The all-new Fiat 500 is here, and it’s got a surprise in store for you… It’s gone 100% electric!
That’s right, the cute little 500 is now only available as an EV. With it, you get a choice of two sizes of battery. The smaller is a 24kWh battery which will give you a range of 115 miles, while the larger one (which we’re reviewing here) is a 42kWh, which will provide you with 199 miles of range.
In terms of the design, on the outside you’ll find a handful of minor updates, but it’s on the inside where the 500’s had a real overhaul, with an all-new infotainment system and a big style upgrade!
The problem is, while it initially looks good, once you get a bit more up close & personal you realise the quality isn’t all that great! So when you’re spending a minimum of £23,000 on one, coupled with the fact there are so many small EVs to choose from these days, is it really think it’s worth it?!

I love the direction some of these manufacturers are taking. Redesigning their old designs and making them futuristic but still down to earth. I'm loving it
I watched the reimagined designs of the original mini cooper and porsche 911. they do look astonishingly beautiful.

Yeah, I wish Alfa Romeo would jump in on this trend. They have some amazing classics that could be brought back as EVs or restomods and it's something 3rd party companies have caught on (Alfaholics, Totem etc.)

@@TheGlobalExpats I drove mostly in and around town. But we did do some excursions to farer distances. No regrets so far, but a lot of fun. It has around 3,500 km on the clock in the meantime. I would buy it again.
For anybody watching from Italy, the government actually puts so many incentives on this car you can buy it at just €16000, a much more reasonable price

Hi Stefano yes this incentives are real BUT are up at North regions. Here in center Italy as we called it “GREEN HEART OF ITALY” doesn’t exist... very sad for Umbria 😔

I love the 500e. Ordered my new 1 in October and finally get on Wednesday...at end of March!!!! Nonetheless, I can't wait until Wednesday.
I test drove the Renault Zoe and the Honda...but for me the 500e stood out a mile.....joy of choosing cars, totally subjective

It depends on the geography and climate. In my town (Northern Norway) big electric SUVs are very popular since the geography is rough, the roads are often full of holes and very uneven because of hard winters, we have snow most of the year (higher cars don't get stuck as much) and they're a comfortable ride. I personally have an EQC and I love it. I would hace gotten a smaller car if I lived in a big city with warmer climate though because massive cars make it harder to find parking.

The spoiler on the back is actually a camback. It reduces aerodynamic drag by improving air separation at the back and also gives engineers a way to further follow the ideal teardrop shape without lengthening the car.
I would buy either one in a heartbeat.. Unfortunate that they aren't sold in U.S. :( It seems that automakers have abandoned all of us city-dwellers who don't like big cars.
This is easily the best-looking Fiat to date! That matte grey finish looks incredible.

The Honda reminds me a lot to cars seen in 70ies/80ies Japanese animes. Ironically the original Fiat 500 is the iconic car in all "Lupin, the third" Japanese movies and series since 1972. There was always a special cultural love relationship between Japan and Italy. Love to see this review. Greetings from Italy.

If you mean the 2016 rear engine model, these are now attracting very high residuals because they are very scarce as a result of Renault cancelling them two years ago here in the UK.

It's true, little outside but with plenty of room inside BUT...there's a reason why moderne cars are bigger outside and smaller inside : reinforcment for crash. It takes room and weight.
A 2000' twingo is great but it has the same crashtest note as a trashcan

Being a 500 freak (the clue is in my TH-cam name), I really love it. Too pricey but I would definitely have one. Those noises on the brakes are a bit weird though.

What would be nice on any electric car review is to let us know exactly what it would cost to do X number of miles in it. Seeing the cost savings could persuade more people to go electric when you can compare it against a petrol/diesel car.

I'm Italian, Fiat 500 has a special place in my hearth, my mother owned a Fiat 500 L, but to be honest Honda E is on another level, I just love it.

It's a hard choice as to which car I prefer. I like both the Fiat 500 and the Honda E but I'm concerned about the Honda's range and I like the (nearly a) convertible option on the Fiat. If the cars had identical range and the Honda had a convertible option, I think I'd choose the Honda but as things are, I'd choose the Fiat - the convertible, please!

@@magnustan841 yeah, I just bought new clio with EVERYTHING what I possibly could pack into it and payed 23 000 euro. I was curious how much I need to pay for a Mercedes to get all electronic gadgets and safety systems I have in my small Clio. I took one from the website for like 43 000 euro and i literally needed to spend 15 000 more on options, because a car for fucking 43 000 euros does not have even heated seats and rear camera xD It's bollocks. I have 360 cameras with sensors in my stupid "cheap" car xD I know that mercedes has much better quality of intererior, engine and so on, but man... 15 000 more it's just way to much.

This is my second time seeing this guy, and I must say I love his work. In terms of car review he’s not as long time jaded as Chris Harris is now so he’s I feel his excitement (with editing helping). Coasting is the best strategy to maximize range. Regenerative braking is transforming only part of the kinetic energy of the vehicle to chemical energy.
If you can coast down the road and stop with the minimum amount of "engine" braking then you will get the most out of a charge.
Still note that regenerative braking is always better than friction braking and when driving downhill can definitely help you control the speed of the vehicle.

Yes, the seatbelts are annoying when putting the rear seats back up. But you’ll be amazed by how much you can carry with those seats down. The interior is high and this little car has amazed my wife and me with how much you can transport in it.

Pretty cool for cities with good road quality and for small Islands with mountain roads like Madeira/La Palma etc. Range would be enough to make any ride and going on mountain roads would be a breeze + you charge car when are descending not just lising energy.

They both look very cool and have very close price (if you consider comparable full optional specs). I don't think the better rear seats of the Honda are so important: you don't use them often in these cars. I think that the advantage of range and efficiency of the Fiat is a BIG deal, but I'm sure some people will still prefer the Honda on looks alone.
Depends on the customer, of course. Some people living in cities with very small streets might want to use the back seats fairly regularly.
