good after all these years, I am nowhere near Jeff’s level of ability. Probably not in another lifetime could I get to where he’s at lol. He does seem really humble though. Thanks for your reply!
@@LifeHawkeye It's not surreal as much as I'm happy that people, a lot of people, like yourself get to know who he is. Also, I don't know everything about Jeff that would be foolish to say. The thing I want to believe never changed is him being humble, never heard him talk shit about people or be mean spirited toward anyone in middle school or highschool (which is pretty amazing), and that he was inclusive, before 'inclusivity' became a thing in American culture. I hope he gets all the accolades imaginable world-wide and that he continues to create music and inspire.
BTW (CRAP) I can't remember if it was Kramer or Jackson anymore... gettin old lol.
@@DS-ju2sq He just sat on his ass and practiced and enjoyed practicing. You act like no one can achieve his skill. Such nonsense. Any human can achieve anything with hard work. It's just muscle memory. It's like walking. The more you do it the more it becomes part of you. Do you think about walking? No. You just do it because your brain has made the connection for you when you where a child. But what's most important is that Jeff has a good practice approach. He doesn't just noodle shit all day long he actually sets goals and wants to achieve them. Your HS buddies just wanted to noodle. He didn't.
I love his pedal setup. He just sits there with a tube screamer just kinda sitting off in the distance.
After 5 years coming back to this video is just Holy fucking shit. Can't even imagine how other respectable players and fans that have been listening to this guy more then 10 even 20 years feel If I feel amazing listening to him for only 5 years.
+MrGuitarTormentor Think how good he is now. He's probably learnt more in those 5 years than I have in 20 years.
Hahahaha, well I gues he even sleeps with his guitar. Well we just need to practice 6 hours a day to be good to the point he was in his 16. :')
Melodic minor +harmonic minor unusual accending and descending+ arpeggios excellence and awesome complexity+tapping sophistication+ perfect clarity+ lightning speed+ tremendous musicallity and viol3nce+ STOP IT..I'M CRYING....😭😭😭😭
This reminds me what a rhythm player i am and always will be
Yeah... I think i'm gonna play bass, instead (no offense for bass players).
metalheadhobo1 You can learn soloing. It can be frustrating but it's really rewarding. Even if you don't solo all over the place (gets boring) it's nice to be able to do.
Thrashmetalkicksass No thanks. We deal with enough condescension from ignorant, arrogant musicians as it is, without getting infected by someone who doesn't at least have the gumption to stick at his own instrument. I'm against musical division, but to consider learning a different instrument some kind of "skill transgression" IS an insult, no matter what you caveat it with.
WTF?? You serious, man? It was a joke, never heard about jokes? They're something that one says in order to make others laugh. "Condescension", "gumption", "caveat"?? You wrote a fucking essay to answer a joke. You stupid?
Alex Khouri becoming an elite bass player is harder (i would think) than becoming an elite guitar player.
He killed it. Nailed every note, a true master.
So much of Jason Becker and Marty Friedman in this that's awesome !!
+Fearskill Jeff is really good but this song sounds stolen from "Drago's Kiss" LP by Marty Friedman.... a lot of Marty's unique style... too much ;)
+Luigi Sari Yes. And 20 years late!!! Anyway I love him.
exactly!
He told to Marty to enter in Megadeth actually....maybe if he didnt say that...there's not Megadeth
Loomis and Broderick should be Cacophony II
2020 and this is still awesome and always will be 👌
Seeing Nevermore live and watching Jeff shred 12 inches from my face while on the rail is a memory I'll never forget. He was really engaging with the audience. RIP Warrel.
A lot of guitarists can play fast, but he has found his own unique style, and has developed it in high detail.
O.k., I got the first note........what was the second one ??
Quentin James 👊👍
Most likely it's an E
no doubt
WORK YOUR GUITAR, and stop crying.
after 10 years, i finally got the 3rd note!
The fact that he can play this stuff without having to think is jaw dropping. I can't get anywhere close to this without starting slow and working my way up.
This guy makes rhythm guitar seem like shred. I give up
Loomis' rhythms are far beyond intermediate.
