I used to work with an lot of hmong people and have had the pleasure of eating with them. I have deep love and respect for hmong people and culture. Wonderful people.
Minnesota for a food scene has almost everything. Somali, Hmong, Vietnamese, Mexican, African, ethnic European. This also includes the ethnic staples around the country. I just wish MN had a tad more Caribbean and BBQ scene.
I know 2 Jamaican spots 1 on Rice Street In St Paul next door to Mama's Pizza and the other is in Roseville next to autozone and a cub foods
BBQ scene is a lot bigger since like 2 yrs ago, can find a spot in most major cities. Only problem is I haven't one that is worth their price
Yeah but they're not that good
@@SinfulSquirrel should try Pimento Kitchen in Minneapolis for Jamaican food. They're great!
You should try “Smokey’s” in East Bethel. Their ribs and pork tacos on “taco Tuesday” are the best !
Fun fact, Hmong people are the largest Asian subgroup in Minnesota at 95,000. They're mostly concentrated around the Twin Cities: Saint Paul and Minneapolis. Minnesotans have fully embraced Hmong food and culture, because they have assimilated so well into society. Their community have a staggering 2 billion USD buying power and they contribute hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes. Due to 200 years of migration, Hmong food is distinctly unique, it is a fusion of SouthEast/East Asian American cuisine. There are many Hmong athletes, CEO's, artists, entrepreneurs, doctors, lawyers and elected officials who call Minnesota home today.
Yes! Welcome to Hmong Village! I'm glad you liked it! The community has worked hard over the years to really bring it together and making it accessible to the general public and worked even harder to keep things going during the pandemic. I'm glad you were finally able to visit!
Papaya salad usually uses fish sauce, lime, salt and sugar as a base. From there each shop will have their own ratios and secret ingredients. But yes. Some of the best shops are the ones at the end and around the corner of the food court. I'm glad you found that stall. While all the stalls generally serve the same things: papaya salad, pho, hmong sausage, chicken, pork belly etc; Each shop there has their own particular way of cooking things so it's fun to try the different shops and find your own favorites amongst them.
Love getting pork belly over there. Want one with crunchy skin? They got. Want a softer savory version with juicy meat? They got it. A mix of both? They got it. each shop has their own way of doing it. And if you ask, they can double fry it for you so you get some extra crispy versions. And pho is always a hit there. Same deal too. Each shop has their own blends and spices to the broths so you can find a pho that suits your taste all in one area. I hope you come back again!
I live right near the Hmong village bit I haven't been back in a few years. I definitely want to visit you guys again ❤
Still not real hmong food.
Hmong food is Asian/American fusion cuisine. It is real Hmong food. @@jaymua292
Hmong chiming in here: Every Hmong person's mouth be watering seeing the papaya salad made. Also, Hmong sausage and purple sticky rice is BOMB!
Bro. I had a watery mouth for every option he bought at the market lol. Moved down to SoCal for almost two years now and it makes me miss home so much 😭😭
I’m so proud and grateful that you tried eating Hmong food. As a Hmong person, I thoroughly enjoyed you speaking highly and enjoying Hmong sausage and sticky rice. Such a wonderfully simple meal.
That’s cool you visited Hmong Village. Hmong food is a fusion of many cultures and it’s true we have our own twist to each recipe. Hmong food in America is mostly influenced by southeast asian dishes because we immigrated from there. However, I’m sure Hmong traditional food in China would be closer to being authentic from more “ancient” times. The Hmong who migrated from China to Southeast Asia mostly lived in the mountains so it makes sense why the lifestyle (food, tools, clothes, etc) are much more humble. Even so, it’s really nice to see how the Hmong cultures and traditions are so diverse. Thank you for bringing exposure to the food Hmong in America enjoy.
I wouldn’t say those are traditional Hmong food but they are the kind of food we like to eat nowadays. Especially like at Hmong new year. Traditional Hmong food are much more simple such as boiled chicken and rice.
They don't eat our "traditional" boiled food back in China either....So it's all Hmong food.
@@scottishd0g87 name them. 😂 Every single Hmong dish is a copy of another country. I would know.
Boiled chicken(or pork) and greens is not traditional hmong food. Its called " cook and eat with what ever the fuck u have to eat to survive with little to none resources in the jungles of laos" 😂 real authentic hmong food is back in southern part of china like szechaun to be exact but hmong in the US has lost every trace of their steps to it 😂
@rivvin8387 and as someone who is Hmong, I agree. We just take a food and just attune them into flavors we prefer.
Beside just boiled chicken with good herbal seasoning.
@@scottishd0g87most hmong in usa came from laos. They eat lao food. Go as your parents and grandparents
Yes!!! Mike, I’ve been a huge fan for years. It’s so exciting to see my culture get some love!
thank you for highlighting the minneapolis food scene, we get overlooked so much!
Psst...don't forget about St. Paul. After all, Hmong Village is there, and the majority of the Hmong residents of the Twin Cities live in St. Paul.
Can confirm, Matt's Bar is a great place with basic food done right. The Juicy Lucy is a true Minnesota classic for a reason. Glad you finally got to taste the original, Mike. 👍
Next time come to Smok'N Outdoors Bbq. We'd love to have you try our food.
The original? The original's at 5'8 club 🧐
Soooo happy to see you choose these cuisines and the entrees!! You did it right!! Especially for the Hmong food!
Wow, nice to see you enjoy hmong food. Thanks for sharing.
Great episode. Thank you for sharing some of your memories ❤️
If the noodle is that spicy for Mike I’d say 95 percent of the population could not handle it.
The spice gets worse as u eat. It not bad as u eat little by little
Pretty much an Asian level of spice which is amazing! In the words of another food vlogger, "ไม่เผ็ดไม่กิน!" 😁
Hmmm ok
Oh yes--if Mikey says it's really spicy? It means that it would melt the faces of mere mortals like us clean off!
99.9%
Wow! That ALL looked great! If I ever happen to be in Minnesota I know where I'll be eating. Thanks Mike!
❤❤❤thank u for highlighting Hmong food. Papaya and sticky rice is the best!!!!🫶

