Why so much focus on private server macros when we know for a fact that Classic will use the modern code? You'd be better of switching it for current retail macros, since they'll be more accurate.

First time rolling Warlock on the fresh servers. Thanks for the guide and furthermore explaining your decisions! Many tell the most optimal decisions but few explain why.
@@kargozgaming You are replying to a 6 year old guide, respect to you Kargoz. I came to have a look as the new uncapped Classic peaks my interest as Warlocks were always shoehorned into shadowbolt spamming, little bit more variety for doing dps now.
As a warlock main for years I was thoroughly happy to see you do a warlock guide next. Great job btw! I'd like to add a petmacro to the list: /script if UnitExists("target") then if a==0 then PetAttack(target) a=1 else if UnitExists("pettarget") and UnitIsUnit("target", "pettarget") then PetFollow("YourNameHere") a=0 else PetAttack(target) end;end; else PetFollow("YourNameHere") a=0 end; This will make your pet attack whatever target you have. And when pressed again will have it follow you. Very handy as you only need to use one keybind for it.
What a lot of guys forget is that Vanilla WoW was probably most peoples 1st mmorpg and the competitive mindset of min/making, bis items, knowing the meta mindset etc came from private servers/moba games/online competitive scene of gaming. Having the private server mentality of knowing everything, following a certain pattern will affect the true original vanilla experience. For example now when I play online games be it mmorpgs or mobas I always learn the meta and the competitive side of the game firstly. This mindset didnt exist before because it was all about the unknown, forging your own adventure and learning on the way not knowing everything which created a lot of adventurous memories, the true vanilla experience was before the competitive side of mmorpgs/mobas/online gaming in general came into play or when meta awareness wasn't a thing at all. I'm not saying it is the right way to play because you cant go back in time and reverse and erase memory but the true vanilla experience is not just about "no changes" it is also about the innocence of a child stepping into a world not knowing anything about wow/online gaming/competitive gaming/meta game & stepping into the unknown! Im so freaking hyped for classic cya there guys we're going home! :'-) !
Meta awareness and min/maxing was there back in vanilla and something that existed in mmorpgs before WoW. Just because players new to the genre didn't know about it then doesn't mean it didn't exist. I would say it's more widespread and amplified now since people have had 15 years to add to the knowledge base but it wasn't something that originated from the private server culture.
I can attest as a player that came from EQ Online Adventures as my first MMO, and being there when wow launched on Xmas 2004. At that time in WoW I was a fkn moron. 👍
I found improved voidwalker extremely op when leveling. I recommend getting this ASAP after instant corruption. You won't be able to pull agro on single targets, multi target threat is higher, and sacrifice is just OP^2. The dps you lose is more than made up for by the better threat and survivability. Leveling is faster. Good video!
Yeah, im at lvl 41 now and i cant really life tap and drain life efficiently because if i use more than corruption and curse of agony, my voidwalker can no longer hold aggro :(
The enchanted gold bloodrobe, in addition to being great right up to the low 50s, had one other big selling point: visually it was a perfect match for Whitemane’s Chapeau. Those two items were like the official uniform of an up and coming mid-range lock back in the day.
I'm almost totally new to WOW (had like a level 15 druid back in 2006) but always regretted not soaking in vanilla when it was available. So your videos are reaching not just veterans but some new folks too. Really quality content man.
No way, i am happy its coming out in late august. I am taking 2 weeks off work so i can play while the kids are in school and i dont have to dad. its going to be like i am 25 again!!!
the only thin i would add to these guides is quickly go over the hit chance you would want to get for each class and for each build. other then that best guides ever
Do not skip curse of recklessness!!! If you fear a mob and it's running to aggro mobs you don't want you slap it with CoR and it will come back to you. Then you slap coa back up and it will start getting feared in a new direction..
Really though.... This is so fucking epic!! People who really love this era will keep this server alive for years. The way they are releasing the content over the months will really keep the longevity going. Especially since not every guild will have everything on auto farm right away.
I'm really excited for Vanilla to come. Your amazing guides will blow up. I've been thinking about what class to pick and this has helped me a lot to understand each class. Keep going, you rock. :)
Love the vids, seriously - great stuff! On the other hand, I'm conflicted. The more I watch, the more I get hyped for the release. But the more I watch, the more I remember, which leeches a bit of the fun of re-discovering things (if that makes any sense) Keep up the great work!
I am so excited for classic, Warlock will probably be my first toon to level up, for the reduced cost. Also probably taking Enchanting/Tailoring for easy costless profits. Back in original vanilla I was a clicker (was still new to computer gaming, had no idea what key binds were), didn't use any key binds, so I am stoked to see how much more efficient I can be now.
I used to be a mage class officer is a raiding guild back in the day if you ever need help. Can't wait for Classic, thank you so much for the nostalgia and the hype!
I remember in vanilla on the lock I levelled, when I got the tailor gear (shadow weave iirc) in the late 30's 40's, I respecced closely to that third spec with 3/3 drain life and just drain life tanked everything. Nigh unkillable in open world with so much sp at that level.
