As someone who only observes the handheld market, this is the first one where I'm actually like "wow". Not just because of the device itself but also the realization how far we've come in terms of handheld performance. I would be very interested in a video trying out potential use cases for this as the "main personal computer", with various docking configs.
I used GPD Win 2 as the main personal computer, plugged to USB-C and connected to external display. It works quite well. I'd expect the same from GPD Win 4, and I'd say it will be likely on par with Steam Deck. Main complaint regarding the GPD Win 2 (docked) was the heat and the loud fan. And the battery life (as in how long until the battery starts to bulge and needs to be replaced).
I bought a gaming PC about 2 years ago. Not a huge thing but it's been able to play everything I have thrown at it. The processor in the GPD 4 may be a touch stronger than what I have in my huge PC. It's crazy. When I get my GPD4 I think I may actually consider getting an Egpu and take the 2070 Super in my PC and just dock my GPD4 to it and use it as my main computer all the time.
@@DenilsonSa The GPD4 apparently is a beast when it comes to cooling. Surprisingly quiet fan and I saw videos comparing games on both the Deck and GPD and the temperature were a steady 70c for the Deck while the GPD4 was around 50c.
@@DenilsonSa If you want your GPD devices to last longer. Make sure to use something like the Power Control Panel app. These devices if left to their own free will will ramp up wattage usage for something as simple as a background update. My GPD Win Max 2021 probably lost a lot of its life simply because of that. Now I have it throttled to 8W and for everyday usage its plenty of power. Just need to switch profile when I want to game. Anyway, enjoy your Win Maxs!
Yeah I like the size too. Smaller things that pack more of a punch is something that always intrigued me in the handheld device market. From little handheld tvs to Gameboy micros etc. I cant get enough.
This thing is like my teenage tech dream! The aesthetic of the PSP/Vita, with a decent form factor and that late 2000s aesthetic slide up screen and mini keyboard! 🤯🤯🔥
I know that the next Switch iteration won't be at this level of tech specs (how could it when it will be ~$700 cheaper than this), but I'm really excited to see what Nintendo does do with it given all the innovations we've seen in the market.
I don't think this has anything to do with the Switch. Nintendo has proven they can sell consoles with their games alone - this is just a further step on the spread of mobile pc gaming.
The New Switch Pro XL better be a Portable PC or it will flop. No way anyone (who already has a Switch, specially if it's the OLED) is gonna buy another Switch that's just slightly less inferior than it's previous version.
I did the same thing when I saw it a few months ago. Placed my preorder right then and there and I didn't even do that for the steam deck. This thing is exactly what I want in a handheld.
Yes I LOVE that technology has come to the point to where we can have a full desktop gaiming experience in a handheld form factor with arguably very little compromise. Now we just need pricing in the competition to stabilize more. The pricing of the deck is a good step in that direction too. Before the deck something like the GPD Win 4 would have easily been 1200+ even while on indigogo
It's a T-Mobile Sidekick. That's the design they're aping. My wife had one. I loved it. I had the G1, and later the G2. I will forever mourn the loss of fold-out keyboards in smartphones.
@@GSBarlev I have had this discussion with tons of people. Nobody ever agrees with me. Nice to se somebody else say it unprompted in the wild. I could type like the wind on those slide out keyboards. Now I fumble to type on any touchscreen no matter the size.
For android phone was an LG ally, then a Droid 4. Then another Droid 4 when that one died cause there were no good alternatives. Then the Moto Z Force in the hopes a keyboard module would be made. Almost made it there in a kickstarter but it died cause Motorola screwed over the teams. Then an F(x)tec Pro1 rose from those ashes, but it just wasn't for me and kinda buggy. Waited so long for Project ARA only for Google to kill it. Kept up on a few other modular-type phones in the hopes of one making it and enough people wanting keebs. But finally gave up after my Z Force died and the Pro1 just wasn't working out, now I'm on a Note 20 Ultra. During the 5ish years I had the Z Force I got used to using Swype, so that helped me transition to using screen typing only hut ugh, still miss the physical hardware keyboards though. Maybe one day they'll come back!
I've refunded the second I've heard about the win mini 😅 I got the original win max and I would love the idea of a more powerful mini version of it ❣️🙏

