Had a Honda since january 2022. In the colder months (Jan - Mar) range was easily sub-100 and nearer 80 but as a city car (and that's what it's marketed as) that's not an issue. With warmer weather and holidays, we've done several 100-110 trips on A-roads with some dual carriageway/motorway driving and hilly/scenic B-roads and got as low as 9% battery on those trips before hitting a charger - a bit nervy but more confident now we've done it a few times. We stopped in very rural Perthshire and had a chat with someone who worked for a Honda dealer and he was impressed how far we'd come. Planning is key - have a spread of charging points planned and avoid hills. Do we like it? Hell, yes.
Interesting question, but also tell me what temperature. (Or go to the video's of Tesla Bjorn ...he's done a lot of tests in different wether, speed and so on). I can only give an estimate on a Hyunda KonaE 64....At zero to three degrees celsius I'll reach 390-400km range. At 20-22 degrees celsius I'll reach 450-460 km range (which is more than the 449 km wltp claimed range). This numbers are measurde with mostly motorway at a speed of 100km/h (which is the speed limit in the Netherlands at the moment) and a little in town. Maximum range , when you're really trying to get as far as possible, 85km/h is more than 500km in conditions when you do not need heater or airco. I'm driving at least every week a roundtrip of about 360 km. Never needed to go to a (fast)charger on this distance. Starting this after buying this car nearly 2 years ago.

Wow sensitive people over the pond. Yea 90 degrees for us a very nice summer day. Truthfully hitting 110 sucks. That's when it's dangerous to be outside and we wish to be somewhere else.
@Ddhfacetyy agreed but cracking the window is a big help in that situation. I am not saying it's cold. Lol. It's just not as hot as they were making it sound. But since the UK apparently doesn't get that hot, then I can see why they think it's really warm. I would be happy to have the lower temps all the time. Or be more steady around 80-85.

Also, by slowing down at the ends of all the driving you'll get more range, the estimated range is based on prior driving conditions at freeway speeds. I believe manufacturers should list miles per kilowatt, not max range. Gas cars list mpg not range. So a larger battery is no different than a larger gas tank.

I stopped at a motorway service area in southern England recently & noticed that out of 12 charging points provided, five were not working & when I returned two days later the same five were still out of order. I really like the design of the little Renault. It's got the cute and endearing face that you'd expect from a tiny little city car, but it wears it's little diamond badge so proudly. In all, though, if the range were better, I'd rather have the Honda for all the whiz-bang gadgetry and the more retro-modern styling of the interior. Only if I had a second car with more range and a bit more comforting road presence to take on long trips on the motorway. None of that particularly matters, though, since I'm in the US and essentially none of those vehicles are available here because we're backwards and nobody buys small cars.
I could see the Renault being a decent option in the US if it got there despite being small can go well over 200 on a charge… I’ve seen the Bolt around me which is also a small EV as well
The cost of "renewing" the traction battery and its longevity were not mentioned also. These cars may be less polluting but the costs overall may be over the limits for the majority.
I love these kind of tests, last week I had a range of 63km in my Zoe, and still did the commute to work, which is 52km long. I made it and had 6% left... I loved it
I'd love to believe it's a software glitch but the fact is that the PSA cars are not optimised ground up EVs: they're ICE with some third party bits slung together underneath. The platform was put together virtually overnight to meet EU laws and they didn't give a monkeys about how efficient it was. The 208 has a shorter range than the old Zoe ZE40, which carted around 10Kwh LESS battery. That's unacceptable.
@@timaustin2000 "The platform was put together virtually overnight to meet EU laws and they didn't give a monkeys about how efficient it was." Citation for this " opinion' masquerading as fact. Otherwise fake news.
@@timaustin2000 The e208 has 45kWh of useable battery, and the ZE40 has 41kWh useable battery capacity. So it is actually closer in capacity to the old Zoé. Thanks for doing this. Must have been so boring to test but it's what everyone wants to know. Personally, I want a larger electric car. Whilst researching what's available I was shocked to read the range smallprint on some of them. For example, 200 mile range, but at 70mph is reduced by half!! 200 mile range is great, but the only time you'll ever want to use that is a motorway drive. 100 mile range is just not good enough for motorway driving.
"You're lucky I'm doing this cause this is a bloody French car" We love you too :p Note that If you used the eco mode from the start with the Zoe, it would probably have gone further.
Yeah, he probably would have went further with the eco mode. But it would have changed the AC to a lower power mode so the car would have been less comfortable to drive. There's not much it does besides lowering the maximal throttle output and toning the AC/heater down.
I'd say this test wasn't very scientific anyway. Weren't they driving different routes? What about AC settings? They should have normalized everything as far as they could to come up with comparable values.
@@keks-69 Real world randomness is a fair test. They all had the same end goal, even if eventually taking different routes. For the most part they were all on the M1 though. The test was 'real world conditions' which I reckon has been fairly well met. However they should have all been brand new. One of them had miles on the clock already, one of the vehicles did have a second person in it too (usually the vehicle the presenter was sat in) The only way to do this better really is to have one person perform the same test over multiple similarly weather affected days with each different car. Even then I would say no science is perfect.
Exactly what I was wondering. It seems like the carwow crews are just consisting of Matt, one other cameraman, one lady who does countdowns for drag races, and this second driver guy who can duplicate himself.
My girlfriend drove a ZOE, it was horrible and we rarely got this claimed range out of it. Alos, just like Microage says up here, we could only rent the battery and they refused to renew the battery after its performance was les than 70%, something which they promised to do before renting, but suddenly changed their policy and said they only change the battery under 60% performance.
I’m not sure it is. If it applies to anyone who buys an ev and the ban on ice cars in 2030 is written into legislation, then it’s very relevant information to the price. I’d totally agree if they didn’t declare it though.