Rohann van Rensburg Incorrect.
PS: What do you consider "advanced" when it comes to rhythm? You'd better not say "Rings of Saturn" or some such nonsense.
Rohann van Rensburg Rings of Saturn
Bryan Arzate 10/10
Still modern-sounding after all these years. His chops are a great combo of attack and finesse...and always Heavy🔥
THE THING ABOUT JEFF LOOMIS'S LEAD PLAYING IS AS HARD HIS SHREDDING IS HIS BENDING AND VIBRATO TECHNIQUE ARE EQUALLY HARD
Where did you come from? Not earth my friend not earth. lol
this is one of the best guitar videos ever recorded and it is begging for a 2021 HD version
The only guy that makes me even consider a seven string is Jeff.
what about Rings Of Saturn's, All Shall Perish's or Chevelle's guitarists? Steve Vai, the maker of the 7string (collab with Ibanez)?????
morbid angel? korn?
Jeff Loomis
TRUE
Lorenzo Rico-Juarez KoRn's entire catalogue can be played within 5 months of learning to play guitar.
I see Jeff Loomis' name and I automatically assume my face is about to be melted off.
'Incredible performance' is an understatement!
My favorite of Jeff's is Miles of Machines. Brilliant!!!!!!
amazing performance for a practice session
I see what you did there... ;)
I'm loving this guy more and more every day i really love his use of harmonic minor and phrygian and every time i listen to him i want to play guitar that's awesome.
Almost ten years ago, kids made bad comments on my p.c..... and applogize for that , you are a marvellous guitarist!
Even if you're one of these morons who say he has no feeling or emotion or blah blah....you have to admit that this is fucking amazing just to fucking watch. I mean shit, the guy is incredible....truly fucking amazing.
I can only dream of playing like this...dude is unreal
Plays more notes than you ever will in one song than your whole musical career.
exited if he will bring 7 strings to arch enemy :D
YES, YES, YES!
I remember I listened Zero Phase Unit with Anthems of Rebellion a huge while ago. Didn't remember that the record were so old lol.. It was a fine record, even when I'm not too fan of 'shred' albums.
They might try something. At least i hope so.
Chris was also wasted there.Check out the new armageddon work.Great guitar work..Michael Ammott needs to up his game however. They've been playing the same shit for a decade
Gareth, 7 strings are tuned to B as the top standardly.
Just think, guys like loomis were this good wayyyy before any of this social media clout shit. This is the video that put me down the Loomis rabbit hole and fell inlove with Nevermore. 4+ plus years later they are still my favorite band.
I confess I keep watching the video to see if he catches his hair in the strings...
It sounds like you haven't got a lot going for you. If adopting your receding hairline and pot belly offered an advantage, then maybe you would like to explain why Loomis comes off sounding like a virtuoso and you come off sounding like a troll? This might be explained even more simply as an example of sour grapes.
+gary morrison Why so mad? Fuck off idiot
One's hair doesn't get caught in the strings as much as it mutes them. It can be really annoying if it's too long.
So the issue of long hair is really a gender issue for you? The macho identity you are stuck with and probably the anger and tendency to bully that go along with it. Authoritarians generally do not choose to pursue music as a career and if they do are not rarely successful at an artistic level. Having shorter hair will give you no more advantage in this business, than being angry about other peoples hair..
He's in the best metal band in the world, A.E. , he reached the top!. who cares what a loser says!.
When i learn to play guitar, this will be my warm up routine before practice.
WE'RE NOT WORTHY...!!
WE'RE NOT WORTHY...!!!
Jeff is fantastic and deserves every accolade he receives ,conquering dystopia is brilliant.
He is a brilliant, brilliant addition to Arch Enemy. So big it might be actually enough for people to stop noticing that Angela is no longer singing.
You may indeed have a point, since this talent deserves to be heard in his own band, but then again I believe the whole band is very skilled technically and musically, and that's why it's probably going to be an excellent match. Hopefully, at least!
Well, we agree that we disagree completely about what you wrote on the band.
