Awesome! Why did it take me over a month of watching other limited value, overly chatty videos, before I finally found Paul. Wow, what a difference. Paul's explanations and demonstrations are more efficient and effective than any others viewed on TH-cam. Something is wrong with TH-cam's algorithms as I spent weeks looking for a good fit. The searches kept bringing up the same five or six artists that did not meet my needs. Then finally I came upon one of Paul's videos by accident and after that I immediately subscribed. His sense of humor is a happy bonus. Loved the Bob Ross tribute!

Yes, there's a lot of "tutorials" out there from folks who have no idea what they are doing. It takes a moment to figure out who to follow and who to ignore.

‘Are you sitting comfortably children?’ Is most likely from a radio show in England, when I was a child in England..It was called ‘Listen with mother’ and it would start with ‘Are you sitting comfortably?’ Then I’ll begin’...So cute...love these classes...make so much sense.

Just happened to see this tutorial mentioned in an art Facebook page and thought I'd look into it. Wow! What a treasure to find! Perspective has always muddled my mind (I'm 72 yrs. young) but this was very clear and concise. Did a little "lookey-loo" into your book , too, and find I must have it!! I'm not a total beginner (5 yrs. into watercolor or any type of art at all) but I find I'm never beyond learning more of the basics. I love this little painting as well and will give it a go. Thank you very your generous teaching. Happy New Year from California!

Watching you paint reminds me of my late husband. He was a lifelong professional artist and couldn't make a mistake. I've been an artist, and a journalist, and a mother, and for a time, a barmaid. Giggle. Until I retired I rarely had time to paint, now, I have long endless days to play. I do have to worry about eyestrain though after 8 or 10 hours hunched over the easel.

I remember my teacher trying to explain perspective to me and I finally just said I understood when I did not have a clue.
After watching this I realize that it helps if the one teaching understands the principles.
Many excellent artists just understand intuitively or they are good copyists and simply paint what they see.
I don't think you get this instruction even in many art schools.
Thank you so much. I learned a lot.

Andrea Marr, lol I have done the same thing sooooo many times throughout school when I still didn't understand something, even after asking questions about 3 times for the same problem lol. I could tell if the teachers were getting annoyed by me not understanding something, so I always ended up saying, Oh Yes I See it Now, 🤣🤣🤦‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙆‍♀️🤷‍♀️ Honestly I still do that every once in a while. 🥰🤭

Thank you Paul for all your instructions in perspective and painting and anything else you share with us. You are by far the best painting teacher I have found on TH-cam. You take the time to tell us everything and make your video fun and informative. You tell us the color’s and the ratios. So important to any beginner like me who wants to succeed in following your lessons. Even if they aren’t the same when I do it, it will be close. I’ve been teaching decorative painting in acrylics for 40 years and know the qualities of a good instructor. You are one fantastic teacher!!!

Hi Paul. I am very new to drawing and painting and the thing I love to draw are buildings. However, my brain has been unable to grasp perspective. I have watched numerous TH-cam videos promising ‘the only video you will ever need’ etc and practiced over and over. Because I didn’t understand it my drawings always looked terrible. I discovered your channel a few days ago and absolutely love your work and the way you teach. As Tina would say…. Better than all the rest 🎼. Today this video popped up and I got it - immediately. You showed perspective in a way that my brain could understand and I am so excited to start my first scene in perspective 🎉. Thank you so much Paul.

I love the fireside chat. 😎 As a mathematician who studied engineering, the idea of freehand sketching is well outside of my ability. I’m so happy I found you so I can pull out my drafting tools next to my watercolors. My drafting tools are over 30 years old; my watercolors are about 2 years old. The logic rules my brain, but I love painting! Thanks for your amazing videos.

WOW! I really needed this video because my perspective and angles (roofs, gables etc) is a nightmare. But this explained it so well. What a relief. Thank you.

When I was ia youngster I took 2 semesters of perspective drawing in college. I could do it but it was always a struggle- thamks for making things much clearer the second time around. Love you sense of humour too Paul- always a delight!

Absolutely love your style! You explain everything in such a comprehensive way, not just painting showing off 'look at my skills' as many artists tend to do in 'tutorials'. I feel sure that I can use your methods and techniques to strengthen my confidence in putting pen and paint to paper.

Great explanation of vanishing points which I have never really got before but will now give a go. Love line and wash as it is so much easier to do when en plein air. I also like the illustrative look it has. Many thanks.
