    I have this, I've had OLED (LG CX 4K 120hz), I also have a secondary IPS. The XL2566K is my favorite purchase out of all my monitors. It is just soooo good for Overwatch and CoD!! Like damn!!

    • @RafaelSilva-yv3oh
      @RafaelSilva-yv3oh 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @egttn obviously not. But the higher refresh rate combined with DyAC for the motion clarity is insane for shooters. It "feels" so good and smooth. Been a year now since owning it and still my favorite. But if I was only playing single player non competitive games then no, I would go with the OLED.

    The thing I really like to compare the 2566k to is playing on a CRT monitor. Even a 100hz CRT has far better motion clarity than a 240hz LCD. This benq actually comes close to a CRT. Even in terms of input lag. Not quite as good, mind you, but so damn close it's like I have my old nuclear warhead of a monitor back.

    Main issue is that horrendous matte coating, I've removed the ag coating on my xl2546 and much much happier, I always felt like I could never find the right picture settings before, but now it's great for a tn, definitely not on par with my lg g2, but nothing is more important than motion clarity for me, hence this thing is staying on my desk for now, as it has the past 4 years.
    I love that DyAc works perfectly all the way down to 100hz for those harder to run games. The key with any of these strobing tech is matching the refresh rate to your frame rate. Setting it to 100hz is as good with motion blur as 200hz (minus the obvious frame rate difference). 4k 120hz oled is terrible compared to DyAc at 100hz.
    Seriously, try it with scanline sync at any refresh you can match with a frame rate! (RivaTuner)

    Bijan in past monitor reivews you often showed a picture of how OD/BFI performed on lower framerates such as 60 or 120Hz. Or you mentioned if a monitor can even do it on a lower refresh rates. Would it be possible to do that in the future again? You are the only Tech YT channel who did that. And for those who sometimes play raytracing games or on consoles, which both means 60-120Hz, these information are extremly valuable! I only bought my XL2546K after your review video confirmed how well its OD/BFI works on sub-240Hz refresh rates! :)

    Black frame insertion (bfi) and backlight strobing (bls) aim to accomplish the same thing but they're different
    BFI is for panels like OLED that don't have a backlight so it inserts a black frame. BLS is for LCDs which do a have a backlight that they turn on and off for the same affect. Again they do the same thing but differently due to the difference in display technologies

  • @gt9478
    @gt9478 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    personally tried both the LG OLED and the PG27AQN, pretty sure the 360Hz 1440P panel is superior to the OLED in terms of image smoothness. The response times seem to be at a point of diminishing returns and most reviewers seem to be overhyping the low response times on these OLEDs without actually trying out the 360hz panels (new - pg27aqn/xl2566k and old - acer nitro)
    TLDR: 360Hz > 240Hz (+OLED response times) in esports games

    • @MyouKyuubi
      @MyouKyuubi ปีที่แล้ว +2

      360hz panel in backlight strobing mode is actually 180hz, every other frame is black, so the FPS is HALVED, but the frames still occur over the same period of time, so the time between VISIBLE frames is literally DOUBLED... That's why the image is clearer, and why you even give a fck about 360 hz monitors to begin with... This tech exists precisely because LCD pixel response times are too slow to produce a clearer image after a certain FPS threshold.
      OLED does not have this problem, especially not these new 240 hz oled panels coming out, as they have like 1-2/3rd's the response time of Alienware's QD-OLED (For some reason the alienware has an absurdly long pixel response time, for an oled, but it still floors LCD pixel response times, easily), that's why they don't come with strobing tech, because they don't NEED it. :P
      So you can have fun with your 180hz esports monitor with an eternity of time in between each visible frame, to produce clarity, and absolutely fking TERRIBLE color presentation! I will happily enjoy my OLED panel with perfect 240 hz clarity, and orgasmic color presentation. xD
      Trying out monitors is one thing buddy, but if you don't do the math, don't do the proper analysis, your testing is wasted effort.
      An LCD panel, can NEVER defeat an OLED panel in terms of gaming performance, buddy... And if you're under the impression they can, that means you're missing/overlooking some crucial details.