It would be interesting to see a "desktop replacement" test done with this when docked. Tests like thermals over using it as a windows desktop for lite work all day, or when gaming for a few hours (exceeding its typical use on battery)
I just wrote that in a stand alone comment, yes, that would be very interesting. Especially temperatures if it´s connected to the wall (power) for a longer period of time, I bet it could handle most mundane tasks like internet browing/TH-cam/emails etc. flawlessly, 60 fps on popular non triple A titles should be within reach at 1080p. Need a review.
Yup, I ended up preordering one for this reason. I'd love for this to replace my personal dev box.. Since all of my workstations have thunderbolt/usb docks.
Yeah I really enjoyed my GPD Win, but sadly since the Win 2, they've targeted a much higher price point. I picked up the Win for only like $300, but now all their products are $600+.
Another great thing you didn't mention: this thing has "backpacks". It ha snotches next to the air vents so you can hook up a LTE module or other stuff they come up with.
@@Emiichocothe steam deck is better in terms of controls, but this is better for portability. But your comment saying they're butthurt is simply childish and untrue
As a steam deck owner, this thing is awesome, and there's lots of things I prefer about it over the deck. The killer feature of the deck though really keeps coming back to price. For a starting price of literally half the amount, it's hard to fault the deck for some of it's shortcomings compared to this device. That said, still a really cool portable, especially given the performance it offers, but I also wouldn't have considered a steam deck at all if it started anywhere close to $800.
also valves customer support andthe touhpads, some may find them useless but for casual fps gaming it's leagues above an analog stick or for games that benefit from a mouse cursor I can play bejeweled 2 and zuma for example then play halo ce or master chief collection then play racing games and the price just wish it had thunderbolt a lot of people don't like the screen of the deck but it actually looks fine to me and the lower resolution makes it easier to run games I want this gpd I just wish it was cheaper
For some games (that have text to read) I find the Steam Deck already borderline on the screen size. This would be unplayable for those sorts of games (for me) lol
Valve subsidizes their hardware with software sales. If valve is making any kind of net profit on the steam deck hardware sales, I can't imagine it's more than 1%. They're hoping to get a kind of customer into their store that they've never had before, the console gamer.
As a kid I used to dream of having a Sony Vaio UX, OQO or some other UMPC. Even now I can still only dream of having a handheld PC because of how expensive they are, though I do have a HP Stream 7 which I bought back in 2015
@@JoeyPerleoni I still have Win8.1 on mine but sadly the support ended just recently. I'd say the most annoying things about the Stream 7 are: only one microUSB port and no separate charging port, only 1GB RAM and 32GB eMMC, and no other input methods than the touchscreen. I love the fact that the Steam 7 can be charged from a normal cheap power back or even from a PC USB port but a dedicated charging port would have been a nice addition so that it would be possible to use a USB hub while charging the tablet. The tablet also needs a working battery to even boot so if/when the battery dies the tablet won't boot even when connected to a charger. I'm not sure if a separate charging port would have made it possible to use it even without a battery like how it's on most laptops. Some other cheap Windows tablets also had a microHDMI port which would have been nice to have too. 1GB RAM was already really low when the tablet was new so an Atom Z3735F with 2GB RAM would have been nice. 32GB storage is also low for desktop Windows but tbh most more expensive Android tablets still had 16GB storage, heck even the iPad Pro 2015 had 32GB on the base model and unlike the Steam 7 it didn't have a memory card slot. And for the input methods I think a small trackpad and mouse buttons next to the display would have been nice (like on a HTC Shift) but those are more of UMPC features. Something similar to the Surface Pen would have been nice but that obviously would have been too expensive. Some small (official) qwerty keyboard case would have been nice too. To this day the Steam 7 is still the smallest PC that I have and the only one that can be charged with any USB charger or power bank. It can even run BioShock (2007) although at quite low frame rate Edit: I completely forgot the 32bit EFI which makes it impossible to run 64bit Windows on it. But that's the same on every Bay-Trail tablet. Linux 64bit works though because it doesn't require a 64bit EFI.
As a kid this is what I wanted instead of modern smartphones. Not only the hardware but also full fledged PC OS support. You could use some UI mode and use it as a phone.
Now THIS is a step in the right direction. I enjoyed one of the older models thanks to its portable (as in actually fits in your pocket) clamshell design, but have been disinterested in most of the recent handheld PCs of late due to their huge size. While this might still be a little too big for my personal tastes, it still has an impressive amount of power while still being fairly small. I could see myself using this.
@@nicolasmfa Im sure in another 5-10 years it will surely be possible to get that performance smaller. But at the same time I feel like these companies would rather increase the power of the device instead of making it more compact
At the same time, the constant iterations is the biggest thing keeping me out of getting a handheld gaming PC - it’s moving so fast and each one getting better than the last, which is normally a good thing, but means it’s always going to be a case of “yeah but if I wait six more months there’ll be something better”.
@@Blinkxys tbf the switch isn't even competing. it's its own product. these handhelds have the same form factor of the switch, but that's basically all they have in common
@@miscl_anon Except that most the Switch can do, they can do as well. Switch Emulation works quite well on Windows and Linux, the only thing you really loose is some online capabilities.
@@overlordmarkus That ignores the market the Switch is aiming for, though. Most people who are buying something like a Switch aren't, in fact, computer geeks who are wanting to homebrew and run emulators and all of that: it's children or their parents, looking for a simple and cheap gaming system they can use without having to do a lot of their own configuration. A base model of one of these costs about the same as buying 3 Switches, so there's the costs there. There's multiplayer on a single system, where in this unit's case you'd have to buy a second controller where there's a lot of Switch games that can use the split joycons. There's the usual idiosyncrasies of configuring games in Windows, and the still to this day spotty controller support in PC versions of a lot of games, and so on and so forth. it's the classic console situation: even when they're weaker, they have their own suite of advantages that let them appeal to a broader market in general.
GPD nailed it this time. From form factor, to design (big F to Sony), to speaker, to performance, to eGPU support. Man if only I have unlimited amount of money.
@@SRC267 Don't entirely agree with the other dude... but you can emulate anything in the switch's library on this thing and/or run its native Windows version, which not even the Steamdeck can as reliably do.
I think that's the first of those handheld PC that I would classify as a real alternative to the Steam Deck. It's expensive, but I think for once, you actually get more than the Deck and not less. The GPD Win 3 was underpowered compared to the Steam Deck, while having worst battery life and being double the price, same thing for the Aya Neo Next. The Neo Air is also underpowered and more expensive, but it also has a great OLED screen, so it's a sacrifice if you prefer performance or screen quality and size. The Anbernic Win600 is the only one that also runs Steam OS and is around the price of the Deck, which is great, but it also uses an Athlon APU, so it even has difficulties running games like Ori at a constant 30 FPS. There are also the odd ones like the OneXPlayer that have basically the same problems. WIth the GPD Win 4, the Ayn Loki / Loki Max, the Aya Neo 2 and probably others I'm forgetting, it's really cool to finally see some real competition and what Valve will do in response (not that I expect a major update to the Steam Deck in the next year, we'll probably get one with a slightly better screen, better battery life and things like that, but I don't see them abandonning their custom APU after only a year)
One of the best things Steam Deck did was to lower the market price for all handheld PCs. Before it, these things went for $1200+ easily. Now it looks like the companies making these have to aim for better performance and more reasonable profit margines. I just hope they can improve battery life further down the line.
Aya Neo is far ahead of a steam deck in terms of a handheld pc so I don’t know why you even use a deck as comparison lol. I have both aya Neo next and a deck . Aya Neo is a much better device. The gpd doesn’t deserve to be compared to a deck. Compare it with aya Neo or a next player
@@droo3010 mb for you, the next does have a better cpu but worse gpu, compared to the steam deck, ergonomics heard they were fine for the most part, but bear in mind, the steam deck is a handheld that starts from 400-600 while the next still being a more expensive one. Gpd win 4 is also undobtly one of most feature pack/compact handhelds out there therefore i dont quite trust gpd as a company. Now i can say other aya neo devices like the geek or 2, and with upcoming next 2 those are nice.
@@asunavk69 the screen on aya is also much better . And the aya runs games much better than the deck . The deck could barely run any other than steam games smooth. But the screen is as horrible to look at compared to the Neo. And the frame rates on Neo was better. I really was disappointed on the deck after owning a Neo since it’s so big like a brick and couldn’t play many of the games I play . Btw . And for calling it a handheld pc is kinda disappointing when it’s only good with Linux which is so limited for me
Not worth it. Piece of junk. 2 hour battery life out of box means it will drop to like 1.5 hours of battery life after some basic usage. Battery technology is not up to par to run a device like this. What is the point of a "hand held" computer that has to be plugged in to change every 70 minutes?
Such a ridiculous well made and over the top consumer grade handheld. Not backed by some greedy big corp like Nintendont or even Steam/Valve? Running Win10 and literately the screen and joysticks being the parts that is the key parts that seems to not be over the top good? Just... Mediocre? Epic execution of a product. Honestly. It even have good run at competing with a desktop PC.

