Contrary to what many say Reckoning talent work just as the tooltip says in classic: it gives you extra swings when you take critical hits. It's a very good talent / build and that's what I use for HC. You don't want to use a /sit macro anyway, taking extra damage is just going to increase your downtime.
@@braaapdaps6814 like he said it works as intended and is still a great talent, only issue with prot in vanilla is no taunt so when you dungeon as prot you need your group to let you get a couple tics of conc off before they open up.
Seeing the ppt reminds me like takeing a lecture back on high school or some topics on collegue, I found as leveling a holy pally that divine favor helps a lot to speed the questing expirience. Also holy shock with divine favor helps to pull mobs as if its needed to tank a little like a form to recover some aggro back if you lose it from a mob.
After playing the Classic demo and playing in a ton of group I discovered something. I enjoy healing. Never had any interest before but I guess I judged a book by it's cover. Also turns out that paladin is my favorite healing class... So uhh... yeah see you in classic. Bubble Boy out.
@@goawaygosh Paladin has the most mana efficient single target heal (flash of light), healing the main tank in raids, takes probably 2 weeks until they run out of mana. Also the blessings and auras are nice for the party. Only stupid thing is that blessings last only 5 minutes (except greater blessings 15min). Don't really understand why they can't last 30 mins like most buffs in the game.
I’m one of those players who will take my time and enjoy the game That being said, I really do enjoy all your guides. They are crazy in-depth and detailed! Two weeks ago I watched this video and I didn't understand anything about the skills chain, but I've played it for 2 weeks now and i understand everything. I'm about to be level 32 so I came back here and watched it all over again.
This is nuts. I played paladin in vanilla, and had pretty much settled on warrior for Classic, but now I'm really feeling paladin again because of this video. Interesting info. Thanks.
Per esfand reckoning does not stack and does in fact hit when it procs and resets your swing timer. The stacks only worked on pservers and not on classic.
This is almost correct. While the sit macro no longer working to proc reckoning stacks, if you spam "X" to sit /stand you will sometimes get a good enough rhythm to get reckoning stacks. It is however extremely unreliable.
Thank you! This is an incredible guide, and will make life so much easier. It's funny seeing how, back in the day, very few people had ANY idea that these mechanics/strategies even existed. Can't wait for Classic to launch
As a seasoned Hunter I strongly disagreed with a whole lot of points you made there. But, the sheer effort and information on this Paladin one really balanced the scale as I thoroughly appreciated it and can honestly say I learned quite a lot from its details as I lean towards making a Paladin come Classic. Thank you very much Kargoz!
Kargoz, I fall in love with tanking style in vanilla since I started my warrior on Nostalrius. I wanted so badly to tank and aoe grind as pally, your guide is just PERFECT ! Thank you for all the big work you put into these videos.
As an old old paladin who loved reckoning and tested it to all of its limits in vanilla, engaging in auto attack will attempt to use reckoning, and if you are out of range, (or not facing the target) the reckoning stack gets wasted. Also, the sit thing didn't work either. I haven't played in vanilla beta, but this is 100% how reckoning worked back then. Reckoning was a pretty uncommon thing to see, because it was actually fairly hard to use because you had to be careful not to have auto attack engaged at all. That's why it was so unique, because so few paladins really ran around with it. That being said, one of my favorite moments was solo killing two horde rogues who tried to gank me in un goro when I was level 56 and they were 58 and 60, because reckoning made all those fast crits with their daggers was met with instant 2H damage in the face. Also, I would save my HoJ for the unleash of the reck bomb so there would be no parries or dodges. especially when pvping against rogues/hunters.
What a lot of guys forget is that Vanilla WoW was probably most peoples 1st mmorpg and the competitive mindset of min/making, bis items, knowing the meta mindset etc came from private servers/moba games/online competitive scene of gaming. Having the private server mentality of knowing everything, following a certain pattern will affect the true original vanilla experience. For example now when I play online games be it mmorpgs or mobas I always learn the meta and the competitive side of the game firstly. This mindset didnt exist before because it was all about the unknown, forging your own adventure and learning on the way not knowing everything which created a lot of adventurous memories, the true vanilla experience was before the competitive side of mmorpgs/mobas/online gaming in general came into play or when meta awareness wasn't a thing at all. I'm not saying it is the right way to play because you cant go back in time and reverse and erase memory but the true vanilla experience is not just about "no changes" it is also about the innocence of a child stepping into a world not knowing anything about wow/online gaming/competitive gaming/meta game & stepping into the unknown! Im so freaking hyped for classic cya there guys we're going home! :'-) !