Attention will never be divided democratically in any artistic field. It is given after an interaction of many factors which also involve how memorable the work of art is, and how much it "tingles" and excites specific feelings, tastes and preferences. As far as the old albums of Arch Enemy (I haven't listened to their latest), I consider them excellent: very well composed, played, mixed and produced. Anything but average. And whether they are made to sell or not has a dramatically smaller impact than what's traditionally been happening at other popular music styles for decades.
What I mean is that the "too commercial" argument can sometimes work and sometimes not. The more extreme the music style, the smaller commercial niche it has and the less relevant this argument becomes. Plus, it has the potential to prevent you from listening to music that's worth listening to.
I'm going to have to trust you on their latest developments as a band, but like I said the big, famous bands of every genre were always getting the most attention. It's basically the dictionary definition of "famous", and that's how it works, fortunately or unfortunately. Every band has to climb up the ladder through this way, and prove themselves... Judging whether they really deserve that attention is very subjective, and the only partly objective way of looking at it is decades later when history evaluates their legacy and impact.
I want to see John Petrucci, Jeff Loomis, and Tosin Abassi shred-off... that would blow my minddd......
Here you go, Jeff Loomis is missing but check it out!

Jeff Loomis and marty friedman is almost same in melidic sounds and giving so smooth diminished lead patter.
This man and marty are known for this kind of sound licks.
Truly amazing.
RESPECT....
If i would have heard this 20 years ago, i would have gone mad. ( and Malmsteen too) Unbelievable player. Together with Keith Merrow it's the perfect combination.
Technical level - *inconceivable +1*
I love how no matter who the guitarist is, these videos will have some internet tool nitpicking and bashing in a really condescending way. There's critique and opinion, and there's asinine, ignorant slamming.
JackobMan it’s usually just the jealousy, and knowing they may work their ass off for their whole lives and not even be 1/10th a success as Jeff.
@@Metalwhore89 people like those should be ignored.
Jeff Loomis is a god among mortals
Im a guitar player and if I could play half of what jeff can do i would be happy. It took me like a month straight to learn i voyager and the solo. But besides that I can't do jeffs solos lol! But him being such a nice guy and just a incredible musician. Makes it aww inspiring. Makes me wanna be a better player. These internet trolls are dipshits and are jealous. And hide. Behind there phones. When in reality there pussies. And would never say anything to your face.
@Nickhead87 I don't care if someone doesent have the same opinion as me. That's totally fine. I care when they think there opinion is truth. My origional comment was praising how incredible jeff was. And how it took me a little over a month to learn I voyager. And how people don't have balls to say shit to your face. And hide behind a phone to say whatever they want. Like someone could say I can play better than Jeff. But they have no experience at all and not even a musician. That's what i have a problem with.
2021 and im keep watching this masterpiece
wtf why is this the first time i'm seeing this guy
maybe youve never hear about Nevermore band

Jhon Galegru WTF you lucky guy! I have never tried a seven string before. And I got a lot of negative comments from everyone of my friends who have tried one lol. How do you feel about 7 strings?
DemiUrge _ i have barely seen anyone using the seventh string while shredding , people mostly use them for riffing or power chords like stuff, i would love to own a seven string though
Hmm, true. I wonder if anyone has done 7 string sweeps before. Only heard of 5 string sweeps or below haha

Very beautiful.

he´s a monster!
I'm not a guitarist but he sounds pretty frinkn good to me. I play harmonica, that counts right? And I love Nevermore and the great Dane!

Loomis is the new Lead guitarist for Megadeth Chris quit for unknown reasons
even if this were true, no one quits megadeth for unknown reasons. everyone knows why people quit megadeth.
Broderick said: “It is with great reluctance that I announce my departure from Megadeth to pursue my own musical direction. I want all of you to know how much I appreciate the amount that you, the fans, have accepted and respected me. I wish Dave and everyone in Megadeth all the best. I am working on a few things of my own, and hope that when they come out, you’ll all dig it.” that's why he left :/
Jeff Loomis does not suit Megadeth neither did Chris Broderick...