@@shnoo8900 Yeah this thing can easily do PS3 and Wii-U. But it's gonna suck that battery like a mofo. I'm really looking forward to the I3 versions of the Ayn and Ayaneo devices.
Check out The Phawx or ETA Prime's videos on the Win 4; you'll definitely see some emulation showcases there. i've just purchased the new 2023 version which has a 7840u instead of the 6800u, 64 gigs of ram, yes SIXTY FOUR gigs, and 4TB SDD. its a replacement for my ancient and archaic GPD Win 1 with 4 gigs of ram, windows 11 takes up half the ram, through sheer willpower i managed to get Baldur's Gate 3 running at a painful 5FPS :P so looking forward to playing modern games on the go again!
pretty neat. you should do a video where you install Steam OS on a few of these devices and compare it windows on each one, I'd love to see how they all size up in a SteamOS vs Windows line up
Fwiw, ThePhawx already has (possibly ETA Prime as well?). He reports tag everything worked out of the box except the fingerprint reader. That plus the fact that it's easily user-serviceable (GPD's official TH-cam shows you how to get upgrade the SSD) has me looking at this really longingly, even though I love my Deck.
Although I'm a hardcore PC enthusiast, I'm kinda liking these stuff and if they continue to become this good to the point that they can easily push modern games at 1080p 60fps I might actually buy one even if it is $1k
It just goes to show that we don't really need lumbering towers anymore. The only advantage that they have now is cooling so you can get more performance out of it but the fact that you can plug in external components such as storage/gpus and power as well as stream it on a bigger TV screen, kind of kills whatever advantage PC towers had.
@@wanderingbufoon I wouldn't go that far personally, to suggest that traditional desktop PCs are obsolete is a bit of a stretch, especially considering this thing is typically at least $2000. Not to mention the issues that come with egpus and other external components and being hardware bound by this handheld. Handhelds are great and they are probably going to become the preferred method of gaming in the future, but I think that's still many years away.

