Hi Mark, I understand the worry as none of you were informed of the process. The poor staff too. I do hope you will all find out soon whats happening and it will be ok. Our is Council run and about 6 years ago they tried to sell off the land for housing. But, the person who actually owner the kand bequested it to be uses as allotment. So we fought it and won. What I'm trying to say is, when you do know what happening, you all need to get together and deviseca plant to convince the new owner how important it is to keep the site for the local community, stipulating the benefits to everyone to continue with a good relationship with the garden centre for many years to come. Good luck, thanks for sharing and take care 😊

Have known Colin fir many years. Saw him start wi a wee cottage in Mugdock Park then build it tae a realy great little chain. really doubt he would consider, he's very community minded. He bought our local Dobbies in Cumbernauld. Ah know developers hae been wanting it. In fact they've been trying tae develop sites aroon the centre. But Colin has developed the centre intae a destination garden centre like all Caulders sites instead o the quick buck. He has allowed another friend of mine tae site his Fish van there when he wis evicted by his last landlord. Is a big advocate o local businesses.
Really think ye hae nothing tae worry aboot. But think ye should talk tae Colin before speculation on whit the plans are

I would think they should keep the allotments going. Not only would they lose you as customers, but the bad press would likely affect their sales for years around the whole area. Fingers crossed for all of you.

Keeping my fingers crossed, Mark, they do keep the allotment plots going. I would expect the buyers to be in touch quickly so people know where they stand.
We grow in our back garden, so we don't have to worry.
We have a polytunnel which is new this year plus a greenhouse and some raised beds. The only issue we've had is keeping our dogs away. One thinks he's a farmer. He's pulled up onions, eaten a cucumber plant, and yesterday pulled off some tomatoes that we had outside. It's all a learning process 😅

Mark, hopefully there’s no change to your allotment. We don’t have allotments in Southern California, but when I place like your allotment sells the next day the developer would be building townhouses. Best of Luck ❤.

Really hope they keep the allotments and tupe the staff over to the new owners. Jobs are scares enough in your area already. It must bring them a fair bit of coin from plot charges and plot holders like yourself buying plants and compost etc. all the best mark.

We don’t have allotments in Canada 🇨🇦 because land is just too stupid expensive here especially around “cities”. But I know lots of people in the UK are having notice that allotments are being taken back 😢😢 for housing developments. Sadly as in all things money talks. Hope it isn’t all bad news though keep us in the loop, Ali 🇨🇦

Oh gosh what a worry. I o hope all will be ok. Can you not write to the new owners and ask them if the plots are to remain as is? That might enable you to plan what you are going to do. happy gardening 🙂

Here in America, housing development is always a threat. If it comes to that, I hope all your fellow allotment holders pull together to stick up for yourselves.

This seems like something kept secret from the staff and allotmenteers for a reason Mark so has the Garden centre been approached by a rep from the allotment about it this? Is there a meeting planned? Really sad and naturally a very worrying situation to find yourself in though. Hope something is announced soon so your worry will be alleviated. It’s awful. Completely understand your pain re this, .

There's no planning applications in for the site, they'd have to keep it agricultural either way, you're all probably sitting tennents depending on your rental agreement, probably no change Mark.

Please let the new owners be good to this channel and maybe get the odd video advert in return. Have to say closing the allotment of a successful growing channel will do wonders for the garden centre so I feel as though it would be like commercial suicide for them. Good luck surely they will see sense

Absolutely no need to apologise Mark. It is a very real threat to your and many others hobby. Can you speak to your local councillors as they may be able to help? Just a thought. Hope you get it sorted okay. Haydn