Hey Kargoz! Loved the vid, especially the flavour of presenting it. However, there are some topics I heavily disagree on and I think are just objective mistakes: - The petattack macros onto your spells are just straight up lazyness on behalf of the player. It doesn't cost that much effort to straight up keybind petattack and petfollow, it makes your pet so much more usefull, interactive and controllable as sending your pet in when starting to cast is generally not the ideal timing to do that. It also makes it so you're not entirely fucked by your voidwalker stuttering arround when you're multi-targetting, or not having to keybind the same spell twice - one with the petattack in it and the other one without it. - As for a spec it's more of a personal opinion more than a fact that I heavily prefer a improved drain soul --> Improved Voidwalker --> Ruin --> Nightfall/Grim Reach --> Fel Domination build. Where you can swap the prio on stuff based on individual needs, as this is my prefered order but I've known some warlocks prefering to go Drain Soul --> Voidwalker --> Fel Domination --> Ruin --> Nightfall/Grim Reach so they are able to quickly pull out their succubus when getting 2v1 ganked and actually winning quite a few of those 2v1 with quick fears & seduces, the Fel domination talent is absolutely crucial for this. Not saying this is the only viable warlock levelling spec, but this was a levelling spec generally perceived as one of the - if not the best/most flexible warlock levelling spec, certainly worth of a mention. (screenshot: i.gyazo.com/3c9478b1386622257eaf087203c40301.png) - Again in the talent section when Showing the SM/DS spec picking all abilities that improve pet Mana/Damage/Stamina when speccing into Demonic sacrifice :whut:. Sure, the demonoligy tree is filled with shitty talents at the start and you gotta put em somewhere, but improved fel domination and improved healthstone are pretty much a must, personally also prefer improved imp over extra pet mana for utility in dungeons - Show SM/Ruin build while levelling while putting points in improved searing pain, 1 minute later: skip training searing pain? I personally prefer Cataclysm talent over the Improved Searing Pain talent as I'm the pussy trying to avoid wpvp while levelling in order to level faster but if you do wpvp I would understand the talents in improved searing pain as it is a really underrated pvp-spell. - Basically all the spells you suggested to skip are highly usefull, and what are you saving the couple silver for exactly, you get a free freakin mount at lvl 40, there is no reason whatsoever to skip learning spells that are only (very!) usefull situationally and cost a couple silver to learn. I'm talking about: - Curse of Recklessness - often the one and only MVP in my levelling process, preventing a mob from fleeing and pulling a whole group of additional mobs, this spell is an absolute must if you are going to level somewhat effectively / with more than 3 spells keybound -Searing Pain: mentioned in the point above -Rain of Fire: your only AoE spell. Provided, it's not good, that's true. But it's something! even in the deadmines when you're grouping up 10 non-elite miners it provides its usefullness already -Banish: Seriously now? arguably the best CC in the game. True, only usable situationally but whenever you are able to cast this spell, be it on elementals, be it on an enemy warlock pet this spell will be your MVP all day long. Not training it hurts my eyes - Enslave Demon: Again a situational, but powerful spell. and guess what: you ARE going to run into demons, potentially stronger than your own pet, or your pet gets killed during combat. Having this on your action bars will save your day and damn, this spell is so fun to use whenever you can it adds so much joy on top of the very situational usefullness - Curse of Shadow: Why? every mob that takes more than a couple shadow bolts to kill, CoS is already usefull. On top of that, at the pull starting of with a CoS also gives your tank 1 GCD of extra time before you start rolling out the dips, providing more consistent and safer damage especially at the start of fights. (you can also play safe by just waiting a couple seconds at pull, but what is the argument for NOT casting CoS then?) -Sense Demons: You're not entirely wrong about this one, but I still prefer to learn it as it just occasionally gives away the location of an enemy warlock, and that's yet another fight I can avoid or can get the first jump on my target provided he didn't learn / didn't bother to activate the spell. - Immolate is never worth the casting time/mana if you have a somewhat decent wand -Quite a nice wand list, don't have a vast knolwedge of all available wands myself but the stuff I do know I wasn't able to spot any mistake -Skipping Succ/Felhunter quest. Ok, Felhunter you can arguably skip with ease, but damn skipping that succubus quest. I know it's a bitch, but unless you're going for server first warlock and you're on a somewhat populated server it is soooo good if handled well (mostly just keybinding it's abilities). Your group lacks cc in a dungeon? You can step in and charm instead of fear, which is usually pretty dangerous. Getting 2v1'd? better fear, fel domination --> succ > charm second, hurray you're the only class with double cc (potential for triple cc if one of the enemies is a warlock with a pet). Sure, some people never use their succubus and do fine without it. That doesn't mean however in a lot of situations having a lot of this stuff keybound has a way higher skill cap, but the rewards are also there if you succeed. Damn winning 2 or 3v1's while levelling feels rewarding by using the double cc strat. It doesn't always work if your enemies know how to play arround it well, but often enough they do not. Again, this post was nitpicking from my personal experiences. Maybe a lot of stuff here I present as objectively wrong where nuance might be possible and I didn't see it. If that's the case, feel free to discuss / Put my nose on it as I did write all this in one go while watching the video, so mistakes are possible. Just to reconfirm that I really enjoyed the video, but as a warlock main something I like even more is pointing out my own beliefs and nitpicking every smallest detail that doesn't really matter and blow it out of proportion, blame the class, not the player.
I'm currently working on an Orc Warlock speedrun path and strategy, using Joana's guide as a template and modifying it where needed. Got the starting zone down to a better time than Joana's record consistently and just finished optimizing durotar, basically until reaching XR. Do you know any people or a community interested in working on this as well? I think there is a great potential in warlock speed leveling and I'd love to bounce ideas off someone and ask more experienced players about things that I don't know for sure - such as, when should I expect crafted wands to appear on AH after the server launch and other intangible things that can be only learned from new server experiences. This guide is also helpful so thanks for the great work ;)
Nice. I leveled my gnome warlock through vanilla with almost the same as his first build. But I never used macros back then...straight hardcore manual mode. Can’t wait to run a lock again.
Dammit! I thought I knew for sure I would play Priest in Classic, but now you are reminding me how much fun I had with Warlock in Vanilla/BC! :D I loved playing Affliction... dot dot dot! :D Warlock was the only class I was ever able to get the achievement for 20 kills without dying in Warsong Gulch, and one of the most fun for leveling and grinding. Yes, locks are a ton of fun, and highly useful for both damage and CC in dungeons/raids.