I seem to remember that part of the goal for valve was not only to have a successful product but to encourage a market of successful products similar to the deck. It seems like with this it's starting to indicate that they were successful on both accounts. I mean they win either way if somebody's using steam on one of these or on their steam deck.
Quite the opposite... It's actually GPD who encouraged everyone on the handheld PC markets and not the other way around. Valve only announced Steam Deck on 2021. Meanwhile GPD distributed its first handheld PC way back in 2016. Give proper credit where it's due man...
@@xlDon2lx With that logic, Valve was trying bespoke gaming machines for PC configurations before even GPD Win in 2015, with Steam Machines. They even attempted to apply the same marketing and developing methods as GPUs- where a base model is made and then licensed out to other companies- so I mean... Where it begins is a little hazy, so while it's fair to say GPD was on the actual *handheld* part first, Valve followed their suit with intent to stir it up some more after they failed the smaller niche project. GPD also started on Indiegogo crowd sourcing, so it's probably more of Valve encouraging this "small company" to keep going by throwing their hat in. But who knows, picking this apart isn't too productive.
I certainly can't jump on the roughly $1600 asking tier for the top-range model, but seeing this makes me very happy that I didn't buy a steam deck yet. Like many others have already expressed, it's crazy how far handhelds have come.
@@rvmiv_ shouldn't you be able to install whatever OS you want though because, like the Steam Deck, it's literally just a computer? Valve either had already or is going to make the SteamOS available to download for use on any device.
Put an OLED screen on it, SteamOS, and you'll have me wanting to buy it.... in about 2 years when my steam deck is older. That keyboard and form factor look amazing!
An OLED is going to annihilate the already-stretched battery, and you can already put Linux (and probably, explicitly, HoloISO) on it. For me baby-hands Linus saying the ergonomics were incredible pretty much ruins it for me and my gigantic paws. 😔 If GPD does a follow-up in the same gen with the exact same hardware but a larger form factor, I don't think I could resist buying one, and I *love* my Deck.