Hey! Love your videos! ST reckoning is actually better if you use the stacks right away -- If you can time your sits between your and the mobs swing timers you'll be doing more dps because you don't miss out on your regular auto attacks. This applies for single target, and it's a bit more complicated to perform. Keep up the good work! :)

It has recently been discovered that the /sit macro for guaranteed reck stacks will NOT work for Classic WoW. Which means that your Paladin class guide should be overhauled or remade.

Wow, fantastic guide, lol. I was a Horde healer Priest for vanilla WoW, and the only experience I had with Alliance was when my raiding guild fell apart a few months before BC came out, I decided to make a Paladin because I had never been Alliance OR played a Paladin. I had also heard rumors that they said Paladins couldn't DPS, so I figured I'd also try to prove them wrong for fun and kill 3 birds with one stone. I loved it so much that I ended up rerolling to a Blood Elf Paladin in BC, lol. But now that classic is coming out, I want to fully try Alliance for once, but also take advantage of strong classes and everything I know now; so I decided on a Human Rogue. On that note I want to see a Rogue guide next 😁.
damn normally when so many videos r uploaded u notice a lack in quality but every single one of these guides r quality im not even gonna play half of these classes but worth a watch anyway lmao
You forget to mention the very biggest con: Once you reach 60, everyone will pushy you towards healing, very forcefully. You can tank, you're still the sub-optimal choice though - So people won't love you for it. Ret only gets available with high end gear, in naxx where you can make use of all your damaging spells(cause everything is undead).
Depend , Dungeon 2 Set is very compatible set to do loads of dps , unfortunately you don't see that in these pservers due to how they manage to dump and destroy Paladins by using wrong Gear Patch versus Paladin Talents/Abilities Patch. 1.9 Is where Paladin Gear gets match with 1.12 Patch and 1.11 Patch is where BiS pre raid Retribution Set (D2) release, 1 patch before the Talents current pservers use. The issue is that Pservers Items value are of no use for Paladins Prot/Ret until they reach the current itemization patch with talents. Otherwise things would have been completely different and Paladin would shine early game Raiding dps. Either way , the pservers suppose to use pre 1.9 Patch talents/abilities for Paladins in order to match the early game progression itemization where SP is not needed and AP is more value , which got changed after 1.9 patch where SP become key stat for best dps as paladin.
Hey Kargoz, I think you might need to add something in about the Reckoninb Bomb, since in the release version of classic (why people most likely be watching this) they actually fixed the reconning bomb (because of the world boss first kill thing). So there is no actuall bomb anymore but rather instantly jumps to your next autoattack. agains casters, this is actually very often a down side and therefore it's not really recommended to bother about reckoning.
Yes, is there an updated video that contains correct reckoning info? I feel like this video says "Pallys are pretty bad until they get reckoning." If the reckoning info is incorrect, where does that leave Pallys?
I think it's definitely worth considering running uldaman for either The Rockpounder or Stoneslayer both of which have a 20% drop chance from Archaedas, and are considerably better than any weapon on the 2h weapon progression list. They're both slow so they increase SoC procs.
I feel dumb for now just realizing how Reckoning worked with the /sit function. That sounds awesome actually, now I want to play Classic WoW when it's released just to take advantage of these mechanic quirks.
Thank you these guides are very helpful but now I'm stuck between rolling a pally with easy leveling, free mount, and best tier 2 & 3 sets in the game... Orrrr a warrior with the most difficult leveling process, high gear dependence BUT with pve tank and pvp dps viability which is huge for me. Damn...
Another well put together guide. If you need any shaman inputs, I recommend reaching to some of the shaman community. It’s one of those classes that a lot of people have been mislead on the best ways to level.
Yea, getting big spirit on my chest is insanely useful when seal swapping to maximise dps (around 30 in dungs) eats mana, or panic healing when the healer is asleep during a boss fight.
