      Oh I agree, it takes money, love, training, and on and on, the biggest thing is, you have to have time for them and alot of it, quality time out of the cage, oh and keep up with the cleaning, everyday, in my opinion!♥️♥️stay safe in these horrible covid-19 times.

    i think society/bengalese finches make great pets, they can get quite tame, they are very active and fun to watch. Also they don't need a giant amount of space to be happy, just a lot of climbing opportunities and a fresh bath every day (they loooove bathing). Also they chirp and sing but not very loud

    Your video brought out many points about each bird, which can help people decide which bird out of the three that could be best suited for them! It was also good that you stressed that we also need to consider that our birds require the proper cages etc. Birds are not toys that can just be stuck in the corner of a room if one tires of them! It’s best not to buy one on a whim, but give it thought! Thanks Donna.😉

    Hi Donna! I hope you and all your family are keeping well at this crazy time. It was lovely to hear a bit of the lovely canary song in today's video 🥰🎶🎵🎶
    My male cockatiel is mainly pretty quiet but he does have a few 10 minute sessions of loud singing or whistling a day, and if he's unhappy about something, he can do an ear piercing scream! He does not like to be separated from his favourite budgie lady friend for even a moment!
    You are so right that there is no one size fits all answer to what bird to choose, just research, research and more research! Then when you think you've chosen, I would say think a bit longer and make sure!
    It's so easy to impulse buy, especially the smaller birds, but they make such rewarding and entertaining companions if you out the 💓 into them, as you know!

    If you can handle hand feeding a weaning parrot, they will bond to you so easily. I got two cockatiels when they were about a month old and they were totally cuddly and curious and friendly even jumping on strangers. Now I have a Lovebird but I got him when he was a bit more than 3 months old and used to live with other parrots and is scared of hands and even treats. I cannot do much but t be patient and hope he becomes friendly. There have been some good progress but nothing more recently

    Totally agree . I have ALL rescues here . Free lol sure but vet care and big flight cage are expensive. But worth it . 4 cocktiels society finches and zebra finches in my avariy. Zebra are so territorial. Any thing I can do to stop the chasing and fighting . They upset my tiels since they are in an avariy together

    I have a short experience of owning a lovebird. I got Jojo when she was like 2 months and had her for about 5 months. I even got her DNA tested for gender. But I decided to rehome her because during the day I was away and in the evening she would go to sleep quite early, so we really didn’t spend so much time together. And getting her another bird was not an option for me. But I miss her and wonder how she is doing and how she would have been with me.

    I’ve never owned a bird. I always wanted a pet bird as a kid, probably a cockatiel - but we had two cats and my mum was weirdly afraid of birds.
    Now that I’m an adult, I still want a bird, but I’m married to someone who is very allergic to dust and pollen. I’ve leaned about cockatiel dust. So cockatiels are probably not the right one for that situation. So I’m leaning towards a male lovebird. Possibly two male lovebird. I’ve learned male lovebirds are friendlier than females, and they aren’t dusty. And no need to worry about egg laying with males.

    Love your videos. Every time I think I decide on which bird I want to get something else makes me change to the other one. I’ve been debating over Budgies or Cockatiels for over two years and I still can’t make up my mind! I wish I knew someone who owned them to go visit them in person. I don’t feel ready to have both but wish I could decide 😐 I made a list of my perfect bird and unfortunately half of it was Budgie and half was cockatiel LOL

      @bolt1437 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really just think about what kind of bird it is that you want.

    • @vivyanheimer5960
      @vivyanheimer5960 ปีที่แล้ว

      i think it also has to do with personality i think budgies tend to be a little less social than cockatiels, but really if they could be both for you maybe you should go off looks budgies come in a lot of colors and cockatiels less so which one do you like the look of better

