I have two 450X bikes, an '08 that l made into a SuperMoto and a '21 that l have dual sported. I have pretty much all the same modifications on both bikes with the exception of the engine upgrades. On my '08 SuperMoto I had a high compression piston as well as the Hot Cams Stage 2 camshaft from a 450R. You nailed it when you said what a powerhouse those mods did to performance. My carburated first generation 450X will blow away my fuel injected 450X. You guys did a great job and put out some useful information. Thanks.
Sold my 450x and got a 250x. What a great choice for me. I went from a built out XR650r and the 450 was harder to ride as it had more power with 100 lbs less weight. I wasn’t expecting to hate my dream bike but now I’m good to go
You're making me nervous about switching from a 2001 XR400R over to a 2005 CRF450X. I'm 5'8" 170 pounds (barely) and I was hoping the 450X would be a better fit, for the 400 is a slow heavy pig. Probably the most reliable machine Ive ever owned, but a total pig. I ride the trails in New England, so I am constantly banging through the gearbox in both hot and cold weather, both day and night. I sat on a 250X but it felt like I would destroy it in only a few rides. The other choice is a Husqvarna TE300 Pro. Hope I make the right choice. 🏁
Cool. I recently did my 2005 450r. Some similar mods. I went with a black oversized Clark tank, oversized radiators, tusk fan kit, larger water pump impeller kit, rocket exhaust, applied triples, works connection rad guards and frame guards (replacing this with plastic acerbis to let frame flex), pro taper bars, Scott’s, similar wheels and brakes and rear sprocket but it’s all red and black with black spokes and red nipples, twin air filter and cage, rekluse clutch, boyesen cover, LED lights, flag style acerbis hand guards (trying to keep it light), ASV levers, a bunch of works connection red ano bling kit stuff, new grippy seat, graphics, Yost design template to cut side plates to 2019 style, 2019 crf450r front fender, new red ano pegs, probably a few things I am forgetting. I’d say it now looks about as good as the newer works bikes, if not better because it was done the way I like it.

I have a 2022 crf450rx, and the front brakes bite so hard I put some air in it. Of all the things to upgrade, im surprised the front brakes were one of them. Honda is notorious for the best biting brakes.
The giant 300+mm dual rotors on my Fireblade are the same way! The stop the bike 2x faster than it can accelerate. In a panic grab, I imagine it could yeet you to the moon. That 450rx is dream bike material

My header on my 450x gets red hot 30 seconds into idling. Could low coolant levels contribute to the header heating uo fast ?