    • @gt9478
      @gt9478 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MyouKyuubi Sorry you might have misread the monitors in question- i m not talking about any strobing 360hz here. I guess its kinda off topic since i m talking about a different monitor altogether.
      This is the new 1440p fast IPS panel from ASUS (PG27AQN).. I have both the 27GR95QE-B and the PG27AQN.
      Side by side, its very evident that the 360Hz is still superior in terms of motion smoothness.
      At this point, I can't tell if you are being objective anymore or just simply hating.
      *To add to this, there needs to be more documenting or talk about how refresh rate works alongside response time. Such as, if there is really indeed a point of diminishing returns on response time beyond a certain extent. And to add more to this, if OLED is truly the end all of monitor technology, someone needs to explain why upcoming 500Hz panels are even a thing at this point... LOL .. I said ESports games btw, not simply the broader spectrum of 'gaming performance' that you are on and about.

    • @MyouKyuubi
      @MyouKyuubi ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gt9478 Fair enough.
      "Side by side, its very evident that the 360Hz is still superior in terms of motion smoothness."
      Well no, it isn't, pixel response times just make the movement smudgey, not smooth... It's like having motion-blur on.
      The monitor itself may respond at 360 hz, but the pixels, do not... TN panel type pixels can't really keep up above like 240 fps or so, and that's as fast as LCD pixels get.
      "if OLED is truly the end all of monitor technology"
      It's not, it's the second-best, after MicroLED technology, which hasn't really developed enough to produce monitors yet.
      It's basically the same principle as OLED, except, not organic, so it doesn't suffer from burn-in like OLED does, and also has faster pixel response times, because of their non-organic nature.
      "someone needs to explain why upcoming 500Hz panels are even a thing at this point."
      They do, lmao, i mean a 500 hz OLED would make sense, but LCD panels? Someone needs to explain that shit, 'cus it makes no sense, lol... Due to pixel response times not being able to keep up, increasing the refresh rate beyond what the pixels can handle, wont have any clear effect, due to the smudging of the low pixel response time... So 500 hz is literally just overkill for LCD monitors.

    • @gt9478
      @gt9478 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MyouKyuubi brings me back to my point - I really think more reviewers and tech journalist should document more on the refresh rate’s response time compliance. From what I m experiencing right now - I can confidently say the asus pg27aqn is faster as an overall experience especially in games like overwatch / valorant / apex - provided you can run them at frame rates way above 300++
      Would this be an issue with refresh rate compliance? Both monitors are compliant and as such are only held by its refresh rate, and in this case - I think the one with higher refresh rates win.
      As you mentioned: monitor does respond at 360hz but pixels might not- but here, i think it’s a question of refresh rate compliance- if it’s good enough - it works. And any lower might net diminishing returns.
      I.e. 240hz 0.1ms oleds are definitely compliant (infact, overkill at 240hz) .. they are even suitable for way higher refresh rates if the panel can handle it
      If there was a 360hz oled then yes it’s definitely gonna beat out all and even the fastest 360hz ips . But as of , the 240hz is indeed holding the lg oled back
      The previous generation of ips panels were a pack of panels that aren’t compliant and generally a blurry mess.

    • @MyouKyuubi
      @MyouKyuubi ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gt9478 I mean for gaming, specifically esports, 360 hz is overkill, 240hz is slowly becoming the new 60 hz default now, as in terms of FPS, we've already reached beyond the point of diminishing returns in terms of how FPS affects competitive performance.
      You don't need higher refresh rates than 240 hz, it's superflous after that point, if not superflous BEFORE that point even, so 360hz isn't going have a significant impact on your performance, if any at all... Though it does FEEL nice. xD
      The difference between 240hz and 360 hz is so miniscule that it doesn't really matter.
      So this is really just luxury territory, if we're to be completely honest with ourselves.
      What TRULY holds the LG OLED back, is the fact that it's a WOLED panel... Big Sadge. xD

    Small point of critique: ( the rest is very good new info) You forgot to mention that the biggest difference between the ACER 390hz and the Zowie is that the ACER 390hz gets dark when VRB/ULMB is enabled on high. The BFI is like 140 then. what makes the monitor unplayable compared to the Zowie monitors. ( VRB/ULMB off/low/medium is incomparable to dyac on.)