GPD tend to iterate new versions of their hardware every couple of years so by the time you're ready to buy, there might be something even more powerful on offer.
I'm so in love with this one. I really want a realistically portable handheld PC, something much more compact than the Steam Deck, but it's going to be a few years before I can justify the expense. But damn do I hope something with this form factor is around then. Especially the lanyard/wrist strap attachment point. I don't understand why they're not standard, I wouldn't want to drop that on the concrete train platform during my commute 😬

I always thought it would be cool if the docks for these had some kind of cooling improvement, like an additional fan or something. So you get better / quieter performance in 'desktop' mode.
The GPD's cooling system is already the best out of all the devices of that kind. It runs in the 50 degrees celcius while gaming. The Deck by comparison goes in the 70.
True, that would be amazing, but I've found that with my experience with the GPD Win 2, a simple desk fan is more than adequate to supplement cooling. I actually used a wire mesh phone stand to keep it vertical with a small desk fan behind it whenever I wanted to run more stressful titles like Fallout 76. I've noticed that most "laptop cooling pads" tend to use extremely weak fans for some reason, so I doubt that it would even work well if they made an all in one solution. You are probably better off buying a cheap desk fan and calling it a day.
That's pretty sick! Not ready to buy one yet so if the next one is OLED and has the better sticks then I'd be all in! The slide screen and keyboard are really tempting though, if I hadn't just had to buy a car I would probably get this, love the chonky Vita looks too!
One thing a portable gaming device have to have is a good suspend and resume mode so you can just suspend the whole system with a button and then resume the game exactly from where you left it. Steam os does this really well and my experience with Windows sleep in games have been very spotty.

The other thing this has that's vita-like is EVERY MODERN FEATURE. That optical mouse thing? Back plate on the vita. Backlit keyboard? Yeah they didn't have to, but they did. Rgb bumpers? Yup.
I'm loving the development of cheap-isch, accessible handheld PC gaming devices. The Steam Deck has changed how I play games, and I'm very interested in seeing how this market develops as we get more and more efficient APUs
I've been waiting for this one for a while now. As a huge fan of the SteamDeck, I don't think I could give up the Steam OS environment, plus the touchpads and back buttons. Those alone are a huge deal for me. But I'm just excited we're finally getting more portable PCs that really pack a good amount of power.
A couple months ago I did order the Win 4 since its exactly what I am looking for. But I agree with you. I am happy that actual competition to the steam deck is coming out and that the higher price is also brining more/better features above and beyond what the steam deck already supplies. This makes me excited for Steam Deck 2
@@-Cesh-They need more affordable competition tbh. If steam goes all in on the next one it will probably blow everything out of the water and still be affordable.
Yes, 16 CU‘s would’ve been so amazing! I don’t even care about a higher price or a bit more power draw, 16CU‘s in a mobile PC would be such an amazing thing! Since I usually play my handhelds at home, in the car, the train or plane theres always a charger near. I’d never sit in a Forrest with a handheld and if I ever would I’d just take my steamdeck and play things like portal with 6w power draw..
It was a wise decision to go down to 12 CUs. If they even thought about using 16 at all! For 16 CUs you need power! Even the 6800U needs at least 40 W to release it's nearly full potential. Don't get me started with 16! Even 8 cores are overkill. Especially with Zen4 4C/8T should be really fine. Of course using it as a desktop those 8C/16T are nice bit still a bit overkill. So what now? Going up to 40 W is heavy. I don't even know how high the GPD Win4 can go. But 40 W would need a heavy bulky device. I mind the weight of the Steam Deck but it shouldn't go higher IMO.
@@Megalomaniakaal if size or heat is the issue, they could've sacrificed cpu cores for CUs. We only need 6 cpus at most, even 4 of zen 4s are fine. 16CU would've made it carved its own niche in the laptop space.
I know I say this most of the time, but this hand held looks great, I'm really tempted to get it, but then I remind myself I have no use cases for mobile gaming like this
I'm in and out of the hospital a lot and have wanted an affordable handheld option to keep me company, I'm so glad to see it become a reality. Now the only tricky part is picking the right one, but I'm really liking this one.
There are a ton of handheld PC coming out but there is one thing the Deck will always have an advantage with. The price. Since Valve makes money from games they can price the device really low.
I doubt it will be real competitor. Performance-wise Win4 is better option, but deck is a lot cheaper, easy to fix, have trackpads and huge community support.
@@rincewindthewizzard6594 Speaking strictly in terms of definition it can be a competitor but for different reasons. Someone who wants something smaller than the Deck with more features would certainly be looking at the GPD4. That's what happened to me. What the GPD4 is not is a Steamdeck killer. It's made for those who want something else than a Deck.
Its worth noting that the specs on the video are not the specs of the $800 base model. That comes with 16GB ram and a modest 512GB SSD rather than the 32GB Ram 2TB SSD shown in the video. That will likely cost at least $1,200 just because the memory and SSD costs. Its just a difficult price point for gaming at 1080p low settings on most modern games and has very poor chances of keeping up playable performance with new games a year or two at most.
Looks sweet. The slider should be on top or somewhere else because I could see people accidentally sliding it to game mode or mouse mode. itll be a good steam deck competitor for sure
When it comes to handhelds, I personally believe that smaller is better for sure. Also needs to be comfortable over long gameplay sessions; with some handhelds the hands can cramp/ache after an hour or 2 of actual game play.
I Personally am sticking to the deck, but in all honesty I Love that the gaming handheld PC market is a thing now! More the better! Race ON! :D (Also as a PS Vita owner, this thing definitely called my name when I saw it xd)