In the mean time... My 18 year old 250,000 mile diesel van still does 600 miles to the tank when loaded down with my work kit. and it takes 5 mins to give me another 600 miles range. Thats pretty much what it did when new! Im a vehicle detailer. I considered an EV van once... But...... Ive recently been to a company that ended its lease early and dumped its entire EV van fleet, because they are simply not fit for purpose. The vans allegedly have a 200 mile range, but one you load them for a days work. (In this case building and plumbing) that additional weight drops the range from an acceptable 200 miles to just 50 miles. They couldnt do a days work without a 3 hour midday recharge. I also drive to and from London, from the North in the same day on a semi regular basis.. I'd have no chance doing that in an EV.
EVs are not for every use, but for what it's worth, you actually gain time when it's your daily driver and charge from home/workplace, since you don't have to ever go to the gas station, it's just full every morning, so you can't compare charging and fuel-filling times. Also, less maintenance.
I think Honda’s refusal to give the E more range is one of the reasons you don’t see that many: they may be technically right, and people could absolutely live with such a small range, but they want value for money and longer range JUST IN CASE, and longer range comparable with the competition, would have made a huge difference with this car. For this money I want more that around 100 miles even if I’ll never use it most of the time.
7:55, not more noticeable, they designed it to slow it less at higher speeds, remember that rolling is still more efficient than putting energy in your battery and back out again.
Based on experience with my Zoe ZE50 and the previous 40, it'll be reet. The old one got a minimum of 120 in freezing rain doing 70mph (I did it on the M6 once.) New one will conk at 160 at 70, 3 degrees and a rainstorm at night. Did this on a run down to Cornwall from Yorkshire. Can literally go anywhere in the country without any real fuss, with today's charging infrastructure. Love the thing.

