Ed, the felt block that you took from the air cleaner housing is actually a filter. Under certain conditions, decellerating actually, the engine will actually draw air through the felt, if it were not there unfiltered air could enter the crankcase. Just wash it up and reinstall
Hi! Thank you for the great video's! That felt pad is to keep crankcase vapors from getting up into the breather and to clean the air being pulled into the crankcase for ventilation. B.D.
They're called Helmholtz Resonators. They basically resonate at a frequency that cancels out natural frequencies in the intake tube. It's basically just to quiet the intake and make it sound less harsh.
one thing you can try with your ford is get a heavy metal mallet and your spark plug tool and bang on the plugs with a fair amount of consistent force. It may take 5, 10, even 20 minutes of banging per plug but they almost always come undone eventually without stripping the threads. You wont feel it giving or loosening, they just suddenly pop loose.
Hmm, those bearings could have been a bit more user frendly, one side could have had an internal snap ring fitted. Like the rockerbox cover :-) A magnetic socket is good for removing sparkplugs as well, but your method is soo easy :-) Side inspection cover looks smashing in red :-) Smashing vid :-)
ED, Ford motor sells a product to soak plugs on the 4.7 L modular motors as they have the same problem as you 6 does, it seeps around the threads to loosen the grip on the aluminum so you can loosen the plugs without stripping them , I often remove them the same way as I tap a piece of metal , 1 turn out 1/4 turn back and also try giving it a tightening smidge to help clear the threads and break off any carbon on the end threads when you start . con't
the pad that was under the air filter is there there catch any oil that spatters up the breather. Hopefully to keep the air filter from getting saturated.
and Yes, it's important. If the air filter gets oil saturated, air flow will go WAY down. if it cannot be cleaned, you can replace it with any decent filter foam.
the d2 has more of a natural or mineral oil in it the d3 is sythetic and doesn't seep as well as its more resisitant to the acetone , you could do the hot soak trick of starting the engine let it warm up and then let it cool down to around 50* C ( 120*F ) and then apply the mix as the acetone flashing off will cool the plugs and allow the d2 to seep into the threads better , then let try to loosen the plugs when the motor is stone cold , do not do it while warm as the aluminum will strip out
or you can make your own by mixing automatic transmission fluid ( has to be GM dextron2 ) half and half with acetone , shake it well in a container ( i mix in a glass fruit jar then put it inot a plews oil pump ) and deposit it on the buggered piece and let it sit for about a half hour and apply it again , the acetone will allow it to seep into the threads , I use this on the aluminum heads that Gm uses on Corvettes and on some older British cars I worked on , no problems removing stuck plugs
your "auto-choke" so to speak bypasses air which lowers the manifold pressure, which increases fuel delivery. at least it does in MAP sensor systems. not sure how it works with MAF
weird none of the micras or marchs here have anto roll bars lol, have you tried doing the timing chain yet.........hydrolic tensioners are a disaster!!
I've always felt that Nissan made good cars. My only problem with cars this small, I'm just too tall to fit in them well (I'm 6'2 with long legs), my head rubs on the ceiling, and my knees hit the steering wheel. But for people of a more normal height (I guess I'm taller than the average guy) they work great. My dad has a Chevy Metro (Holden Barina in AU) and he's put over 100k miles on it and very little work into it. Gets great mileage and has been a good commuter car.
unless its a rusted wreck a mini costs a bucketload more than this Micra did. but to be honest I would give my left nut for a good condition Morris Mini or similar make.
I know, makes servicing it a PITA. In some ways I'm glad my truck has a MAP (manifold absolute pressure) rather than a MAF sensor, which doesn't have those delicate parts that have to be cleaned.
did you have throttle body problems cutting out stalling on roundabouts. I bought a brand new one on ebay for 150 euro main dealer 500 euro or more. Second hand one in my opinion is a no go i got stung in buying a second hand one it went again after a month. Pop a new one in shes like a brand new car and the speed of my i litre micra was unbelievable
Hi there, Would like to know where can I find my MAF on a 1996 Nissan Micra? I have a K11 model type Chassis#. The mechanic suggested that I need to change my MAF due to his diagnostic test performed. Looking fwd to hearing from you soon.
Hi there. I've cleaned the throttle body plate, . The problem Is still there. BUT when I'm satuionry Park up Put the in gear the revs drop down take it out of gear the revs go up. Any suggestions? I think that's my problem
Nawaz Meegan have you cleaned the throttle body, if the revs surge when you de-clutch it could be that the throttle plate is slowly returning to the closed position. my RAV4 did it for a bit until I cleaned the carbon and crap out of the TB.
Nawaz Meegan the throttle plate is the butterfly valve in the bottom of the throttle body that the accelarator cable attaches to. if its slow to return it could explain the surge in RPM

