You can open the door with an app. you can also start the airco with the same app. You could not do this stuff "all mechanical". This is a modern car with modern features. Small does not mean cheap...
Not gonna lie....it's definitely cute. I love that it's actually small and light (by EV standards). Even if its only 120hp, that could be forgiven given it's size...plus it's an electric motor so it's already orders of magnitude more reliable than their ICE cars. Donno if I'd pay $30k+ for one though...
Its a light weight EV?! Oh No! what will happen when you register this in an anti-EV US state that PENALIZES you for your EV choice, under the guise of 'too heavy=break roads[that they do not fix}?
Sorry man but this car is no means light and specially being more reliable, i know the reliability from the original model isn't great but lol this EV version isn't any better.
We had a 2013 500e and it was a charm in the neighborhood. Sometimes we'd come home with more range than we started with. It was shockingly comfortable too. Bit of a scare picking it up initially though - it's not exactly a highway monster
I still have the original first gen 2014 500e it’s been an amazing, reliable car. It has 90,000 miles and it’s going strong I have had basically no issues. I imagine the new version is the same. Probably will upgrade at some point now that my dealer has some in stock too.
Fully legal to have side indicators in the US, many many german cars carry it over to North America, Fiat just decided to cheap out as it isnt a requirement. They probably saved a staggering 25 cent per vehicle by doing it.
Eh…. 10 years ago $35k wasn't "luxury expensive." Even the very cheapest Lexus (the "Prius c with a Lexus badge," the CT200h) in 2014 was $36k, and it wasn't really that luxury. Or expensive. (By contrast, the regular Prius could be specced more expensive than that.) 10 years ago, $35k was "nice medium-highish price". Heck, *20* years ago the Prius could be specced above $35k (as my 2004 Prius was bought for $30k, because we didn't bother with the extra $5000 that only got a couple fairly-useless extra features - HomeLink garage door control (no garage,) a tape deck (and theoretically better speakers,) and a navigation system that would become laughably outdated quickly; which it was.)