I personally disagree with macroing pet attack to your abilities. binding pet attack to a key is more effective, as you can pull with your pet that way, and it isn't running around from mob to mob when you're multi dotting. i bind attack, then DoT up. that way if I fear/dot another mob , my pet won't hit it and break it out of fear, or spend time running in circles between enemies .
Another good wand not listed in the google doc is the Stingshot Wand 22.2 dps from the "Akira" quest in thousand needles for horde. its a sweet wand with nature damage and a cool light effect
Yours is quickly becoming one of my favorite channels. I am getting more and more excited for Classic and your videos are helping me decide what I want to play (as well as providing extra hype). The production value is great, and I hope you do well. Why did your old guides get pulled?
Well that is a shame, I don't see why. Perhaps music? Game guides are like the bread and butter of youtube videos, I can't imagine the grounds on which they put a strike on them. In any case, I am glad to see you moving forward. I think that this will be a channel I use profusely come Classic 's launch. And I will make sure to send some others along too!
You have me so hyped for classic. I’ve watched this video twice. Wish I could upvote twice. Awesome video. You sound like you legitimately care about warlocks.
I have played Warlock almost exclusive. A few things that I think should be noted: PVP: Stuns should be cons or as at least considered as a major weakness. In pvp stuns will destroy most warlocks as you don't have a great counter to them unless you are an Orc. Past that you can be very good in PVP just a good rogue will always be a weakness. Raids and Dungeons: Warlocks are great because of their stamina in fights, but I would not classify their damage as great or even that good, especially without a shadow priest or regular heals, in raids that comes in TBC when they become the unstoppable shadow bolt machine. You don't even get a great AOE until TBC. Most of the time you will be managing your threat in raids and the utility they bring is more important (Curses, Hstones, Summoning, etc.). Many times you will be able to spike damage, which means you really have to watch threat sometimes, but not sustain it in raids. Going into Naxx is when you will start to shine some. Warlocks are probably the highest skill cap in Classic. You level extremely fast, but at 60 it becomes much harder to provide value outside of utility. Chance to hit is pretty much your most needed stat at 60. Warlock was a kitchen sink type class that always seemed like Blizzard didn't quite have a clear idea what it was early on other than a dot class. Dot classes are notorious for trying to balance in MMOs, so in many ways I think they were originally overtuned in some areas and undertuned in others. That is also a reason there are so many conflicting opinions about the best way to level and play the class. In Vanilla I had a warlock buddy in my raiding guild, and we would go back and forth over the best specs, etc. for this very reason, and it is still going on in many ways to this day. I just see a lot of hyping up warlocks these days, but just be warned there are some serious downsides to the class that I believe are getting majorly understated. Don't get me wrong I love the class beyond any other class but be for warned it is a messy rough class in Vanilla that didn't shine until The Burning Crusade with Shadow and Flame and SL/SL.
As a fellow WL main till the end of Wrath of the Lich King (stopped playing on Cataclysm release), i totaly agree with you on every point but one. Stuns are your biggest enemy in PvP, agreed. You can do something about it though (Talking about 1v1 situations). You have your Sukkubus to seduce the enemy while youre stunned, on top of that you can take ingenieur as a profession wich gives you those lovely stun explosives (wich you can precast since the traveltime of the projectile is quite long, even if you throw them right on the ground youre standing on). You also have a lot of instants to prevent taking further damage after you got stunlocked (if you die while stunned anyway, its most likely a matter of gear difference, wich is a thing with every class). I did a lot of pvp in classic and the only thing i found where overwhelmingly hard to manage where heal Druids wich could just outrun you 24/7 and there was nothing you could do about it (shapeshifting bastards). I agree on the "a good rogue will always be a weakness" part, even though that counts for every Class.
@@derbudz I should have been a little more specific. I am mostly referring to world pvp. What I meant by "good" is most of them will pick their fights and know what to do. Your succubus can help against a bad rogue, 1v1, or one you can catch off guard, but the succubus being so fragile and being the only invisible pet you have you don't stand much of a chance. You are right though succubus is the one counter we have. Druids can be tough, Warriors can be really tough, etc. A rogue worth his salt will still outpace a warlock most of the time.
Rogues are fairly easy to counter, theres stun remove potions and visability potions. But yeah if they jump you first then you are in difficult times. Tho anything can counter anything in Classis and TBC
@@serza7254 Warlocks have a harder time with rogue than most other classes. On top of that many other classes can be really tough as well. The fact is Drakedog and many others that have made Warlocks out to be some overpowered pvp are simply wrong. Warlocks is Vanilla had great CC and quite few tricks, but were far worse in pvp than they have been made out to be.
Noticeable absence of succubus drain tank build. Succubus does nutty damage and doesn't burn much mana so you can put the pet tap to work and you pick up concentration and imp drain life to heal through most threat you take. Succubus also has a cc ability that you can take advantage of if number of mobs becomes and issue.
one small note for warlocks who want to be a bit more advanced from the jump, do not bake your pet attack into skills like he mentioned in the video. yes, it will get the job done but there will be times when you want your pet staying on 1 mob while you either dot or shadow bolt another mob or while you refresh dots on a mob that your pet already has aggro on. if you bake pet attack into an ability it's a lazy way to get the job done but you will ultimately notice that you are using globals and mana inefficiently just to move your pet around with these casts. find 2 binds that make sense to you for making your pet attack and return, i personally use mouse wheel up for attack and mouse wheel down to go passive but it's whatever works for you. if you're new you can bake it in like he said to get a grasp, but ultimately you will not want to keep it this way once you know what you're doing.
Really like your guides man. I've made a few for the rogue community. And I know you've poured a ton of yourself into these guides in order to get them going. I also like how consistent your info is especially collaborating with people that know their class inside and out and then offering it to the community. Liked and subscribed.
youve really been helping me pump up classic wow brother. subscription has been canceled since the day after i hit 120 in BFA just waiting for the classic experience to take me home.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Really appreciate all the hardwork and leg work you did to help people get started. Good Luck today in Classic!
