    Very well documented Spencer.
    I did this walk, exactly as you described it last year.
    Interesting that this is classed as a grade 1 scramble (Dear Ddu Ridge section)
    Tryfan North Ridge is classed as Grade 1 also, I believe, which to me is a much tougher, harder and steeper route with more potential for injury.
    I would love to see you document the optimum route up that Bad Boy!
    After 30+ ascents, since early 70's, I still manage to go astray and end up labouring up grade 2 or higher sections to avoid backtracking, which presents some potentially serious risk.
    Old age may be a factor, admittedly!
    Best Wishes.

      Thanks. The grades have to do with how technical the route is and how exposed it is. The combination of these dictates the grade. So, for example, Crib Goch is exposed but not technically difficult, and so is a grade 1. Tryfan has some difficult grade 1 routes, because exposure is not too bad on them. My favourite route is a difficult one, but still a grade 1. Up heather terrace, north and little gully. It's a great scramble. I recently did a video of the route. Thanks 👍

    I like your videos,very informative and not like some out there on you tube lasting just 3-4min showing just last pull to the summit. You can clearly see the whole route so you know what you are getting into yourself.I do use viewranger but it only shows you the route to follow not actual terrain and obstacles,so videos like yours are brilliant. Another thing is that you show peaks that many people avoid or don't even know they exist,going for obvious one like Snowdon etc. I like to walk/hike in middle of week when there isn't many people around so you can actually enjoy the peace rather than queuing to the top of Snowdon :)and feeling like you are in the supermarket
    Ps.You were so lucky here with this beautiful weather

      Thanks for that Kris, I started filming with the aim of showing the route accurately because I watched videos and then did routes but found the info sketchy. Very often I found the route to be completely different from the video! I do most of my walking mid week for the same reason, it’s much quieter. ATB Spencer

    It's always exciting when you get to the interior of a mountain - it all starts to look visually impressive and serious all of a sudden. There were a few good pools to swim there. I'm sure a few people have done so during great conditions like here. Good going on the way up. The views were awesome - a few other folks enjoying them to. Enjoyed that. Take care. Mark

      How did your walk go today?

    • @robpitt1259
      @robpitt1259 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Spencer. I actually ended up doing the walk on Monday due to the weather. which actually turned out better because the peak was covered in cloud on the Tuesday.
      What can i say apart from what a great walk that is! You think you're almost near the top then you see that ridge!! Unfortunately i lost the line of the ridge and ended up going to far left so i had to make a right up the boulders until i found it again. by that point i was almost at the top.
      You definitely made it look easy! I mainly do photography but i've recently got myself a "travel drone" and always want to find new places to fly it. I'll send you a link once the footage has uploaded :)

      Rob Pitt nice one. I did exactly the same thing the first time. When you are on the ridge it’s easy to follow but if you follow the path at the beginning you miss the start. Look forward to seeing your drone footage. 👍

    Do you know a link to a GPX file for help with route finding?

    • @OutandaboutwithSpencer
      @OutandaboutwithSpencer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never use gpx routes. You can't really go wrong on most of the route. Just remember to stay close to slope when you go around the top lake and stay on top of the ridge as you go up. Thanks for watching. 👍

    Excellent video, really informative and helpful. Quick question… the route you took down, does that miss out the scramble section?

    • @OutandaboutwithSpencer
      @OutandaboutwithSpencer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. Yes, going down the park is straightforward but if you want more scrambling you can follow the ridge down. 👍

  • @muazhassan99
    @muazhassan99 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks a lot for the very helpful video. I am going to be making my way there by driving from quite a distance, but I'm a little worried about it getting dark before I get back to the car park. Do you remember roughly how long it took you to get to the summit and back to the car?

    • @OutandaboutwithSpencer
      @OutandaboutwithSpencer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's only a half day walk so if you get an early start you can take your time and enjoy it. Take a headtorch in case, it's not a difficult walk down if you do the route in the video. 👍

  • @alifeofgillyuk
    @alifeofgillyuk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm wandering, at any point on the scramble up, should one wish to go further left and re join a path, would that be possible. You mentioned an easier route again lower to the left. Does that path also continue to the summit or is a scramble inevitable at some points. Thinking if my pooch could do this safely 🤔

    • @OutandaboutwithSpencer
      @OutandaboutwithSpencer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You would have to scramble up at some point but it is a bit easier. Saying that, if you are taking a dog, it would be easier to go up from Plas Brenig side. 👍

    • @alifeofgillyuk
      @alifeofgillyuk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OutandaboutwithSpencer thank you. I think I'll do the scramble solo and take the dog another time via Plas brenig. Cheers

      I've done Crimpiau from Caffi Siabod but not Siabod. The scramble up the Daeaer Ddu ridge is well worth the drive to the Bryn Glo car park and it's free to park there. One of the best views in Snowdonia from the summit. Enjoy. 👍
