Hahaha, love the " hiker trash " reference 🤣... Headed out to do the Collegiate East sections this weekend. Sorry we won't bump into each other - you seem super fun! Thanks for the nice videos😎
You're doing great -- and the views are amazing. Glad you picked the CT, because there seems to be so much visual glory per mile. Keep up the good mileage, and I hope your throat has cleared up.
Nice videography. Looks like the weather has cooperated well enough so far. As far as noise making is concerned, a mini air horn is a useful item for scaring away bears and other animals. It's also a good way to signal for help (whistle works well for the latter purpose too). I carry a mini air horn as a way to discourage pesky bears. They weigh less than two ounces. I use a banging pot sound first and if that doesn't work resort to the horn. So far I've never had to use the horn for bears. Hope you get full use of your voice back soon. Hot lemon honey tea might be helpful when you're in town. Not sure you want to carry honey on the trail (real honey that is; the packets from restaurants are often just karo syrup). Good luck.
I will be starting my hike the end of August with my dog Maggie. Not a fan of the mountain bikers and I am a mountain biker. I am an East Coast hiker and I don’t ride where people hike or hike often. I have hiked on the AT and LT and used the Far Out app and I have always been able to secure a ride because people list their number at the trail heads. I don’t see much of that in Colorado. How did you secure a ride? Since I hike with my dog I don’t hitch. You did a nice job filming your experience. Take care
Thoroughly enjoying your vlog - scenery is beautiful as is your filming thereof and your enthusiasm is infectious. Hope your laryngitis gets better soon 🤞🏻. Keep an eye out for our Canadian friend @trailnamejasper 🇨🇦 (although he might be a few days behind you).
Hey kid, love the videos. Just wondering where you stayed in Fairplay? I'm a two time CT thru-hiker and am looking to start my third here shortly. Good luck on the rest of your hike. It will be awesome.
I definitely would have hitched. But I found the shuttle through the Facebook thru hiker group. There is a group every year I believe (Colorado Trail Thruhikers 2021 or something like that). Just weed through what is important to you because everyone on those groups has an opinion. Also you can email request a list of trail angels information through the CT Foundation: coloradotrail.org/traveling-the-ct/shuttlers-and-angels/
Great video! No reason to ask for patience. Love the relaxed style of your videos. Permission to carry and use a (lightweight) boombox in case of bear encounters is hereby officially granted. You could play some speeches of Orson Welles, every bear will run away fast. Unfortunately you probably never met a woman who used the trail name "Tang" back in 2018. She is crushing with lightning speeds and probably does at least 45 mile days, as she tries to get a new FKT. However it is still possible that you will meet her as she sometimes does yo yo's. I would not be surprised if she simply turns back after having set a new FKT.
A great spirit in the face of adversity!

Excellent summary
I’m so glad you started a new adventure. It’s been a while and your smile has returned. I’ll be on the CT in September
Your excitement over the view was heartwarming.
The honest wonder in your eyes and face is priceless.
New to your channel. Scenery is beautiful
So beautiful.....

Really enjoying watching your trip so far!
First time watching/experiencing the CDT via TH-cam. Thanks for sharing!

I’m sure the dry mountain air probably isn’t helping the laryngitis. You seem happy it’s so good to see you back on the trail.
The dry air and the smoke was not helpful. I tried to sleep by streams for a while to get some moisture.
Great stuff. Glad to find your CT chronicles. What tech hat are you wearing?
It is just a cheap running hat I bought off amazon.
Enjoyed watching the video. The views are amazing 🤩 Hope you get your voice back soon.
You're doing great! 😀👍 Keep going! Doing laundry in your raingear! Typical thru-hiker there! 😀 ATB Kaat
Going in 2 weeks, I can't wait. Question for you: which segment was you favorite?
I hope you have a great trip! Segments 20-23 were my favorite (my videos are terribly behind).
👍

Thank you! I stayed at the Hand Hotel.

Update: She had to abandon her attempt but she did 254 miles in five days. And I am sure she will be back.
I stayed 2 nights in the bivvi hostel with my buddy Pete. Loved that place!
Can we have a gear video?
Yes I will make one after I get all the vlogs up!
Laryngitis, bummer! To yell at a bear you'd have to sign. :)
The bikers are the worst on the CT near Kenosha. Zero trail etiquette.
