"Theres not many coffee shops" After coming out of the Strand Arcade which has 3 on the ground floor alone! LOL. Most Australian coffee shops are small independent cafes, the multinational chains can't cut it here due to rubbish coffee quality.
Very true and there are a few in the QVB too but I think Lee was referring to to big chains they have a lot more of in the UK, but the small independents serve a much better quality coffee, most people have their regular place to go to also…

I clicked on this video because I was born in Sydney and lived here all my life, and I KNOW how great it is. I wanted to see what a Pom had to whinge about. I was pleasantly surprised to see Lee Mack, one of my favourite comedians. I was further pleased to see he just couldn't find anything to whinge about. Enjoy your time here Lee. PLEASE do hop on a Manly ferry and take in our spectacular harbour for a few quid. The Manly ferry is less about seeing what's at Manly than checking out the harbour. Visit Taronga Zoo (also on the harbour, you can catch a ferry there too) and see some of our astonishing wildlife.
Sydney is everything that New York isn't. Sydney is clean , safe and excellent public transport and fantastic green spaces and a lot of history to see and places to visit.

I love Australia but I really really enjoyed my time in NY it was incredible. Museums, Art Galleries, Grand Central Station. The Cloisters, Central Park. The Empire State Building. Possibly the rudest ppl ever but funny because you can be rude back. Never felt unsafe and I traveled on the subway to Queens where I stayed everyday. Sorry if you had a bad experience in NY I loved it.
But it does have very high crime, very many homeless, people sleeping rough, in gutters, drugs everywhere! Loved there for years during the 80’s, got burgled 3 times and that’s when we knew “gotta leave this dive!” Moved to Albury, so much nicer! And of course Sydney now far worse than way back then!! Still love it, but could never go back to live!
20 years in Brisbane, 9 in Melbourne, and now almost 5 in Sydney.. Sydney is far and away the best and the only true international city in Australia. Not mentioning that it's one of the most spectacular looking cities in the world and a climate that's near perfect.
I think Surry hills Sydney is more like the lower east side of New York double bay is more like upper east side old money and not so much street life

I like this style of video. I was born in one of the inner city suburbs of Sydney. Even though I now live in the Blue Mountains I love to travel into Sydney, on a regular basis, to wander the streets I grew up in. A favourite pastime of mine is to sit under the northern side of the Harbour Bridge and watch all the watercraft ply the waterways. It's also a wonderful spot to view the city skyline.
do yourself a favour and take a trip up to parramatta and back from circular key on the river cat(ferry), you'll get to see a lot more of the Sydney harbour and parramatta river waterways, you differently won't regret it, its a very nice outing, actually that very quiet for Sydney, compared to precovid, a lot the government departments staff are still working from home
Awesome comment mate. Also a place to experience 40+ degrees weather. Parramatta is the CBD for Western Sydney and home to just under 3,00,000 people from I reckon every bloody nation on the planet. I have had mates from every continent and I've experienced women of all colours and backgrounds. Parramatta is the real Sydney
You’re confusing lack of sh!t chain coffee shops for lack of cafes. The cafe culture in Australia is huge compared to the UK, but not in awful chain coffee stores.

Have to say it Lee... been watching these videos from Australia and you're making me really want to go. It looks like a wonderful life over there. Good weather, decent shops, lovely people.
Those birds with long beaks are Australian Ibises. Colloquially we call them “bin chickens” because they have learned to raid garbage bins for food.
I think it's less common to have shops specifically dedicated to selling coffee in Aus. Usually you find espresso machines and good quality coffee in cafes, restaurants, bars or even fast food places. There are of course a few dedicated espresso bars though.
If you stand there long enough the skywriter will spell out 'I love the MacMaster TH-cam Video Channel'! 🤩
Starbucks came out here & failed because it's crap, there's only a few stores left. We have Italian style coffee culture where it's focused more in cafes with barista made coffee. You can walk into most cafes to get a coffee to go & even some of the takeaway sandwich type places in the city arcades geared towards making lunches for city workers have coffee machines & offer great coffee. I used to work in Castlereagh St near DJs many years ago & there was a great little place over the road in the Imperial Arcade where we could grab gourmet sandwiches & latte's every day. There will still be heaps of places once you know what to look for.
Aussie aren’t really fond of “Starbucks” it’s not very nice coffee and we are snobs when it comes to coffee. Love you tour of Sydney and like this style of videos. Glad you enjoy our beautiful country.