Jeff Loomis is the new Arch Enemy guitarrist.
alexiex Nope, he's the new Megadeth guitarist.
14 years later...still watching
Sounds like cacophony of Marty Friedman and Jason Becker
Only just discovered Jeff Loomis. I’m a massive Death fan and his style reminds me a lot of Chuck Shuldiner (Jeff far better technically of course). Chuck had a great sense of melody which Jeff shares.
I've met this guy several times when seeing Nevermore he would strongly disagree with your statement. I told him something like that once and he said I wish I was as good as Chuck. Schindler mostly used a stock b.c rich w/o a tremolo that's what makes Chuck so hard to catch.
That's fine but can he play Smoke on the Water?
that song is impossible
Only the intro is tough, the solo is doable with a bit of practice.
John Doe what does that have to do with anything?
John Doe what does that have to do with anything?
what he is referring to is the fact that in a funny sense, that song is super slow and Jeff most of the time, if not, always, he plays faster with sweep picking melodies with a lot of technique, so probably if you ask Jeff to play that song, he will sarcastically laugh , hope you get the sarcastic sentence man. :)
Flamming planetary reentry with no parachute.
The bass drumming is your heartbeat.
Megadeth Influence. Awesome
Zero Order Phase is a mash-up of Dragon's Kiss & Perpetual Burn. Not only is it a mash-up, but also a tribute to Marty Friedman & Jason Becker. You are partially right with Megadeth.
Example 1/100:@3:00 is Becker's signature sweep.
Thought the same thing!
lol
he actually was close to join megadeth when jeef young left, but he was too young. Still the influence is here.
Simon LOZAC'H The unique influence is that dave mustaine can't sing a shit, so maybe is the reason that you are saying it.
Neoclassical style wins again !!!
Damn, I'd like to see this guy and Jason Richardson do a guitar shredding duel!
***** Yes!!!! Both are amazing guitar players. And then Christopher Storey jumps in with Miles Dimitri Baker!
Ben Weinberg your fucking stupid
886420nic how am I stupid?
Jordan Mandas what do you mean? that Loomis isn't as good as jason?
Jordan Mandas yeah, I know those :P he's mindblowing, but Jeff is a really good player too.
He literally gives me chills..... and I've seen him live.....
I assume you’ve also seen the sweat fling off his fingers as he’s playing?
This is a little more "thrash" than I personally like, but the guitar playing is outstanding!
I feel like I'm hearing the same thing over and over when I listen to Jeff Loomis
So don't listen to It
That's what I'm gonna do from now on
Yvan Cluet no one cares really
Yvan Cluet the music you listen to hahahaha
That's the big problem with a lot of shredding that wants to fit into a genre. Still badass though! I always like coming back to this stuff.
this reminds me of Megadeth so much...
Like what the riffs? because I don't see anything in the soloing that sounds anything like Megadeth.
What part?
DarthMuse Jeff Loomis is heavily inspired by Marty Friedman and Jason Becker
Sanberk Atalay I know but in my opinion he doesn't anything like those guys if you really listen to his music and scales, Jason Becker was never in Megadeth and only Friedman was, those guitarist that Megadeth have had all sound way different and weren't even making that technical music.
He was almost in Megadeth instead of Marty Friedman, true story told by Mr. Jeff Loomis himself.
IMO, there just isn't anyone better than Loomis. No one else can put my musical brain on the edge of it's seat, regardless of how many times I hear the composition.
See Dave Mustaine.. What a mistake choose Broderick instead of Loomis
Loomis would have been in megadeth in 1989 but he was not 18 so he didnt get the job. Gladly. Because marty got it.
Anyone hear Nevermore The river Dragon Has come at 4;10?
yup
amazing technique. But...I always find, after listening to guys like this, I need a dose of SRV for the "humanness."
yeah there is something more human about blues players
Jeff Loomis is not of this world.
Since this performance was posted I'm coming back here every week or so to watch this video again. I light two candles next to my monitor while I'm sacrificing as well.
Can't believe all the negativity in these comments... leave a link with your guitar playing that is 'so much better' than Loomis!! HMMMM... What? Can't do it? UHHH... DUHHH... Just pure, negative jealousy? Yea... that's what I thought.