    Hi 👋 DONNA I just love all your videos.I agreee with everything you said. A long while ago I did have a flock of 10 birds all sweethearts which I loved more than anyone could imagine.Something happened regarding a home I owned and had to leave and I was supposed to be separated from them for a few months. One by one they passed away with the people that I entrusted them with for all different reasons but none were sick except my Congo African Grey Sugar Girl, she was a rescue from a horrid situation and was heavily bonded to me and she died the first night she was away from me.She would try to put her food in my ear and court me with her wings in position and make little grunting sounds, in short , she was crazy about me and me her. Sugar died of a massive heart attack from not being with me . I do not think I have to tell you Donna how I felt afterwards.A female Timneh I had was smothered by one of the people taking care of my birds.He was upset that night a took Timneh Baby Doll to bed with him fell asleep and rolled over on her.One of my birds got out and was gone. The other birds died when they had a power outage. I had a dove , sweet cockatiels, a Quaker parrot, and a darling little love bird I called pockets because she would try to cuddle in my pocket all the time.I never speak about my horror of 13 yrs ago except with a therapist and I really one . I was diagnoised with PTSD because of it.I still go to her today believe it or not she loves parrots and I just got her a rescued parrot I was offered but declined because I si ply do not have the resources , space or time to give to two parrots as much as I wanted that new parrot.That would be selfish on my part.So this parrot is in a lovely home with my therapist and her family! Like you say resources are extremely important. I just have enough for my 1 bird , my Timneh Stormy Boy I also have veterinary exotic pet insurence. I just love your videos and they are right on the mark.I also love all the names you give to birds in your flock.They are unique and awesome and sweet. Thank you soo much for sharing and I hope you and your whole family human and pets are okay!

    As always, your birds look great. My question is: as the daylight hours are increasing with the spring season now, should my budgies be staying up later. During the fall & winter seasons where it gets dark as early as 5 pm, I would cover their cages at 5 pm and uncover them at 7 am. By June, it won't get dark until ~ 8:30, maybe 9 pm, so do I wait to cover their cages then?

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, it's best to put them to bed earlier especially if you have females as they get hormonal and want to breed and lay eggs. If you only have males they can stay up longer.

  • @carolhartley4448
    @carolhartley4448 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi Donna, you are so right people , if they haven't had a parrot before really need to have enough income , especially for the medium size birds, and it is a must to be hands on training with your bird, now Jake is a green cheek but he wants to train and when he was really young he waß very nippy, that faze has passed and now he is still only 1 years 7 months old, they always print that they are not verycgood talkers, not Jake , he speaks in sentences and talks in phrases pretty much all day long! So each bird is an individual personality, he can get quite loud when he is chirping, another myth about gcc's. He is not quiet at all, but I find it amusing! Lol He knows alot of things/tricks on cue, stil can't get him to wave and isn't that the simplest one? I need another method can you help me out? I find it odd that he catches on so fast to anything, except that, I must be doing it wrong ( teaching him that?) Well love you and again your voice is so calming, that must be great for your flock!👍👍🤣🤣♥️stay safe

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, it depends on the species and how it was raised. If the bird is scared and not tame then you should wait a day or two until it's used to it's new surroundings. If the bird is tame and we'll socialized then the bird can come out on the same day.

    My daughter has a budgie and just got a baby parrotlet for a friend and is so scared now about all the neg things she’s read about them being in the same cage she’s upset she didnt research better what do you suggest the family is very interactive with their bird I’ve watched lots of videos on both as pets and they have had no problems please help!!

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, the Parrotlet definitely needs its own cage. They can come out together under supervision to make sure they are not aggressive with each other.
      If they are in the same cage then can kill each other especially when an adult an hormones kick in so yes two cages are needed.
      Another thing to watch for is the Parrotlets are known to bite toes of birds that land on their cage and can bite off toes so you have to watch while the birds are out. Since the Parrotlet is a baby he may be nice and non aggressive at this time but once an adult he can be very hormonal. Some people have had success to put both together but you never know that one day one can harm each other so it's best to be safe and have two cages

      Hi, it's hard for me to choose for you as I love them both and I don't know your living situation. Birds are individuals, some may want to be handled more than others.
      Research both birds and make a list of pros and cons for each bird and go from there. Here is my species spotlight videos that can help you decide. Birds as Pets Species Spotlight: th-cam.com/play/PL6uTBIckTWD45cnK7Sm063Kt9VFQ2kV05.html

    Female budgie group of 4 four? How might 4 behave with each other ??

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Female budgies can be aggressive with each other so it just depends on the birds but I recommend a flock of males

      Anything is possible if you have patience, time and knowledge of taming and training.

    • @didostempest2966

      In my experience it’s not really worth it. Breeders are way cheaper. I keep seeing conures at petco and pet smart at 600-700. That’s around 200-300 more than what breeders sell for. And they’re tame & ready to bond.

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, the bigger the better and wider is more important than height. 25" wide is the minimum sized cage if the bird is out of the cage alot like this one amzn.to/39uiT5Y . 32" cage is better. This cage is the same size as my cages amzn.to/2Joi7wJ

      Every time you walk by your birds cage or you walk past it's playstand or wherever your bird is give him a treat. Spend time talking to your bird.

      My Bourke's can breed if they want to too but I won't force them to.