For the life of me i cannot understand this constant discussion comparing coffee, or Melbourne has better coffee than Sydney etc , ok im a tea drinker but in a list of importance in my life it probably wouldn't be in the top 50 of requirements
There’s no difference in the best coffee in Sydney and the best coffee in Melbourne. There are just more good coffee shops in Melbourne and more cheap coffee places /chains in Sydney. It’s all still imported Columbian, Mexican & Ethiopian coffee beans

Manly beach is lovely. The ferry ride gives you a great view of the Opera House and the Sydney skyline.
Sorry, but I need to give you some constructive criticism and I hope you don’t get offended.
Basically, you need to do more research. From the get go, all the things you past and made absolutely no comment about, explained, history, what it represents, etc: 1. the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park, 2. The Archibald Fountain in Hyde Park (“the guy hugging the bull”), 3. St Mary’s Cathedral next to Hyde Park, 4. The Barracks - Sydney was a penal colony! - and Gov Macquarie over the door of it - famous for laying out the plan of Sydney, 5. The NSW Parliament building - how old, etc, and you could have gone inside - 6. Details about the Sydney harbour bridge and opera house, 7. The Queen Victoria building, which you passed, and is one of the most beautiful shopping buildings in the world.
The only things we really got were sky writers and how hot you were and how much you needed a drink. Admittedly, you gave us some very beautiful images of Sydney.
Lastly, the CBD of Sydney and its suburbs are full to the gills with cafes but they are all independent cafes. You are probably so used to chain coffee shops that you probably didn’t realise that you passed 20 smaller indie cafes.
So, do better please. A little research from a lonely planet guide can really improve your videos.

I think it shows an honest Innocent Abroad! When some visit a completely new country, nay continent, there is so much to absorb & coming from a very gloomy, dank, dark England where it virtually hasn't stopped raining since before Christmas, the Aussie sun will almost addle the brain.
I find it quite interesting how few people bother to do anything but the most superficial research before visiting a place - and indeed will be comparing what they see to what they've left behind. I do find it rather shocking how certain Brands seem iconic to some people, almost synonymous - that if they want a coffee they go here or a burger they go there. One of the great things about Aussie eateries is how many independents there are - I'm assuming it's the same on the Mainland as in Tassie? I always thought one of the big complaints from Locals about British tourists is their whingeing about the food 'not like wot it is at home!' They want their pie & chips...
I would hope that on a second visit - or ensuing explorations Lee at least captures the information boards long enough so we can pause & absorb - I must admit, never having been to Sydney, it looked great from this video, the parks, buildings and setting were gorgeous and reminded me a bit of Chicago - but really stunning and accessible and did make me want to find out more - and to recommend it as a destination beyond the Bridge & Opera House! I do realize I'm seeing it through Lee's eyes - rather than as a destination guide.
Australian cities are clean compared with the UK
Huge campaigns on The telly in the 80s to ‘Keep Australia Beuatiful’. Littering is definitely frowned upon. Bins are plentiful, as is access to public toilets, so not too much p!sing in the street after a night out on the town. Large Public events are well generally well organised with extra porta loos and bins to account for influx of people. I was shocked by vision I saw of a recent FA cup- how little was done to account for the crowd- rubbish and crud everywhere that apparently gets swept up the next day. In Australia, if the facilities are provided, we all seem to do our bit and the clean up is easier because of it .

The helicopter ride over the city is great and the three sisters at the blue mountains. A train ride to Penrith also worth doing.
Coffee in the US is considered punishment

We have lots of little cafe's that do proper espresso/coffee. Actually 1 of the best ones was at the Strand Arcade

Sydney is the best and safest city in the whole Western world! If you think having some asian, indian, arab, and eastern europeans is a bad mix of immigrants....please go to the US, or Germany, or the UK, then tell me what you think.

You’re not seeing coffee shops because there aren’t any chain stores, they never took off, it’s all independent cafes, there are probably more coffee machines in Sydney, they just aren’t in garishly advertised shops

Cafes are everywhere in Sydney. They’re not part of chains (we don’t like coffee from chain stores) always independently owned and usually quite petite with just a few tables. ☕️🤎
Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane & Gold Coast = all different, all enjoyable in different offerings.
Left out Adelaide, Leave out Melbourne, Add Darwin!!
On the ferry back from Manly you can get off at Watsons bay - it is a beautiful part of sydney. Also check out Bondi Icebergs if you go to Bondi beach. You can do the Bondi to Cogee walk.

You'll be hard-pressed to find a Starbucks. They arrived in Australia in about 2000 and opened a heap of outlets. Australians are coffee snobs however and hated the stuff Starbucks call coffee. The chain lost 100 million dollars and shut most of their shops in 2008. They are slowly coming back, but with their tail between their legs...

