It is running on 800p, which is compared to your laptop that probably runs at 1080p, only about half the resolution. Also, depending on the age of your laptop, it probably got significantly less preformance. Integrated graphics are still trash for modern gaming but they came a long way since the last few years. If your harwdware is comparable or even better, I would suggest updating drivers and cleaning up the system. Most people are a catastrophe when it comes to handeling their systems and bloating them with trash. Depending on your knowledge about computers and your attitude, this could also be the case. For emulating older systems there's tons of better alternatives which will be much easier more power efficient and portable. Not to mention using your phone with a decent gamepad. However, both this and the gpd win 2 can be set to really low TDP values for extended battery duration. Bear in mind this devices take some tinkering and, in many cases, knowledge of what you're doing and for that reason they won't fit everyone's needs. You can set the TDP low to compensate, but it requires tinkering a bit. Even then, it probably won't. If you plan on playing other, more recent stuff, it's very good, but there are sacrifices. It's relatively heavy and ergonomics are not the best. Plus quick wake up will not be the same as Android. Not to mention that you would be paying 3 times more than you could be paying for a very good quality alternative specifically suited for emulating older consoles. As a catch all device, able to play more modern PC games, and more recent console emulators it's great. As a dedicated old console emulation machine it's definitely not and even a decent quality phone or tablet with a good gamepad will blow it out of the water in terms of ease of use, not to mention their other potential uses. The key with this device is flexibility to cover many needs and consolidate them under one device, but it doesn't excel at anything besides that. I'd agree with that. I more have the desktop though for the upgradable hardware. Being able to replace parts without buying a whole new system is cheaper and will keep it going longer. Plus even when you reach a dead end you will likely still be able to reuse the case, PSU, cooler, and any extra drives. Only the one with the OS really needs to be replaced as running new hardware on it could cause problems unless you DDU everything on it. This seems fine for mobile use, though I think I'll wait for their next model as as the ryzen 4800u has the same TDP but double the cores, far higher clock speeds, and a more robust GPU. Would be sick to see it. Though they might stick with Intel still as they have been using thunderbolt on their laptops and ryzen doesn't tend to have those.

I agree with the Win 3/4. Improved CPU/GPU, ergonomics, RAM, clickable sticks, and improved D-pad in a GPD 1/2 size would make the GPD Win 3/4 a killer gaming UMPC.
Hi Taki, great video and review as usual. I would like to get some feedback on how the controls feel with modern racing games. Nobody has yet tried it.
It's not bad with the latest update. A lot of stuff is very smooth without an eGPU. The Yuzu team is pretty active, so the emulator will be much better when this device ships.
As much as I want to believe that, intel is in the end of the chain on the priority list, first comes Nvidia, then amd, then intel... At least for the majority of emulator teams. Still, the device looks amazing honestly!
So I’m in the market for one of these systems mainly for emulation and portable gaming on steam. Do you recommend holding out for the win max or would the win 2 be alright for this purpose? Also great vids!
This actually is a really clever system, has everything you need in terms of controls and performance, solid parts, and a fucking keyboard that seems to work great!
I want to point out that in all their promo images for the Win Max, the screen is photoshopped to be bigger and the bezels smaller when in reality the bezels are HUGE.

But if used primarily for this purpose, perhaps better suited due to their much higher res screen, could be GPD Pocket 2 (1920x1200, 323 PPI) or more so GPD P2 Max (2560×1600, 340ppi)?

10:05 the same can be said with the switch... The bezels make it look like a tablet from the early 2010's and I really hope they make the screen bigger on the switch pro and reduce the bezels. Well on top of significantly upgrading the hardware. It would just make more sense and the switch pro could be marketed for people that like to play AAA titles and ports that away they can run at proper resolutions and frame rates. Then people that prefer indie games or Nintendo games that are optimized solely for the switch well then the regular switch or switch lite would still be perfect for them while also making the more "hardcore" market happier as well. Plus if Nintendo ever teamed up with Microsoft and allowed the Xbox Game Pass on the switch I would LOVE it if the two companies released some fat JoyCons with an Xbox theme that have analog triggers and HD Rumble/Motion control ect for people that want to play games that are more suited to analog triggers.