I owned a 500e (previous gen) for almost 5 years now, and I can say that it has been a great daily commuter, saved me tons of money in gas, specially since I used to daily a lifted truck. And they are actually relatively fun to drive, pretty zippy and quick off the line. Love pissing off V6 Mustangs at the light because it takes of pretty quick and leaves them behind for most part until the speed limit is reached. With some coilovers and better tires you will lose a bit of range, but it becomes a lot more fun to drive and toss around.
We have had one for about a year and 7.000km. It is a decent city car, but the rear hatch is wrongly designed for the convertible and it is not s well made vehicle. But it is big enough to offer four seat for adults to drive around the city, while the trunk is just big enough for normal shopping. Parking it is always a joy, due to the size. My guess is we will not keep it in two years when the lease runs out.
As someone who doesnt care for EV's, I don't hate this. This is kinda what I always thought electric cars should be, small grocery getters. Now it would make more sense if it was 25k cheaper.
Probably the last bargain EV was the Chevy Bolt. $27,000 MSRP. 249 mile range (has no problem doing a little over 300 miles with mostly city driving). Plenty of interior room. More power available compared to the Fiat 500e. Qualified for the $7500 Fed Rebate. This Fiat 500e is just overpriced for what it is.
Equinox EV? It is more expensive but it’s also bigger with more range and it still qualifies for the tax credit. The Nissan leaf is also a bargain imo it just isn’t a great car unfortunately.
My daughter has a 2019 1957 Edition 500C and we love it. She lives in Astoria, Queens and it’s the perfect city car that she can park just about anywhere. I would absolutely buy an Abarth one however I have zero interest in EV’s and I cannot give up a manual transmission. I have heard that they may start selling ICE versions as well and I certainly am hoping so
very glad they reintroduced this to the U.S market - seemed like it was ahead of its time a few years ago but would fit perfectly in the current lineup of econo-EVs
You would think 120HP and the lightest car in its class would actually make it somewhat sporty, especially considering that electric cars tend to be faster off the line in general! Would love to know what the 0-60 time is, if any!
I live in Greece and the other day after a year of owning mine, I measured it with Dragy and it repeatedly did 0-60mph in 8.01 to 8.02 and 0-100kph (62mph) in 8.49 to 8.50. The 1/4 mile was also very repeatable at 16.02 to 16.05 @86mph. All measurements were done in two ways , starting with 70% and ending with 60% battery charge. Mind you I own a 3.8 sec 0-60 mph car (a tuned 440i BMW) and the Fiat feels pretty swift and absolutely sufficient in town driving. I needed the smallest possible "proper" EV for a daily commuter and the little Fiat is brilliant.
That little plastic bit sticking out the side with the Italian flag is the side turn signal that is required in Europe, but not the US. I guess for US cars, they don't bother installing the light.
I work at a Fiat Workshop in Germany. For the People wondering the clear thing sticking out of the front fenders is actually the Turn Signal for our german Model/Euro Models. Here in germany the entry trim has Halogen Lights in the front even the Turn signals but still in the same housing as the LED ones. Looks very cheap and in the base model you dont even have a Radio in the Car/Display in the middle.
I mean, I get your point, but if you are out to buy the biggest spec sheet for the least amount of money, you will end up with a soulless BYD. For many buyers, a car is about more than that, and this car has a 14%+ market share in the A+B BEV segment in Europe. The price tag is obviously fine since it is selling like hot cakes.
@@SpoooferThe price is fine if you’re living in Europe. Seeing as how this video is quite literally American, and nobody is buying these because there are better options, your point is not valid at all.
A few design observations. 1) A missed opportunity to use the translucent plastic {the one with the flag} as a side marker repeater. 2) If you remove the stem and the stroke (the vertical and horizontal lines) of the "5" in the 500, you get 3/4 of an Audi. 3) A horizontal cutout in the cupholder in the shape of the "0" in 500, which can double as a phone holder when placed in the slit.

F430 and MC12 are still iconic supercar gems till today.
I’ve never understood electronic door poppers. Why have an electronic release when you must have a manual backup release. Just seems a bit superfluous if the manual release will always be the reliable option for getting out.
Manual just works. Why fix what's not broken? And you know on a Fiat, the electronic poppers will break.
It looks cool esp for videos/TikToks
Reminds me of the mid-2000s fad of putting your key in, turning it, and then still having to press the start button
You can open the door with an app. you can also start the airco with the same app. You could not do this stuff "all mechanical". This is a modern car with modern features. Small does not mean cheap...

If you do anything other than lease one, you are certifiable.

Doug had all the driving enthusiasm as someone describing an upcoming root canal.

That thing sticking out of the front fender is the side turn signal in Europe. Maybe it does not comply with some US law, so it is deactivated?
Makes sense
Fully legal to have side indicators in the US, many many german cars carry it over to North America, Fiat just decided to cheap out as it isnt a requirement. They probably saved a staggering 25 cent per vehicle by doing it.

Cheap is what luxurious was expensive 20 years ago, even 10
I calculated for the demographic they are going after it would be about 3000 hours of work to payoff.
Eh…. 10 years ago $35k wasn't "luxury expensive." Even the very cheapest Lexus (the "Prius c with a Lexus badge," the CT200h) in 2014 was $36k, and it wasn't really that luxury. Or expensive. (By contrast, the regular Prius could be specced more expensive than that.)
10 years ago, $35k was "nice medium-highish price".

When you're Doug DeMuro anything less than $100k is "cheap".
The lease deals Fiat will inevitably offer on these will be “cheap.”
It's telling that the only tool underneath the trunk floor is a tow loop.
What tools do you expect? A threaded tow hook is included with virtually every new unibody vehicle.

Looks very cheap
and in the base model you dont even have a Radio in the Car/Display in the middle.