I’m so glad Mike is doing affordable food reviews again! This kind of content is so much more relatable
Mike!! I always go to your pork cha sui recipe! It’s been the #1 recipe for me. Everyone I make it for LOVES it!
I worked with a Hmong gal and she would bring in stuffed chicken wings and that exact type of sausage. I ate sooooo much of it. I miss working with her!
I'm so glad you were able to visit all these places. I love Pizzeria Lola!!!! Her kimchi is homemade.
Loved the showcase of Hmong food! Been a long time follower~! I need to go try that pizza place!
i’m hmong, and literally watching you eat our food makes me so proud. so ty!
I didn't know you lived in Austin first, that's awesome. When you have time, Minnesota fishing is always the answer!
Well it's good to have you back. Great to see you show hmong village in one of your vids. l'm definitely going to try the pizza place.
Always amazing content!

That burger looked delicious! 👍🍔😊 The Hmong food looked fantastic. Yummy salad.
Sticky rice dipped with papaya sauce is GOATED
Welcome to MN Mike! Whenever I go to Hmong Village, I always have to get my favorite boba, papaya salad with purple sticky rice. It goes so well together. And my mom loves that plain noodle dish. Enjoy your stay!
Thanks for coming to Mn!
saint paul has 2 huge hmong events with visitors from all over the world. hmong new year at river center and sports festival at como park. also the lowertown farmers market in saint paul

Good to see Mikey actually showcase community focused businesses instead of another place trying to go viral on IG with gigantic stunt food.

