This was very well done. I am extremely impressed with the 1940s aesthetic: Font, film grain, music, etc. This is honestly one of the best Lovecraft independent short films that I have seen.
Excellently done. Love the treatment and presentation especially. The Terror-Titles, mind shattering melodrama. The accents is no real issue imo. It adds to it. I want a modern movie now with body horror ( the subject matter is timeless) where a group of clueless content cryptid-clout chasers come acropper and find the legends are all true. Some it becomes the breaking of them, others the remaking of them as they are embraced lovingly within her womb and be come part of her brood. Forever they shall scamper and scour in the Black Woods until it is time to feed up on her teet and slumber dreamlessly and darkly until the next moon.
My first time seeing this. I like the production value and the black and white look. I do like the attempt to use English even if it wasn't the team's first language. However, I think it would have been fine in Spanish too with English subtitles. A good effort overall. 👌👍
Sounds interesting that in Costa Rica is a great number of lovecraft's fans! The ministery of education put some tales as part of the obligatory reading program in the high school!
Great effort, very professional. My only criticism is that the dialogue is often difficult to understand due to the actors heavy accents and music and sound effects being too loud.
Angrypossums X I'm glad that you like it. Yeah, I'm totally agree with your criticism, our accents are strong. Probably I will make another version with english subtitles to solve this issue and everything will be more understandable. Also I will put down music and SFX to the voices are more clear. Thanks for watch it! :)
Neffer Atta Thank you so much! Yeah, the music was get from classic horror films with expired royalties. We didn't had a composer at that time. But now our team is growing up, so we will have new OST for our works. Thank you for watching! Any feedback is welcome! :)
I agree, I did not find the accents to be the real problem. At first, it was a little jarring hearing a bunch of dog-face American soldiers with the thick accents, but after a few minutes you get used to it. I really loved the classic pulp horror/sci-fi music at the beginning and end, as it really added to the style. But I would ditch the music all-together during the film, except in a few moments where the tension reaches a climax. But I enjoyed the film. I would look forward to an updated version.
Nice job all around & the B&W grainy old look is super .. My biggest regret is they should have taken the shot before the execution of the girl which is still better than doing nothing till its way to late & there is as Cosmic Horror goes, nowhere to run. Super job on Subb N. I think i would have at least shot at it till i only had one bullet left & you know what that's for.
This was great. It was like finding a lost episode of the twilight zone (one of the really good kind), which is one of my favorite shows ever. The photography, the story, the mood, everything was great. Great work and thank you.
Although some of the CGI effects just look corny and out of place, and the narrator's accent is just plain weird this has an interesting concept....fuse Lovecraftian horror with the style of a classic WWII movie.

What a great effort! I find the use of b & w filming to add to the ambiance of the subject matter. Thank you for delving into the Mythos and using other beasties than Cthulhu. That's a welcome change. As a VERY long time fan of HPL (I discovered him when I was 12) I'm a senior now; I can tell you that I have seen big budget attempts that failed. And as someone who has also been a production assistant on an indie film; you did a great job. The special effects are different enough as to make this seem otherworldly - especially enjoyed the transformation of the facial features. The murder was a bit chilling since it was accomplished so dispassionately by the cultists and the inertness of the witnesses! I understood that they were in shock, but became angry at them (as soldiers) for not stopping it. Of course, there wouldn't have been a film if she hadn't been sacrificed. Overall, very well done. I look forward to your further interpretation of the Master. And would echo kudos to the school system that incorporates classics in their reading curriculum. To all those willing to provide negative comments - have YOU ever financed, scripted, acted, been the boom man, modulated the sound or created special effects for a film? No, then don't complain.
Thank you so much for your words! It's always a reward the appreciation of a true Lovecraft fan. Also is great to have the understanding of someone that share the experience making a film without very much budget :) Right now we are preparing another works based on Lovecraft works. We'll take a while to complete it tho, we still at the preproduction stage, but we will upload it here when we are done.
@@Rolls3D You are very welcome for my reply. And that's fantastic that you will be tacking HPL's canon; I will certainly look forward to viewing it. Best of luck in the making of it, I hope all goes as planned.
Hmm, I found myself skipping through until the Shub Niggurath appeared, it was... Too many self-made HP Lovecraft adaptations miss the mark; this is another, sorry.
Great cinematography! Really impressive. Great choice of location too - worked great. Good rythm - things kept moving along very well. Great ending, with just the right suggestibility, not too explicit. Less great: the bit where the soldiers just watch the cultists do their deed, while being armed and perfectly able to kill all 6 people. Why? Doesn't really work. The cgi: not good really, and also pretty unnecessary - you could have achieved great effects without it - your technique is good enough for it. The Shub-Niggurath monster was kinda more cute than anything. As a viewer, I couldn't connect to why seeing it should drive a man mad... I would try to rework this sequence, in a darker environment (not broad daylight), putting more of an accent on the soldier's reaction. All round an impressive piece of work🤗👏👏. Did not expect this quality. Thank you!
Thanks a lot, appreciate your review. Yeah some things was done such in a hurry, so the final result was affected. I don´t think we re-edit this shortfilm, but we will work in some other lovecraftian shorts with this style but much refined :)
@@Rolls3D Wow, thanks for your response! I can imagine that producing a whole movie means taking care of A LOT of stuff... Will be looking forward to your other Lovecraft-inspired work.

I'm happy that you like it! :) yeah, about that, the idea of the script was that they was expecting that more germans arrive to the area, but instead they found this strange cult, so they are in shock during the sacrifice, barely believing what they are observing. Maybe that part of the script is not totally well expressed at that point.
It doesn't really matter. The film leaves a lot to imagination anyway. Many people complain about the accents. However, especially in times before WW2, many Europeans escaped to the USA in fear of Franco or the Germans. So it makes sense that US soldiers have a Spanish accent. Others complain about the way you write Subb Niggurath but Lovecraft's work is always subject to change and people who continue to tell stories in his universe may use and change names freely. I also like the music, I don't think the spirit of the film will remain the same with an original score.
