Hi Mark. Getting down to the allotment it good for the soul, especially when you set it up with a drink and something to eat. Temperature has definitely plummeted now. I'm chasing a rat or Vole around the gardens. I think that carrot came from somewhere else. Don't forget about the flooding issue you have next to the grass, if you're planning a flower bed. I put in obelisks this year and have got them in the greenhouse. They stand a better chance of surviving another season. Stay warm. Elaine 🌱🌱

@marksallotmentplot You need a great wall to keep out the water (just being funny lol). We have a watercourse going through our plot. We built raised beds instead. The critters is crafty. It can extract the bait without setting the traps off. A bit like Mission Impossible laugh. Minus 3 this morning 🥶😁👍

We apparently have a Houdini rat 🐀, he was almost fully in the trap,the door started closing and he got out 🤦♀️. But we keep trying and even though we won’t ever get rid of all of them we have to try because they get in the nine bays and chew wires 🤬🤬. Keep warm Mark have a great week, Ali ☔️☔️🇨🇦
Completely agree with your theory that what we do now will make our future selves much happier! Found out today rats hate coffee grounds. Considering a female rat can have up to 20 babies - every month it's worth getting something to keep them away! Nice to see someone doing the same jobs that I'm at on my plot further north!
Its tough motivating yourself to get out in the not so nice weather but so worth it when the spring/summer comes along. 👍🌱👍 I'll definitely be stocking up on the coffee grounds if they help keep those pesky rats away! 🐀🐀🐀

I've got some Sweet Candle carrots seeds to try next year following your recommendatios Mark, so looking forward to growing them! Have to protect them from the rats though, the little buggers had half my crop this year so I had to pull them all early! 🤬
Good luck with the Sweet Candle carrots 😊. I'm now feeling the pressure of recommending them 😂 The rats are a complete pain and so hard to defend against. They can get pretty much anywhere they fancy. I think harvesting early is definitely the way to do it 👍🌱👍

The rats have got in my greenhouse so tomorrow I'm chopping up chillies to scatter around also put some aluminum sheets around today I washed it down with some disinfectant and washing up liquid happy gardening Richardx
I got most of my beds cleaned up still got some carrots in 2 beds and leeks in another lifted half my leeks and same with carrots thay are all chopped up and bagged and in the freezer and I built a new raised bed 4m by 900 mm started to get it filled bit lucky my plot is in a old walled garden so don't have a rat problem still got 1 raised bed to replace before spring so I'm well ahead of my self another good vidio mark
With a bit of luck Kenny, I'll get back this weekend to get some more tidying and prep work done. That sounds like a great new bed you've got on the go there. Some size as well. 👍🌱👍
I've lost all my leeks, Mark. Demolished by caterpillars. It's definitely not from butterflies, but I do know there's a leek moth caterpillar. I googled it. Not a single one was edible
