Attempting the hardest route up Snowdon - Crib Goch

  • I had always wanted to go back and summit Snowdon via Crib Goch, a Grade 1 scramble in Snowdonia, Wales. It is widely considered the most challenging route to the top. The highest point in England and Wales is a popular one, and for good reason. The views are spectacular.
    If anyone you know is thinking of a Snowdon hike, share this video with them.
    -- Do your research before taking on this ridge: it can be treacherous, especially in bad weather conditions so prepare well to keep yourself and others safe --

    Me and two mates just did this route accidentally the other day, we thought it was the pyg track.. needless to say we were terrified but none the less made it across in one piece, beautiful day and no wind thankfully. Amazing experience but I’m not rushing to do it again and as a not so experienced hiker it was definitely a lesson to be more discerning about routes that my friend picks out at 3am without knowing what they are!

    I went over crib with my young son quite a few years ago. He absolutely loved it. Some years later as a 30 something adult he returned to cross it with some friends and could barely believe he had done it at 12 years of age.

    Brilliant, did the mountain when I was 14 with little experience, other than Scafell Pike. It's definitely an illusion when you're up there. It almost looks like you could walk down. Maybe it's just the fearless young child within me at the time. I didn't appreciate what I'd achieved until my later years. I remember we took my Aunties Border Collie up there and said illusion must be real because he thought he could literally run down the side of the mountain and I remember my Grandad holding onto his leash for dear life!
    Wasn't until we moved onto Snowdon that you could see the sheer drop. Incredible experience. The weather that day was fantastic and definitely helped. Will definitely be going back now I'm in my twenties. Without the Dog of course! (He is still alive)
    Good memories, this video took me back. Thanks for sharing.

    You can't get more British than that, queuing to summit a mountain! The last time I did Snowdon was the end of a three peaks challenge. We summited via the Pyg track after Ben Nevis and Scarfell Pike, took us just 1.5 hours. The weather was glorious and hot so we swam in that lake you were skimming stones on. I then put my undercrackers on my rucksack to dry on the hike down... They disappeared, now somewhere on the mountain, along with your hat. Great video 👍😁

    You should watch the video 'Welsh3000s - Colin Donnellys World Record', he starts at Snowdon summit and runs down over Crib Goch, then down the north ridge to Nant Peris just a mile from Llanberis, in 37 minutes, as a fell runner myself I find it hard to comprehend how anyone can run over Crib Goch so fast, unbelievable!

    I love Crib Goch, the Snowdon horseshoe route is one of my faves. Its a difficult call to make, but if it were me leading a group that size, I would have turned back due to the high winds and saved it for another day. The sudden gusts can easily cause an injury and then things can get very challenging. Great video.

    • @thisisjogon
      @thisisjogon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It’s incredible isn’t it. I hear you, the only problem is it can be just as if not more dangerous to down-climb in those conditions, once you’re up there it feels safer to just continue carefully along the route. Would love to go back and do the horseshoe. Thanks for watching Mike, appreciate it!