I don't get this, why skip the Succ and Felhunter quests? The succubus quest gives you a 12 slot soul bag and the Felhunter quest gives you a 16 slot soul bag, you yourself said that 20+ is when you use the advanced drain soul macro, why do you think it's 20+? Because that's when the Succubus quest unlocks! Sure they are a pain to do but at the end of the day you will be benefiting more in the long run by getting the soul bags. Yes, you can buy the 20 slot soul bag off the AH but on a fresh start server there won't be any because it requires a tailor to make one and if you are at the same level as the fastest leveller it will literally be impossible to get. Very strange that the supposed experienced Warlock players failed to mentioned this, I guess it must have slipped their minds...
As a Lock in Vanilla and through TBC into WOTLK, you are 100% correct. There's no reason unless you're trying to break some speed-leveling record that these quests should be skipped. Soul bag will save you a lot of grief. The rest of his advice is pretty good, especially his rotations and pet control (and not leveling all of your spells).
This is way late but whatever. These guides are about efficiency and running all over the place for a soul bag ain't very efficient with your time. It's not a never thing, just til you get a mount.
@@rizipt If its about efficiency its still bad advice Succy is the best leveling pet on mobs not elite or rare does way more damage and heals quickly. you will burn down mobs fast enough so that damage will not be too great
Excellent guide! I love that you put the wand part in there and where to get them. Its things like that that I appreciate, more of helpful hints than cookie cutter builds.
So I have a question for you Kargoz. I noticed you are preferring Orc over and Undead and I'm wondering why? Pure visual or do you actually believe that Orc>Undead if we min-max?
Sorry, I'm not good with macros in WOW. Are you going to update them for Classic release/beta? I tried the Standalone Pet Send Macro and it just tells me it's blocked from the UI.
Dude its insane, i played for 7 hours today and didnt drink or eat once. (Although i was duo leveling with a rogue and when they can ambush properly everything dies very fast)
PLEASE NOTE: YOU DO NOT NEED THE MENTION MACRO AT 6:10 WHETHER OR NOT YOUR OR YOUR PET GETS THE FINAL BLOW DOES NOT MATTER IMPROVED DRAIN SOUL WILL STILL PROC
Hi Kargoz, thanks a lot for all your guides. My buddy and I are thinking about leveling Mage + Warlock Duo. The goal is to AOE level. Do you think that makes sense with this combo? I just thought that blizzard + rain of fire should be OP OP. We want to get ahead of the pack on release. Do you think with this comb we have a good shot at this? So we would quest+grind till 20 and then start AOE farming. Will we be double as fast, or do you think we will waste our time, since we will run out of camps as two, and might be on average slower than solo leveling mage? Also, do you have some advice in great AOE leveling spots? Cheers, and keep up the awesome work. You really get me hiped dude!
6:18 the one macro i tried is the pet attack + cast spell and this does not work cause its blocked from blizzard, u always get this message... It works simply with: /petattack /cast "spell name"
Your guides are really good man! Feel free to slow down a little bit when speaking, especially when going over the talents. It would make it easier to catch what you're saying! :)
I've spent the whole night watching classic/vanilla wow vids. Mulling over what to make for classic; I'm definitely going a warlock. Maybe orc for the wolfie mount and the stun resist. The first character I ever made in wow was an undead lock. Loved that character so much. Also...earned a sub ;P I will watch all your guides. Now I have to wait until classic comes out play. I hope it's very early next year. BTW - Have been off wow for 9 years, played preBC and BC.
1) Improved Soul drain gives you really really small amount of mana if you actually bother to calculate the benefit, like actual numbers. It also stops mana regeneration from your wanding. Add to this the mana cost of Drain Soul rank 1 and you will realize that you get such a miserable benefit from it, that it's just not worth casting. 2) I also disagree with rotation, it should be Curse of Agony, Corruption and may be Immolate, not the other way around. My way you won't be left with only Curse of Agony on the target while immolate is long gone. Moreover CoA and Corruption first, allows your pet time to get initial aggro. 3) Nightfall is good for pvp, but not so much for leveling, Shadowbolt is increadibly wastful on mana, add to that 5 second rule that you violate by interrupting you wanding, and you will find yourself sitting and draining water. Warlock should never sit down and drink water, if you do, you are doing something wrong.
@Dácio Nunes 1 - Nice to see a man who actually crunched some numbers. :) You forgot to add lost mana from violating 5 second rule. So, 345 - 200 = 145 mana benefit. 2 - I played classic wow a bit, were young, and i played warlock at vanilla private servers. Most monsters die by the time all 3 dots end if you wanded at the same time (Althought i try to stack shadow damage instead of mana or health in my gear set, also seek the best wand for your level.). Even with Improved Voidwalker you need to give him time to get some aggro, so "as much damage as possible before battle starts" is probably a bad idea considering that your health is also your mana, and if you aggro the mob, you lose health=mana. NEVER cast shadowbolt in non-emergency, it always always takes aggro besides being huge mana waste. Also, when you try to take 2 targets at once, you interrupt mana regeneration by casting dots and fear, fear on second target often does not last full duration and mob is able to hit you once or twice making you lose your health=mana. And while you are busy with second mob, the dots on the first one are over and it's only half dead because you din't wand it, so you have to put third set of dots on him and violate 5 sec rule again. When firs mob is dead, there will be no way for voidwalker to take aggro from secong feared mob, and you could hardly wand throughout this time because fear wears off or gets interrupted, so you need to reapply dots on second target too. The moral is - it takes about 1.5 time to kill two mobs at once instead of one, and you waste a lot of mana. Just because warlock can take on 3-4 mobs, doesn't mean he should, instead pull back mob with CoA from the crowd and let the voidwalker catch it in midway. 3 - I covered that in second momment.