Ed, The coolant cotrolled vave on the throttle body is just to increase the idle a bit when the engine is cold.

One thing that looks good with the rocker covers is using a blade to peel off the paint on the lettering, leaving the shiny alloy below :-)

paint pen :D, their available in any color from stationary stores and some supermarkets
I like that they mounted the filter horizontally rather than upside down (hated that on our Focus) but I don't like where they mounted it.
I’m guessing the little felt block is to stop oil getting back to the MAF and contaminating it.

Thanks for the info!, I think I have a bottle with some DIII and Acetone mix somwhere. does it matter if its not DII?
that extra bit on the intake is just to quieten down intake noise.

that sealed tube is a intake noise reducer, dont ask me how it works though.. but it does!
The red paint really made the motor look good

in the first part of the vid there is a grey tool on the table with blue grips whats the name of it and whats it for ? it looks like garden clippers

That's an excellent looking paint job.
CG13DE I think, its definitely 1.3L
What's the noise I hear in the background when you're under the car?
Im enjoying these vids on the nissan micra :) keep em coming ed lol :) i like the red rocker cover :) i want to do that to my pulsar :)
the resonance chamber takes the "bark" out of the induction noise
shim-over-bucket type valve train clearances? like a 4AGE Toyota? sometimes those things last the life of the bottom end!

you will get rust on whatever is not chromed :(. best treatment is a can of WD40 and a load of rags, just spray and wipe each one.
That pulley can easily be remade!, A decent punch will secure the new bearing quite well

good work. how many miles is your micra?
Would appreciate if when you do the brakes in a future video you could leave the camera rolling on a tripod so we can see the entire process.
best puzzle games ever :D

That original filter looks to be a Burson's brand one
Delete and mounted remotely :D You sir have been playing Portal :P
Is that a CG10DE engine or is it larger?
that nice looking rocker cover gives it another 10 or so HP ;)
Can't you clean a throttle body with MAF cleaner?
Hi mate!
I saw that you removed the small filter (the oily one) on the air filter case.
Mine is also pretty oily, is there any problem if I remove it?
I would not remove it completely, just wash it in carburettor cleaner, I cleaned mine and put it back in

G'day mate, the MAF is part of the throttle body on the intake manifold, it all comes off together.
how you get that lettering so nice?
Maybe because he was given a micra and not a mini?
Hi there.
I've cleaned the throttle body plate, .
The problem Is still there.
BUT
when I'm satuionry Park up
Put the in gear the revs drop down take it out of gear the revs go up.
Any suggestions?
I think that's my problem
Probably very late answer, but I'd check the clutch, if it opens properly or the clutchbearing needs to be replaced.
im sure they are garden clippers.. secateurs? :-)
my sparkplug socket has a rubber grommet in it to grab the end of the spark plug.
Hi
The problems I'm getting on my nissan micra k11 s reg. Is when I come to a junction the car revs up then goes back down.
Any suggestions?

Where is the throttle plate located?
I've spayed card cleaner that's all
What is the throttle plate?

Thank you so much
21:38 these are shifting rods...
Put a turbo on it !
a z442 is what i use on my s13 silvia
Use electric contact cleaner on ya MAF won't hurt it
so my turbocharger must add at least 100 :P~
anti roll bars even^^
