Clarification: I am aware of AoE grinding tactics but this video is more for beginner's, for instance people who have never played vanilla or private servers. AoE grinding is a more advanced tactic that needs it's own video so I am aware of alternative talent builds.
Put only 2 in Elemental Precision early on and 3 in Improved Frostbolt. Why? For same level or +1 level mobs your miss chance is 96% and 95% respectively, and you can never have over 99% spell hit chance. So for mobs up to 1 level higher than you 4% spell hit is the maximum you benefit from. For mobs 2 levels higher than you (94% hit chance) 5% is the maximum you benefit from. By speccing 3/3 you're essentially wasting a talent point unless you're fighting mobs 2+ levels over you. And for mobs exactly 2 levels higher than you you get only half the benefit of the last talent (1% instead of the 2% the talent tooltip says).
This is exactly what I need. Starting on classic and wanting to play a mage; I've been playing since vanilla but I'm a retail player and a retail mage is totally different from classic mage, and I never played mage until Cata or MoP. I have no idea what to do to play a classic mage. This video is exactly what I need for learning the class well enough to play. I'm pretty well versed in LoS pulling etc because I've mained a hunter since vanilla, and was the designated puller on raids because I could manage groups of mobs with LoS and traps, so AoE grinding should be easy enough for me to figure out, but this video not focusing on it helps with getting a handle on the proper way to play the class.
Then what would be your purpose for frost mage, since fire single target does far more damage. The purpose of frost is crowd control, and he completely omitted permafrost and improved blizzard. I don't understand the purpose of this build or its use.
On the reward items they dont show the price they will sell for, so cant select the highest value one, is this a addon that shows you the sell price of them? Ty

One piece of advice and this isn't just you, it's almost all youtubers showcasing builds.. when you go over each talent, you don't leave the talent description on there long enough for someone to read.. I had to go back, pause, go forward, pause, just to be able to read the talent description. I know, that information is widely available through Google searching but why would I want to waste the time to do that when it's right here in the video.. So in the future, allow a few seconds of time for us to read the talents effects before moving on to the next one.
Would it be feasible to make a speed leveling guide, sort of like what Alexsensual did a while back, where you go through each 10 level bracket and highlight the best quests to do/where to go etc ?
Hey man liking your videos, getting better with each upload! Gotta point out a few points of argument here though 1. The spec you have outlined is good for single target and WPVP, really shuts down melee classes. the problem is that it makes you unable to aoe grind at all when viable situations for it arise. Even if its not your preferred play style it is a pretty big deal when opportunity knocks. 2.in your list of what spells to train you've left out some pretty big ones. Evocation, man a gems, portals/teleports to name a few that GREATLY improve your leveling experience 3. Honestly getting wand damage so late is pretty pointless and didnt have much of a point to begin with, just keeping your wand up to date with quest rewards is good enough. 4.not talking about aoe grinding in a mage leveling guide is pretty feelsbadman Really dont meen to shitpost I really am enjoying your content! *edit* Also just wanted to point out that you can just keep several pieces of high spirit gear in your bag and use macros or an addon to equip/unequip when using evocation or drinking. You dont front load your mana use like other classes like priest or shaman so in combat spirit isn't as viable as more int/sp/stam.
I really dont think aoe is going to be all that effective come launch. Every wanna be is all ready going over every list of potential aoe grind spots so the competition is gonna be unreal I am going to go single target up to Mara then respec.

Even if you're a bit slower and havnt reached 60 by phase 2, your 52-60 experience is a cake walk provided you've spent the measly 5 points in the appropriate talents
Demo Bay yes let’s tell the new players to sacrifice safety for a couple moments at level 55 to aoe grind....... reseccing is a thing so 100% new Mage’s start with more of a single target build respect into aoe grind if you want
Demo Bay plus you are flat out wrong about the wand damage. This greatly improves on your damage output, I use my wand constantly, +25% damage is crazy good.
Real guide: Go deep frost and aoe spec (imp blizz). Get just enough intellect to do your full combo, then spell power, then 50/50 spir/stam. This way, you can single target most of the time, and have the ability to aoe whenever you get the opportunity to (See a pack of 5+ non-ranged enemies). Most of the time, you will be able to take advantage of the aoe spec, especially with sharding in classic.
After leveling a mage to 60 in vanilla, I'd say that single target leveling is just plain bad for a number of reasons, not just speed. AoE leveling is unforgiving if you get dazed or miss a hit, but it really isn't that difficult after doing a run a few times, especially if you grind mobs that are 4-5 levels lower than you. The main benefit I found was that I got much more gold and cloth, you can keep your tailoring always very high, and make the top gear as you level, without much need for the auction house. I got many of the patterns for top gear between 35-50 just off the humanoid mobs during my grinding, and was able to equip sets quickly. There are some issues with competition, especially with the pirates near gadgetzan. And when that happens, I just would log off. It worked well for me since I had limited play time, but not a strict schedule. If you're the opposite, then AoE grinding can be hard to rely on from 40-50 especially. Also on vanilla servers improved cone of cold often replaces the slow of blizzard, so I never got 3/3 blizzard since the slow would get removed. I did play a mage back in 05 but I don't remember if that was a thing or not. So I was doing 2/2 improved cone, and 2/3 improved blizzard
Has someone done the maths on wands ? I mean with free water it would be worth drinking if the frost bolt does any more damage than the wand. I suppose you could pull a mob at half mana and finish with a wand strike. But for something so situational I'm no going out of my way to find a better wand. .. thank you for the vid

Totally feasible guys. Completely build you entire character for AOE leveling. Also, it's only actually possible in like two places in the entire FUCKING world. That will always be spam camped by the other 1200 mages who watched the aoe leveling guild. Who won't actually be camping it, because it'll be camped by a group with a pally tank and his friends. So yea, go ahead and AOE level, for two hours a day at 5 am...totally worth the gold for repsecs.

@@fennec7906 Thats exactly right. Thats how it was in vanilla, you could do some packs here and there but it was very rare that you could grind reliably for a length of time.

There will be phasing at the start of launch of classic and if you level image quick enough you can sprint out ahead of the pack and not worry about lack of mobs

Frost bite works off any chill effect so it's much stronger then just proccing off of ice armor.

This method is good but for 45+ aoe grind will give you insane xp per hour pls shitload of gold specially if you grind in hinterlands and wpl.
And a one enemy griefing you can say good bye to all of those rates.

Getting icefury wand at level 30 is extremely difficult solo.

He's doing it for Mana efficiency and because wands suffer from pushback. He's taking hits frommobs to proc his freeze.
The mage quest for Icefury Wand does not start till lvl 35
Nope, you can get the quest at level 30. If you have a friend you can finish this quest early. It's just hard to finish at 30.