Nice overview on how to level a paladin, tho i think you should've included leveling with a holy paladin, because of the extra healing/mana and also makes you viable for dungeons and less RNG than ret while doing the same dmg with imprv SORIght. Also protection/reckoning isnt that viable for leveling, the only benefit you get is more armor and hit rating, so its best to respec to reckoning when you have the levels to put 5 points into the reckoning talent. So best options are Retribution leveling for faster mob grinding and potential world pvp and holy for sustainable leveling, also good for world pvp because of your healing and you'll be occasionally picked up for dungeons more than ret paladins after level 30-40. Reckoning is a decent pvp spec when you have somehting like lightforged armor and so on, getting stacks from meles and bombing priests and casters is a nice feel, but its useless in 1v1s against casters. In my experiance ( i have tried to level as reckoning on a private server, go on kill me ,fait me ) but its not nearly as good as retribution leveling or holy leveling, even a holy paladin with a two hander with imprv SOR does more dmg. And take my advice on this one , level talents in ret untill you get seal of command and 5% crit rest, put into holy for sustain untill you reach the level for conviction, then respec, go full ret and complete your last 15 levels, just so you can get back in holy and grind that rivendare dress. P.S. Reckcounter addon has never worked, will never work, it's useless and trolladins just put it in their guides just so you can download it, see it doesnt work and enrage.
Very nice guide - I LOVE that you brought up the fact that prot pallies are grind MONSTERS - I realized that LATE into vanilla, and am to this day regretful that I did not switch to prot earlier (I switched at like 51ish). One thing you should have mentioned though, Prot pallies are monster grinders against melee, as MOST of their damage does not even come from reckoning, it comes from block damage. Blessing of Sanctuary makes everyone who you block take holy damage, ret aura helps out too, redoubt and shield specialization helps with increasing your chance to block and later on holy shield gives you even more block dps, so mobs just kill themselves against your shield (just cycle seal of light and seal of wisdom as needed for mana and health) - even better if you can get a hold of a shield spike and stick that on your shield. If you pull a couple of casters, not a HUGE deal, LOS them if you can and make sure to target them first (melee's will take care of themselves against your shield), but if it's a group of casters, you're kind of SoL as you have nothing really to use against them.
If you have to deal with a group of casters in grinding, try to find a melee mob that attacks fast to build a stack of Reck and bomb the casters w/2h. You still have bubble, HoJ, and heal spells as well yknow.
Yes it does. But you have to time it so much, only hardcore people can do it consistently. Basically you have to stand up just before the enemy hits you, or during their attack animation. I used the spec for a while, but switched back because it wasn't relaxing at all, something I'm counting on when playing Paladin.
In vanilla, attacking a sitting player did double damage which registered as a crit in the combat log, but did not trigger "on crit" abilities. This is a p-server thing. It means all the /sit macro stuff will be useless if Blizz are consistent.
DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THIS GUIDE if you have come for WoW Classic Paladin advice. The title of this video is misleading, it is not Classic, but rather Vanilla as experienced on private servers. Many of the "tips'n'tricks" detailed in this guide will not work for your Pala in official Classic. Heed this guys waffle at your peril, you have been warned.
“Push the limits of your combat efficiency”. I felt like I just got punched in the face with the best “wake up” advice I ever heard. Well done sir, thank you.
I’m incredibly stoked for Classic WoW. I’ll be honest, most of my early WoW knowledge/memories comes from BC.. but I have nostalgic leveling experiences reaching far back into Vanilla. It sucks that prot paladins weren’t sought after as raid ranks. I’m curious if the amount of information we have these days to maximize a class could offset this a bit?? Thoughts? I’ve played a bit of private server in the past but for Mac it’s a pain in the ass and I’m not in love with the idea of the server shutting down and losing all the work you put into something. Stoked for classic and would love to be a part of whatever team you forge for Classic!
Prot pallies were extremely limited in vanilla, both due to their spell kit as well as the gear available. Very little gear would give +intellect and +defense, so paladins would either be A) Uncrushable from bosses, but have a very small mana pool meaning low threat generation, or B) Have great threat generation with a large mana pool, but have low defense and get crit/crushed by bosses, making them very squishy. It's similar for druid tanks as well, though not nearly as impactful due to armor carrying them further without +defense gear. Paladins also don't have a taunt, so there's that.
Drathamus these are all great points. Thanks for your contribution! I didn’t realize prot didn’t have a taunt yet back then.. that would be a welcomed change. Lol Again, most of my prot experience comes from BC. Mana was still an issue but good use of wisdom seals/judgement was a decent counter
A real great video. Made me feel 13 years younger when I played my vanilla paladin. That being said, I'd never return to that once so incredibly broken class which only became viable in BC. Everything was a sore. We had decent healing when skilled, but where outmatched in every other aspect even with the right spec.
You won't have to since it's a private server quirk that doesn't work in the retail client. You don't get automatically critted when sitting down since that was patched away during vanilla.

