    When it’s all said and done You are out there, alone and getting it done in not so fun conditions. That makes you Super Woman in my book.

    You remind me of the hiker that I followed through the Collegiate East turn then one mile later up that hillside I realized I wanted the Collegiate West, ugh! Conversation with you would be just the same, so very interesting!

    What a great adventure. And such great views, and song choices. I made it to Breck last year, and was going to finish this year, but could get a break from work. Stupid jobs! PFT...

    The wildflowers are beautiful. You are winning crappie weather and all. You could be trapped in a office in front of a screen. And you got to see a bull moose up close! The sun will shine again. Safe travels!

    Wow, its been a couple of weeks, I was beginning to think you may have met up with Sasquatch. Beautiful country out there in Colorado.
    The videos are wonderful, and the music's still tasteful. I particularly enjoyed the appearance of Bullwinkle. Keep it coming!

    "i could feel the lightning" i think i read something way back about how the the lightning strike creates an electrical discharge that gradually dissipates with distance so you may be feeling a minor current. I could be talking rubbish but somewhere in the junk info compartment of my brain it makes sense.

    The moose was awesome. So glad you went Collegiate East. My first CT thru I did east my second CT thru I did west. Both are great but I think east is prettier. Tomorrow I will be starting my third CT thru and plan on doing east again when I get to Twin Lakes. Really enjoy the videos, makes me excited to get back out there. Good luck and be careful.

    Don't you love those days on the trail when you feel like you're living a chapter of "The Grapes of Wrath"? Clothes hanging on the bushes, hair hanging in your face. . .Definitely "Type 2" fun. I remember being in northern New Mexico after having set up camp and just watching this big cloud system darken up and start moving right for us. Like, nothing to do but just get under a tarp and assume the position. But the thing just lofted right over us and left. Hit or miss.
    Edit: The moose! Wow, you handled that very well. Plus, you got great shots. Awesome.

    I got caught in a scary lightning storm on the CT last year near the high point (13k feet) and I got rained on pretty much every day in the last section before the Elk Creek drainage where it's all above 12K feet! Gotta love Colorado!

    One other thought. You mentioned your sunscreen making you look a little pasty from the zinc content. I like the Oil of Olay Complete for sensitive skin. It has an SPF of 15 and uses a combination of micro zinc oxide (3%) and Octinoxate (6%) to provide protection (make sure you choose the one that says Sensitive backdropped by a blue line). It's easy to rub in , works as well as any SPF 15 sunscreen can and is a little easier on your skin. In the higher risk areas like the top of my nose, cheeks and ears I add a coating of Cotz brand sunscreen (SPF 58) that uses Titanium Dioxide (10%) and Zinc Oxide (3%) to provide that level of protection. It is tinted a medium flesh skin tone color so that it doesn't look too pasty. It is a little pricey. I like to avoid the chemicals so many less expensive sunscreens have in them. There is also some debate about micro zinc absorption; I'll take my chances. By the way, to my eye anyway, the pasty look you mentioned is not visible in your VLOG. Thanks for the very well filmed and edited vlogs.

    How is your nemo hornet holding up? Is that how your gear got wet? Good luck and safe travels!

    Judging by the scenic shots you showed after your East vs West decision point, I would say there was no bad choice. The moose encounter was a God send. Moose are pretty cautious animals where they are not used to seeing people so you were fortunate to have him pass so close to you. That was a big guy for sure. Did your Nemo tent just not keep the hard rain out or did you have to set up while it was raining?

    • @lazyextremist3119
      @lazyextremist3119  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the Moose was amazing! My Nemo floor is a really big issue - it wets out very quickly. I hope to upgrade it.

    • @wanttogo1958
      @wanttogo1958 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lazyextremist3119 I don't recall which Nemo tent you use but I see at least one they sell uses 15D nylon for the floor rated at 1200 mm. I would never choose a tent with less than 20D nylon and 2200 mm rating for waterproofness in the floor. One way to help mitigate the issue is to use one of the of the emergency blankets cut about 1" smaller on all sides relative to the floor dimensions. They are more durable and a bit more manageable than the popular polycro solution many hikers use. Of course if you find yourself in standing water then no matter what you put underneath to increase the effective hydrostatic head will keep water out. In that situation, one of the Dyneema bathtub floors some of the companies make for tarp style shelters would be your best bet but you would need to use it on the inside. Short of buying a new tent, that's the best solution I can think of for surviving heavy runoff. Good luck.