Test them when you get stuck in motorway traffic, while it's raining on a cold winters day lights and heater on and see how they do. Thats more like real motoring.
Well, by stuck do you mean a traffic jam? EVs excel at that, you can easily add a good 30-40% to the average range for that slow high-traffic driving. Even with -10 outside and the heater on, if you're doing that kind of driving, you won't really see a dip in range from the average. If you're talking stuck like,, you can't get off the highway, well, I have never tried that, but things may be different where you live. Regardless, you want to talk real motoring; Since in the real world the average person drives 25-50 miles per day, the range doesn't really matter.
@@PatrickHansen101 Really the range does not matter, well say that to the average motorist and you may not get the answer your looking for! if you said that to me as a sales pitch I would walk straight out of the showroom. So stop start motoring like on the m25, moving a few feet and then stopping does not impact on the range that's hard to swallow ! Having had to drive an electric car for work the performance was very badly affected, in start stop traffic.
@@paultrunfull3324 Well, i'm not trying to sell you a car, so I don't really care if I appeal to your emotions. If you have an EV with 2-300 mile range and you drive 25-50 miles per day (eg. the average person), no normal external factor will reduce the range to such a degree, that it will be a problem to travel that distance. Anything *can* affect the range, it all depends on how much, and *which* range we're talking about. If we are talking the EPA/WLTP range, driving in slow traffic will actually give you more range; Those values include mixed highway and city driving, and EVs loose most of their efficiency to air resistance, eg. driving faster = worse range, on top of that all of the proper EVs have "e-pedal drive" or some variant thereof, where letting go of the speeder will regeneratively brake the car to a halt, meaning that slow traffic requires very little energy. This is a contrast to ICE cars, where most of the inefficiency stems from the combustion engine, air-resistance matters, but not as much, and when they brake, they dump all of the energy into heat in the brakes; ICE cars are most efficient at a constant speed. It all of course depends on the EV and the driver; If you disable or reduce regenerative braking and use the actual brakes to slow down, you will loose a lot of range in slow traffic since you're hemorrhaging energy with braking. If you are driving a car that wasn't "born" as an EV, but adapted, like the Fiat 500e or VW e-Gold, you're going to have a car that isn't physically optimized for being an EV, and may have poor software. The Fiat 500e for example, will actually apply the brakes (audibly!) when you start and stop in slow traffic, which I would imagine wasting a lot of energy. You really have to consider the energy. Something like the Kia EV6 has a 300 mile range on a 77.4kWh battery. 77.4 kWh is about the same amount of energy as 2.4 gallons of gasoline, it's literally getting the equivalent of 125 miles per gallon in a 2-ton vehicle, just from insane efficiency, so it is a balance that is easily tipped if either the driver or the automaker don't know what they're doing. You're completely right though; I am personally convinced by facts and figures, but the average person isn't, so numbers and statements like these are probably not doing much good for EV adoption, so yeah, probably a good thing I never intend to work I sales!
@@PatrickHansen101 Last bit on this, but you still say that people do not care about figures well having spent a long time in retail I would disagree about that statement' after looking at the object they come and ask question after question' like how far can I go, how long will it take to charge, and one I've heard many times, if I'm stuck in a traffic jam will my range go down if I have the heater/radio/lights and windscreen wipers on? So people do care !And by the way I and many of the people i know drive far more than 25-50 miles a day !
@@paultrunfull3324 but that's not facts and figures, that's appeals to emotions using numbers. Without *proper* context, the numbers mean nothing. Just like your "I know many that drive more than that!", well most people don't, that's simply a fact.
So if you run out of battery on the motorway due to being sat for hrs because of an accident how does the rac get to you to charge you back up especially if a lot of other vehicles are in the same position, then there’s the charging costs which are going to vary across the country same as fuels do now,but in a petrol/diesel car most can do round trip without refuelling so choosing where to refuel & how much you pay where as the choice will be take away if going to an hotel

Hell, yes.
What is it like to drive?

In a nutshell mate, they're useless for most commercial users.
Aight cool, but I’m looking for somebody.
I’m looking for the person that asked
2:39 how much will you save from drag, considering this a city seeds driven car, and you have to power two additional small tablets?
tablets are using around 5 watts. driving at 70mph constant uses about 25000-30000 watts. your point?
7:55, not more noticeable, they designed it to slow it less at higher speeds, remember that rolling is still more efficient than putting energy in your battery and back out again.
Do it in the rain when it's dark, like real UK winter driving conditions and see what it does

@@marc9080 Are you stuck in the 1970s? There have been heaps of original Japanese designs from last few decades and the Honda e harks back to their own kei cars from the 80s so hardly copying...
Yeah if it only had like 1000 kmh of range minimum and a decent charging speed I'd love it. Besides the mirrors they are terrible.
17:08 most interesting moment of the video : a Mclaren just cruising around these little electric things.
