  • Rosy Bourke Cage Tour | This is how I set up my Bourke Parakeets cage. The cage is a HQ flight cage, 32" wide by 21" deep. Rosey and Ruby can fly around in it but not a full fly. They are out of their cage daily and they fly around the room, run on the floor and hang out on the hanging perches. They go back it at bedtime, usually 8:30 - 9:00 p.m
    Their diet consists of canary and finch seed, budgie and cockatiel seed, millet, canary pellets, greens, rice, corn, peas, carrots, apple, and grapes

    I have two pairs by now and they are lovely to keep as pets with their pleasant voices and calm demeanour. I'm surprised they're not better known, nobody among my friends or family knew they existed until I got my first pair.

    Thanks for the info. I just adopted 2 that look pretty depressed. First off, they are clipped (UGH). They came with 2 normal wooden dowel perches and 2 ladders and I have yet to see them stretch their wings. The first thing I did was clip their nails because they were so overgrown. I love your set up and I'm hoping with this info I can make these little guys feel like birds again.

      Your welcome. Congratulations on your new Bourkes. Clipped is not good. Hopefully the flight feathers will grow fast.

    Thank you for the informative video. It is very obvious that you love your Rosey Bourkes and care for them perfectly. I have a pair also, got them about 6 months ago, they really are quiet birds. My male will whistle back to me but I've made no attempt to teach him to talk. I also play a lot of You Tube videos for them. I have a variety of Finches (Zebra, Society, Gouldian and Owls that are housed in another cage. I also have an outside aviary and can hardly wait to put the Bourkes outside for the first time. Thnk you for pointing out the need for fresh foods in addition to seed. I am a firm believer in that too.

      +Loveofpets Hi, sorry, just now seeing this ... I don't have video of my birds only still shots. I recently moved everyone to my outside aviary but it then (of course) turned cooler and rainy so the Bourkes are back indoors for a few days.

    Glad they're in a nice big cage. Too many other pet parrots are neglected with the small cages and being clipped :(. Also yes, Seed mixes are generally too high fat to be a base for captive parrots outside of an aviary even if they're a seed eating species. This is why the base should be pellets and chop as the pellets are properly balanced. Although pellets with sugar or honey should be avoided as well as artificial coloring or flavors.

    HI, I REALLY LOVE THIS VIDEO. I AM LOOKING FOR VIDEOS NONSTOP LATELY DUE TO THE FACT I BOUGHT MYSELF A ROSE BOURKE AND I FIND THE INFORMATION, ALTHOUGH INSIGHTFUL, NOT WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR. I HAVE DONE THE RESEARCH ABOUT THEM PRIOR TO GETTING ONE. MY LAST BIRD WAS A LOVE BIRD. BEING WITH HER 24/7.. SHE WAS AN INCREDIBLE START BIRD. SHE WAS ONE THAT WOULD LET YOU KNOW = NO! ALSO DESTROY ANY TOY I BOUGHT, YET I TAUGHT HER TO TALK AND PLAY GAMES ETC. GETTING MY ROSE BOURKE , I HAVE REALLY NOTICED THE DIFFERENCE. I HAD TO CHANGE THE CAGE SET UP AND FOR NOW I HAVE TAKEN OUT ANY TOYS. UNTIL NOW I DIDN'T KNOW THEY USED ANY REALLY. HE IS 5 MONTHS OLD AND GENTLE BUT DOESN'T GO ON MY HAND ETC. THE BOTTOM LINE WOULD BE ' TO SEE A VIDEO ON HOW TO START TO TRAIN YOUR NEW BIRD.' IF POSSIBLE. TYVM FOR READING!

      Bourkes can fly well. You will hear their wings, it sounds nice. They will have to get used to the windows. Mine never hit the window as they know its there. At first they may hit the window or fly up against it. Shear curtains or window decals can help

    Im trying to train mine to come onto my hand like that but he backs off. Think its early days yet as we have only had him couple months.

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +floydy22 It can take a while, was he hand raised and hand fed? If not, it will take a while to trust you, sometimes they may never step up and you can still enjoy them as a hands off bird.

    • @floydy22
      @floydy22 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Loveofpets i believe he was not hand fed. Hes only a year old bless him. Hes cocky and he quite confident whenever i let him out in my living room. He normally flies onto the shelf i have mounted on the wall. He just wont sit on my hand. I have sat there with my hand in the cage because i read that is a good way to get a bird to trust you. The breeder sed they are tame.

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +floydy22 How is your bourke doing now? Did he sit on your hand yet?

    • @floydy22
      @floydy22 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Loveofpets yeah hes doing alright. We can see he is a very happy bird but unfortunately he doesnt sit on my hand. He has a habbit of sitting on top of his cage whenever we let him out and he allows you to go right up to him and put you face quite close to him but assoon as we raise our hand he will back away and then fly off to the shelf in my front room. I am hoping its early days as hes only just turned 1 years old lol but thanks for asking. Hows yours?

      Tango Wollap Bourkes are good for beginners, they are so sweet and docile and dont't bite very hard or hardly at all. A hand fed and hand tame bird is best.