Go listen to your Beiber, and Miley, and GO AWAY!!
Oh...wait, here comes the little yellow bus to pick you up!! You had BETTER Go now!! :p
Nobody can play better than Loomis period.
Llisten to his "Final product" or "Belive in nothing" - solo, which are much better than this one!
Maybe people are just expressing there opinions? Jeff is good, but I don't think he's good enough to think that anyone to oppose him are feeling 'just pure, negative jealousy'.
Error 404
Nate Hicks loads of people can, dude. Doesn’t mean Loomis isn’t great, but he’s not perfect.
This guy's playing sounds like an electric cello trapped in closet with a warped 45rpm paganini record and a broken vacuum cleaner.
Mate I agree with a lot of what you're saying, but you seem to of taken it upon yourself to comment on every EMG video slamming the artists. It's kind of odd. But yes, chug chug interspersed with shredding doesn't really do it for me either. Peace.
mercutio123100
Nope, all the links were showing up on the sidebar. I have in fact owned EMG pickups before too and I think the guitar pickups are terrible for recording. They record just awful. It just so happens that allot of musicians that I dislike also use them. Ironic?
*****
Well, for me there was always a certain distinctive 'sizzle' I could not get rid of when trying to record with them. No amount of anything could get rid of it and if you do, then the higher end dynamics of the guitar disappear or start to sound unnaturally 'machine-like'. So in the words of a famous and anonymous recording engineer, I'll just say this.. YOU CAN'T POLISH A TURD.
*****
Maybe all those people you're referring to had the same experience I did. Perhaps all of those guys "jumping on the bandwagon" means something then? I just outlined the problem above. It's an annoying distinctive sizzle on the top end and if you try to get rid of it, the dynamics disappear.
*****
Who the hell is Andy Sneap?
Jeff Loomis is an absolute beast he's one of the best out there.
0:56 look like Hetfield in 1985
Loomis is a technical virtuoso juggernaut but his note selection is kinda lousy, there is NO variation at all, it just impresses you for the first few minutes than once you realize he lacks melodic depth, it kinda wanes off.......I'm not bashing him, I'm in no position to comment against a pro because I'm a crappy guitar player myself, but It's just a matter of opinion here....
There are certain dynamics that I feel he really excels at, but what you are getting at is truly his only pitfall. And it's not that he doesn't have the ability, it just happens out of his own self-choice. His acoustic stuff has tons of variety along with the slower solos that he performed with Nevermore. But even in this song, there are several licks that are EXACTLY the same as certain passages in "The Godless Endeavor" (4:17), which upsets me because he is truly amazing and this is lazy songwriting I feel. Another thing: he has PERFECT bends, which seems to be harder and harder to find with some of these guitarist virtuosos hahaha.
The thing is, if you use a lot diminished arpeggios a lot in your soloing you'll eventually tire - up your listener fast...Loomis' phrasing almost sound like ''exercise runs'' most of the time....I'd rather listen to George Lynch play his melodic Dorian-Blues all day than listen to Loomis' 5 minutes of ear torture.
Loomis' soloing work is only 50% of the package. His rhythm playing is tight as hell, dark, tasteful and in many cases harder than the solos.
Sahil Londhe I actually think this performance is good but that's just my opinion lots of people are just jealous and like to criticize by saying it has no feeling clearly they don't understand.
Agree 100%. Nobody (except of guitarists) gives a f* about how great technician he is. The fact is that the melody is for one time listening, and then it erases from memory completely the same moment it stops. Kirk hasn't been that fast and technical, but he is a great composer and innovator. That's why his music is simply recognizable after 30 years, and will be listened for decades.
Incredible!! One of the best guitar players around the globe!!
Jeff is a guitar Dominator!
My favorite guitarist probadly of all times. His playing is like a dream come true a good one.
Physical definition of a guitar god

I seriously think this is an awesome track! it has both the super fast shredding parts, and at the same time it has slower parts, and jeff manages to fit them all together so well!
