If your cabinets are 15” deep you probably needed the equivalent of a bump out kit, which you made here. Lots of over the range microwaves are designed for 12” deep cabinets. I was able to find a cheap bump out kit online, but considered something similar to your method. You need the door clearance but also need to be sure the exhaust vents go past the cabinet edge.

That is good to know. I was not aware that most microwaves are designed for 12 “ cabinets. That explains my struggle lol. I’m glad you joined the community and are able to share this information for the rest of the folks we are helping tackle there DIY projects.

I wish I'd seen this before I put my microwave up. I ran into the same problem. But in my case, it was fine at first; plenty of clearance to the cabinet walls. I didn't see a problem until I put the doors on. My solution was similar to yours.

my problem is the microwave's angle alignment is off. The cabinet installer put the microwave back, I'm trying to figure out what exactly the problem is.

First check if the cabinet is level you can do that from the inside. It’s possible that your cabinet was installed not leave. If that’s ok then you will have to check the back bracket that holds the microwave to make sure that is level and the last is to make sure that if the cabinet is level the microwave is flush with the cabinet. It’s hard to diagnose these in comment sections with out seeing the issue. If you want further help send me some pics to my email DIYwithMAX@gmail.com

I just ran into the same problem with a Samsung microwave. Your solution is great! I'm not sure if I want the microwave to stick out that much. What's the microwave brand that you show at 5:19 that doesn't swing the door out that much?

It’s a GE model jvm1750sm1ss it’s about 12 years old so you may have a hard time finding it. But you can certainly check for that at the store when you’re shopping for a new one. It actually does not stick out that far in my opinion. Plus only you will notice it most people would just assume it’s how it’s supposed to be lol

Our problem is that it's right next to a Refrigerator space, so instead of 12", the cabinet wall for the fridge space (which is on the left/hinge side of the microwave) extends out 2.5', so a simple bump out will not fix it. What do you recommend in a situation like that? Find a slightly smaller microwave, maybe?

You may just have to find a microwave with flat hinge. Email me some pictures of the space to DIYwithMax@gmail.com. I’m always happy to help.