So what is best for paladin gnome or goblin engineering.
My favorite class ever, in any expansion
Thanks for the great work on video !
Contrary to what many say Reckoning talent work just as the tooltip says in classic: it gives you extra swings when you take critical hits. It's a very good talent / build and that's what I use for HC.
You don't want to use a /sit macro anyway, taking extra damage is just going to increase your downtime.
Also Reckoning does stacks but this is irrelevant for PvE.
Thank you for this… I don’t know what to believe reading these comments. How’s it going for you? I really want to spec prot.
@@braaapdaps6814 like he said it works as intended and is still a great talent, only issue with prot in vanilla is no taunt so when you dungeon as prot you need your group to let you get a couple tics of conc off before they open up.
really just comes down to you understanding how the spec works and having a group that understands that they need to wait before going crazy.
You are the only youtuber that explains seals Indepth I swear
I started playing on a classic realm because of you Kargoz, thanks for killing my free time
Seeing the ppt reminds me like takeing a lecture back on high school or some topics on collegue, I found as leveling a holy pally that divine favor helps a lot to speed the questing expirience. Also holy shock with divine favor helps to pull mobs as if its needed to tank a little like a form to recover some aggro back if you lose it from a mob.
Going to be honest, I would never, ever, play a Paladin; but god I love anyone that does. Thanks, Bubble Boys. Raids wouldn’t be the same without you.
I really appreciate that you go out of your way to get actual paladins' perspectives.
Wait till you get Lawbringer set and heal and tank the dungeon group at the same time. Edward the Odd yo.
yeah or wait until u can use that full lawbringer set to faceroll loatheb ;)
The heal isn't often enough and it doesn't heal for enough. Also the set is good for healing, but poor for everything else.
I’m one of those players who will take my time and enjoy the game That being said, I really do enjoy all your guides. They are crazy in-depth and detailed! This one made me change my whole perspective on Vanilla Paladins, I always thought they were one of the most boring classes to level because of all the auto-attacking but after watching your guide, I have an urge to level one! 👌👌
Holy tree! Never thought that paladin was so confusing class to play! With all his seals and etc. Man, good job!
LOVE THIS GUIDE. So in depth. Kargoz is making amazing videos
Great 40 mins of pure content to listen while playing bfa before classic launch :D
I only ever play Warrior but I still watch all your guides, really like em' keep it up dude.
I like watching every class guide, even tho I’ll only be leveling one.
I know! Same! I almost wish BC wouldn’t come out for another year to give me time to really max out another classic class!
Thank you! This is an incredible guide, and will make life so much easier. It's funny seeing how, back in the day, very few people had ANY idea that these mechanics/strategies even existed. Can't wait for Classic to launch
Needs a new version, the Reckoning gimmick doesn't work on Classic.
Honestly wish it did though , we need all the help we can get to do actual damage :(
Thanks for letting me know!
So you're saying the Reckoning build works for you?
Excited for the priest guide! :D
THIIIIIIIS!!
Hey man, it's now confirmed that /sit macros do not work in Classic. I know a few other levelling guides of yours relied on them for some specs, are you planning to release some updated guide content?
I wish I had read this before watching a 40min guide :D
Not true, it was confirmed yesterday on stream with esfandtv. It just has to be done at the right time now because of batching.

Am planning on going pally in classic so this'll be extremely helpful, will definitely have the talent and weapon progression open on the side. Really good quality guide!
Inspired me to go back to my 32 Paladin and try the reck bomb build!
kargoz reppin all the pallys out there, super chill dude without you i might not have even considered going aoe build. truly an inspiration
I need a comprehensive druid leveling guide in my life!
best pally guide ive seen, hands down. Thanks a bunch i feel so prepared for classic in 2 weeks!
Reckoning won't work the same in WoW Classic. They fixed it so when you use /sit to get crit it won't count up a reckoning stack
Still works in pvp, but not in pve.
Is this build viable without that?
Excellent guide, well worth the 40m for anyone considering lvling a paladin once classic comes out. I lvld ret/holy, ignored repentance in favor of divine favor. Saved my butt more then once. Gonna do the reck/ret build when classic drops, looks like fun and cant wait.

Am i the only one who watches all the Kargoz guides even if i've already chosen my class?
no. you should learn about the other classes especially if u pvp.

Not for Mage man
Excellent channel and the best Wow streamer IMO. I started playing wow a month before Burning Crusade.. i played up until MoP.... I would come back every time a expansion dropped but never stayed.. the game felt so different.. Classic is fucking awesome. these vids are very helpful as a Paladin
RECK BOMB NO LONGER WORKS WITH SIT SPAM. I just found out the hard way. Had to come back to let others know. Goodluck.
Wow. These are amazing man. Thank you so much for all of your hard work!
Paladins:
-Free lvl 40 and "free" level 60 mount (at 60 the reagents for the quest cost almost as much as the normal training ).
Brings to a raid important auras and buffs+important raid mechanics countering abilities like Divine Shield
-Gods in PvP (they are immune to kiting because of hand of freedom, lay on Hands instantly fully heals you, you have a strong stun and immunity to all damage/effects etc.
-gods at farming undead because of exorcism and holy wrath
-gods at healing in both pve and pvp
The downside is that they are very boring to play as healers.
@@Zwiebel4 Every healer spec can be boring but that depends on the player. Holy is quite op, op specs usually tend NOT to be boring.

