Hey, Randy! I drive for my state’s transit company. That fast idle system is like what a PTO on a Tow truck would be. When engaged, the idle is held at a higher rpm speed to operate the hydraulic system of the wheelchair lift.
Your emergency release on that passenger door is cammed open. They're a snot to get em latched back in. I always grabbed the doors and just kind of rocked them back and forth while I'm camming that latch towards the back of the bus. That lever tends to fight you. Depends on how some of them are wired up but the passenger and chairlift doors can lock out the shift lever.
The door emergency handle will be hard to move. Close the doors and rotate the handle back to the right. As for the wheelchair lift the vehicle has to be in park with the park brake applied. Then push the button and the power should go back to the lift. It is a safety lockout system to insure that all the steps are done properly. I used to drive one of those vans for 9 years.
I been eyeing that bus since you got it, if i lived in the area i would buy that from you and do van life in it, that would be a great camper. I love the size, not too big, not too small, just hits the sweet spot.
Intermittent oil pressure gauge means the sensor is fine. Loose connection, broken wire, intermittent ground, or a bad solder joint on the PC board behind the cluster. But I'm more than happy to watch you change the sensor 🙃
Looks like a decent little bus. You could check the brake light switch, often times on Fords the switch can intermittently fail and cause the shift interlock to stay locked, preventing the shifter from moving out of park. It happened on my Taurus years ago. Also, check the shift tube screws under the dash, they love to loosen up and make the shifter feel like a noodle, making it annoying to get into a specific gear.
The bus is now running. And driving. Probably what it needs most is someone who knows how to properly service all the door and safety access systems on the bus to give it a good once over and do a maintenance service. Some repairs and adjustments are probably needed just due to time and deferred maintenance reasons. I personally think you have a darn decent bus there. I suggest you clean it up and send it down the road. I wonder what a trip through the auto spa would cost. With a professional detail touch, this bus might shine and clean up really nice. I don’t see you having the patience nor real long term interest to convert this into a camper or RV. I suspect right now you can move this on to a new home and still make some coin on it.
@@americanrambler4972 That's the ticket. LOL Randy seems to like to get em running and a slightly sorted drive them a little then send em on to the next owner. Nuthin wrong with that. It makes entertaining content and he seems to have fun with it. :-)
The motor sounds pretty normal when it’s running properly. There is a mild skip at idle. I had a bone stock 6L in a 04 F250. Never had a problem in 90k but sold it 14 yrs back when I found a beautiful 00 F250 7.3 with 48k on the clock. I will keep my 00 until I’m too old to climb into the cab. Check the brake interlock switch for intermittent operation on your stuck shifter issue.

Pull the emergency brake. The wheelchair ramp should work, and sometimes you could don’t open the doors all the way and you get that emergency thing to shut on them

Great video Randy!💯👌👍👍
@AutoAuctionRebuilds thats diffrent then going bad. Gelling only happens when fuel isnt properly treated during super cold times most fuels are treated to -20°F during the winter. Algee just cloges filters and pickup socks. Where as bad gas wont allow a vehicle to run
I drive these for a living. The linkage for the emergency release is out of synch, if you pull off that panel you can see what’s it hanging up on. The fast idle is for extra power for running the lift, it has a common electronic interlock so you can’t drive with the lift down.
I would say to start that I would clean it up as good as possible, replace the oil pressure sensor, and figure out how all the systems work on that bus. I'd also check to see why the gear shifter keeps getting stuck as well.
So awesome to see the bus up and running! I hope you’re able to convert it into a little camper van. With such low mileage why not? Would love to see the bus in future videos.
The key slot on the fender is for the door, so if the emergency release for the door won’t budge. Try locking the door, at least then you won’t have to worry about it popping open. That door is likely air operated, air pressure may be why the switch won’t budge.
You can verify if the oil pressure issue is a sensor or the instrument cluster. Insert the key but don't turn it. Press and hold the odometer reset button. Start the engine but keep holding the button. The odometer display will change to the word TEST, and then you can release the button. Then, you can scroll through a ton of test and data output, press the odometer button to scroll through. You can test the gauge needles, warning lights, and see digital text of what each gauge should be displaying.
Good afternoon Randy I just saw your video on the bus that you had. I’m very happy that you got it running. I guess you’re planning on putting it up Brogdon me personally I would love to have it but I don’t know if you wanna bring it to TENNESSEE you’re not in a depends on how much you’re asking for but anyhow, can’t wait to see your next video either on it or on whatever you have planned for for a new video. I’ll be looking out for you. Hope you have a great day and I’ll talk to you soon.
This thing would make a super cheap camper build! Something that well sorted leaves you with a lot of budget for the interior, and it's already climate controlled!
That shift interlock either brake switch circuit or individual button on petal loose cable or bad solenoid on steering wheel or special interlock with wheelchair ramp
I am willing to bet that the shifter being stuck is related to a safety interlock with the wheelchair lift. It might be because it thinks the lift is engaged, or there is a switch on one of those panels that will shut it off. Without a good look at all of the panels I couldn't tell ya what buttons to press though
I don't know man! All I can think is that it's a 6.0 with some nasty looking coolant and it looks like it been purging out of the cap. Those 6.0 engine have to be gone through to make them reliable. Seems like a fun project removing the big engine from that van body.
Has a bad oil pressure switch . Fords oil pressure switches are not accurate. Notice when you start a ford as soon it ALWAYS goes to the middle and NEVER fluctuates up and down . Like a GM does to actually give you accurate oil pressure . As for the shifter issue, that’s usually just a bad brake lamp switch Or the 2 torx bolts up above the brake pedal are loose that connect the shifter to the cable
@ it is not a oil temp gauge . It is oil pressure gauge . Fords oil pressure gauges go in the middle as soon as the oil pressure switch detects oil pressure. But as you drive oil pressure goes up and down and the gauge you would think would reflect that . Fords do not . So it’s not an actual reading. GM oil gauges move as you drive as the oil pressure goes up and down .
The control panel on the right hand side of the dash is the interlock panel for the lift. There are certain criteria that have to be met for it to release the lift and let it power on. Typically the parking brake must be set, which will light up one light, then it will allow the fast idle to be engaged, which keep the batteries charging, the. When the rear doors are opened itll allow theift to turn on.

The advanced idle module u have is like a PTO on a tractor you push the button for advanced idle for the wheelchair ramp so that the engine don't stall...
The service door if you take the panel off above the door with the switches, there was kind of like a pen that might come on loose. All you have to do is get in there and put it back in. I’ve got the same time the bus door system and it’s done that before on my bus before down the road and it’s opened upand it was dark down. I couldn’t figure out what it was. I was on my way home from somewhere had no passengers I’ve been driving those kind of buses for over 30 years. Have to take off the panel on top of the door. Just look inside there.
I don’t know if this has been floated, but you could also have some algae in your fuel which is causing low fuel flow. The filter might be partially clogged.
I drove busses like that for years. If that handle isnt moving, theres most likely a issue with the motor or the alognment. The buttons by the steering wheel are for the wheelchair lift. When the parking brake is engaged, the idle is supposed to bump up. Kind of acts like a pto. That 6.0 doesnt aound quite right though. Sounds like maybe a injector issue. Those 6.0s are naturally moody when you first start them. Every single one i ever drove was like that.
