    I really don’t like the new Mini. They stripped it of all its class, beauty and timelessness. Instead they’ve used cheaper materials and underdeveloped tech. If the Mini would still cost 17.000€ it might have been justifiable, but at a price point of over 40k it’s just outrageous.

    Well done BMW, you have finally managed to kill every part of what the Mini was designed and built for. The size, buying the John Cooper name only, (they can't even respect that Coopers always had WHITE roofs), and now even the price is a joke. BMW calling this a Mini is a disgrace of the corporate world. Progress?? If costing people off the roads s your mission....yes. This car has never been more than a terrible facsimile.

    • @TassieLorenzo
      @TassieLorenzo 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Fair. Of course it would have been better if Honda (or someone else) had bought Austin Rover (and even brought Jaguar back into the fold from Ford too) instead of British Aerospace and then BMW and then SAIC and others. *BUT* As long as the factory still exists and keeps people in work, that's what matters, no? The Longbridge plant might be gone and the Honda Swindon plant is now gone, but it's good that at least *some* British Leyland factories are still going, surely (be it MINI Oxford or Jaguar Land Rover Solihull & Wolverhampton and some of the supply chain factories)? 🙂
      If Honda owned MINI, then perhaps MINI could be a Kei car based on the Honda N-One similar to the cutesy Suzuki Lapin. But would people actually buy a 660cc or 1000cc pint-sized Mini Cooper in this day and age? I'm not sure. There isn't viewed to be a market for other Kei cars in the UK and they don't meet UK crash or emissions regulations unfortunately. The increase in size of the R53 MINI was partly due to meeting crash regulations and adding crumple zones, though further size increases since then are indeed unfortunate.

    I wish reviews would stop saying negative things about cars that aren't 5 doors or sit 5 people and takes large baby seats, with large boots etc. Believe it or not not everyone is looking for a big car that fits a family of 12 and can take 25 carry-on cases in the boot, doesn't mean it's a less practical car or less of a product, it just means it is aimed at a different market that's all and should be compared to others in the same market. I hate that cars are classed as not good unless they get bigger and bigger with each regeneration.

      @WetPig I get what u are saying, but some folks are happy to spend 42k on a small luxury car with all the bells and whistles. Look how successful the original BMW 1 series, the Audi A1 and the 2nd Gen Mini were. There is a market for what people perceive to be luxury small cars. Sadly all of them got bigger and bigger and are pretty much the size of 1 or 2 classes above now. Some people don't have kids or have a need for bigger cars, but like to have nice things. Smaller does always need to be cheaper plastics or not fancy kit etc.

    the front grill kinda looks like a huge BMW grill. it is expensive, but what makes a car, a car, must be present. motor, batteries, windows, airbags, breaks, seats.... what lacks is 200 kilos of metal to make it longer and bigger in the boot. but two doors don't save that much money on a car build. like in a house, you still need a kitchen, and baths.... adding some square metres for an empty, no plumbing, or special water treatment, to call a big living room, doesn't cost much extra. Smaller might even be more expensive because you must package it better for serviceability, crash safety and so on. went to check one out yesterday, it'a a good little car. Great review, love the jokes, some energy efficiency numbers would be awesome, I can't seem to find a review with that in mind.

      If you roughly calculate how much money you will spend on petrol every year and how long you intend to keep the car, the petrol Mini may work out to be cheaper.
      Example: if we spend £1,200 yearly and intend to keep the car for 7 years = £8,400 then if you put that on top of the 23k petrol model it becomes 31.4k which can get you a top spec model and still be cheaper than the electric model.

    I dont know why they would put the works name on the car when its lacking performance compared to pretty average electric cars today. I dont think putting the name on an electric car is the problem because its proven more often than not today that EV's can be bat shit crazy quick with sporty handling (ioniq 5 N for example), the problem is its no quicker than a JCW mini from 2008 and in 2008 that performance was impressive but you can get electric cars today more competitive on price, far more practical and even much heavier smashing this thing. It should have been dual motor or rear wheel drive at least.
    I quite like the look of the new renault 5 and im hoping when they inevitably do a hot version they just go nuts with it like hyundai do these days with their N cars, make it a modern day sleeper on the road and capture what made the old 5 turbo cool for its time.

      Yup the public have realised they were all getting scammed by buying an EV that no one wants on the 2nd hand market and insurance companies charging ridiculous prices to insure them because they don't want too. Noticed even the governments don't push them any more now we don't buy them and are plotting their next scam to empty our pockets as this one didn't work!

    • @craigix
      @craigix 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The EV will easily outsell the petrol due to company car tax breaks. That's why they have priced it so high. They know.

    As an Owner of a previous Mini Cooper S (I don’t agree with Matt’s opinion about the design) i think the new Mini looks really good. The non JCW Trim versions are a bit boring though.
    What i also don’t like is how the petrol version of the new Cooper S doesn’t have exhausts tips. It’s just confusing.

  • @paulhelden

    I have a R56 and is I love it, no motivation to buy a F56 as most of the JCW (where I live) are automatics and look a bit big. I this new generation is way cooler than the F56, the exterior is similar to the R56 as it look smaller, the electric looks fun and unique. Shame is too expensive and heavy

      I think thats a bit of a large claim. There have been quite a few unfortunate uses of names over the years. This is in essence still a small (still small compared to other things on the road - check out the new M5 for instance) 4 seater where things like the Mustang went from being a cool coupe to an electric suv.
      Other "retro" designs have also been largely just remodelled versions of other cars so the Fiat 500 was largely just a rebodied Panda, the VW Beetle was a Golf in a frock and so on.
      For all their faults Mini are still one of the better brands so far as sticking to their origins.
      Remember even Porsche and Ferrari now make suv's.

    The Cooper S petrol is a rapid machine over 200bhp straight out the box 😮 I have owned the mini GP3 with over 300bhp and this new Cooper S feels very much as fast when driving it 🚀 The electric version is just not worth the extra 10k over the petrol version personally the cooper sport 5:05 1.5 petrol which has over 150 bhp is the best buy with level 3 added looks exactly the same car as the cooper S but under 30k 😊

    Too bad car manufacturers put such laggy bloated software on very underpowered hardware in the infotainment systems.
    You'd think that more premium cars would have even high refresh screens by now. Especially Mercedes, with a 90-120Hz panel for smooth animations.

  • @Babel7078
    @Babel7078 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Putting almost all controls and information on the screen means that when that screen fails you loose everything, and I guess it will cost hugely. Another point is safety with touch screens. I think the next NCAP tests will not granted cars with touch screens with fife stars. I have F56 1.5 lit petrol engine with manual gearshift, and I love it. It looks that the materials used in older models are much better than this.