@Dácio Nunes 1 - You got everything right, just forgot to substract mana that does not regenerate five seconds after you cast Drain Soul (5 second rule). If you cast DS it goes like this: -55 mana, then 5 seconds it does not regenerate, monster is dead, you recieve extra 200% mana regeneration for 10 seconds which is 800, and the total is 745. If you don't cast Drain Soul, it goes like this: You don't cast DS, mana keeps regenerating for five seconds which (200), mana keeps regenerating at 100% 10 seconds after monster is dead (400), and the total is 600. 2 - True, i didn't calculate exp per hour your way, all i know is sometimes i pull extra mob anyway, and that's when i spend my extra mana, but if i try to keep one mob in fear all the time it will aggro a lot more mobs than my comfort zone. I would also disagree that locks don't have big burst damage like mages, even with Salvation they constantly aggro bosses because of their bursts :) , but bursts have nothing to do with fast grinding, burst are good for pvp. If you don't think locks have great burst damage, try stack up on shadow damage gear, break fear with Shadowbolt, Death Coil, Shadowbolt, Shadowburn. Warlocks are monsters in pvp because of their bursts and crowd control like fear and seduction.
A little gnome warlock with red pigtails (don’t judge, I was a 10 year old girl 😆) was my first wow character ever! She kicked some serious horde butt back in the day! :)
Same here, male gnome with the "my head just exploded" hairstyle in white. I loved the flavour of the Warlock and was proud as all hell, as I managed to get my Lvl 60 mount via the quest!
I leveedl to 30 on a vanilla x1 rate server recently and these are my suggested improvement on what was stated in the video: 6:45 Having pet attack bound on a separate key is highly beneficial and you would need x2 keybinds on the same spell/rank if you wanted to cast it on a 2nd mob without making your pet swap target. With the modern peripherals, you should most likely have 2 or more extra buttons on your mouse so I suggest you utilize those to manually send pet to attack. If you pet attacks before you hit your spell then your pet gains additional aggro and you can dps harder without it losing aggro. You are going to want to have a separate keybind for pet attack, trust me. 7:25 As far as pet taunt goes, you are going to want to keep an eye out on your void walkers mana so that it doesn't go oom in situations where you are finishing off a mob with low hp, seeing as there is no chance of you generating more threat than the void at that point (also, humanoid will attempt to flee under 5-10% so taunting will be a complete waste here). > Before you know it you will have learned how many times you need to taunt per enemy for the pet to maintain aggro and you will automatically learn the timer of the CD internally in you mind. My advise is to just do it right from the beginning. 10:40 I was having a discussion with Markymark on reddit about a year ago. It ended in him being right, and this is what we agreed on: Suppression 3/5 and Improved Corruption 2/5 > 5/5 Improved corruption because you gain hit rate, thus saving mana. A fully instant corruption is only good when you are using it last in the rotation before starting to wand down you target, seeing as wand can be activated during global cooldown, which spells can not (this is the definition of GCD). > Having 3 points in suppression means you have 6% hit rate with is the bare minimum hit cap (soft cap I believe); meanwhile your corruption cast time is roughtly the same as your GCD, so you wouldn't loose the entire an entire second standing around, instead you loose .2 seconds for mana sustain. > If you choose 3/5 and 4% hit rate you will have .2 seconds of downtime, this is entirely up to personal preference. I spec 3/5 Supp. & 2/5 Improved Corruption > 2/2 Improved DS > 2/2 Life Tap > 3/5 Improved Corruption -- If you do not have a want, which may very well be the case, try my way =) 17:25 You are going to want to lifetap somewhere in this rotation. Preferable as early as possible due to your warlock armor buff giving you HP5 and your health will max out, which is "a waste of mana" in a sense, because you will throw away a resource that gives you free mana. >You life tap only convert 10 health > mana at rank one so always hit this before wanding or you want once and realize you need to spam it 2-3 times in a row to balance out your two bars. 18:30 Seeing as CoA ramps up damage over time, and mobs might stand closer to other so you want to pull them out a bit so that you voidwalker is not tanking it near other spawns causing you to pull more than you want at this time, Casting CoA first can be very beneficial for more than one reason. Especially if you are a god at maintaining balance between your hp and mana (This would turn into CoA > Immo (Pet Taunt During Cast = sopping it half way to you for your safety) > Corruption > Life Tap 1-2 Times > Wand. > You can now dot a new target and fear if the target isnt humanoid, in which case it will try to flee while CoA is still ramping up; the only risk here is that all your dots fall of at the same time which is the point but if you wand 1-2 times less than you should have you will get aggro and have no dots up when using Drain Soul for mana regen. >> Simply choose where you want to lifetap in your rotation. You will not have to drink more than 3-5 times from level 1 to 15. Use money on spells, not water. 22:20 I agree on this stat prio. I am not certain if the spirit stat is good enough in terms of mana regen, but health regen is a resource you never the less. You will most likely end up spending more globals on life tap. 25:10 The Fel Hunter Quest gives you a 16 slot soul shard bag. No way I am missing out on that. I think this was a great video on warlocks. However, focusing on the lower levels is more important so i do suggest that anyone that is serious about min-maxing as a warlock read my notes above and form their own opinion. I was sceptical on the suppression talent, like A LOT, before I spoke to markymark. My suggestion is going over to his channel and watching his warlock guide as well. He has some great stuff on multiple classes and valid opinions. Lastly my discord is /nfcDHzT if you got any questions /Imbazerg
If you want to know how to Drain Soul and still get the benefits from the talent: /cast Drain Soul(Rank 1) /petfollow Also this Macro will send your pet to a target while mouse over or targeting and if you have NO target you pet will come back to you: /petfollow /petattack [target=mouseover, harm] [harm] /startattack [harm] Works for me :)
Kargoz I love all your videos! So much work put in, so well put together, and fast and concise. I’ve watched so many, and now deciding on class to play for turtle wow I’ve watched a ton of your vids to help visualize how my playthrough and endgame will feel. I’ve played retail and private servers since vanilla and played every class a ton, but I’ve usually been rogue main. Almost wanted to do rogue again but as herb alchemy as I never have done that or gone human, but I also think I should do a least played class like warlock for me, or pally or mage hahaha… hard to decide.
