Brings back memories. I had a 68 chevelle 396/375 bench seat 4 speed, 411 from the factory, triple 1010 tuxedo black w black vinyl roof. God I miss that car. Nothing like a big block.

Had a 68 SS 396 (fake) magazine car early 90s
Even with the wrong gear (super tall) that cammed up '96 would pull hard in every gear...never needed 5th .
I was impressed...its just like a bigger 383 sbc but that bore really lets it breathe

I really enjoy all of the videos that you have posted !
You mentioned that the Chevrolet has a turbo 350 transmission. I was hoping that you might give a little more info on the t-350. That's a lot of motor for a turbo 350 to handle as well as it does !
It must have some very robust parts in it ?

Mark, you are a true machinist with a passion for making power on a budget. No one has put this kind of work into videos to show the world that it’s possible with a street, pump gas, engine. Excellent workmanship Sir. You are definitely someone I would like to hang around with and learn from.

It is great to see the results of a known HP and weight combination. The Moroso slide rule says the e.t. is right on but MPH is several MPH slow. Easily explained by it being a fairly large car. If it was in a 88 Firebird of the same weight it would run 130 all things being equal. At those speeds aero becomes an issue.Good job!!!

Mark is the only guy Id let build me a "crate" engine since my machinist passed away
To build, assemble tune dyno or even test in his car..nobody does that.
That idle at hot temps tells me he can tune these within a hair of perfection.
Id be afriad that engine would rip my new GM T56 with all the hardened goodies to shreds

Put a 200 shot on it, run faster, blow the motor, oil the track down, go out with a bang.
Or, tweak it, tune it, make the whole car mor efficient and run faster on pump gas for years with the same motor and no nitrous track oil downs.
For you nitrous guys....Save your time trying tell us how if you 'tune' or 'know' how to tune nitrous you can use it for years on the same motor. Forget it. I'm not going to believe you and neither is anyone else with experience because we know better.
The chevelle runs great. With a little tweaking it will be running 9s in good air while your time bomb nitrous motor is blown to pieces because you thought you knew how to tune the untuneable nitrous.

I’d try lower gears and 💯 shot of juice in second and 3rd. 10.50 in a big ol car is impressive. Even 9.90 would be fuckin Boner on pump gas. Just bench racing here. I’ve never gone faster than 12.17. Hey Mark what are the cam specs on the 496 ? I have a 427 60 over with afr 265 oval port heads it's around 10.3 to 1 compression my cam is a Howard's 235x241@50 with 618 lift on a 108 lsa. it's a hydraulic roller the motor made best dyno was 661 hp and 605 torque with a holly 950 and 32 degrees of timing I think the combo is pretty good but I'm thinking about a Lil more camshaft more duration would be a little better what's your thoughts? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks Rick 427.

Good power from a 427. If it were me Id throw a bigger arm in it first, same heads/cam go from there
Of course Mark could give much better advice .

something wrong with your suspension front end is going up and down you might need 90/10 front shocks.

Wow if you had a gear swap change in the transmission don't know if you have it or not, developed for big block chevy drag and circle track by TCI the gear set spread is crucial and works just as well with small blocks in 3 speed automatic transmissions forgive me, i am not aware if you have a powerglide , th350 , th400, or manual transmission. The gearset i had in mind for you evens out the spread like a close ratio transmission and works with big block cars really well the automatic 3 speeds and also increases their load holding capability / durability. its if i remember correctly like a 2.20, 1.40, 1. to 1 ratios for tH350, then tailor your rear gear for launch or traps as usual. It cut a couple tenths at least and just over all maximizes everything and 60' the kit changes the first two gear ratios in TH400 and TH350's to even out the spread and allows more higher average high tq/hp numbers/ powerband laydown. Well don't know what ratios you have it looks great just something really i want to do in this 1981 camaro with a TH350, going with the 2.20 first , 1.40 second, 1:1 third gear set from another manufacturer i think PA has them now, TCI catalog stopped listing them. oh well just throwin somethin out there Your time and speed are awesome Great CHEVELLE.

At about 6 minutes in, the undercarriage shot... your engine is bouncing front to rear quite a bit and separate from the chassis. I'd look at your transmission mount and see if you could tighten that up, and possibly the engine mount material.
But watch your headers compared to the frame rails, that engine is moving a lot, and that direction isn't from torque.

I think a lot of that is the anti-shake algorithm of the video. If you watch, the shape of the rear end cover is all distorting in impossible ways due to the effect of the smoothing process for instance.

Dustin Meier i believe this is from not having roll cage bars from the upper firewall to the front of the frame horns. My Monte Carlo is fully caged except the front bars. The entire front clip flexes up from the last body mounts on the bottom of the firewall. Since the firewall is the hinge point, when the frame and engine go up in the front the header collectors drop twice as much in the back due to the length from the hinge point. You can tell when the car lifts and the front clip and engine droop the collectors get closer to the floor boards. Car slams down and collectors drop.

from what i understood for every thousand feet increase in altitude its a 3 percent loss in power...sea level he ll more then likely run 10.00s dropping down to 4.30 gears to compinsate