Good luck purging that stun and lay on hands, the dyamite + holy lights combo too. In 1on1 fights paladins will have the upper edge if played correctly.
I still have to decide between starting with a paladin or a warlock, the only classes with free mounts. As lock leveling will be faster, but as pala you will easily be invited to a dungeon group because you can heal/tank/dps regardless of spec

I’m going to roll on human paladin and go protection, so excited! Thanks for the guide very detailed and helpful.
These videos are making me happy.
I love these guides, Soo in depth and literally everything you need to know about the class!
It has recently been discovered that the /sit macro for guaranteed reck stacks will NOT work for Classic WoW. Which means that your Paladin class guide should be overhauled or remade.
Was just about to say this
Well, deep ret it is! And i was hoping to reck bomb some guys in stranglethorn 😩
@@Nollaz I am actually pretty surprised this got through all these years. It was pretty widespread knowledge that this effect was patched out from classic and the amount of Reckoning stacks was limited after a video where a dude one shot ever one and everything.
I'm using SotC JotC (30 sec not 10) then activate SoR/JoR that give extra holy DMG getting nearly double dmg from JoR with JotC effect on the target.
bgcvetan doing the same thing just starting out in WoWC, even at low levels the combo can have a hell of a smack to them.
damn normally when so many videos r uploaded u notice a lack in quality but every single one of these guides r quality im not even gonna play half of these classes but worth a watch anyway lmao
Either way , the pservers suppose to use pre 1.9 Patch talents/abilities for Paladins in order to match the early game progression itemization where SP is not needed and AP is more value , which got changed after 1.9 patch where SP become key stat for best dps as paladin.
ret is still weak in high end gear
Good point duki. SInce blizz will go with 1.12 talents from start, it may be a problem for paladins in classic too unfortunately.
Most of the time ret only gets raid spots for Blessing of Kings unfortunately
No, you just have Holy spec for Kings. Ret only gets playtime when using that 2h spellpower proc wep and thats one player.
Well put together guide. Very informational and definitely shows there was a lot of effort put into it. Great job!
They're both slow so they increase SoC procs.
we need an update about the /sit maccro pls ! =)
you cant do it so pala levelling is back to being really slow
I feel dumb for now just realizing how Reckoning worked with the /sit function. That sounds awesome actually, now I want to play Classic WoW when it's released just to take advantage of these mechanic quirks.
I hope that's not the case, I have heard otherwise from others though.
At 7:00... you said 'it' like 7 times LOL idk if that was a rendering problem or not but it was funny. xD
Love the guides man :)
it was 5 times, i slowed down to x0.25 speed and counted
Hahaha its like morty stuttering
Thanks for the helpful tips. I am having fun playing as a Paladin and this video helps me understand how it works.
Damn...
Bro, this guide is awesome! Gets me so hype.
Sit reckoning isn't supposed to work on beta is the prot build still good for leveling?
It'll still be viable but I dont know if itll be faster than straight ret anymore
Another well put together guide. If you need any shaman inputs, I recommend reaching to some of the shaman community. It’s one of those classes that a lot of people have been mislead on the best ways to level.
Kargoz: "Classes that can self heal don't get as much value from spirit"
A bit misleading i'd say.
Yes the paladins guide ! Thx sir
Need to see the rogue guide, sick content
Classic Classic hype! Dual Specs announced for Classic Classic! Palas gonna be super good again!!
/sit no longer works to build stacks so this guide is kind of useless in that sense.

Tipsout claims from the devs that will be no /sit stuff like warriors forcing enrage
Do any of the specs work? I still feel like even if you can't use the /sit macro, you can still benefit from Reck stacks?.... no?
Lol
Again, most of my prot experience comes from BC.
Priest guide next?
The /sit macro looks so annoying, cba doing that for 6-7days played^^
You won't have to since it's a private server quirk that doesn't work in the retail client. You don't get automatically critted when sitting down since that was patched away during vanilla.
Late comment but this was a joy, everything neatly packaged and explained. You also pointed to the deeper levels of efficiency and time management i now see the way more broadly :D....Thanks man!