I'm so glad you visited the Twin Cities!!! I hope you had a blast and that you visit us again soon!
Classic Man V Food with Adam Richman was my first introduction to the Juicy Lucy too! So glad it met your expectations, Mike! And thank you for introducing us to Hmong cuisine. That sticky rice looked SO chewy and yummy! 🤍
Im glad you were able to enjoy your stay and eat some Hmong food. Please come back when the owner of Hmong Village opens up another one that will be located in Maplewood Mall. Its probably going to be the biggest hmong market place in the US. :) cant wait for you to review then.
I LOVE the Hmong Village!🥰😍😋🤤
I love that Hmong market and the other one too.
Im Minnesotan, Hmong culture here is the Best!
That feeling when Mikey comes to your town! So glad you made it to Hmong Village too.
And my papaya salad craving meter just broke lol. Probably not with hot dogs or shrimp 😬 but I was totally salivating over that salad 🤤🤤
Yay! It’s about time you review Hmong food. Thanks my friend.
Will definitely try the Juicy Lucy and Lola pizzas next time when I visit there.
That's my favorite papaya lady too LOL 😆
love the juicy lucy burgers. MN is so diverse, you can practically get any kind of food here. I'll have to go try out Lola.
Nice for you to visit Minnesota for the "best days of summer celebration AKA State Fair. Hope you got to try some of the crazy, wacky foods the fair has to offer. They try and get a few new foods each year. Deep fried pickles, deep fried Oreos and others. Of course, you gotta try a Corn Dog or 2. That Jucy Lucy sure looked like perfection. I've never been to Matts but we have quite a few other places that offer up Jucy Lucys. Crooked Pint and Ale is my current favorite. But the Nook, Blue Door Pub, 5-8 club offer some very good ones to. Best part is they are in St Paul only (The Nook) or have restaurants in St Paul. It's not just Minneapolis that has great food. The Hmong Village sure seems like a great place when wanting to get adventurous when dining out. You probably won't read this but hope your visit was enjoyable.
Papaya salad is so good. The pepper does kick in. But the spiciness doesn’t stop you from eating more of it 😆.
Welcome to Minnesota 😊
Oh wow!! Thank you for coming to Minnesota!! Wish we could have ran into you!!
The pork ribs... and that pizza.... wow
That’s my aunt’s papaya stall!!! Go support! She makes the best!
That pizza got me drooling
Wow you eating foods so yummy. I really want to eat too. You make me so hungry.

Drooling over papaya salad. Love a good papaya salad
If only i was at hmong village when you were there! I would love a photo! Thanks for trying out hmong food
So cool you was in my hometown
Mike if you liked the papaya salad combo with the Hmong sausage, try papaya salad with chicharron.
I ever had that pizza goosebumps reactivated this is so crazy 😢😢😢😢😂
Hitting up all my favorite spots! Check out hmongtown market place and Nong’s bistro next time!
That drink is called Nava really good
Mike, you gotta dip the sticky rice in the papaya salad juice 👌🏼hella good
I have been to hmong village and absolutely can stay there the whole day just eating.
Maybe I should go there too this summer
When you say the noodles were spicy but kept going back for more hehe
Omg Minnesota LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I love Hmong cooking. I love their parties, better slam that beer when they ask you to 😂
What you are poaching on Sonny turf
Lmao
😂😂😂
Love the spicy ribs and papaya salad. That pizza looks delicious. Nice sharing Mike
One of the very few times I've seen Mike flustered by the heat of a dish, haha
BTW where did you get those pork ribs? Never seen them and the look amazing.
Its weird knowing that 7 months ago, Mikey was in MN.... And Hmong village lol. I can taste the food from the screen XD
i always buy papaya salad made fresh by papaya makers in person. that way you get to do quality control on the spot. I learned my lessons of buying pre-made papaya salads.
Yes you made it to MN! If you struggled with those noodles that truly scares me.
Omg you went to get the hidden papaya that i always got. 👍
Pro tip Mike. Dip the sticky rice in that papaya sauce 😁😁
Mike, I could almost taste that papaya salad.
Yup, we love pepper with just about anything
So glad you finally got to try the juicy Lucy and Hmong food and glad you enjoyed it! Hope you enjoyed Minnesota and what it has to offer! Much love from a Minnesotan!

Mike you should’ve gone and tried blue print. There pepper burger is bomb, it’s a hmong American twist.
The papaya salad looked fire but why she put hot dog in it?!?! Lol
next time in Minnesota you have to check out Owamni by The Sioux Chef!!!
Hey you’re in my city!!
When I go to Pizzeria Lola, I order a side of kimchi to put on the bulgogi bbq pizza.
Mikey you should of looked for raw beef larb with bio. That will test your taste buds. Spicy, bitter all in one bit