    • @tcc1234
      @tcc1234 ปีที่แล้ว

      "unplayable" would be an overstatement and completely environment dependent.
      Do you game only during the 10 AM to 5 PM time when sunlight is at full blast? You could always stick an opaque/translucent sheet (or even paper) on your window to block some of the sunlight or use better window blinds when gaming. The biggest advantage you get with this monitor is that it is an IPS panel (much more natural colors, viewing angles, etc) at such a high refresh rate (as well as decent response time) not to mention the acer nitro is much much cheaper for the extreme performance and quality it provides (vs ANY other 360hz monitor)

I haven't really found anything that's good for competitive gaming AND other stuff, at this point even a decent 240hz IPS monitor would do. Or I'll just get a Zowie...

    I'm a motion clarity enthusiast but its important to note that Zowie isn't the best for EVERY shooter but rather most. Specifically battle royale's. 1080p 24in is too low of a resolution, distant targets are incredibly small and unclear. A 1440p monitor is ideal for BRs

    Hi Jamshidi, just discovered your channel (through a reddit recommendation) and consider buying the Acer Nitro 390hz (thanks to your review about it).
    If i understand you correctly, you saying for competitive purpose the 360hz zowei beats the 390hz acer? But overall the acer 390hz is better since it is cheaper and has ips-panel? I already have an 27" widescreen monitor-ips (60hz) LG and an old 24" (120herz) Benq, but i would like to upgrade my main monitor (using 3 monitors instead of 2). So i guess, 390hz acer is the way to go? Or am i mistaken? (i am not an aspiring pro gamer, but when i do play fps, or games in general, i am very competitiv). Thanks in advance. Edit: I think I go with the Acer nitro, it is overall better 😅

    What’s your take on the new LG 27” Oled?

  • @Aomicplane
    @Aomicplane ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The price of the monitor is absolutely baffling, and not in a good way. Previously whenever a succesor to a ZOWIE monitor came out, it got the same price as it's predecessor which in their turn got discounted. For example In it's 24.5" line of esport monitors, this happened to the XL2540, XL2546, XL2546S and XL2546K. All were priced new around €500. Now this new model suddenly costs €700?! That's a massive increase, especially since €500 is already a big premium for a 1080P TN panel. Sorry but that price is just insane... Sure, Esport pro's will have no trouble paying this up, but just regular competitive gamers, especially in the current economical situation?? Common man...
    And that's not even taking into account we will probably see even higher refresh rates coming out over the coming years...

    • @Aomicplane
      @Aomicplane ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Just to clarify a little bit more, you can buy a 24.5" 1080P 60Hz TN panel for around €100. That means you were paying Benq €400 more for a premium high refresh rate panel + all the ZOWIE goodies that makes the monitor so good. In my opinion, that was reasonable since they do make the best esports monitors as of yet. But €600 more??? That's just insane and starts to feel like Benq bleeding Esport gamers out of money because they can...

    so how would you say it compares to its predecessor in the xl2546k, tourneys are still running 240hz afaik besides maybe blast and esl which prob upgraded. Seeing the price of this, it wouldnt make sense from a competitors stand point to buy it for home, only to have to use 240hz at lan. Is it extra 120hz really that noticeable when weve come to the point of diminishing returns.

    • @BijanJamshidi
      @BijanJamshidi  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's definitely noticeable compared to 240Hz for me and I would definitely get it over the older 2546K. Not everyone can notice the difference, just like some people can't tell the difference between 60 and 120Hz. So you may or may not notice the difference.