Visit the Rocks area. Quiet area up behind the Harbour bridge. Lots of small interesting shops and eateries. Also take the ferry to Manly, great harbour views. Come back on the faster Catamaran - slightly pricier. Also a trip across the harbour to North Sydney is recommended.
Yep, the Rocks is a must and the ferries provide one of the best opportunities for sight seeing at a reasonable price anywhere in the world.

Have you noticed how clean the city of Sydney is? That is one of the most beautiful things about the city! The birds with the long curved beaks are ‘Ibis’ known locally as ‘Bin Chickens’ and finally there are very few Starbucks in Australia because the coffee in Australia runs rings around American Coffee and when they tried to invade our shores they failed. Love your videos!

I liked this walkabouts style without the music, it was relaxing to watch and you seemed to fit more in.
Bondi beach is easily reached by train. There is a scenic cliff top walk to several more beaches. The Manly ferry trip gives great views of the harbour and has both harbour and ocean beaches at Manly. Manly and Bondi are quite different to each other.
A day trip to the Blue Mountains, train from Central Station, is well worth it. Take a jacket, it can be cooler than the city.
If you’re still in Sydney for the Mardi Gras parade make sure to go.

Really enjoyed this "walkabout" (see what I did there!). I have a second cousin who has lived in Melbourne for about 20 years. He and his Aussie partner are currently on a tour of wineries in south part of Western Australia.
I was there in 2018, and I loved Sydney. The highlight of the trip was a day in the Blue Mountains. Highly recommended. Also if you want some adventure go on the Oz Jet Boat. It is Amazing.

The coastal walk between Coogee and Bondi Beach is worth doing. A ferry to Watsons Bay, a walk across the harbour bridge to Kirribilli for the view from the other side and food/drinks at The Rocks area (near the cruise ship terminal).
Pub lunch at the top of The Glenmore Hotel on Cumberland Street, gives good views of the harbour.
Great Vlog Lee I absolutely love those walking videos so I'd like to see more of those types of vlogs, Sydney looks a wonderful place with some beautiful architecture as well as super looking parks & harbours

The park is the Royal Botanic Gardens. Go to the South Pylon of the Harbour Bridge and for about $19, you can go up to the museum and outside, to look at the amazing harbour and bridge views. There is also the Bridge climb at about $300+
The Sydney Eye has a revolving restaurant in it with 360 degree views of the city.
Did you know the term "pom" has a history going back to the early days of settlement, when Sydney was still a penal colony? Every time a new shipload of convicts arrived, the captain would present the governor with a list of their names. As the prisoners were to be held by servicemen of the King's (red coats), they were referred to as "Prisoners of His Majesty's Service." The anachronism was P.O.H.M.S. So "Poms" was the term that became associated with all new arrivals from England, and has been in use in Australia ever since.

You could consider climbing the bridge. You should visit Bondi Beach and travel by train to Katoomba where you can see the great divide and the three sisters and go on the steepest railway in the world. The ferry trip to Manley allows unusual views of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House
I'm 71 but Lee you've made me want to see my last days out in Australia. The Australian board of commerce should reward you, so far you've made it all look fabulous
Indeed Lee has done a brilliant promotion job on Australia . He must have a very fancy camera too that filters out the hundreds of homeless people living on the pavement in Sydney . I’m 70 , spent half my life in the UK , the rest in Australia . It’s not all lovely and rosey in Australia , in fact it’s hard going as a pensioner who has to pay for doctors visits , prescriptions and the like .
People live on the streets through choice. There is no need for that in Australia. They only need to ask for help.

The UK boys from the Jolly channel had tried a fish n chips place in SYD called Out Of The Blue Clovelly (2/272 Clovelly Rd, Coogee). Stated they had better fish n chips there than back home! and amazing looking burgers too. Could be a great review with a Coogee and Bondi beach trek:)

I suggested that place too the other day and mentioned the Jolly guys😆. I used to live in Sydney in the eastern suburbs. I've tried their fish and chips. Really good👍🏼. That was about 3-4 years ago I last ate from there. So I hope the quality is still good.
Should go to darling Harbour at night and Star City. Taronga zoo is a must on the cable car.

I’m really enjoying your Australian season. I’m getting up every morning and joining you on tour with my morning cuppa. It was a nice change to get down to the nitty gritty today without the walk by’s, and definitely didn’t miss that usual awful music which sounds someone just put a load of repetitive noises randomly together so I have to keep muting it out, it genuinely makes me want to pull my hair out lol. I love it when you change the music now and then. Thank you for your brilliant channel. It’s a lovely way to start my day.
