This has to be a warning sign for the overall financial security of the American public. Like you're 100% right that most of these are signs of bad decisions...that our society has normalized. Maybe Co-Part ought to start charging Lot Rent after the vehicle goes through so many auctions that are refused by the banks. If the banks had to pay lot rent those cars would not sit for very long...
I always used a mechanics stethiscope I carried in my auction stuff. I am sure you probably have one but you would look good under the hood of these cars using one. In the old days when I was buying tons of cars the stethiscope found what most people thought was rods knocking , to be fuel pumps , clutch fans, and many things that cost much less than fixing rod bearings.
Well Randy, I know here in New York the banks will sell your repoed vehicle and whatever the balance is left the consumer is on the hook for it + if you own your own home or have anything like that they can attach it for the remainder of what is owed
@@billstreber5194 Makes sense. I currently live in Canada and banks are taking a big hit. I just lost an auction bid on a mint 2023 BMW 900 motorcycle still under warranty. Bank loaned 14k and let it go for 7 300$ at auction. Crazy.
The cars themselves are part of the problem. Something made in the last 5 years is so low quality and disposable that it gets economically totaled when one major repair is needed. People are allowing repos to take place because hey are wising up to this fact and really do not care if the car is taken after it has given them trouble. If you had vehicles like the 90s Toyota Tacoma or even a Camry made before 2002, then people would make cuts in other areas of spending to keep the car.
I hate how some of these newer cars don't come with a spare. That should be a given. My grandma has a 2010 Malibu which came with the inflator in place of the spare.
yesterday at auction there was a repo 2001 pt cruiser that probably had about 10k of custom work done on it. Paint, interior, engine, custom body, etc. It sold for 550$!!!!! runs and drives too! (only thing I notice was air bag light on, that's it)
Unless it is a early default the banks aren’t the ones taking the “L” here as they package up these loans and securitize them to other investors (think of the movie “The Big Short” and make it car loans rather than home loans). Also, I have zero sympathy for Santander as they are the largest sub-prime lender and are making up any losses but what they are making on the high interest performing loans.
Forty five minutes well spent. You are absolutely correct about where the end of the repossession trail leads but you know that. Great video as always. Thank you.
Back in the late 80s, me and my buddy went to the dealer for a Nissan stanza. He needed a car for his mother-in-law.. while we were there, a salesman with a customer on the showroom floor. We’re ready to box it out for the price of a Nissan hardbody.. The guy wanted a deal., and the salesman or sales manager wasn’t budging. And literally, they were screaming at each other on the showroom floor with their fist in the air ready to duke it out . Now that was negotiating over the cost of a vehicle. Today people just sign their life away. Bizarre.
IDK about the MB year but on my 11 you can reset the head rest if parts didn't break. The 3.0 and 3.5 are same block. I've heard about the balancing but never had an issue with the 3.0. It's been fairly reliable for a benz
Regarding loans, I understand where you're coming from when it comes to personal responsibility, but don't go excusing the banks too. Making bad loans is what caused the 2009 crash: the employees chasing commission over due diligence in reviewing applications properly, the corporate belief in never-ending profit, it all adds up.
@@YenRug its easier to attack a person than a company, even in personal beliefs. people are taking the easy route and outputing as much hate as their life is shit. If all this energy was redirected to companies maybe we would have some control.
Hey randy. I was watching some weather forecast and I saw that Oklahoma could be getting some hail. I immediately thought of your channel and all of the hail damaged cars you deal with. I hope that it doesn't hit the auction car lots and cause damage where there previously wasnt.
About that Infinity through Credit Acceptance, they give you a powertrain warrenty with every vehicle that handles repairs so for that vehicle to end up there like that you were right to walk away
you are so right, the person that signed the contract. All they saw was hey i can make so much payment right now, who care about tomorrow. They can just take it back. Banks should have subtracted the markup and gone we loan x. dealer well goes back to buyer no not paying that, but look we got your payment amount
The blown headrests in the Merc could be because someone was messing around with the electrics in the back, that you spotted, might have accidentally triggered the rear collision sensor.

So is that why they don't allow code readers because they want most of those cars to sell and if people hooked those cars up to code readers and saw all the problems wrong with the cars they wouldn't buy them.
Could also do a lot more scandalous stuff, people could make extra sets of keys, do whatever was said " simple " code scanner and someone's coming in with a full screen pad

Hello Randy. The Repo lot there at Copart has gotten large. The banks are losing money on the cars and trucks. A lot of people have also lost their jobs too.
