What an amazing (and selfless) art teacher you are, Mr. Clark! With you on our side, anyone can produce masterpieces with enough practice. Thank you for inspiring me to try my hand at watercolour again (it ended in disaster the last time).
I hate to say disaster because nothing is really a disaster when painting however that is part of the process. If we don’t make mistakes how are we ever gonna get better. we, I learn from our, my mistakes right? Keep painting keep the passion find your inspiration.
Wow, where have you been all of my painting life??? 😉🎨 I have to say I LOL’d on the sheep description with the white pastel pencil. I could tell what breed they were from here. Well kidding but funny none the less. 🐑🐑🐑 I so enjoy your tutorials and have learned so much. Thank you for your time. 😊
Unlike most demonstration and tutorial videos on watercolour painting you give clear explanations of what you are doing; and I love your sense of humour. Top quality.
This video is now my favorite of all your tutorials. I like that you not only teach new techniques, but you do this with interesting backgrounds. I'm trying to recreate your beautiful sheep field for my 93 year old father who once raised sheep and is now enjoying painting. I know he'll love it. Talking about painting gives us a way to connect during this scary pandemic. We talk every night by phone (he's 1000 miles away - about 1600 kms :). Thank you, Paul. I don't think you even know the impact you have made with so many people like me. You've given us a goal, and you've given us a connection to others. "Thank you" doesn't seem like enough. You are so appreciated.
I discovered this tutorial by chance and I think it's among the best ones I have ever watched so far. This is really amazing! Please keep making new tutorials. Thank you very much.
I'm a newbie and so intimidated by all the beautiful work everybody else does. Thanks for making these techniques so accessible to someone like me. So excited to try them out when I'm off work. Thank you!
Just fell upon you by chance, and so pleased I did. Been painting a few years now but still very much a novice as never had a lesson and never improved - “All the gear, but no idea”! Great lesson thanks, and I do love a bit of splatter! I think I’ve found my mentor!😳👍
Welcome Dilys! - and many thanks 😳👍 I've only being doing this for six months so there is lots more to come! - have you seen the other videos? :th-cam.com/channels/C2uMZ7qWrsCUorYdZbi8OA.html
Finally! Someone who I actually want to learn from! Never been a fan of "loose" styles, preferring a tad more detail in watercolors. Yours are that perfect balance of invitation of detail into imagination.
Gracias Paul, eres muy claro en tu enseñanzas; conviertes en fácil lo que no es. Thank Paul, you are so clear in yours teachings; you make easy what is not. Greetings from Chile.
Super tutorial! Your teaching ability is far beyond some other watercolorists I've watched. Can't wait to make myself a "manky" brush. So simple and pretty with the purple flowers.
You are such an inspiration on painting and techniques! I have always liked painting in watercolors but could never let myself loosen up until I found your videos which have made me freely use colors and brushstrokes more. Thank you for your joyful and great videos. 🙏🏼
Wonderful instruction. And, I really like how you showed your paintings at the end to let us see how you incorporated those techniques. Thank you Paul! Seems like I am not the only one who said "just discovered" you! Keep up the good work.
I loved it too. I was a technical illustrator, but what I had wanted to do was illustration, especially with watercolor. So now Im older & doing my own thing, so trying my hand at illustration & of all things, I cant imagine how to paint grass! I can do a medical centrifuge! Thank you SO much!!
I really enjoyed this video. I learned so much about painting grasses. I look forward to giving all of these methods a try. And to watching more of your tutorials.
Thank you! Can't get over all the amazing little things you do to make a painting so multi layered and effective, and for sharing those things with us wannabe artists! I'll be following many of your tutorials and would love information on your vacation art trips. Donna.
Wow, seeing those earlier paintings of yours, it really shows how you’ve developed as an artist from “perfect” paintings to loose perfect paintings. Thanks for these tips. You make it look so easy. With practice, maybe I’ll be as good as you one day.