The New Switch Pro XL better be a Portable PC or it will flop.
No way anyone (who already has a Switch, specially if it's the OLED) is gonna buy another Switch that's just slightly less inferior than it's previous version.

As a steam deck owner, this thing is awesome, and there's lots of things I prefer about it over the deck. The killer feature of the deck though really keeps coming back to price. For a starting price of literally half the amount, it's hard to fault the deck for some of it's shortcomings compared to this device. That said, still a really cool portable, especially given the performance it offers, but I also wouldn't have considered a steam deck at all if it started anywhere close to $800.
yup, it's great though to see different implementations for specific purposes and people. Competition in this space will help it explode for sure.

@BlackSn0wz that will never happen. Value can afford to sell the deck at loss while other companies cannot afford to.
I can't believe we've come this far in mobile tech. It's what as a kid I could only dream of, and now it's here.
As a kid I used to dream of having a Sony Vaio UX, OQO or some other UMPC. Even now I can still only dream of having a handheld PC because of how expensive they are, though I do have a HP Stream 7 which I bought back in 2015
@@Pasi123 I loved my Stream 7! To this day the smallest Windows tablet I’ve ever seen. Ran great on Windows 8, but was barely usable on Windows 10…
It can even run BioShock (2007) although at quite low frame rate
Edit: I completely forgot the 32bit EFI which makes it impossible to run 64bit Windows on it.
I don't think u can get something smaller, that's pretty much a phone with a estereoscopic controller

GPD's Win series and the Steam Deck make me excited for what competition in this space could push out.

It's $3500
@@wanderingbufoon I wouldn't go that far personally, to suggest that traditional desktop PCs are obsolete is a bit of a stretch, especially considering this thing is typically at least $2000. Not to mention the issues that come with egpus and other external components and being hardware bound by this handheld. Handhelds are great and they are probably going to become the preferred method of gaming in the future, but I think that's still many years away.
@wanderingbufoon you can literally build a ultra compact pc with zero performance compromises. People build large pc for aesthetics. We have seen gaming laptops for decades
@@wanderingbufoon idk.....being able to swap out parts and easily upgrade is a huge bonus over these devices that are basically handheld consoles. I love these handhelds but theyre not close to beating out beast pcs
I seem to remember that part of the goal for valve was not only to have a successful product but to encourage a market of successful products similar to the deck. It seems like with this it's starting to indicate that they were successful on both accounts. I mean they win either way if somebody's using steam on one of these or on their steam deck.
Well, this is the 4th iteration of their product. They’ve been doing this long before the steam deck even existed.
Gpd has been making these since like 2018 or 19, I remember being interested in the first one when I saw a video of someone playing Fallout 3 on one.
@@xlDon2lx GPD gains nothing from more market competition... VALVE does
I certainly can't jump on the roughly $1600 asking tier for the top-range model, but seeing this makes me very happy that I didn't buy a steam deck yet. Like many others have already expressed, it's crazy how far handhelds have come.

@@GSBarlev steam os works on it as per taki and other reviewers have shown. assume there will be some follow up since the gpd win 3 was this but more lame
Tbh you getting free windows in here which in itself is a value, you can switch to Steam OS for free, so will rather have windows and do dual boot on this! Switch emulation works wonders in this
GPD tend to iterate new versions of their hardware every couple of years so by the time you're ready to buy, there might be something even more powerful on offer.
You can tell Linus in this video really is excited about this handheld its like watching him re-live his younger day opening a christmas gift.