Thanks for guide. Obviously, you spec in ways that is most suitable for your own play style while keeping efficiency. You disagree with not having Imp Corruption maxed out, but it's fine (it's all subjective). There are just not much reason to having instant Corruption at lower lvl besides increased mobility. The lack of spells for rotation at this level mainly = Corruption, Agony, Immolate before wanding. Let's be honest, how fast can you go at lvl15-20 with Instant Corruption vs a 2pt version? The only pros you will get for Instant Corruption vs 2pt Imp Corruption is a lot of "Can't cast that yet" assuming you like spamming buttons like me. Dps wise, there is no difference if it's on a 2spell rotation or a 3spell rotation on up to 3 targets assuming you don't need to"always"be moving. Even if you want to argue that moving = higher efficiency, get it to 3pt and you have a 0.8 cast time. Unless you are anal about every little detail and think this blink of an eye timer is still a pain in the ass. Then I will have to enlighten you on why it is more important to rush Imp VW for early leveling. None of your recommended talents recommend taking Imp VW early and I am very confused since you talk about efficiency. Having stronger Torment from VW = less Torments required to hold aggro = less mana spent while juggling from #1 to #3 (#2, #4 etc = Feared targets). This also means that as you progress and decide to get Shadow/Shadoweave gear, your +dmg will only increase your speed and efficiency but it will have less impact on your VW Torment/mana efficiency. To me, this is the most valuable early talent in the game for Warlock efficiency leveling. Nothing is worth more than this besides the first 2pt of corruption. Also, you didn't mention to manually turn off Torment (assuming most ppl have this on auto, personally I have my Torment on manual cast), so VW can regen mana with 5sec rule, for earlier leveling (This might not come across you because none of your recommended specs run Imp VW during early leveling). This will smooth our your VW mana management and you will have less downtime. With enough Shadow dmg gear, I prioritize SL > Immolate anytime. If you see the value of DeathCoil = Dmg into life, then there is no reason you don't view SL the same. Yes it doesn't have good +spell coefficient, it has high mana cost but with enough +dmg, and if you have up to Shadow Mastery, it is definitely worth using for juggling. Doing dmg but also give sustain, after 4-6 mobs of juggle, it far outweighs Immolate as part of rotation if you want efficiency. (You mentioned getting Shadoweave gear but I also assumed you prio Immolate over SL on Odd(Main) targets during juggling so correct me if I am wrong). Once you know how many torments is needed for each mob before moving your VW to next target, or turn off the torment while it tanks for a few more seconds, you're going to be a true marathon leveler. For Orahill quest, I recommend taking the offhand. You have a chance to get a better staff in ZF when you're 44+ but that Offhand is going to be useful if you can find a good Mainhand later on in the game and the active is useful throughout leveling. These are just my opinions, take it with a grain of salt. I did enjoy the video though. Keep up the good work! Cheers!
tried the macros for recall pet whilst drainsoul is up. Got the error message "a macro script has been blocked...." etc any ideas guys. Great video btw
Dude. I fucking love your channel. I’m going to start using private servers for the first time just to get a taste of vanilla wow since I started mid wrath. I know it’s not exactly the same, but I’m enjoying it more than the current WoW.
What makes me happy is these spec ideas where already in my head reading the talent tree. Feel like I have done good at being a warlock. Can't wait to be able to start classic.
Great guide, but I must mention that using immolate as an opener spell may pull aggro off your VW a lot of times ( especially if taunt is resisted ), I found that throwing instant dots first then immolating to be optimal for letting VW build enough threat. You also didn't mention siphon life's double threat potential as it is considered both a heal and a damage spell thus building twice as much aggro and dotting multiple mobs with it will most likely out threat your VW after a few secs. Finally, I'd never suggest anyone picks improved drain life over fel concentration as the hp gain from the talents are so minimal per point it is barely an increase to drain and most of the time you want to drain you're taking damage ,getting drain interrupted due to spell pushback is the worst thing you can have, practically shaving off half the spell's healing and making it so mana inefficient to chain recast following multiple spell pushbacks, bottom line fel concentration > improved drain life. But overall awesome guide, keep up the good work :)
Typically I'll watch a video at 1.5x.... First time I went for .75x lol. But seriously as someone new to the game this helped my Warlock play a LOT. MORE DOTS MORE DOTS
Hello Kargoz! I like your leveling guides and I think that they are clearly above average considering other vanilla guilde content on TH-cam. I'd like to point out two things about the talent builds you show: 1. I dislike how your kind of brush over the significance of lifetap talent. Lifetap is an ability you very well might use more the once / mob you pull. Some of the builds you show does not go directly into 2/2 lifetap and I have to disagree with that. 7 Points spent into Affliction and 2/2 lifetap aligns perfectly with Lifetap rank 2 that you learn at level 16 - not going for this is highly dubious. 2. This is more of a special case. But on a fresh server, if you level with a Group, you may want to take Supression over Corruption. Due to how overpopulated the starting zones are its a common strategy to go outside of the startzone and defeat higher level mobs as a Group - "raiding" level 16 mobs with a level 12 party etc... If you are leveling on fresh and find yourself ending up in this scenario it is highly viable to get Supression so that your Corruption and Agony actually land.
There is an extensive amount of terminology you seemed to refer to in this video, and I wish it was described so completely fresh players like me can understand. Hopefully someone can answer here in the comments my questions about these terms that I don't understand: -Front load spells -My rotation -Chain pull -First Aid -dots -GCD -Macros?

Why so much focus on private server macros when we know for a fact that Classic will use the modern code?
