I am a complete beginner who, because I am no artist, can make repeated attempts to produce a decent little painting with no pressure and no expectation. Your tutorials are a delight to watch; perhaps I'll be abler to do some of what you are doing one day, but just watching and listening to you while you work is so peaceful. Despite not having real talent to speak of, just the attempt has been great for me. Your tutorials are at once peaceful, informative and encouraging. Thank you so much for this little island of calm and sanity amidst so much discord... Kindest regards....robert
Robert, you are an artist in the making! Not fluffing your feathers, it’s truth. Art isn’t about talent, it’s about skills learned, time invested to hone those skills (practice) & persistence to keep going. All artists go through growing pains of frustration & self doubt. Push through that, quiet the negative chatter & you will begin to see improvements, learning from trial and error, gaining confidence with each piece. How many tries does it take to learn to ride a bike well? Same principle applies to art & any new endeavor. Hang in there & hush that naysayer in your head. Hope this encourages you!
Thank you for writing the thoughts running through my mind. When I start, dare I say, a painting, it is always with a hope and a prayer. I hear that through the process, there’s a period of uncertainty, boy do I feel uncertain but I also refuse to give up because it’s not my style. I will continue to work at getting better, some day I might even call myself an artist.♥️
Since I found your channel I have discovered a new world and I am fascinated with watercolours. Thank you very much for sharing all your knowledge. You are very very generous. I have no words to thank you for everything you teach and encourage us. You are a true teacher, who transmits his knowledge, with good humor, and who knows how to bring out the best in a person. Your book is very good, but your step-by-step videos are amazing. Happy to have discovered your channel and although I still don't know how to paint, I really enjoy a lot what I'm going to do thanks to you. Greetings from Pamplona.
Amazing amazing! I wish you had a book on just these water techniques in a step by step so we could keep it by our easel! Also, please help with a fog video, fog horizons, fog skies, fog distant headlands…..help me pleeze💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕🙏
Paul, thank you so much for your lessons! You cannot imagine how useful and inspiring they are! And it doesn't matter that we live in different countries, I consider you my teacher in watercolour.
This is what I love about watercolor: at first the paint are just blobs on a paper and then they magically transform into an image.... You are awesome Paul!
Lovely paintings. I love water, sea, river, lake, stream etc and I really want to paint it properly. So this tutorial was just what I needed. And I love the little touches of humour. ‘Orange uniforms……no, not Guantanamo Bay’. Lol. 😂
I had no idea that I was going to watch 3 of your tutorials on waves, water & reflections this morning, but I'm glad I did - excellent tips and ideas for beginners and improvers. It's lovely to see your mixing palette so that I can see the water/pigment ratio which is always something that I could improve on. Brilliant tutorial - thanks Paul x
Thank you so much Paul, another great tutorial. I found the rough sea particularly interesting and effective, and the wave was amazing to watch as it took shape. Plenty to keep us going until next week !
I’ve watched numerous videos and went straight out and bought a watercolour set and have been flying through my pad trying everything. I’ve always been afraid of trying this but I tell your lessons are so valuable I’m accomplishing alt thanks a million
Thank you for this tutorial, Paul! I've never seen/had one, but I watched an artist use one the other day and was fascinated. Looks fantastic for florals and landscapes. So happy to have found you on TH-cam! I enjoy not only your painting, but the calm atmosphere you create while doing so.
You’re really amazing! It looks so easy to do, but I struggle all the time. I will try and try until I get the same results as you. Thank you very much for teaching us! 🙏🏼😁
Margo was right! after 24 hours of anticipation I am not disappointed, exactly what I needed. Also do you buy a new shirt for every video, or do you have a special room for "video dressing room" I love the water drop. Its so soothing. And as always a perfect tutorial with lots of smiles.
This great - must practice this. Hey, how about a lighthouse? I saw one of your paintings of a lighthouse and it was terrific. I’m not sure I’ve ever even seen a lighthouse. We don’t seem to have them here in Hawaii. But they do make an interesting subject because you have the sky, the lighthouse and of course the sea. Anyway it’s just a thought.

Hi, Paul. I somehow missed this marvelous water tutorial earlier this winter, when I was struggling mightily with the advice and examples of other watercolor artists. Now, here you are, offering us simpler, straightforward, and proven techniques to create different "looks" in water, including ROUGH water, which other artists usually avoid or fail at. Thank you so much, Chris (Maine, USA)
After many years of not painting I recently took out a little 12 colour watercolour set my husband bought me years ago. Somebody ones told if you don't know what to paint, paint the things you love and guess what I chose the most difficult subject.....the sea! Thanks so much for this tutorial! I'm looking forward to watching all your tutorials😊😊😊
Can’t tell you how wonderful it is to find tutorials that have five different scenarios in ways to paint trees, seascapes, water, rivers, rocks! Thank you for your generosity and sharing these 🙏
Hi Paul, I have started to explore water colour after a diagnosis of metastatic oesopageal cancer. I have always appreciated art but your generosity in sharing the joy of water colour has been inspirational. Thank you.. I number my water colours in an attempt to reduce my judgement of good or bad. for me it the challenge and relaxation combined with the ability to allow the water to work. Im not painting its water colour and has a life of its own. Im finding values and perspective very challenging so thank you for you attention to detail. Frank
Those 5 were magical jewels. I'm enjoying finding your past tutorials ...are you currently making new ones? Thank you again so much for posting such useful and delightful bits!
I am amazed how quickly your watercolors take shape and the picture emerges. I have put my craft supplies aside for a while and am ready and anxious to restart . Thank you ever so much it is important to me to keep busy with my disabilities/immobility there are still many things I can do and I feel so lucky to have stumbled upon your youtube videos.
