    Pickman Model was very amusing--I couldn't help but think of an unhinged Bob Ross, talking quietly about "happy little eldritch abominations." "Now this Shoggoth over here is lonely, so we'll give him a friend here. And we'll have him gruesomely eviscerating an Elder Thing!"

    Every single of these short stories do a better job a conveying Cosmic Horror than most of Hollywood movies.
    Given the short amount of time they have to set up the atmosphere, the characters and the genesis of their respective in-movie Univers, it's incredible !

      @Esper54 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@focidhomophobicii2426 It's not really that 99% will scream for a refund or that only a nerd will scare. Cosmic horror has a lot of themes from other horrors as well such as body horror or psychological. So definitely people will be scared. The problem is it will sell less. Because people aren't as interested in it. That's why they don't really produce them. Annihilation is a perfect example. Great movie but did horribly. Just because there's less of an audience for this kinda stuff.

      Then the film maker did a great job. That's kind of the point of cosmic horror, it's unknowable. If it were it would'nt be half as scary or mysterious.
      They basically found an ancient mask from an ancient cult of some sort that is related to the abomination that wanted to get free. It then somehow tricked them into releasing it by becoming Not-Saidie. And what the dead guy is, i don't know and i love it. Same for the key.

      @CNNBlackmailSupport ปีที่แล้ว +25

      @chernozem7335 Here is what I got. Two entities were fighting for that mask, the protector had the key, which was like protection from the evil entity. The mask is some form of Cosmic power that summons outer gods. The entity using the mask is Nyalrthotep, as far as bad guys go, you'd be hard pressed to find worse in any universe that exists.
      No idea what the mask and key actually are, but that seems to be their function.
      Evilguy murdered and replaced the friend, attacked the guardian key holder to make him mostly incoherent, and probably influenced his death by extinguisher. (Does that make it a Fire AND Life extinguisher?)
      At the end, everyone was basically paralyzed, but the key that would protect them stopped just short of where it could be reached. Kind of a "cruel twist of fate" thing, or Maybe the dead guardian was only mostly dead and spitting the key out was all it could do.
      Unanswered questions/Don't know why:
      -It was frozen
      -It had the key
      -It couldn't talk
      -It looked like an Irish dude with British teeth, but was guarding this mask in Nepal
      -Why someone would have made the mask 900 years ago and given it that much power
      -Why the opposite to the Clay, hair, and inlaid silver Nepalise tribal mask (featuring the o.O emoji eyes and probably yak hair) would be a filigree, baroque era, liquor cabinet key and chain straight out of Louis XIII's Versaille palace.
      -What the green comet actually was
      -The Mask's purpose
      -How the Key would interact with the Mask
      -Why they didn't seem to want to listen to the only guy who seemed to have an idea of what was going on, based on the questions he asked.
      -Why they all acted like Anime characters watching their enemy go through an elaborate and time consuming power up ritual. (Maybe you can chalk it up to a sanity destroying fear aura that eldrich monsters all seem to have, but that's not very satisfying.)
      -Why the panicked guy was even there when they ignored all his questions and suggestions. (Crew based stories usually give each crew member a distinct expertise or ability. Scully uses rationality and hard evidence, Mulder uses an open mind and thinks outside of the box, for example)
      Disclaimer: I could be wrong about almost everything. It's way too vague and mysterious about too many things to be certain. Your brain is functioning properly. It's not you, its them.

Lovecraft society made a black and white silent movie one that were about an hour long, and it is awesome! It captured the dread perfectly, and i loved The void. Other writers had no problem writing longer stories in the Lovecraft world - much to his delight. It might have something to do with so many bad movies, but i feel it is not 100% correct. I suspect that it might be hard too finance a movie without a good fight scene with the "big bad" at the end of the movie, and as we all know, fighting "the old ones" always end badly for humans. I played the Lovecraftian Sherlock Holmes game, and it was awesome, for 8 hours gametime - so time might not always be a problem ?

      Usually short films are made to compete in film festivals. Sometimes they are made to try to get funding from big companies or the Public. Rarely are they made just for TH-cam....not this quality!
      Probably film festivals.

    For a moment I thought in the first episode that the creature was the star faced creature(s) from "At the Mountains of Madness" and the Plateau of Leng! Wait was that suppose to be the Mad Arab (Abdul Alhazred) in the Eldritch Code?
    Damn the thrill factor already tops 99% of most horror films released so far. The drop into instant thrill and mystique type horror!!! I love this kind of horror.
