I took my superclone submariner to a local watchmaker to get serviced (always a good idea because the movements tend to be under-oiled) and he was shocked at how close these new releases are to genuine.

I have to agree. The concept of value in business is everything. With Rolex, you’re getting about a $2,000 (or less) value for over $10,000. The $600 fake looks and wears identical to the authentic. So you have to ask, where’s the value proposition from Rolex? They’re great, always have been, but things are getting crazy.
Omega has enough money to sponsor the Olympic games, selling watches with finishing in the same level as Rolex, you might prefer the Rolex watches but quality wise they are close, and equal or better movements and costing around 4 to 5 thousand dollars, at least the ones that actually carry the company like the Seamasters, they are getting more expensive but that's because people apparently prefer to pay more in the watch world, that means that Omega have a large margin of profit on 4k dollar watches , very large, how much profit do you think Rolex has? Specially with pretty much the only innovation being new colors.
@@pedrothevenard quality wise they’re definitely close. Spec for spec very competitive. The devils is in the details though. The micro adjust bracelet on Sub is much better than that on a Seamaster. Also bracelet design in general, taper and wearability. I prefer my Rolexes but Omega makes amazing watches and are stepping up their game.

So you'd always rather buy something stolen compared to original. Basically the faker steals design that costs millions in R&D as well as millions/billions in marketing costs. You can buy a watch for 600 USD without the crown and design, but you really wouldn't do that given your comment. There's plenty of great 600 USD watches out there that aren't fakes. Buy those - they're great as well! Although a Rolex is something special, regardless of how you can debate its price.

I bought a fake accidentally and wore it for 5 years when I was in the navy , did dives with it , combat deployments everything . Never had an issue always kept time and never got water logged or loosened the clasp . Only found out later because my brother told me hahahahahha fakes work great

In the 1970s and 1980s, it was possible to buy some Rolex models through the NEX (the Navy Exchange) "retail stores," or through their mail-order catalog. watchmaker here. Ceramic bezel didnt reflect light quite right. Pay close attention to the tightness of the markings on the clasp. Never quite right. What is really gonna change the game is when they start using free sprung balances.
Unlikely though, so much more expensive and time consuming !

Clomage watches basically look almost identical to the watch they're imitating. There's enough difference for plausible deniability, including the obviously different logo, but from 20 feet away, you generally won't be able to tell at a glance that it is a clone.

The fake one will die probably in a year or two. A real Rolex not only holds its value but will function like a new one in 50 years granted that you service it after a while. Living in Switzerland myself I can easily tell you that the labor cost for the real one is extremely high whereas the fake one must be assembled by forced labor at 1$ a day kind of salary. So as though most definitely the real one is overpriced but then that is justified by the image of the brand and the great marketing that they do. And I can tell you as a Rolex owner that there is nothing more fulfilling in the materialistic world than being able to afford one and to buy one for a special milestone in your life.

Actually what this did was make 99% of people realise a Rolex is entirely marketing these days and nothing else. In a lot of ways a Tudor is the much better deal now.
You are correct in that Tudor really is the better deal. I got a Black Bay heritage for my 30th birthday, and it's a fantastic watch, and it remains at a feasible price point even 3 years later. My grail watch is a Rolex GMT Master II with a Coke bezel. But they're all going for well over $12k used, and there's no indication Rolex will ever bring it back. Tudor on the other hand I feel is more likely to make their own, as they already have a Pepsi GMT, and the BB Pro. Why not make additional colors? And it would be half the price of any current Rolex GMT

It is pretty good, but it was also pretty obvious that the green one was fake from the build quality. There is a slight defect in the magnification lens and some other areas around the watch.

The name is what sells. Apple could sell a shitty phone, but the status symbol remains. There's plenty of phones better than the average iPhones, but they still sell for less because they don't have that high roller status.
I bought the VSF Subby Starbucks and it is as you say, astonishingly good. So good in fact that I would doubt the real one is any better at all. I tried to buy the real thing but being laughed out of ADs was no fun so I gave up. Would I now buy a real Rolly if I could? No. But I will be buying more super clones.

The real one has a dirty bezel. I don’t care about price, I care about how it looks and functions, so I don’t see a problem with getting a functional object for a much lower price.
The fake also has a "dirty bezel" since what makes the real one "dirty" is the platinum filled numerals on the bezel which looks like an off brown. The fake has this exact same off brown on the numerals which also makes it look "dirty".
If you truly didn't care about price, you would just buy the gen for $26k on the gray market (since money is meaningless to you apparently).