You'd be better of switching it for current retail macros, since they'll be more accurate.
solid point man..happy to do a v3 when we get conclusive info on how classic will operate :)
Thanks so much for reuploading
Really looking forward to a rogue leveling guide

First time rolling Warlock on the fresh servers. Thanks for the guide and furthermore explaining your decisions!
Many tell the most optimal decisions but few explain why.
Glad I could help!
@@kargozgaming You are replying to a 6 year old guide, respect to you Kargoz. I came to have a look as the new uncapped Classic peaks my interest as Warlocks were always shoehorned into shadowbolt spamming, little bit more variety for doing dps now.
Sir, you're a content machine ! The quality in these is ridiculous, really enjoying them. Thanks man
As a warlock main for years I was thoroughly happy to see you do a warlock guide next. Great job btw! I'd like to add a petmacro to the list:
/script if UnitExists("target") then if a==0 then PetAttack(target) a=1 else if UnitExists("pettarget") and UnitIsUnit("target", "pettarget") then PetFollow("YourNameHere") a=0 else PetAttack(target) end;end; else PetFollow("YourNameHere") a=0 end;
This will make your pet attack whatever target you have.
You are so right! Finally someone who understands :)
Good video!
Yeah, im at lvl 41 now and i cant really life tap and drain life efficiently because if i use more than corruption and curse of agony, my voidwalker can no longer hold aggro :(
Drain build better cuz you will eventualu oit aggro it so i got drain build plus sucvubus
Using wands is such a huge game changer
I love the way you end these videos with just a quiet shot from some zone. Gives it a really nice touch :)
My big takeaway: Agony is like a mortgage. Got it. :)
My god classic WoW needs to come out already.
Private servers exist, dude.
6 months later.... FKKKKK
Aug 26/27th it will be out.
No way, i am happy its coming out in late august. I am taking 2 weeks off work so i can play while the kids are in school and i dont have to dad. its going to be like i am 25 again!!!
@@Joe-ck3ju same, but I have no kids and still living with.... fuck me I'm gonna be that guy 😭 😂
the only thin i would add to these guides is quickly go over the hit chance you would want to get for each class and for each build. other then that best guides ever
That’s a really good point.
Do not skip curse of recklessness!!! If you fear a mob and it's running to aggro mobs you don't want you slap it with CoR and it will come back to you. Then you slap coa back up and it will start getting feared in a new direction..
pro right here
Great in stockades..where mobs flee into the open arms of the next group.
Never played a Warlock and I've been out of the game for years but Classic has pulled me back in.
I'm looking forward to giving Wow another 10 years of my life.
Really though....
This is so fucking epic!! People who really love this era will keep this server alive for years. The way they are releasing the content over the months will really keep the longevity going. Especially since not every guild will have everything on auto farm right away.
Dude, you’ve made an old warlock nostalgic, I appreciate that.
I'm really excited for Vanilla to come. Your amazing guides will blow up. I've been thinking about what class to pick and this has helped me a lot to understand each class. Keep going, you rock. :)
So glad these are back
Love the vids, seriously - great stuff! On the other hand, I'm conflicted. The more I watch, the more I get hyped for the release. But the more I watch, the more I remember, which leeches a bit of the fun of re-discovering things (if that makes any sense) Keep up the great work!
A comprehensive guide to my favorite class by my favorite WoW TH-camr? Sign me up.
However, there are some topics I heavily disagree on and I think are just objective mistakes:
- The petattack macros onto your spells are just straight up lazyness on behalf of the player.
(screenshot: i.gyazo.com/3c9478b1386622257eaf087203c40301.png)
- Again in the talent section when Showing the SM/DS spec picking all abilities that improve pet Mana/Damage/Stamina when speccing into Demonic sacrifice :whut:. Sure, the demonoligy tree is filled with shitty talents at the start and you gotta put em somewhere, but improved fel domination and improved healthstone are pretty much a must, personally also prefer improved imp over extra pet mana for utility in dungeons
- Show SM/Ruin build while levelling while putting points in improved searing pain, 1 minute later: skip training searing pain? I personally prefer Cataclysm talent over the Improved Searing Pain talent as I'm the pussy trying to avoid wpvp while levelling in order to level faster but if you do wpvp I would understand the talents in improved searing pain as it is a really underrated pvp-spell.
- Basically all the spells you suggested to skip are highly usefull, and what are you saving the couple silver for exactly, you get a free freakin mount at lvl 40, there is no reason whatsoever to skip learning spells that are only (very!) usefull situationally and cost a couple silver to learn. I'm talking about:
- Curse of Recklessness - often the one and only MVP in my levelling process, preventing a mob from fleeing and pulling a whole group of additional mobs, this spell is an absolute must if you are going to level somewhat effectively / with more than 3 spells keybound
-Searing Pain: mentioned in the point above
-Rain of Fire: your only AoE spell. Provided, it's not good, that's true. But it's something! even in the deadmines when you're grouping up 10 non-elite miners it provides its usefullness already
-Banish: Seriously now? arguably the best CC in the game. True, only usable situationally but whenever you are able to cast this spell, be it on elementals, be it on an enemy warlock pet this spell will be your MVP all day long. Not training it hurts my eyes
- Enslave Demon: Again a situational, but powerful spell. and guess what: you ARE going to run into demons, potentially stronger than your own pet, or your pet gets killed during combat. Having this on your action bars will save your day and damn, this spell is so fun to use whenever you can it adds so much joy on top of the very situational usefullness
- Curse of Shadow: Why? every mob that takes more than a couple shadow bolts to kill, CoS is already usefull. On top of that, at the pull starting of with a CoS also gives your tank 1 GCD of extra time before you start rolling out the dips, providing more consistent and safer damage especially at the start of fights. (you can also play safe by just waiting a couple seconds at pull, but what is the argument for NOT casting CoS then?)