This looks great! But I'm a little bit afraid that the vent slot at the bottom and the LAN-Port will disturb the feeling when you hold it in Gamepad mode. Also I hope that this time the quality will be better and will live longer. My GPD XD, Win 1 and Win 2 all needed a repair at the display cable without any external damage, my GPD Pocket had battery issues at first. The more expensive those GPD devices get, the more afraid I become of buying something that makes much fun but is programmed to die early. :-/
Sorry I’m new to the handhelds gaming but it’s a gift I’m planning to buy for my big brother however when buying this device would I need to download the games or are they already built in and can add more if need to ? Oh and nice descriptive video 👍🏼
Maybe I'm just really weird, but as a writer, one of the most attractive things to me is the location of the trackpad. It's so much easier for me to do long amounts of typing when I don't have to worry about my hands resting on the pad.
Can you really not use Intel XTU to adjust TDP or is it just implied that you've already tried it? Good and interesting video, although IMO could use a bit more highlighting of technical details such as frametimes or thermals.
Can it be use possibly for an online class? Does this had a microsoft word or excel too? Can it be used for downloading applications like google,fb,youtube also?
The only thing stopping me is the screen resolution. I get having it lower for the games, but when not running games I would like at least 1080p for other stuff.
Hi Taki ! I have GPD WIN 2 and the biggest problem for me is the fan noise and heat with demanding games. Compared to the WIN 2, would you say WIN MAX is much more silent and cool ? And would it be possible to use the touch pad and gamepad in the same time to play FPS games ? Thanks a lot !

there will be another windows handheld device in late 2020 called AYA console。It got a switch like design and 4gen ryzen。In my opinion it could bring a more optimized gaming experience
Why make such assumption when u even haven’t touched the device? In theory a lot of things work in this world, but execution is everything.
Yo Wutsup dudes got a point
What game in 9:30 ??
I'll wait for the win 3 or win 4. Way too big for my liking. Hope they improve the Dpad even further
It is not that big really
@@ricksmith4840 maybe for you. It's freaking huge for me.
Than get a psp to emulate or ds ??? i mean its pretty small in general what exactly do you want ??? lol or get a switch and emulate..... do you have mouse hands??? lol
I agree with the Win 3/4. Improved CPU/GPU, ergonomics, RAM, clickable sticks, and improved D-pad in a GPD 1/2 size would make the GPD Win 3/4 a killer gaming UMPC.
@@CodeSerial those improvements I agree with. That is one of the reasons I'm holding off on the max. I want to see how Gpd tackles the win 3.
Your reviews are the best. Great job.
How many hours of Monster Hunter World do you get out of this?