This is so helpful as usual, Paul. Thank you. Your painting's at the end of the video are wonderful, love the "Footpath" and "The Rose" charming. Now, run along and get those bins out! 😊🎨
I went and sat on the bank of a canal with a friend so we could firstly make the most of the lovely sunshine before it rained but mainly to enjoy painting with watercolour. I haven’t done a watercolour since I was a child. I really enjoyed the experience of going out and doing the painting, but having brought it home to do the details I am really struggling. This tutorial, I hope will help with the general greenery and your brick video has been really useful for the canal bridge portion. It’s hard to know how much detail to go into. Thank you for sharing all these great techniques.
First time viewer here and I enjoyed watching your techniques. I appreciate the use of your white pastel, too because sometimes we forget we can incorporate other mediums to add accents and texture to our paintings. A good example is digging out our watercolor/colored pencils to add a touch of color here and there if we don't happen to have the right watercolor paint. The finished paintings you showed at the end have that rustic, country feel, which I really admire and appreciate!
Love the tutorials Paul, you demystify a lot stuff, thank you. I've had your book for a while too and it's great to see some of the techniques in action through your videos. Keep em coming!
I just found your channel today and subscribed. You are so generous with your talent. I’m just learning watercolors and I’m very excited to have found your channel. I also went to Amazon and found your book which I will be purchasing very soon. It’s sitting in my cart as we speak, LOL. This video on grasses is awesome! Thank you so much! Oh, as you mentioned suggestions for painting, I would love to see a Paris theme. Perhaps a street scene or a café. I was blessed to have been given a trip there last year, and it was just the best!
Hi Jean many thanks and welcome aboard!!! ... thanks for purchasing my book too! ... let me know how you get on. Thanks for the suggestion of Paris - it's one of my fav places too! - Have you seen my 'Blur Door' video? it was painted in France and I have a Paris Cafe scene at the end. - th-cam.com/video/AkCO4dDEh4M/w-d-xo.html
I love your tutorials! Concise, to the point and exactly what a struggling beginner and intermediate needs. My grass and rocks looked so childish and I had no idea what to do about it. Thank you!!!
I have just discovered you! Loving the videos, especially grasses, trees, rocks and walls. So clear and relaxed. Your book also arrived today so I’m hoping my art is going to improve!! Thank you so much Paul.
I needed to send my doctor a Thank you card... So, I painted the #4 painting on a piece of watercolor paper that was 7" x 10". I added a tan coloring at the bottom to take the place of sand. Fold it in-half, write the note on the inside and send it off! Sign and date the back of the card (in the grass), because it "is" a watercolor painting. Thanks for inspiring me to do this!
This is such a wonderful video with excellent tips. You are so generous to share with us. Would you be able to walk us through one of your complicated paintings from beginning to end? I know that would require a lot of time. I especially love the signs that you incorporate in your paintings. Thank you, Paul. I love your humor. The sheep are great!
Paul, I really enjoyed your techniques with watercolor. Grass is not always easy and you make it look very easy. Thank you so much. I've been painting for a number of years and watercolor has always been a challenge. Thank you. Loretta
Thanks so much, for your wonderful explanations of things. At 66 yrs. of age, I have dabbled here and there with various crafts., including oil landscapes. I begin a new art class this week and I’m excited to study beginner’s art and hopefully to work into watercolors.
THANK MR. PAUL FOR THE INFORMATION YOU ARE GIVING US BEGINNERS AT PAINTING BECAUSE I AM AN INKER OR I NORMALLY USE INKS WHEN I DRAW SO THANK YOU AGAIN MR. PAUL
Love you Paul. You’re funny, talented, and, May I say, not full of yourself. Some artists just take themselves way too seriously. We are, after all, imitating the Great Artist, our Great Creator, and there’s got to be some joy in that.
What an amazing (and selfless) art teacher you are, Mr. Clark! With you on our side, anyone can produce masterpieces with enough practice. Thank you for inspiring me to try my hand at watercolour again (it ended in disaster the last time).

100% selfless! Well said.
I hate to say disaster because nothing is really a disaster when painting however that is part of the process. If we don’t make mistakes how are we ever gonna get better. we, I learn from our, my mistakes right? Keep painting keep the passion find your inspiration.

Your paintings are just beautiful
Thank you so much 😀
