Thank you for the comparation of these two devices, so similar yet so diferent. Although I already liked more the X13 before watching your video, I have no doubt now of which one I will buy! (once I can afford it, of course 🙄). Knowing that you also have the first generation of the X13, I wonder if you plan on doing an in-deep comparation abount the 2021 vs 2022 models. It would really be intresting knowing how big the step is in this new generation. Thanks!

    Thanks for the comparison!
Really useful and interesting. I would love to see how these two would manage unreal engine. Do you think is something doable for you?
Anyway in my opinion your feeling is legit but it will really depends how each one wants to use it. In my case, I have a very powerful desktop machine at home provided by my company with 3080 64go with a production processor etc, so not limited at all in any way. But for my personal work, I don’t want to use the workstation so much if I can avoid it. I had to find a computer powerful enough to do unreal engine personal dev, shaders and ui, photoshop and 3D modeling with pencil, and also all administrative stuff. More than that, this computer has to let me continue my work when I’m moving for other places.
X13 and Z13 4K versions was both completely indicated for this. I hesitated a long time, but I decided finally to run with the Z13 (the only available currently in france). Which one I ordered yesterday.
Until I saw your review which changed my mind for the reasons you mentioned, and also for the 32go of ram available on the version I need! I was not aware about the AMD performance and your bench are so helpful. I ordered online, so today I will be able to cancel and wait for the new X13.
Have you any idea when it should be available?
As the The Z13, the X13 will perfectly match with my home setup. With my desktop, I am using a Logitech MX Keyboard and MX Master mouse. The keyboard is able to be paired with 3 devices, easily switchable by pressing one key. I’m using also an iPad and I wanted to be able to arrange easily my desk with my personal computer on it, without taking any useless space on the desk, like with a classic gaming laptop. The both Z13 and X13 would be completely enough for my use, and even if I could remove the keyboard on the Z13 to make it stand under or on the side of one of my screens, I’ll finally be able to do the same with the X13 (which have a a more neutral design), an switch super easily between the both computers.
    Thanks again for the review!

I am afraid to go with the Surface Pro because I don't know whether this is possible. The x13 seems to be a middle ground. Do you know whether the i5 or in the worst case i7 version of the Surface Pro can do Immersed? Games are not required.

Wish you did a battery life comparison on these bad boys. One thing I wish Asus did with the x13 is provide a 3:2 aspect ratio. Any time I see a thick bezel at the bottom of the screen my thought is that these companies should just provide the next best aspect ratio. 16:10 is still great but I can't help but feel cheaped out when the price on the x13 is very premium already.

Also would be interesting to know what the difference performance in games would be if we compare dGPU/iGPU, maybe in more esports oriented titles like CS:GO, LoL, Valorant~. It might depends on where you're from, also there were different versions available last year.
I think the version without the XGM was 2021 at its release (with the internal GTX 1650 GPU) around $1'600. The X13 2022 is now listed for $ 2'200 (wiith the XGM it costs $3'500).
So quite a difference! This is in Switzerland.
The prices for the Z13 are $2'700 without and $3'900 with the XGM combo (absolutely ridiculous pricing!).
I bought the Flow X13 Supernova Edition (XGM RTX 3080) at it's release in 2021. It was listed for around $3'200 (I got it with a discount for $3'000).
So the new Z13 XGM Bundle is some mad $800 more expensive! And the X13 XGM bundle $300 more.
When I learned about the X13 in early 2021, I was super excited! But when something new hits the market that could be revolutionary, I usually would wait for a second if not third edition, just to be sure it can meet the hype and also to get a version that is improved upon some potential issues that might were reported (see Steam Deck). But I'm happy having bought it last year, I haven't had any issues at all.
To me the 2022 editions don't seem to be that much better to justify the higher price tags. Now I'm curious about future models after 2022.
Btw. if you wanna see my setup, there's a video on my channel.

Few times Micro SD card did not register on boot up and required a restart /card removal to register. The plastic on the front sides corners can be squishy. It is surprisingly heavy. With my XG Mobile there have been hiccups after properly disconnecting where forced shutdown of apps causes computer unable to fully shut down or restart without holding power button. Minor issues. It feels much heavier so definitely keeping my X13 as my school laptop. Overall it is interesting but hard to justify it with the MSRP.

      mgtuts.com/autocad/how-much-ram-is-needed-for-cad-programs.html
I'm no expert on CAD, but seems like 32GB would be a "nice to have" feature but not "essential" especially if you want to use this device all the way through your program... I also want to buy the 32GB / 4K version of the 2022 X13, but I don't have any source for it yet... eventually that 32GB version might be available on newegg or online somewhere.. or it is possible that ASUS will release a refreshed "Supernova" edition w/ 32GB. but the price premium might be pretty drastic compared to the Best Buy model. Tough call, but 16GB generally should be ok. Also I would take the 16GB Ryzen 6000 w/ DDR5 and 3050 Ti over the 32GB supernova with Ryzen 500 and DDR4 / 1650 GPU.

Great Comparison! The Flow Z13 is conceptually sound but the implementation lacks finesse...they sure could have gone with a stealthier exterior for the tablet (instead of the gamery 06 lettering and cutout RGB window). The XG mobile/eGPU has been plagued by supply issues ever since it launched...but with the new top of the line Radeon option (that would make the Flow X13 an all-AMD system!) and with SAM enabled it would be interesting to see the benchmarks then.

Please help me since you are a surface guy. I cant decide between surface pro and x13, i want to do digital drawing, photoshop stuff and light 3d work. The surface pro will cost me quite a bit more for 16gb spec with pen and keyboard than top specced x13(32gb, 1tb, 6900hs and a 3840x2400 screen). I feel like x13 make more sense from bang for buck, but if drawing is so subpar on it then it might be a deal breaker.

I own an X13 (2022, 6900HS, 3050Ti) and to be honest i dont really get the point of the Z13. With the Keyboard attached it is thicker and heavier than the X and the performance (without the eGPU) is worse while costing more money. To your Pen test: i see that is not an Asus Pen. I bought an Asus Pen for mine and it worked much better than the Surface Pen. Also, what program was that? Different programs give very different results aswell. OneNote has some very decent results with the pen. Since the Panel on both models are exactly the same i see no reason for the Z to be performing any better than the X. Anyway, i cant recommend the X enough, i love it

    • @cbutters
      @cbutters  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

62Wh on X13 vs 56Wh on Z13. Haven't had the 2022 x13 long enough to test.. but almost certainly the X13 will last longer. When loading cpu and GPU asus has tuned them to use about the same wattage. the wildcard is the idle / video / mild workloads which could go either way, but I suspect the X13 will beat out the Z13 as most other reviewers experienced battery life.

two different form factors cutters!! you can't compare them. If you want a notebook experience then its the X and if you want a tablet experience go the Z. I have both and I prefer the Z over the X just for the excellent design and taking it the next level on that design.

NOBODY show you how does it looks like after longer period with regular using (i am SW developer). DO NOT BUY ASUS ROG if you want to have good looking tool for longer than 1 year of using !!