Hi Taki, great video and review as usual. I would like to get some feedback on how the controls feel with modern racing games. Nobody has yet tried it.
Hey man! I want to know how the battlefield series run on this system.
Not the newest like bf1 or bf5.
But bf3 bf4 bf hardline and bad company 2.
I don't have it but it'll obviously run pretty well, my pc runs it and it is way worse than this
Very well done huge amount of needed info. Thank you.
Quick question is Switch emulation not good on it? But thanks for the review
It's not bad with the latest update. A lot of stuff is very smooth without an eGPU. The Yuzu team is pretty active, so the emulator will be much better when this device ships.
@@TakiUdon oh thanks for this - is your name based on Yaki Udon?
@@LordYamcha slighly
As much as I want to believe that, intel is in the end of the chain on the priority list, first comes Nvidia, then amd, then intel... At least for the majority of emulator teams.
Still, the device looks amazing honestly!
So I’m in the market for one of these systems mainly for emulation and portable gaming on steam. Do you recommend holding out for the win max or would the win 2 be alright for this purpose? Also great vids!
As long as you don't mind tweaking settings, the Win 2 is great, especially when prices start going down from this device.
This actually is a really clever system, has everything you need in terms of controls and performance, solid parts, and a fucking keyboard that seems to work great!
@Lightingale X Nightingal Yes it would.......when they steal it.
I want to point out that in all their promo images for the Win Max, the screen is photoshopped to be bigger and the bezels smaller when in reality the bezels are HUGE.
When I saw Skyward Sword that brought back memories.
Great review! I have not seen any mention that the amiibos work on this device. That’s a key function on the Nintendo side for my kids. Ever since I took them to their first gaming conference, they have been hooked.. now we all keep searching for a definitive answer on amiibo usage..
the keyboard lights test is bizzare without the screen on
15:26 did you put egpu from this time?
cool machine but ouch on the price. You could likely get a more reliable brand name lappy with better specs for less
Obviously, but nothing at this size.
That brand name laptop would be much bigger, and wouldn't have built in dpad, and joystick.
@@Fadexpl This thing is not that small tho. it's Thick like a 2000's laptop. for a little bit more of laptop you get so much more.
@@mreverybody1150 just my opinion but i'd rather have an external controller that is excellent than a sub par, obviously unconfortable embedded one anytime
@@AndreaFromTokyo The built in one will improve, and the one on the GPD Win 2 was good enough. It's more about convenience though.
Can someon tall me the name of the first game he show at 9:30?? Thank you
I would like to know it too
This might sound dumb but can it run original xbox games? You never mentioned that point
No
Let me know when there's anything that can run og Xbox games that isn't an Xbox.
@@2010ngojo Xbox emulation made a huge step like a year ago. I haven't been keeping up with it, but it might be able to handle some Xbox games on the emulator at this stage in it's development.
I would think this would work well for he game streaming services when you have good wifi. Would love to see those used on Win Max (Ex: GeForce Now, Stadia, Shadow, Xbox GamePass, etc). But if used primarily for this purpose, perhaps better suited due to their much higher res screen, could be GPD Pocket 2 (1920x1200, 323 PPI) or more so GPD P2 Max (2560×1600, 340ppi)?
This is not made for streaming my guy get something with a better battery life.
I would just buy a flat out laptop at that point myself.
Edit: Jeeze especially after seeing the cost I definitely would.
it IS...essentially that....
Would your laptop have a thunderbolt 3 port, bluetooth 5 and wifi 6?
@@UltraAhmetDoray Bluetooth 5.0 and Wifi 6? Yeah a lot of gaming laptop around that price point that have come out recently have both of those. A lot with USB-C ports also becoming commonplace; these things are primarily computer and mobile device features after all.
@@denzelb5380 Yes....exactly?
@@sociallyresponsiblexenomor7608 thunderbolt port, not normal USB c .
0:04 that aim sensitivity is atrocious
I did not know things like these existed! Beastly little thing.
Stumbled on your channel while checking out RG350 handheld because I wanted to try some retro games and having them on the go sounds really good.
Welcome aboard!
@@TakiUdon Thanks. I know next to nothing about emulation scene, your channel really helped me decide on the RG350 :)
Me: *sees this *
this pc: hey, i'm cheap! only 500!
Me: Ohh Hell Naaah
@Simeon Roban i did, but i can’t afford any of those
How is it playing Skyward Sword without a Wii mote? I've always wanted to be able to play it like that.
Emulated controls in Dolphin
Looks like a macbook had a kid with a ds
@Just some Forest Ranger with Internet Access Alabama
bro what's the name of the game at 9:18?
I can’t believe this tiny thing has a better cooling system than Razer’s products.
I'm really rooting for this form factor. I can't buy anything this premo at the moment, but I hope when I can that there will always be a device similar on the market.
How was he playing Breath of the Wild, on that thing.
cemu
Well how good are the ps3, xbox emulation? would it be good enough to buy a $800+ system? Tbh if i was in charge id rather make a gaming laptop giving a large 15.6 screen, a gaming controller, longer battery life to justify hands on feeling, and to give it an aesthetic pleasure. Drop the meaning from handheld to portable and With a badass well disigned logo can be the best selling retro gaming system. Give the gamers what they want.
It's gonna be hot as hell. It'll turn my hands to crisps in like 2 hours.
It will feel cooler than the air around you.
Hey guys. Guys. Just imagine playing Breath of the Wild ON THE GO.
Lol
Clearly you don't own the switch lol
That's really impressive, even though some people already made it portable (on gpd win 2) lmao
Ren was making a joke.

Yo. Handheld MH World? It's like the switch port we never got.

Hard pass. That looks incredibly uncomfortable haha
Sorry if it was stated and I missed it but were all those games shown towards the end running with or without an egpu helping?
Too expensive, looks stupid and is no handheld, just a notebook with some sticks
it's not a notebook, it's a netbook. which is exactly what makes it great. try to find another netbook in today's market.

Sorry I’m new to the handhelds gaming but it’s a gift I’m planning to buy for my big brother however when buying this device would I need to download the games or are they already built in and can add more if need to ? Oh and nice descriptive video 👍🏼
You'd need to download everything. It's a fresh PC.

Wow, this is pretty awesome! I'd be more interested in getting one of these verses a gaming laptop.
Maybe I'm just really weird, but as a writer, one of the most attractive things to me is the location of the trackpad. It's so much easier for me to do long amounts of typing when I don't have to worry about my hands resting on the pad.
It's the bane of my existence working with a Thinkpad.
Can you really not use Intel XTU to adjust TDP or is it just implied that you've already tried it?
Good and interesting video, although IMO could use a bit more highlighting of technical details such as frametimes or thermals.
It doesn't support Intel 10th gen yet
That sucks.
Can it be use possibly for an online class?
Does this had a microsoft word or excel too?
Can it be used for downloading applications like google,fb,youtube also?
The only thing stopping me is the screen resolution. I get having it lower for the games, but when not running games I would like at least 1080p for other stuff.
I see what you mean.
Hey where do you get your roms?
That thunderbolt gives us that ability to play even more titles
You sir twisted my arm hard enough to make me support the Max this time around, thanks for blowing a good portion of my paycheck.
