No need to apologize for being you, for days when you're squirmy, for days when your hair or makeup isn't done... you're a mother and a farmer. 'Nuff said. Also, I think "critters" is a southern thing. (I've heard it my entire life!)

We too have a farm and 8 kids (ages 1 - 15) and have learned to be very selective with the animals we bring onto our farm. The temperament and history of an animal are so very important when you have children who are going to be helping and learning around them.

I’d love that too! But Angie has said in the past that not all of her children like to be on camera. I’m just guessing based on the frequency we see some of the older kids (for example we see Jonah and Shelby a lot more than Kennedy and Noah) that some of them wouldn’t feel comfy with filming a q and a.

hi! just a comment about the kids wanting reptiles (from a herptile keeper)... you mentioned chameleons, although they are "cool" they are not kids pets and they're definitely not for a beginner reptile owner. not very friendly and don't like to be handled either. geckos are okay, but pretty fast. I'd recommend looking into bearded dragons!! They're very hardy lizards and make a great first reptile pet! they're also super friendly and eat mostly vegetation as adults, so less bugs if that's something that freaks you out😂 they're super cute little guys, they'll bond with their owners❤

I am on the same level as you when it comes to shelter animals. A lot of shelter animals come with pre-existing issues / baggage. And most of the time if people read the requirements for adopting a shelter dog most of the time it'll say "does not do well with children" or "does not do well with other dogs" or "does not get along with cats needs to be in a quiet home preferably a single person" like, you can't just go and get a pet and bring it home. It's not that easy. I wish it was, but they need to do what's best for the animal and a lot of these animals come with trauma behind them and a multi-animal home filled with loud screaming children isn't always the ideal situation for the pet. ❤️

I'm all for rescues when it fits. I lost my 14.5 year old Shepherd to cancer last June, I have birds in the house that are not caged 24/7, I needed to get a puppy so it would learn to leave the birds easily. Still a risk, but a rescue dog not only required home studies and large fees, but it was an older dog whose training I had no clue of. My puppy is not purebred, he was an accident and he literally was being raised in a camper. It was getting cold out and the people just wanted money for propane for heat. So my pup cost 60 dollars. He is a hunting breed and shows interest in the birds but does not go for them. He does hunt mice and squirrels and other things though, which works out great being a country dog whose off leash at home. Long story short, would've loved a rescue but it simply did not work with my home, property or other pets.

    • @Alryeght
      @Alryeght 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Honestly I don't count "accident" puppies/animal babies as getting them from a breeder. They'd either live in odd living situations or be brought to a shelter at some point anyways. I always wanted to get an old cat from a shelter, but 1 German shelters are strict as heck, and 2 a friend of mine found a pregnant stray cat. So I adopted two "accident" kittens.

I'm a preschool teacher and I sometimes call the kids "critters!" Of course, it usually only happens when we're playing and being silly, but I prefer it to calling them "things." Example: "Aren't you a sweet little thing?" vs. "Aren't you a sweet little critter?"

Ang- there absolutely NO REASON why you should have to spend one minute trying so show certain kids on each video. That’s not how life works. You’re creating content and if a child, CR, your an animal pops into the screen well that’s all it should be. Folks need to be more realistic and they need to stop attempting to control YOUR job. I wish people would just quit complaining and trying to tell you what’s wrong or right 🤬

I love that your children get to run and roam around the property. Growing up in an apartment in the city I was always scared of animals and really didn’t get much outside time. It would be great to have part-time help around the place. Perhaps a college or high school student or an older “ALICE” to help with the household chores.

I love guniea pigs and I had one in high school---so cute. We "had" a fish and now have a pet mouse and they are both so hard to remember to feed and change bedding for. I agree.

    Hello from France (Paris),
it's crazy how an hour-long video can feel so short! It's a good late afternoon, commuted back from work type of video to watch (on the subway)
Loved your Q&A and love all of your videos. (even more when you try to speak French !)

I was at the feed store today and saw some ducklings. I was really tempted to get some more. We butchered ours a few years back. Love their eggs and meat but don't like how messy they get. They would have to be penned in or they'd be in the cow's water tanks! But man they're so cute when they're little.

ps: thanks for including us for feedback with the cabin floorplan. Wondering if the striped couch could fit under the left 2 front windows and then push a round cafe table with 2 chairs up against it and the wall. Almost like a 'cafe lounge' vibe. You might love something like a rectangle ottoman that can be pushed around the room to be used for whatever purpose you need. 🤷‍♀️
Anyway... So excited to see what you come up with! 🤓🤣

We lost our 14 year old Pyrenees last June. In late October we brought home a labradoodle from a breeder and omg when I posted it on my FB page, some of the comments weren’t so nice. I have 4 kids and 2 have autism so we just had to do what was right for our family. (Nevermind we have two rescue chihuahuas)

Just an idea since you made these videos for people refer back to when they have a farm question and I know it’d be a little time consuming, but you could add time stamps for each question so people can go straight to that question instead of watching two videos trying to find it! I mean, I’m gonna watch both hour long videos but, ya know, some people have a lot less free time than me 🤪🤣🤣

Your farm is coming along so nicely! I’ve really enjoyed learning about the animals. I’m not sure I’d ever want quite so many, but It seems like you and CR are doing a great job with all of it. I agree with you about the skills that kids are learning/need to learn. We moved to a suburb area style home for now for several reasons but I dream of land and an older home and a small hobby style farm some day I wish we were able to do it when all our kids are young but that’s just not possible especially with a child with intense special needs- this is a different season of life so we roll with it, right?

If your boys want a reptile maybe you could consider a tortoise! They make amazing pets, are generally hardy, and since you live in a warm climate could be outside in a enclosure at least part of the year! I have had two in my life and loved them so much! I could totally see a tortoise cruising around your yard with the rest of your animals :)

Taking in rescues is great but they often have special needs that you might not be able to offer with eight kids. Most of the dogs that I know who are rescues have animal PTSD. They would not be comfortable around kids or other animals. They need extra care and love. Also in our case we have a niece who can’t have most kinds of pets do to allergies. So she has to get pets who are guaranteed to not mess with her health.

It is a new word for me as a Swede but when I translated it the meaning in Swedish is small animals. I guess it is more common when you have actuall farms. Funny though critter and critters is two different things, critters is small bugs. 😃