Exactly what I thought about when I seen the slide
That display sliding mechanism really looks a lot like the one on the HTC Dream 😍that phone was a damn tank
It is crazy they managed to fit like 4 inputs backlights and that sliding mechanism in such a small device.
We definitely need a GPD WIN 4 as a desktop replacement video
I'm so in love with this one. I really want a realistically portable handheld PC, something much more compact than the Steam Deck, but it's going to be a few years before I can justify the expense. But damn do I hope something with this form factor is around then. Especially the lanyard/wrist strap attachment point. I don't understand why they're not standard, I wouldn't want to drop that on the concrete train platform during my commute 😬
With the tech industry going how it has been. I would guess no longer than a decade till the fully functional and practical hand held pc market will up and running.
That short circuit pc setup in the back is looking more an more awesome every timer I see it... Oh and that hand held is pretty sick...
What case is that!?!?!?

Their mouse/joystick swich is I believe hardware-level (so like, two different sets of code on their joystick controller). It's honestly excellent.
I'm more of a Win Max guy. But this shows they had come such a long way.
It is really good to see they stepped their game up after the steam deck.
Not the same company
That battery made me lol. It was inevitable that something faster than Steam Deck would appear but since the price is pretty high it's great that all these options exist in this market.
At least it competes with Steamdecks 512GB version. But still gets laughed anyway.
Lets wait for 7840U editions. I gotta take a bite on that Radeon 780M on handhelds
Not worth it.
Piece of junk. 2 hour battery life out of box means it will drop to like 1.5 hours of battery life after some basic usage.
Battery technology is not up to par to run a device like this. What is the point of a "hand held" computer that has to be plugged in to change every 70 minutes?
@@chinbosschinboss2484 If you lower the TDP, you can get way more than that, and still play some decent games. Also, compared to the Steam Deck you can get a 2280 SSD for half the price than 2230, so there's that value. It's not so much more expensive than the top tier Steam Deck.
@jondasek while I agree the built in ssd is very nice I still haven't actually been upset with my ssd size after using the deck for almost a year. You can just get a microsd and there's not a real noticeable speed issue. Also I personally like labeling cards with the game they have and then plugging them in like using a Nintendo DS back in the day lol
I'd love to see Linus order all these handheld gaming PCs into a tier list :D
that would be awesome, especially if he is taking into account price, as it gives great cheaper options (most likely steamdeck) and super expensive options for the rich gamer.
I've been following this mobile pc scene for a while now but this is the first unit that actually excites me and makes me want to purchase this. $800 isn't even that much for what this thing offers imo. In fact, I was surprised the price didn't start far higher.
it was about 1200 a couple weeks ago
Agreed. This is the first one of these devices that had everything I wanted at the proper price. Plus it uses full size m.2 drives, so I can throw in a 4tb ssd.
@@cactusmanbwl1990 The manufacturer of their default SSDs is apparently looking from comments on indiegogo page for Win 3 pretty shitty, so if you and or me get it, probably replace it with Samsung/Kingston something recent without shadow changed hardware.
The mobile pc handleheld/game types been out for some time.. Only real issue is price/quality control.. build quality will vary and refunds are hard to get. I wouldn't risk the price, only if you know how to repair and can afford it lol. Lot of which is hard to tell a part, as there are plenty of "copy" builds of each other, as the original is lost in all that mess, when you shop direct from china like aliex/baba, etc.
And also how safe is it? what sort of key loggers are installed? that people are unaware of? virus scanners arent really made to pick up "unknown" special ones, custom virus's. I'd probably only keep for gaming with no CCredit cards or extra logins. Thats like having a extra dummy PC just for pirating games.

the GPD 3 was pretty bad, and the were bitching about the steam deck a lot, but i love the GPD XP and now the GPD 4 seems great
I always thought it would be cool if the docks for these had some kind of cooling improvement, like an additional fan or something.
You are probably better off buying a cheap desk fan and calling it a day.
additional fan is a useless gimmick, it wouldn't cool anything unless direct contact with heat pipe.
He must be recovering from an illness because the "Shaggy" voice seemed pretty strong in this video, especially when he got excited.
Set the power button to hibernate. Done.

I hope this product gets fine tuned a little more but I will certainly be buying one!
