Just went through buying a hybrid. Set on Camry, Accord or Sonata. Went to about a dozen dealerships in my area, south of Cleveland and was shocked by the number of shell games they were playing. $2K to $3K markups, $3K crystal coating. Finally found a Toyota dealer some 30 miles away who just wanted MSRP and normal fees. Ordered my Camry hybrid from them and am now in first few weeks of a 3 to 6 month wait. It is fall now and I do not need the car till this Spring when my granddaughter will be ready to take my 10 year old Subaru. So everything you said in this video is dead on accurate. Thanks again for the detailed video on those 3 cars…

My too. My wife is on a 6-9 months waiting list on a Lexus NX hybrid. MSRP plus $700 of add on which I am ok with and i can wait 6-9 months when my son will inherit her 08 Lexus SUV which just hit 150K miles.

What we are seeing in California.
    1. More cars are coming and those pre-sold are being cancelled.
    2. Markups up to 15,000 are coming down to 2-3k, but they are adding now accessories that they can’t remove, even coming from the factory. I asked two that I don’t want accessories, but they said is mandatory lol.
    3. However, lots of inventory coming. Before you could not see a Telluride or palisade anywhere, now we are seeing 10-15 on the lot.
    4. Times are getting better, I’m in the market and for once feels like a buyer’s market. So, be patient, things will improve. Even when interest rates are high, I am seeing better rates. Good luck everyone!

I wish I had better educated myself when I bought my 2008 Hyundai! Although I never even bought one extra product in the dreaded finance office! But this time around in 2022 I was much better educated on car buying with my RAV4 Hybrid thanks to you and YAA. I think there’s so much more info out now than 2008!
I did go to 4 dealerships. The ones that wouldn’t take off those ridiculous fees, like Doc fee I walked away from. Even got a small $750 discount. Lol.

In 21 we needed to replace our 18 year old Camry with an AWD or a 4WD, so we looked at a Toyota Venza and a Rav AWD Limited, as well as an Outback.
We loved the Venza but we didn’t like the Rav at all. Both of them had horrible rear views.
    We’ve driven Toyota’s for 40+ years.
My current car is a 11 Rav 4WD Limited with the 3.5 V6.
We called our insurance company to see how much our premiums would increase.
The Venza was $1K more per year and the Rav was $700 more per year.
We then asked about the Outback and it was only $300 more per year.
The Venza only came with Depressing Grey or Death Black interior colors, so we refused to buy it, (even though it was the most expensive on insurance costs).
The quality of the new Rav wasn’t nearly as refined as our 11 Rav, so we opted to buy the Outback.
We couldn’t find a new Outback but we found a 19 instead.
It was a lease return with only 5,600 miles and the dealership had it on the lot for awhile and sold it for $5K less than KBB.
They tried to sell us an additional 5 year 100K warranty.
We have never owned a Subaru but both of my wife’s brothers and sisters in law drive nothing but Outback’s.
We called one brother to ask if we should buy the extended warranty. He asked how many miles were on it and after he found out he told us NO.
The dealership tried to up-sale us other items like mud flaps, window vent shades, etc, but again we said No.
We had to drive to Tacoma, WA (3 hour drive). Tacoma’s sales tax is 9.8%, but on our side of WA our tax is 8.3%, so we had to pay taxes for our area.
I got online after buying the Outback and ordered aftermarket mud flaps, window vents, bug shield, etc and saved over $200 below the cost of buying the same things through Subaru.
We wanted tan interior so the Outback we bought has tan interior. The exterior is Cinnamon Brown Pearl.
I found another 19 Outback with Crimson red metallic, also with tan interior, ( it too was a 3 hour drive from our house but it was in Kennewick, WA and it had 16K miles but it was $500 less money.
I wanted to buy the Red one but the car is for my wife to use as her commuter car and she liked the brown one better.
We’ve had it for a year now and it has 18K miles.
I have to admit that the Outback is far superior over my Rav in all driving conditions.
We get between 5-6 feet of snow every winter and the Subaru has awesome traction.
We live 5 miles in the country up a mountain on a private road.
We’ve never had any problems with our Subie.
I’m hoping that when my Rav wears out then Subaru will be producing hybrids by then so I’ll be able to buy a Forester Touring hybrid.

One Question: regarding finance in Canada, realistically can we find a lender (bank or union) with lower APR for a new car? Lets say right now I am waiting for a Toyota car, and their APR is about 6-7% at the time, how low you can find a loan with a relatively good credit score?