How does buying from an authorized dealer help? They wouldn't know the difference too. Even with box and papers, it would fool anyone really.
I have two SCG Omegas one of which is a Deep Blue. I have compared it to a genuine deep blue and with the naked eye its impossible to tell the difference especially if its on the wrist. Both watches cost me a total of six hundred quid.

If you're ever in a group of rich people you'll notice that 8/10 of them are wearing Rolex (even though they could easily afford much more expensive brands like AP, PP, etc... They just don't know any better). They probably are all boring. They just care about portraying their status is all. It does kill the brand for those that are into watches. I don't know, it just tarnishes the brand name for me. I could not proudly wear a Rolex. Too much baggage, drama, and knowing that a bunch of watch noobs wear them just kills it for me. Lange is my end goal. Currently very happy with a JLC master control chronograph. It's gorgeous.

You walk into a luxury jewelry store. You buy a used entry level $9000 Rolex. You will wear it with absolute pride everywhere you go looking at it as you drive with one hand on the wheel. You feel accomplished and successful. Your career has really taken off. Then… You later find out 6 months later it’s a 1.1 replica and it’s worth $80.
Now you no longer value the watch despite it being the same as the real one. The amount you spend on something is a determining factor on how much that item means to you. It’s quite a tricky mind game.
Now… Imagine you buy a real Rolex from a garage sale. A lady’s husband died and doesn’t know the value of it and just wants to get money for it. You offer her $400 and get the same $9000 Rolex. You still don’t wear it with pride despite it actually being real because you didn’t spend a lot of money on it. See how that works?
Moral of the story, designer brands are often only expensive to keep them exclusive and give the super wealthy something to spend their money on. You’ll notice something about billionaires, they don’t wear designer anything because it’s all cheap to them. They drive nice cars yes but could care less about Gucci or YSL.
When you’re super wealthy designer brands aren’t even on your radar. Everything you wear is custom made and tailored to your liking. Most billionaires and ultra millionaires literally wear blue/black jeans, tucked white/black shirt, black belt and a light jacket or blazer with casual low top leather sneakers. They definitely don’t wear any jewelry.
Take it from someone who’s been around and seen the ultra wealthy, there’s a huge difference between trying to look rich, being rich, and being ultra wealthy.

See what I took away is, Rolex is robbing everyone with their absurd prices because you can clearly make the watch for a lot cheaper. You’re only paying for the Rolex name at this point.

The problem with fakes is that they hardly last over a year with everyday use in my experience... It's like the sellers realized nobody will go back, complain or ask to get serviced so they only cared about the looks.

I can get these $600 fake watches. I have a few. Problem besides it not being genuine is the movement is not truly 1:1 clone. They can't do it. If they could they would but they cannot. These tiny subtle qualities of fit and finish require a loo or opening the case back. To the naked eye you wouldn't know. To the trained when setting the watch you would know. Not all watches can be cloned. I have some really really expensive watches and my next rolex is likely going to be a Skydweller. Which is rolex most complicated movement, something no watch clone factory can replicate. Same thing follows for other watches beyond Rolex. Omega, Patek, etc. they are all heavily copied but not completely cloned. Just replicated and decorated.

Putting the movement to your ear has a more soothing movement sound than the replicas or aftermarket swiss parts.
There’ll be a time, in which you can’t differ the fake from the original one, but to prevent that, watchmakers and buyers should only focus on the registered numbers. Even then fake-watch-makers could get inside them registered numbers and put it on their watches. LoL kinda scary isn’t it

It's not even about impressing others with a fake Rolex. It's about getting the same experience at a far more reasonable price point.
If the clone is of that good a quality then I want one for $600 but I don't want it to have the word Rolex on it anywhere.
To each his own but if a watch company is so arrogant as to make you pass a personality test to see if you are worthy then I wouldn't be caught dead with one on. It would only show that I am so vain that I would put up with being judged and made to beg just to have the "honor" of wearing a watch brand. How low does your self asteem have to be?
Now I realize that I am painting with a wide brush and people do have different reasons for their decisions but just knowing that some people value a specific brand of anything above their self respect really does bother me.

These experts that create the fakes should start a watch company of their own if they're that damn good. I would probably buy their brand marked as their brand not a Rolex. It's impressive.

The only thing worse than a fake Rolex is a real one.
Someone who makes a living off selling watches, shoes ect. will always talk down on fakes. But that’s just because they can’t make money when the same thing is being sold for a fraction of the price.
The bezel clearly looks fake. But everything else looks so similar, its scary.
If you can get the same quality on a replica for a tenth of the price, then Rolex are charging too much. I pick the replica.