-Sense Demons: You're not entirely wrong about this one, but I still prefer to learn it as it just occasionally gives away the location of an enemy warlock, and that's yet another fight I can avoid or can get the first jump on my target provided he didn't learn / didn't bother to activate the spell.
- Immolate is never worth the casting time/mana if you have a somewhat decent wand
-Quite a nice wand list, don't have a vast knolwedge of all available wands myself but the stuff I do know I wasn't able to spot any mistake
-Skipping Succ/Felhunter quest.
WARLOCKS IN CLASSIC
Completely braindead in pvp
I've never played a Warlock in my life. But I've decided once Classic comes back around, that's what I'll be doing. >:)
@Ramen Eater That's my second choice. There's always a need for a healer lol
@Ramen Eater lmao dude same i just started. im picking warlock in classic. There were like 10-20 warlocks in elwynn lmao
may your bones rot demon.
This guide is also helpful so thanks for the great work ;)
hey dude id be down to collab on this :) lets talk in discord?
All right, I joined your server I'll try to catch you when you're online ;)
Nice. I leveled my gnome warlock through vanilla with almost the same as his first build. But I never used macros back then...straight hardcore manual mode. Can’t wait to run a lock again.
I appreciate the concise info, a lot in a small amount of time. Very useful for someone who hasn't played a lock much.
Great video. So interesting to see the simplicity yet depth this game had at the beginning. Wish it could go back to this 😆
#soon ...
Yes, locks are a ton of fun, and highly useful for both damage and CC in dungeons/raids.
that achievement wasen't even in vanilla or BC lol.
Same
Agreed. Shift+T works fine for sending the VW to a desired mob.
Mouse scroll up for pet attack and mouse scroll down for pet follow is super easy to use
AsmodeusClips that's a great tip. Thanks!!
Same here
thanks man, havnt played in a decade, helped a lot
lvl 17warlock atm
So cool that you upload 2 or more videos every day! Keep it up! :D
Why did your old guides get pulled?
hey bro thank you for the kind words of support...last guides got pulled in a copyright strike against me ;(
Well that is a shame, I don't see why. Perhaps music? Game guides are like the bread and butter of youtube videos, I can't imagine the grounds on which they put a strike on them.
In any case, I am glad to see you moving forward. I think that this will be a channel I use profusely come Classic 's launch. And I will make sure to send some others along too!
Austin Heller it got copyrighted cuz he had classic footage from pservers and not old footage from official blizz servers
Gotcha, that makes more sense. Thankfully, we won't have to worry about that much longer :D
You have me so hyped for classic. I’ve watched this video twice. Wish I could upvote twice. Awesome video. You sound like you legitimately care about warlocks.
I have played Warlock almost exclusive. A few things that I think should be noted:
PVP: Stuns should be cons or as at least considered as a major weakness.

Hi Kargoz,
thanks a lot for all your guides.
DegenWoW but shouldn't they work well together?
What else would you recommend in combination with a mage?

Your guides are really good man! Feel free to slow down a little bit when speaking, especially when going over the talents. It would make it easier to catch what you're saying! :)
any chance you update this before launch?
For point 3), since you don't put points into Nightfall, what do you spend the 2 extra points on?
@Dácio Nunes
1 - Nice to see a man who actually crunched some numbers.
@@mikek3638 Don't get me wrong, put 2 points in there for pvp emergency, but don't use it for grinding.
@Dácio Nunes If you are wanding after 3 dots, then you will start losing aggro the further you progress in levels, it becomes harder and harder.
Now THIS is a guide. Such a great resource. Well done!!

Simple: We don't. :D
I leveedl to 30 on a vanilla x1 rate server recently and these are my suggested improvement on what was stated in the video:
6:45 Having pet attack bound on a separate key is highly beneficial and you would need x2 keybinds on the same spell/rank if you wanted to cast it on a 2nd mob without making your pet swap target.
& 2/5 Improved Corruption > 2/2 Improved DS > 2/2 Life Tap > 3/5 Improved Corruption -- If you do not have a want, which may very well be the case, try my way =)
17:25 You are going to want to lifetap somewhere in this rotation.
Why doesn't the scripts/macros work?
They didn't work in classic. That's something private servers gave you access for some reason. You'll have to find alternatives.
If you want to know how to Drain Soul and still get the benefits from the talent:

/petfollow
Also this Macro will send your pet to a target while mouse over or targeting and if you have NO target you pet will come back to you:
/petfollow
/petattack [target=mouseover, harm] [harm]
/startattack [harm]

Kargoz I love all your videos! So much work put in, so well put together, and fast and concise. I’ve watched so many, and now deciding on class to play for turtle wow I’ve watched a ton of your vids to help visualize how my playthrough and endgame will feel. I’ve played retail and private servers since vanilla and played every class a ton, but I’ve usually been rogue main. Almost wanted to do rogue again but as herb alchemy as I never have done that or gone human, but I also think I should do a least played class like warlock for me, or pally or mage hahaha… hard to decide.
Warlock is the only class where I’ve consistently been at 20% heath and 20% mana and still going for more pulls.
Cheers!

What makes me happy is these spec ideas where already in my head reading the talent tree. Feel like I have done good at being a warlock. Can't wait to be able to start classic.
Watched both lock guides, would watch two more if you decide to make em 8)
I feel like I'm at a briefing lol
Typically I'll watch a video at 1.5x.... First time I went for .75x lol. But seriously as someone new to the game this helped my Warlock play a LOT. MORE DOTS MORE DOTS
Hello Kargoz!
I like your leveling guides and I think that they are clearly above average considering other vanilla guilde content on TH-cam. I'd like to point out two things about the talent builds you show:
Hopefully someone can answer here in the comments my questions about these terms that I don't understand:
-Front load spells
-My rotation
-Chain pull
-First Aid
-dots
-GCD
-Macros?
